We visited this coastline briefly in August this year, but the weather wasn't ideal for exploring. As we were passing through on our way to Cape Bridgewater today, we stopped by to revisit a couple of special places along the coast, this being one of them. Today we had great weather. After a bit of an explore and collecting some information we enjoyed lunch at the nearby cafe that had reopened with the recent easing of COVID restrictions.
Thanks so much for the Earth cache information.

The plan was to spend a few days in Ballarat, Halls Gap and then Portland. We had no intention of chasing every cache we drove past. Only the ones that piqued our interest made the list.
One of many areas we visited whilst in Portland. So much to see and do.
Thanks Na'wal.

What a stunning day to enjoy a walk around the lighthouse! Thanks for bringing us here and drawing attention to the area.
What beautiful views here today, and it wasn't windy! Was windy on our wedding day, 6 months ago when we had photos here. Such a wonderful scenic area and walk along the cliff today. Answers sent to CO. TFTC

Staying in Port Fairy for the weekend but it was too wet to sit in the caravan all day so took a drive to Portland. With a break in the weather we headed to the Cape Nelson lighthouse for a look around.
A great area to walk around today. Views from this lookout were amazing! Then took a short walk along the GSWW to check out the monuments. Thx Na'wal for your EC, answers sent.

But had sometime for caching before hitting the road.

TFTC. We were out with muff1 for an afternoon of caching. We came down to Cape Nelson to have a look at the lighthouse. We managed to find the traditional there and then turned our mind to the nearby Earthcache. We have forwarded answers to the CO.
We came out to do cache maintenance and realised that we hadn't logged the earth cache and collected the information again only to find that the CO had already given us permission to log along with the Rocks of Lawrence last year so we are now logging on December 29th 2021.
We are in Portland visiting Dad for Xmas and had time to head out here again before the family festivities.
We have been here as we a traditional cache here, the last three have been for this earth cache, two of which we lost the information before we got around to sending our answers so we came back today determined to sort it out, we have a new system in place now and also because we love visiting here.
We enjoyed collecting the information on an extremely windy day which to us only makes the ocean look better.
Many thanks Na'wal for another fantastic earth cache in a favourite part of the world, a favourite point from us.

Not even the whale watchers ventured out here today although there was a group of bush walkers lying exhausted against the cafe and out of the wind. They didn't look too keen on moving on again. The sea was angry that day my friend - answers have ben sent in by Robmc.
The Morris and I spent today finishing off an Adventure Lab, and looking for some new placements.
A great section of coastline around Cape Nelson.
It is always great to visit the lighthouse on Cape Nelson.
There was a howling wind today, but quite safe to stand near the fence and read about rocks hereabouts.
Our answers are on their way.
Thanks, Robmc.

We were up early and set off to explore Cape Nelson and Cape Bridgewater. It was just after 8am and was a beautiful crisp sunny morning here. Just spectacular. Thanks for the earth cache.
Stopped by here this morning to find the traditional near here as well as the multi-cache nearby. What?? There's an earth cache here? Let's DO IT!!
Mrs. iowaPete served as scribe for this one and took notes as we discussed each of the requirements for the cache. Once we came to a consensus, we took a few photos, called it good and headed off to find the multi-cache nearby.
Answers have already been sent to the CO. Photo attached of our visit. Enjoyed it all....

It was cool to visit this Lighthouse along the great South West walk, a nice pitstop. I grabbed a coffee and poked around for the two geocaches. I had a great chance to observe all the cliff formations on three days walk.
Found this afternoon on visiting cape Nelson’s and doing the tour of the lighthouse. Really enjoyed our visit and listening to the guides history of the site. Very windy for us today but still able to observe the cliff. Answers sent to cache owner. tfTc.
Really great views from the top of the lighthouse. Wave action and scenes are worth the trip. Guide at the lighthouse well versed in volcanic area as well.
Fourth of six finds with Aussiewolves. We have messaged the CO with the answers to the questions. Really enjoyed the drive out to the cape. Great to walk along the cliff edge and collect the information for this earthcache. TFTC

Great spot for an earthcache, pitty the coffee shop is shut. windy as usual for this location, with a top of 19 for the day, welcome to summer in Portland. thanks again for your earth caches.

Amazing views from this GZ of this one but very windy, which explains why there are so many wind towers in the local area. Answers have been sent via the message centre.

Another good day exploring Portland with the grogs. It was specifically good to return to this location of historical and geological significance. We had a ball and Whyt Knight grabbed the traditional cache while we were there. tftc - logged with permission.
A wonderful day at the Nelson peninsula! We visited the Cape and the lighthouse and answered all the questions. Amazing location!

I originally marked this cache as ‘found’ FLTF – full log to follow. Here I am well over a month on and I haven’t’ added a full log yet! So her I am typing up a generic copy and paste log, I do apologise that it isn’t a unique log for your cache. Thank you for suppling me/us with a cache to do along the way. I got a few caches orders and finds muddled so I am sorry if I created confusion, I think I have corrected that error now.
Found this cache heading to in or around Port Fairy.

