Out on the bike riding round today

24-Oct-24
Solved the puzzle last night and luckily spotted the cache straight away once I got to GZ, breaking the pattern I have of seemingly always DNFing puzzle caches Ive solved. TFTC!

23-Oct-24
We realised while doing the adventure lab that we were close to this cache as well so took the opportunity to make the find, TFTC

TFTC! 25 August 2024 4:20:16PM 8360 thanks to Shamus1 for the cache! Solved this one a while back. In the area after the footy today. We were looking to far initially but when we rebooked at the map we managed to make a relatively quick find.

21-Apr-24
On my way towards Ballarat. Not aiming on getting there in a day. Lot's of caches to get. Staying at a free camp close to town.

18-Mar-24
I found this cache today on my Mega Walk #16 - a 38,000 step walk firstly around Ballarat, then in the later afternoon around Geelong. Continuing my walk up through the gardens, I was happy to add this long since solved cache to the list. Thanks from D B-A

12-Mar-24
The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time. For a few days we have based ourselves in Avoca to explore the goldfields area, attend some events, climb some hills, visit out of the way places and learn some history. Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache and adding to our enjoyment.

TFTC. Setting up camp for a week in Murray Bridge before the MEGA for 29th Feb!Moving to Ballarat for another week afterwards. Last hurrah travelling before wooding season at home starts!Happy caching and safe travels!

26-Feb-24
Spent the weekend at Lake Burrumbeet and stopped here on our way home.Came back armed with more specific information of what we were looking for gained from a previous log. Turned our frown upside down! TFTC Smile

26-Feb-24
woohoo..found the sneaky little hide..thks for the fun

26-Feb-24
This was a nice little puzzle to solve while taking a break from walking around town today. Day 3 in Australia and the lovely town of Ballarat. The goal was to try some different kinds and some very intriguing sounding puzzles. Of course this required some help but we have found the cachers around here super friendly and helpful. Thanks for the smile.

20-Feb-24
Going to Adelaide for theLeap Day Mega, caching all the way. This cache, why??daily streaksolved puzzleSolved this one last night as I was falling asleep and got a from the checker. Looked again this morning when I was actually awake and the mistakes stood out immediately. I'd got the correct info but had plugged whatever into coords. Changed the numbers and...Came along and collected it, all good here.TFTC

18-Feb-24
Solved long ago.Stamped today with +Wife. We're in town for the final Ballarat Geotour event.

18-Feb-24
Searched for this on our way to the Ballarat Geotour farewell event, but no luck today.

14-Feb-24
Man, that wind is after searing heat yesterday Got on the bike and pedalled the morning away, got in 26 kliks on the bike, wandering around collecting strays. Ballarat traffic is very cyclist savvy IDK when I solved this puzzle but must have been around 2 years ago It was on the map so had to scoot over here. Sneaky hide at GZ!TFTC Shamus

03-Feb-24
For many years I thought that I was related to William Wallace, however I was mistaken, Robert the Bruce is my relative. As you enter Edinburgh Castle, there are effigies of both men to the left and right of the entrance. The 1995 film Braveheart certainly adds to the legend that is William Wallace. A visit to the National Wallace Monument, a 67 metre tower just outside Stirling in Scotland is a unique educational experience. Thanks Shamus1 for placing this Mystery Cache to enhance the game board and add to our enjoyment.

30-Jan-24
A quick solve, although I cant say the same about the find. Our GPSs took a while to settle, then it became pretty obvious what area we needed to concentrate on. You really have to use your head to find this little blighter, and after nearly an hour of searching, thats exactly what we did.Great hide Shamus1. Thanks for the puzzle and cache.

16-Jan-24
We solved this puzzle as we were heading to town. Arrived at GZ, and although the coordinates had us a couple of metres away from GZ, it was obvious where the cache would be. Finding it, however, was another story. After a search of the area, LumpyJ started to recheck her figures, but before she finished, LumpyR found it. Tftc and the challenge.

