What an interesting spot to stop and read about the road - and look back up the valleys we had just walked out of. Cheers, love me a cache with a bit of history to it.

Found with StreetWalkerNZ and BaldEd (who had found this on a previous occasion) on an enjoyable days outing to Lake Taylor. What an out of the way memorial! Didn't even see on the trip to the lake, so well spotted. SW hopped out to look for the cache and soon had it in hand. TFTC.

I saw the list of new B&B caches come out a few days ago. Then Mrs R mentioned she was keen to head out somewhere for a walk this weekend. "How about a picnic at Lake Taylor, and a walk around the lake" may have been mentioned. I *did* admit my ulterior motive at the time, but still received a positive response.

This was our third stop, third find, and one of the 3 finds and one DNF we got in addition to the FTFs.

With no hint I was worried this would take a bit of finding. I needn't have worried, the spot was obvious when seen and it turned out to be a quick find. All good with this cache.

Looked for a while before stepping back and seeing the obvious. Here I am by the fire in Hanmer Kākāpõ Lodge, just struggled thru reading the road construction sign that I took a picture of, only to see it displayed clearly in the cache notes, doh! Thanks for putting the cache here.

Was camping at Harwarden for the weekend and after noting that Lake Taylor was sorta just up the road I decided to picnic at the Lake and grab those caches nearest to the road as I passed. This was a very interesting memorial - full of information about the road construction. Amazing to learn that this route was so heavily travelled back in 1865 - imagine 400 persons a month passing by this spot on their way to/from the West Coast. Thanks for the cache TW.

Day 10 of an upper South Island holiday from Rotorua with sveppi. Picked up on the way back from completing the overnight Jollie Brook circuit. We didn't bother trying to find other caches along this road after this becaus it was getting a bit late and it started to rain more heavily. After 2 days in the wind and getting wet feet the 2nd day, we were just glad to stay warm and dry in the car!

Wasn't expecting to get a FTF on this trip. When I looked at the logs on the GPS I saw nothing and was hoping for a blank log and yes it was. Was going to stay at lake Taylor but decided not to when we saw at least 100 people camping there already and not much room for another tent.
