On our thirteenth day in New Zealand we drive from Picton Tasman. This beautiful cache was on our way.TFTCHennesAt the end comes the poem of the day.New Zealand By James K. Baxter (for Monte Holcroft)These unshaped islands, on the sawyers bench,Wait for the chisel of the mind,Green canyons to the south, immense and passive,Penetrated rarely, seeded onlyBy the deer-cullers shot, or else in the northTribes of the shark and the octopus,Mangroves, black hair on a boxers hand. The founding fathers with their guns and bibles,Botanist, whaler, added bones and namesTo the land, to us a bridleAs if the id were a horse: the swampy townsLike dreamers that struggle to wake,Longing for the poets truthAnd the lovers pride. Something new and oldExplores its own pain, hearingThe rains choir on curtains of grey mossOr fingers of the Tasman pressingOn breasts of hardening sand, as actorsFind their own solitude in mirrors,As one who has buried his dead,Able at last to give with an open hand.

Nice spot wen we arrived the westcoast. Weather could be better but nice anyway.
After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. We spotted a Tui as we added our ink to the log, but the fog was moving in so not a great view this afternoon. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA
First visit back to the SI since early 2020 and doing a road trip loop of the northern parts of the island. Our main stops are Kaikoura, Nelson, Westport and Greymouth with stops along the way to find some caches. Thanks to the COs for placing and maintaining their caches for our enjoyment.
Up for work, the Karamea and Hector OneNZ sites have recently been upgraded. Even though I already qualify for the 300minutes of the SI challenge, I'm collecting a few more minutes.
Nice little spot. A campervan pulled out as I pulled in, took a pic for a friend in Auckland, then signed the log and was off again.
TFTC weenz, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 5 find(s) of 11 today, making this find #4194

Pulled up and saw a couple cars parked near gz. The occupants were looking at the view so we made our way to gz and collected the cache. When putting the cache back, I collected my arm on the corner edge of the metal sign and gave myself a good graze with blood dripping off my arm. Back to the vehicle to sort it, then we were on our way again. tftc

#11,317. I am down in Punakaiki on a work trip. Today we have been in the field and now heading back to Westport. The sun has set but we had time to look for this road side cache. Interesting marker for the 42nd parallel. Nice quick find here. We signed the logbook and replaced the container where found. Thanks weenz for hiding it here. Looks a nice place to stop on a future visit to this coastline.
Another quick puck up as mr rattll plays in the sand.
Thanks for setting this up for us to find

Wending my way home from Punakaiki after completing the Pararoa Track, tried but happy.
Time for a quick side-stop. I guess that makes for a pretty unique address.

There was a nice bit of weather this week, so I decided on a trip to Greymouth. I had plenty of time on my schedule since this would have been when I was going to the Mega.
Straightforward find. TFTC.

Perfect timing - no one around while I searched for the cache, found it, signed it, returned it, and then three cars arrived while I went to look at the views. TFTC!!
Quick find and last of the day as it is just 150m from where SJT_NZ and I are staying, had a fun day walking and caching around the area. Sadly a number of the walks planned were restricted due to the torrential rain but we still got in a bit of walking and now back to the bach to light the fire and enjoy the views of the crashing waves while being nice and dry. Thanks weenz for this cache, all in good order.
The last find find for Tregearp and me on a wet Saturday afternoon. We were staying locally and hoped to do some of the nearby longer walks but the weather defeated us with rivers in flood and roads closed. Still, beautiful and enjoyed other parts of the Coast. Thanks weenz for the cache.
A nice quick find while stopping for a photo. Log a little wet, but waterproof log strip is holding up just fine. Thanks for the cache
Missed logging this one in. We had an enjoyable trip with fine weather and sun shine. TFTC
On a mad mission today to complete one Challenge cache and fulfill part 11 of 12 for another. 580km later, missions accomplished.
On my way home now. Love this coast.
A quick find here.