08-Jan-24
Last day for the assault on the Ballarat Geotour with isopeda. Lots of rain again as we try and clean up some of the many ALs and bonuses. Tftc

08-Jan-24
I worked this out at home, but have been at the statue a couple of times. Took some searching and revisiting my research. My coordinates were pointing outward. barb2e eventually took the plunge and found the cache. TFTC *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

29-Dec-23
Found during my roadtrip from Canberra to do the Ballarat GeoTour. After finishing the GeoTour yesterday and finishing the 50 Must See Places series this morning, I had time to drive around Ballarat to do whatever else I wanted. The name of this one caught my eye, being the name of my Dad's favourite movie. FREEDOM! I solved this simple puzzle whilst sitting in the shade at the chairs under the Adam Lindsay Gordon cottage. Quick find at GZ. TFTC Shamus1!

Took a deep dive but managed to find it!!! Nice one!! TFTC!!

10-Sep-23
A whole four day trip with Aquilus1 to do the GeoTour in Ballarat some caching around Geelong and anything else that looked good on the way.
Weather was ok albeit a bit on the wet side for the first two days.
This cache was one of the ones we had the oportunity to do.
A nice cache, quick solve and easy find.

Thank you Shamus1 for the nice cache and experience you gave us!

10-Sep-23
Spotted quickly here today.

This cache was one found on a trip away with Flintstone's for 4 days. We had the Geotour in Ballarat as our target, and made our way as far as Queenscliff.

Ballarat caching was a joy, and with the tour, we saw many lovely and interesting locations as well as stopping for many other caches as we passed. Lots of little walks helped with the colder first few days as well as being quite scenic.

A change of weather and scenery towards Queenscliff but the coast was a great place to visit with plenty to do and see. As always, more to do than there was time for, will just have to return one day! Thank you for your cache!

02-Aug-23
TFTC took a while to find but got there in the end

A great puzzle that I'd always not had time to pick up. Great movie too.

This took longer to find than it should have.

Found out and about on the 2023 trip for the Rutherglen Mega. Thanks to Shamus1 and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet! [^]

On a caching long week end with gwd.aussie.
Popped up to attend an event and CITO stayed to grab some caches. With the Begonia festival in full swing a few caches we had to abandoned or come back to but thankfully this one quickly found, signed and returned.

Thanks Shamus1

One last search after finishing the Ballarat GeoTour. I'd worked out the coordinates prior to a previous visit, but not made it out here. Tonight, it was a bit of a search by torchlight, but I managed to spot the thing just as I was about to abandon due to worsening weather conditions.

Thanks, Shamus1.

The log was in poor condition, so I stuck a new one in... and got slightly soaked for my trouble when putting everything back in place, but hey...

23-Feb-23
Found it! Beckksmithh_
Coming to the end of our ballarat geo cache adventure we are currently nice and grubby, so a few more scratches from this search were barely noticeable

02-Feb-23
Quick solve last night first find this morning before my wonder around the lake. log is full had to stamp my name over faded name, sorry didnt have suitable paper to add to cache. .

24-Jan-23
Puzzle solved without issue and today I stopped by to hopefully the find. Not as hard as I thought on approach to GZ and thankfully the cache was soon in hand. Log is full but I managed to sign it at the very top. Didn't anything with me to replace the log, but may do so when I'm next in the area.

Thanks Shamus1....a good bit of history with the topic here.

20-Jan-23
YOU MAY TAKE MY PRIDE! AND THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FREEDOOOOOM!
Lol

05-Jan-23
Having a nice lunch I thought I'd wander off and try the Braveheart, a favourite movie of mine from the mid 90s. Nice easy clues and a shortish walk then got me searching and initially took me closer to the road than it was. After realising this, I found it quite quickly. Log book needs a spruce up methinks.

