No more tree climbs

20-Jun-17
After a maintenance run nearby, I couldn't resist having another shot at this one on the way home, despite being dressed rather too formally for the task.
The recent log about using satellite view proved handy and confirmed that I had been up the wrong tree last time... but they are very close together after all.
No troubles this time, and I managed the task without destroying my pants, which is great!

Went for a tree climb but had no luck

Here I see the benefits of having the geocaching app on a phone. No plans to head out this way, thus no GPSr on me and certainly no GPX loaded. But nevertheless, here I am going for a walk along the lovely Wynnum Manly foreshore. And of course we always have a phone on us. Whip it out and have a look. Some random Terrain 3 a short walk away, don't mind if I do!

And so flash forward a leisurely walk, some stones skipped along the low water and I arrive at the right spot. Again, phone GPS hardly knows if it's Martha or Arthur, but satellite view helped narrow it down. Satellite view being more accurate makes me feel strange but there you go. I scooted immediately up and hoped I'd find the little sucker once ascended, and indeed I did. Not too difficult at all. I did what needed to be done, then plopped back down to terra firma. A quick and easy little bonus for the afternoon. Thanks for this geocache, vennfamily Smile

10/1/17 Out with a friend who is new to geocaching on a spur of the moment geocache run. I had a few unfound caches along this way and we decided to give them a try. After saying farewell to a new caching buddies we headed back to this one to try our luck on our own. I was feeling optimistic due to the previous finds. We arrived and began the search from the ground. We thought we knew what to look for and the variance in D/T rating was helping. My friend gave me a boost and up in the tree I was searching high and low. Nothing. I sat up in the tree reading some previous logs and checking out photos. Hmmmmm.....maybe it is in the other tree. My friend was still on the ground so she wandered over and soon shouted with delight that she spotted the cahce. Hmmmm. Down and I went and with another boost (this one certainly not as elegant as the last) I was once again up the tree but neither of us could spot the cache again. Thankfully it didn't take long to come back into view and it was a quick and easy grab. Log book signed and down I went. Woohoo....our first solo tree climb together and we did it!! Seeing as how I brought my monkey it seemed like a good idea to send him up a few trees. WinkRazzTwisted

Another boost required for this one and he was off. I was quite happily watching him hunt when a voice asked if we had found it. Surprised

It was the lady who lives across the road. She has helped a few cachers out here and even brought a ladder out for one group. Cool

BC was not having much luck, so the lady kindly pointed it out to us. Big Grin

We had a chat and gave her the web details so she can look the cache up and read all the logs. [^]

Today, teamdfl and myself, have planned a BIG day geocaching around this part of Brisbane with a few target caches planned and finding a few others as we go along. Big Grin
We had our first find around 7 am and our last find was about 4 pm with approximately 20+ finds for me. Cool
With both of us having cached around here before we sometimes had the case of this cache is for me and that cache is for you. Razz
We had a neighbour come over to ask us what we were doing as she had seen a few people climb the tree. Smile
After explaining geocaching she seemed very happy about the strange affairs over the road. Big Grin
Thanks for the cache.

When IolantheK put out the call for some company during a day out caching, Mrs Just a Trifle was only too happy to assist and volunteered for a day of awesome fun Big Grin Together with RhoBoCacher, the intrepid trio made short work of many of the caches in the Wynnum area Wink

It didn't take too long to sply the container and giving IolantheK a boost up, the log was soon in hand. With our names added to the log book, we returned to bumbles to make our way to the next cache.

Thank you vennfamily for having placed the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy Cool

Climbing gear has been essential today.

Spotted the quarry from the ground. Unable to shake it loose and no amount of enticements would coax it down.

Resorted to scaling its home and grabbing it by the neck.

Left my marks inside then quickly returned to the path without getting any scratches.

Mission accomplished... **TFT Climb**

We have one full day in Brisbane today before heading home to Christchurch tomorrow evening so decided to take the train to Wynnum to explore the area (and find a cache or two Razz). An interesting and scenic geotour, with some tricky hides but unfortunately with a high percentage of DNFs. Thanks to all the COs for contributing to our enjoyable day.
I'm not a fan of tree climbing, but luckily StreetWalker is happy to give it a go. He soon spotted the cache from the ground, then headed up. It was an effort to make it to first base, but after that, a straight forward climb. TFTC.

#12833. We haven't had a lot of luck spotting caches in trees on our trip across the Tasman, but I did manage to spot this one, and was soon signing the log. TFTC.

Third time here and with a little help from the sweet lady across the road and the geo-kiddies we got it!

Out for a short caching adventure with the hinds and chasing adventure. Tftc and another tree climbing adventure

Told you we'd be back! Geoboy could get up easy enough, it was the coming down that was the problem today! TFTC Smile

Out and about with Team Triple Threat (Mitchiemus and thehinds) on a glorious Indian Summer afternoon chasing sunsets and tree climbs. This was a quick find, sign and stroll onto the next one. Tftc

17-Jul-16
My usual caching buddies were scared of the forecast rain and our caching adventure today (which involved some high terrain, ropes and climbing gear) was postponed. So, this afternoon, I took a ride on the trusty mountain bike around the Wynnum and Manly water front collecting some of the caches that have popped up recently.