We’ve packed up and headed south to escape the heat for a week. Aunty Marg graciously offered us her house in Portland.
The lighthouse was our first port of call after arriving last night. I’d ridden out to it this morning and thought I’d better bring the family up to see it as well. I gathered the information for this cache while Em was scaling the lighthouse steps. I had a laugh though as I didn’t come prepared for caching but when I opened the app I was standing at GZ for this cache, so of course I was going to have a go.

Me tour of the spectacular coast line continued here at the cape
So that red and white building over there must be Nelson's Column ?? [:o)]
Nearby I stood atop the neatly fenced cliff
And took in the more detailed views of the place needed to answer the Earthcache questions
OK !! 'Nuff standing around,
there's another cache to be found,
a couple of k's north of here
TFTEC and views to Antarctica [^]

On a caching day with hevwalker, 3LG and Cabbos and visited this amazing coastal view. Checked out the view for quite a while. Waited to see if the boat coming in was going to collect the pots we could see before the seals frollicing nearby did first. Looks like the seals were having fun. Answers sent
Great day of caching to and around the Portland area with hevwalker.. scramping and 3LG .. Loved the area here it was a beautiful day .. no wind .. flat sea and so peaceful doing the caches and enjoying the view.. A group effort finding the answers to the earth cache and scramping sent them to the CO on behalf of all of us.. Could have spent more time here but still a long way from home and was thinking about our fish and chip tea at Cape Bridgewater
Found on a girls day out caching with hevwalker, scramping and cabbos.

Suscoe was travelling westward today and we took a short stop in the Portland area to take in some views and enjoy the warm sunshine too.
We stopped here and saw a few tourists getting a little too close to the cliff edge, happy to get this done and out of here in case they overstepped the edge.
Have sent the CO our answers, hope we took in what we needed to with the eyes.
Thanks to Na'wal for this Earth Cache, spectacular here today with a steady wave rolling in along the coast.

In taking a virtual tour of this beautiful area, this neat place caught our attention. ThanX for the fantastic description, just hope to make it here someday.
Visited here while exploring the area on holidays. It was a beautiful sunny day so the views from up here were pretty good. At GZ we answered the questions and found the earthy aspects very interesting. Answers to the questions have been forwarded to the CO.
As we were walking up to GZ from the café we saw a nice sized Tiger Snake cross our path in front of us. He stopped and looked at us… we definitely stopped. After eyeing each other off for a little the snake turned around and retreated back into the bushes. That little experience certainly made this cache memorable for us.

As we are driving down the coast toward Waarnambool, we stopped at several earth caches. Each brought us to a unique spot on the coast with great views, and we learned a bit about the area. Enjoyed the views and the light house. This is the only light house I have seen that has a wall to protect the keepers from the wind while on their walks between the cottages and the lighthouse. TFTC
VikingNav and I had a great time driving around the coast and finding the answers to earthcache questions and learning so much in the process. What a beautiful coast! Thanks for putting this great earthcache together, I really appreciate your work in making my trip even more fun and educational! VikingNav has sent our answers for both of us.

Day 4 saw us in the rageing heat so not much geocaching happened. We managed a few finds before 10:30am where we declared it too hot and retired to the beach for a cool swim.
By the time we got here it was really heating up. We gathered the required info before retreating to the shade of the lighthouse to forward our answers to the CO.

I have been to Cape Nelson Lighthouse a few times over the years. The last time was looking for a Rufous Bristlebird. Headed up today to look for it again. While looking for the bird, I checked my geocaching app and realised there was an earthcache here, however it wouldnt upload what information was required. So I walked around and gathered as much information that I thought would be needed and took lots of photos. There were rain showers on an off and beautiful rainbows! Just before I left, I was lucky and saw a Rufous Bristlebird on the edge of the carpark! Once I had a better signal I checked what I needed to log the Earth Cache. Sent the information to the CO and have been given the green light. Thanks Na'wal for this cache, a fav from me.
Visited during a cool winters day, complete with passing showers.
It was interesting leadining about the volcanics in this area.

Nice view from here, the sea was sure angry below the cape.
It's always interesting to see lighthouses too, so neatly constructed and well painted (from a distance, at least)
Answers easily found from signs - except for one which I needed to read the cache description thoroughly, need to get better at that

Thanks Na'wal for bringing us, once again, to a picturesque part of our amazing shoreline. A beautiful view, made more spectacular by the presence of the lighthouse.

Found along with The Empire amidst some mild drizzle this afternoon. We took some time to take in the awesome views whilst here. This place has been on my "to visit" list for a long long time. So glad we came, got the nearby trad as well, and thoroughly loved the geology and history surrounding Cape Nelson. Logging with permission from the CO, thanks Na'wal for the EC. Adding a fave.

Dropped by on this beautiful sunny Sunday morning to visit this place I know fondly and have visited often since moving to Portland 12 years ago. The nearby cafe has friendly service and great coffee.
After gathered the required information, admiring the view and a taking few happy snaps, I then set off to Nippers at Cape Bridgewater with the 2 junior members of haynicmay and Geogrrl, and send a message to the CO.
Logged with the Owner's permission.