30-Dec-22
Christmas is over and Hot Cross Buns are now on sale! It must mean it’s time for a holiday. A little late to the planning for this one as we had been busy working on other things. The concept of a caching trip with OzHockeyChick was born and so here we are on Day 5 of the Epic Road Trip - traveling to Skipton for NYE festivities.

After lunch and some grocery shopping in Ballarat, I dropped by this solved puzzle to sign the log. I can see why people may have found this hide challenging in the past, but it is currently quite easy to find owing to some brutal gardening.

Thanks Shamus1 for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

After searching for a while we found it. Well hidden ??

iTEEM is in Ballaarat for a couple of days for a family function, and some team members took the opportunity to find some caches.
This was a spur of the moment solve and search while some team members were hitting the op shops.
With the necessary information obtained, we walked with our pup to GZ and soon had the container in hand.

Find #11858

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Found this while attending the Whittlesea mega.
Depending on the log size and who I was with this is signed as nikid1, ND1 or TQ5 (team Queensland).

The group of us from the north decided to spend a day in Ballarat as we were all after different DTs, attributes and a lovely geoart (as I love Christmas) that we could get here.

Ballarat is such a lovely town. Such beautiful gardens and architecture that you don’t find up north.

This was our last find before heading back to the Whittlesea area at 20:17.
Had to use google but we found the answers and cache before it got too dark.

A great puzzle, which is based on one of my favourite movie! Obviously we just had to do it! A nice quick solve for us today and as we made Pur way through the gardens we shit up to this one. Our GPS was off by about 5m (despite triple checking geochecker and what I had keyed in) but eventually we made our find!

#177 Cache is in good condition but logbook is delicate! Take care my friends

11-Jul-22
We had headed up to Ballarat for a medical appointment and to see Mr Dromaniax's parents.

It was a cold day, I know Ballarat in winter, who is surprised, but damn, it gets cold here.

We had solved this puzzle quite a long time ago, and the last time we attempted to look for it, we could not do so due to a major event in the area.

Today though, it was tranquil in the area, and we were able to get to GZ quickly and without being observed and then make a quick find of the cache.

The cache is in excellent condition. Thank you for this cache, Shamus1.

Last one found with catnap777 before leaving Ballarat together and heading for the two Beaufort events. [^]

Having just arrived at this GZ having riden the very cold pipe to sign our names in Poomoji (GC8EY8N) earlier this cold winter morning, we felt we both had brave hearts indeed, but even more so.... brave butts. SurprisedRazzWinkBig Grin
Our solved coords took us straight to this small cache found, signed and returned in excellent condition. Big Grin

Found and signed with dalerious on a weekend getaway Razz. There are so many caches here with attributes I am chasing for challenges. We came with a list a mile long as usual, half expecting not to get half of it done. Not only did we complete the majority of the list, but we attended 4 awesome events as well Big Grin.

A very interesting story told about this man and we required the small piece of information needed to get some numbers. Cache found log signed, no one hung strung and quarted Razz.

We decided to spend a couple of nights in Ballarat after an appointment in Melb Tues to have a go at the GeoTour and some puzzles that have been in my solved pile for some time.

The weather has not started so well yesterday, but it is great to see some sunshine today but the wind is still cold.

I had solved this puzzle some time ago, so was good to eventually spot the cache. The right angle can make a world of difference.

Another fine Autumn day for a drive around Ballarat.
Sneaky hide, I think we got lucky here.

20-Feb-22
I found the puzzle research much easier than the cache finding! I'd solved the puzzle at home and have previously come to Ballarat with no luck in finding this one. Today was a different story! Heads tucked in where heads shouldn't go the cache suddenly revealed itself. It's funny how one day you see what you can't see the day before. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache Shamus1

**Found 20 Feb 10:40am**

#799

A quick solve with some research before heading to Ballarat for the weekend. Do not be put off by multiple DNFs, this sneaky hide blends in just so. Try different angles and being thorough! The coordinates are spot on, too.