With so many people wandering around the foreshore hunting pokemon's, no body took any notice when I leant my bike up against the tree and casually climbed up. I was nicely hidden from the ground high up in the tree, signing the logbook, when a bloke walking past scoped out my bike (complete with GPS mounted on the handle bars). I thought he was about to pinch it and ride off and was ready to jump from a great height onto him - drop bear style. Thankfully, after a few seconds he continued on his way and I was left to replace the logbook. .

Many thanks vennfamily

Out this morning with geodaughter - nice and quiet and muggle free. Were looking at the tree and deciding she couldn't climb it when the elderly lady from across the road came over to ask why so many people are interested in the tree and climb it. Next thing her hubby brings a step ladder over and geodaughter goes way too far up the tree for any of our likeing. She had 3 oldies telling her to be careful. After a really good look we talked her into coming back down. At least this one is safe from muggles.

Out checking on a couple of caches. All good here. Happy caching

With help of geowife who likes climbing we had success with this one

Nice catchup at a nearby event and we then walked down the path to the trees of terror I do enjoy these impromptu post-event jaunts.

I came over here when these treeditional caches were published but had an epic fail as there was no way for me to reach GZ

Today there was scrambling and logging and even the CO could not resist another tree climb Smile I struggled to get off the ground but did join the cheering squad with gusto.

TFTC vennfamily!

Impromptu caching from nearby Event. First tree cache - so up I opted and located the cache hanging high in the tree. Grabbed it and signed the log for the others present: some one else's turn next time.

Found at 12:35pm on 19th March 2016. TFTC.

After today Event a group of cachers wandered off with the hope of turning a few green boxes into Smilies. It certainly was a fit cacher who climbed this tree so we could get that Smilie. Thanks to the climbers and Vennfamily. TFTC

Could not see from the ground. So got my other half to give me a boost. Then climbed up. My other half was saying you are high enough. He has not climbed mt tibrogargan. Was ready to give up turned around and saw the cache. My other half then saw it from the ground.

Out with OrionJ to try and find a few caches in the Wynnum area today. This ended up being our only lucky one. This is not an easy place to avoid muggles on the weekend. Luckily this one was not proving to be a problem. OrionJ offered to go up for the find but it took the three of us looking to find what we needed. Once found we added our name to the log and replaced the cache. Love visiting this area. TFTC

After making a stop for one of the nearby W puzzles that turned out to be a DNF, it was time to come and hopefully make at least one (but maybe two) finds today. So arrived here with LHE Duo and took a moment to consider the situation.

Well I had not spotted the cache from the ground, but with a rather small amount of passing foot traffic, got a small boost to get up the tree from Mr LHE Duo, and soon above the ground was able to spot what it was that I was after. With a little more moving, I was in the right spot to make the grab and get names into the log. Before returning to Earth.

A pass by #2 left was walking away with a family settled in nearby.

**Smilie #3796**

Sitting quietly at home & out of the blue Geo-Mamma says 'Do yo want to go & get Treeditional 2 & 3?'
My immediate response was "Are you serious? It's night-time, very overcast, no moon & you want me to climb trees now, with my poor night vision, & find caches?
"You're crazy!'
I thought about it for quite some time (about 10 seconds) & said 'Well come on then!' LOL ...
Bundled the Geo-cat into the Geo-beast & made the short journey to GZ for Treeditional #3.
Parked at the kerbside, within metres of GZ, & watched the many muggles taking in the night air back & forth along the pathway.
Hmmm?
Muggle city even at almost 8pm at night!
Did a quick recce & couldn't see how I was going to make that first step.
I did, however, spot my target!
I'm not as young as I used to be or anywhere near as flexible.
Kicked the 'McGiver' brain into gear & came up with a length of rope & a half metre length of 2.5 cm hardwood dowel which was then fashioned into a crude step of sorts to enable my initial ascent.
We waited for a break in the passing parade & then up I went.
It wasn't as hard as I expected it to be.
Quickly had the cache in hand.
It was quite interesting sharing the tree with a brace of flying foxes but we left each other alone so all was good in that respect.
Bugger!
No pen!
Luckily I always carry my caching 'stamp' around my neck so our mark was made, the cache replaced, & it was time to return to solid ground.
Do you know how slippery these trees get with the salty sea air covering every surface?
My left foot slipped slightly & I grabbed a branch, about as thick as my forearm, which promptly separated from the tree requiring a quick foot shuffle & grab to secure my perch & stop the branch from falling on the muggles passing below.
All under control.
Muggles moved on, branch safely lowered to the ground (it was deadwood) & I safely made my descent.
Well that was more exercise than I expected to be getting this evening,
Wait on!
I still have #2 to do!

**TFTC vennfamily Smile**
Great to see more COs placing quality caches in the area!
Favourite point for pushing my boundaries!

**FTF** We got the notification just as we were getting home from our morning outing at one this COs other caches. Having been first at #1 we decided to try for number two and three.

A quick scamper and down to the waterfront. Our puppy provided the cover for me to scramble up the tree and make the grab. Losing a bit of skin I was able to safely ascend and descend making our mark in the shiny new log book. Tftc. Recovered and returned on a day together. Another great addition to the waterfront.