Continuing on our PWGT journey visiting the top of the Mainland this weekend. Nice to see the sea again after nothing but green, easy find TFTC.
Heading down SH 6 to Greymouth this afternoon. One of New Zealand's great coastal drives. Really good to be here again today after a long absence. No worries here. TFTC
We were going to have our lunch here but it was surprisingly windy and wild. A man stood taking photos for so long that we wondered if he was trying to hide something!! It was away from the cache though. Cache is all good. TFTC
A nice spot to stop and take a break in the scenic drive. Quickly found.

We had been to Punakaiki and had a mix of brief sun and heavy rain. No rain when we got to here so we did a 'just one more' as we headed back to Carters Beach for tea.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I are on a bit of a Christmas Roadtrip from Auckland to Ingill & back ... we'll be doing a few geocaches on our travels ... this being the 124th cache of hopefully many ... we had been spent Christmas in Invercargill & were now heading back to Auckland, taking the scenic route ... we were now heading North, doing caches as we go ... good to add another 'smiley face' to the tally ... TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #1,858 for us.
Found with NZDi. We are staying at Carters Beach Holiday Camp as a base for a few days geocaching on the Wet Coast. Todays plan is to head to Greymouth picking up as many roadside PnGs as we can, with a few more interesting excursions thrown into the mix.
This is our ninth cache of the day, and was another weenz random roadside cache highlighting a roadside feature that was collected just for the numbers. This was more than just a feature it was a Degree which may come in handy for a challenge one day. We've done the 41 degree south challenge.

*Thanks weenz for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!*

Weather today was unsettled with rain at times.
*We soon had another good cache located!*

Only man made object around right on GPS mark and found without clue, good hiding spot
Today was the day that I was going to head southwards towards Greymouth locating and signing off the roadside caches that I couldn't get with my snail shell on behind. I left the shell back in Westport enjoying the sunshine.
Cheers for the cache.

Felt a little uneasy doing this but a quick find and sign and we were on our way. Thanks for the cache.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on a most enjoyable drive north from Greymouth on a gorgeous sunny day. This is as far we got before turning back as we had left a few caches to do on the return journey.
The sign makes a good reason to place a cache here. TFTC.

Today I started my way in Berlins, went west to the West Coast, south till Greymouth and North again till Reefton. On my way I found a lot of caches, most in good conditions. TFTC
We did all we wanted around Greymouth and now we are on our way to Westport. We had a list of all the caches on the road north. Lots of muggles here but Mrs S retrieved, signed and replaced and they didn't really notice what she was doing. Sometimes it pays to be a great-haried-old-f.....t. Lol.
Thanks weenz

**Found on our February - March tour around the South Island. Logging back home in Auckland in Lockdown isolation**
Travelling from Greymouth to Westport today. We have not travelled this route before and are stopping to pick up several caches to mark our journey. This is the sort of place that almost demands a cache. Thanks.

I started my great and unique round trip over the South Island in Christchurch.
My first major stopover was at Lake Tapeko - here I hiked up to Observation Mountain.
I then planned two days in Mount Cook NP with some unforgettable hikes. My big goal was the Mueller Hut - on a super strenuous hike I reached it.
I continued my journey over the lonely Danseys Pass to Dunedin.
Afterwards I drove along the Southern Scienic Route via Invercargill to Manapouri for some days. On this route I visited many sights and enjoyed the beautiful nature again and again.
I already booked a tour to the Doubtful Sound in advance - another highlight on my tour.
Afterwards I drove on to Queensown and Wanaka. From there I continued over the Haast Pass to the lonely Jackson Bay with storm and heavy rain. Afterwards I drove along the west coast always in pouring rain.
The rain stopped the whole west coast, but I had good rainwear with me. Only high up in Nelson the sun shone again.
Soon I reached the east coast again in Picton and Blenheim and the sun was shining again.
After a few days I travelled back to Christchurch via the beautiful town of Kaikoura.
At the end of my round trip I spent a few more days in Christchurch and its surroundings.
I visited many geological sites and found many caches on my round trip. In Rangiora I visited an event.
I travelled 3418 km and take home a lot of positive experiences.
Thanks to many beautiful caches I was also shown unique locations, historical sites and geological features.
I am overwhelmed by the fantastic and ever changing nature on the South Island of New Zealand - I will definitely come back.
Many thanks to all owners