Was here with Snips and Co who had looked for this before without success. She had her eye in today though and made a surprisingly quick find.

Thanks **Shamus1** for the puzzle and the hide. Cache on!

27-Dec-21
Out today to this beautiful area to complete the Ballarat GeoTour with Crank1, Lance51 & silence49. It is very windy and cold here, unfortunately DNF here - next time. Shamus1, thank you so much for placing it and highlighting this area.

15-Dec-21
Nice little find!

15-Dec-21
We found our first mystery cache! TFTC

12-Dec-21
Solved this puzzle some time ago and after the Event, it was off to finish a couple of Adventure Labs and to find this puzzle. No luck for me today. Looked everywhere I could reach, high and low, but no smiley for me. I noticed the previous log was also a DNF. Maybe it is not there anymore or I just had cache blindness. As it was getting late and starting to get dark, it was time to call it a day. Thanks Shamus

11-Dec-21
No luck for me today after an intensive search. Will have to try again

05-Dec-21

We have had this one on the to be found pile for a while now. Today it was quickly found. Thanks for a good puzzle and cache. TFTC

Finally managed a trip away with annual leave I had booked 14months ago. Lockdowns and work hindered this plan, but now I have Ballarat my destination for a few caches.

Puzzle preserved and at GZ I thought for a while before deciding on a likely hide and soon came up trumps.

Thanks to Shamus1 for the placement and fun.

Surprised how quick it was to hand. Lovely smelling flowers on the climber

09-Oct-21
Fairly quick find and the last one of the day.

01-Sep-21
During a sunny lockdown walk with the dog I quickly searched up the required information, located the coordinates and after a bit of a search eventually cache was in hand! I think this was my first mystery cache, I was a bit intimidated due to that but this was easier than I thought. So happy I finally got a chance to find this! TFTC!

Today we found Braveheart on our travels. We have seen William’s memorial in London a few years ago...back when the world was different and we were allowed to travel! Funnily enough this cache was solved during COVID and today we got to sign the log.

Thanks Shamus1 for being part of our geocaching fun.

30-Apr-21
This puzzle had us scratching our collective heads and following many trails until we finally got a solution that looked plausible and the checker agreed. The coordinates led us to a location that made my heart sink. However, it was found in the hedge after only 5 min of searching, which considering the location, was remarkable. Having two pairs of eyes searching helped a lot. The coordinates were very good.

08-Apr-21
With some forced annual leave from work to keep our outstanding leave days low I ended up extending the Easter break and coming to stay in the Ballarat area for a few days mainly to complete the Geo Tour since I missed doing the last one at Lake Eildon. I also had some solved puzzles, and plenty of adventure labs for times when it was raining. I also targeted a couple of virtuals and some whereIGo's as well. Even my buddy Fleabag- popped up for a visit one of the days. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable few days and managed to complete almost everything I wanted to.
This second day of my trip started westward along the avenue and then up around the north of the freeway for some solved puzzles and more Geo Tour caches.

I have had this puzzle solved for a while. I was pretty sure I knew what I was looking for (and I was right) but it still took 10 minutes or so.
Thanks Shamus1 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

14-Mar-21
Managed to work this one out a while ago, and thought I would try grab some puzzle caches to get some more smilies in the area. Found it quickly after a bit of rummaging around in the thick bush, soon had the log in my paws and signed. TFTC

20-Feb-21
Already in Ballarat for the geo tour launch event, so spent my time before the event collecting some solved puzzles and riding the deadly treadly around town doing a few odd caches on the way.
After the event I was joined by half of Chook'n'Chunk and we continued collecting, but some Geo Tour caches entered the mix.
After dinner we joined with Wassel68, Mica, and GoodLook for a few at night, taking in the sights and sounds of Ballarat after dark.

I had previously DNFed this one, but today spotted it easily.
It was hanging a bit precariously so I attached it a bit better.
Thanks, Robmc.
