On a quick Sunday afternoon drive to a couple of the remaining caches in the area, we drove in on the wonderfully maintained road and up to the GZ on a rough track. Spent a few minutes looking and after missing the cache a couple of times, it was finally found and the log signed. Thanks for the cache.

Three weeks ago I decided to take a break from cold Adelaide and head north to warmer climes for a month or so. The (loose) plan was to travel on my own up to Innamincka then into western and central Queensland, camping along the way. Where I go and how far north I get would depend on how distracted I get and how hot it gets.

I’ve made it to Mount Isa, but I think I’ve probably reached my northern limit for this year. Camping out in the swag in this weather starts to get a bit exhausting after a while, although the mornings are fantastic!

This morning I had a look around Mount Isa and surrounds and found some interesting caches. The afternoon was spent trying to catch up on some logs and preparing for the next leg of my trip.

I thought that the area around this cache was really nice and there were only two caravans around the lake - quite a change from most similar spots I’ve seen in my travels. I wished I’d come out here to camp last night.

The cache container was spotted quickly and the cache and contents were in good condition. The log sheet showed that its been just over a year since the last find!

Thanks Kenlee89 for the cache, and thanks for bring me here.

Wow, what a lovely place and camping is permitted. Would have loved to stay some days, but it's Rodeo weekend and were being expected in Isa. The area around the cache is a stark contrast to the lake but still beautiful. On the lake we saw several pelicans and many other birds and fish. For the way back, we choose to take the longer, more washed out way, following the creek. It was some serious 4WDriving for us and the last creek crossing made us give up and take a side route out of there. FP in for all the fun and lovely lakeside

We thought today would be a good day to pick up some caches that were mostly "off the highway" locations.
This cache was found, complete with the running repairs described in the previous log. All was still secure and we added our name to the list of finders.
Many thanks to Kenlee89 form bringing us here to see this beautiful area.

Today we were heading back to the west so that we could collect some of the caches we had missed a couple of days ago. Leaving the van at Mary Kathleen, I remembered to pack lunch today, as there is no knowing where we will end up, or how long we will be.
This was the first of 3 caches and was found after having a cuppa down beside the lake. Pa drove me to within 37 ms of the cache and I managed to have CIH before he caught up to me. It required a bit of a scratch around as the actual cache had fallen from its camouflage. Pa also managed to fix that with a bit of bush engineering.
After my name had been added to the log, it was returned to its hidey hole.
Thanks for placing this cache for us to enjoy Kenlee89.

Found at 1113. Managed to get to within 100M's before having to get out of the car and walking. Found quickly using the hint and some geocaching thinking. I did find out that termite nest mud sticks to timber together better than magnet that is before the chew it out. The little beggers have done a bit of damage I think one of the magnets has disappeared and the cache is difficult to put it back together. The log book and it container are just find.

TFTC.

Turned off the main Barkly Hwy and the road turned to Aaaah ! Our 4WD Hilux ute with slide on camper traversed most of the track slowly but surely, we arrived at the creek crossing and traveling this track with only one vehicle - Yep I chickened out and opted for the 1k walk to the Cache Red Face. Now reading previous 5 logs I did the right thing [^]. We jumped the what seemed not so deep tyre tracks in the river crossing and did a bit of Birding (seeing a few spinifex pigeons ) on the way Cool.
Finally we made it around the road then took a straight line to the cache which had a good viewing point of the dam wall, the aptly named cache container was soon located Smile.
Signed logbook 23/08/2016 4:00 pm and replaced all as found. We then walked down to the Dam Wall and checked that out and headed from there back to the road which lead us back to the Geomobile Smile. We ended up camping halfway back to the road with some cows as company Smile.
Kenlee89 - TFTC. And sharing this great place with us !
A Fav point Too !

While staying at Mount Isa we tackled a few new caches that have been published since our last visit and this was one of them. Together with FelixII we walked up the hill with great views of the lake and the dam. We like the theme of the cache container, log signed and off to the edge of the lake for mornng tea. What a great spot to visit, enjoyed the bird life and the flowering gums. We returned, but being careful of the wet, boggy creek and out to the highway, adding to our favourites.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Travelling around Australia and currently visiting Outback Queensland.

A full day out with Tassie Trekkers caching yippee what fun. Loved this location and took many many photos.

The young calves were so funny when they saw the 4x4's. No fishing for us today and very glad we hadn't brought our caravans in to look at this spot.

We got out to the creek crossing easily enough but since we were by ourselves we didn't think it was a good idea to attempt the drive across the water. Two other vehicles had been through earlier and the water was too muddy to see the track underneath. We hummed and hah-ed for a while before deciding it wasn't worth the risk of getting stuck and that we'd have to log a DNF for the cache. However, on our way out we got about half way back to the bitumen when two incoming 4WDs approached. We stopped and chatted to the drivers, who said that they were going to the lake and said we were welcome to tag along with them. We got back to the creek crossing and after sussing it out, the Toyota Landcruiser entered the water. He didn't get far before he was stuck and had to be winched out by his mate (in a Ford Ranger). Meanwhile, another 4WD approached from the lake side of the creek and drove straight through at a slightly different location, making it easily. The Ford Ranger took that route and so did we (in our Nissan Patrol) and it was a doddle. However, the Landcruiser got stuck again and it was another winch job. After all the fun and games (and making it out to where we needed to be) we returned to the creek and made an effortless return to the "right side". A favourite point for this cache from us, particularly for the adventure and the entertainment value along the way to get to it! TFTC

TFTC a little hike up a rocky hill, searched a bit and was going to surrender but no, eventually found it what a great cache.
Nice view.

This one had me a little stumped. Not being able to find a road had to take the 1km hike upwards. TFTC

Was close last Friday but ran out of time as I had a flight to catch. When I arrived back in the Isa today all my plans for the day changed, thought I might as well give this another try.
As I was alone and without recovery gear I opted for a one km walk from a waterhole (less as the crow flies) Quite sure that I could have found a road but why not go for a walk.
Nice views from GZ and soon I had the crafted hide in hand.
An empty log and a another first for me Smile
A quick walk back to the car.
Thanks for showing me another little gem around town.
