After a bit of a wander along the trails of Mt Tamahunga I decided it was time for a drive up the coast. Certainly some variation in road quality along the coast out this way. I stopped at the village shops for some lunch and supplies. I checked on this previous DNF and noted it was still MIA. Quick check of the store and I purchase a new sistema as replacement. Nice to visit GZ on a weekday outside the sumner madness. Hid the new container in a spot matching the hint, nicely wedged in. Not sure how long this will last in this high muggle spot, but good to see someone else has already found it. Cheers for the smiley!
Darn, looked well despite the people using the flying fox today without success. That the other cache before finding the final in the series was not accessible due to high tides means that GAR wasn't keen to try for the final with only one number . A stop for an icecream and then homeward bound we went.
Had a look on Christmas Day--few people about--but I didn't detect the cache. Looks like this one is missing. CO may wish to check.
3.00pm. Well the fox says this was lying on the ground outside the platform area. Signed and put up where we think it should have been.
Thank You. David.
Thank You. David.
The fox says, don't bother trying to find this without your kids as cover during a long weekend with good weather! Parked up but didn't leave the car. A lone guy lying under a platform with kids playing above, phone in hand, is a recipe for trouble! Thought I'd be able to crack the final with two numbers and some patience, so decided to come back to this another day.
Out and about with my friend Lis's crew to find some caches. A couple of kids playing on this one so Lis "dropped" something and was quickly on to the cache. TFTC.
Yip I was as cunning as a fox here. Lucky my maiden name is FOX I used to do a lot of flying through the air in my earlier days as a gymnast but not any more. Loved flying foxes as a kid but it's a pity there are not many around any more. Yes dropped a TB with the intent of ducking under unnoticed by the two kids playing on the flying fox. Easily found and we were off. TFTC
Too many youngsters around to have a hunt first time here so we came back the following day. Only 1 family on the fox so we explained what we were doing and I think we may have some new converts. Was just about to sign the log when up rocks Shirley Wirley with her grandkids. Congratulations on your very first find Shirley.
Too many small sized muggles around yesterday so we went back today. The Mum there with her kids was very interested in what we were doing (thought we'd better explain) so probably some new recruits there and lovely to meet ShirleyWirly doing her first cache Too chicken to have go on the fox TFTC
Wow that was an early start, 2am left home, first cache at 4.50am.
Little did we know it but we could have had a sleep in as in the company of HKCB we were meant to be going Kite surfing today, but the place at Omaha double booked us then we had other plans for the rest of the weekend which meant a refund, a bugger but never mnd we did manage some great caches as I work my way torads my goal of collecting caches for the Challenge elective of the DGSc Challenge (stupid evil challenge, I now understand why no-one has ever done this elective previously).
But anyhow, after a long drive and not enough caffine we were ready for a couple of caches.
This was a quick stop on the way to our first objective of the weekend. Great travelling these back roads when they are clear of traffic and any traffic you do see from a long way off.
Our collective thanks must go out to all the cache owners who made this trip possible as we also managed to get quite a number of water based kayak caches along the way, but left enough for next time. We covered from the Managwai Heads to Mahurangi/Waiwera area in the south on the saturday, followed by a trip across Auckland on the sunday
Thanks for the series

Up this way with Cats&Dragons for the weekend with the main goal of tackling some of the T5 Kayak caches around the Auckland area and a little further North. We also had the side mission to give kiteboarding a go, but unfortunately that fell through last minute, but that only meant we got more caching in. The general plan was to cache around along the East coast from Mangawhai to Mahurangi on Saturday, and a big focus on the Auckland Kayak caches in the Auckland area.
A very early morning start, even by our normal standards (2am), meant we were had a bit of time to grab a few caches before we were meant to meet up for the boarding. But even with a few set backs including a few DNF's we still had a very enjoyable day. Thanks to all the CO's for the placements.
Have only just worked out what the cache name relates too! No other foxes around but there was a dog that wasn't to happy we were there this early in the morning. Quick find once at GZ.

we worried that we would have to fight off the foxes or the hordes of children but we were uninterrupted and quickly on our way again.
Nice easy one to find. Very cool park! Had a go on the flying fox nice summer day for it. Thanks!
What an amazing park. It reminded us of our first visit to New Zealand 35 years ago with our 2 young children who loved all the parks we visited and especially the flying foxes which they hadn't seen before. Mr CD had to have a go on the flying fox after we found the cache. TFTC
What a yucky day. We got to the GZ early before the usual crowds appeared. Cache quickly found and blank log duly signed. On to the final one.....FTF#6. TFTC.
Woke up to find a new geocache nearby. Rallied the kids together despite the risk of rain. Kids were playing at the park yesterday and were on the flying Fox too. Opportunity to find was missed yesterday. Kids raced over and found the cache within seconds. Had another run of the flying fox before we got hit by a downpour. TFTC
