Not today the local cache guardian (dog). Was on guard and no convincing could stop his barking. Not too good at 7am. Might have to come back. Thanks anyway
Now that we're a bit more wiser as to what to look for, we soon had this cleverly disguised cache in hand...
We liked this one ... Signed log and replaced... TFTC!

Bikerbuddy & I decided to try driving down the Darling Causeway and taking the side road into the valley (Hartley Vale Road?). It turned out to be a lovely road, and a much quicker drive than going down Victoria Pass and the highway.
Last time we were here, for the Views of Mt York cache, I saw a sign for the Comet Inn and commented to bikerbuddy that it would have a cache soon. Pity we didn't drive on and try our luck that day, cause I think this cache was published the next day .
I see that other logs have said their GPS put them in the middle of the road. My GPS had me pretty much spot on, and I instantly saw something that I thought deserved investigation. So I can say that the cache was in the first place I looked. Very clever hide, it fits in well.
We read the info boards on the other side of the road. I had no idea Hartley Vale had a shale oil history. An interesting old Inn and a good spot for a cache.
Thanks

We went away for a weekend to Cowra and Young and this was my first cache find for the weekend. We decided to take the narrow road from the Darling Causeway to here since we'd never tried it before. we arrived in the late afternoon for a very easy find. No-one was about until after we'd replaced the cache and went to look at rthe signs across the road. I hadn't realised there was a shale oil industry here which was superseded by Newnes where my great grandfather worked.
Comet inn looked quite homely. The only people we saw while we were here were two people on the veranda above the street who came out to talk just before we were leaving. Thanks

rogerw3 and I logged 25 caches today, both GC and GCA, and this was one of them. Actually, I found this one on my own, on my way home to Leura, in the late afternoon, just as the sun was setting over the beautiful cliffs.
One of the best examples of a appropriately camouflaged micro that you'll see in these parts -- very well done indeed.
I presume the property owner has given permission for the 'construction' . . . would have taken a bit of work.
Luckily for me, the previous finder didn't quite replace the cache 100%, leaving the tiniest bit of green showing, so I spotted it immediately. Otherwise, it would be much harder to find. (Yes, I put it back again very carefully, so that no colour was showing!)
A wonderful historic spot to visit, and a nice drive through the Hartley Valley. Recommended. Will award a favourite point for this one.
All was in good order with the cache, and it was still dry. TNLNSL.
Thanks to Twem78 for the hide.

this is a lovely spot, no one around on a Monday afternoon so we wandered around looking as obvious as we like. no luck in the first few places we tried, I was sitting down to look at the previous logs when the owner came over the road on the way to who knows where through the gate behind me, saying "you looking for something?" he knew about the cache and we had a chat for a little bit after he pointed us in the right direction. Think I'll be back here for lunch one day too, have to pre-book as they don't generally open so it might have to wait till I can gather a few people to join me.
nice camo, nice spot. tftc Twem78

No, it wasn't the bolt on the post. The owner told us to sit on it so we did and found it.
We always have a lot of fun looking for a cache when the hide is trickier than the usual type. Our GPZ said GZ was in the middle of the road so then we had to start looking from there. First we tried the wrong side of the road and found nothing, so we moved across and saw a glimpse of colour and found the cache in a lovely hide. The log was then signed and all was replaced where it had been found. Thank you for bringing us to this historic area and thank you for placing this cache for us as well as other cachers to find.
The Inn was closed and that allowed me to meander back and forth. I was looking for something a bit on the clever side, and ripped off a thumbnail trying to removed a "plug" from the telegraph pole. As I sat down to rip the rest of it off my finger, I spotted something, well, clever!
Day 1 of our Road Trip.
First of twenty six for today.
The GPS had us all over the place so we resorted to a phone-a-friend. Otherwise a clever hide.
TFTC.

The raucous dog let out a few woofs, then it fell silent in the afternoon heat and flopped down for a snooze.

Returning from the Jenolan Caves MPT and a a wayward Navman brought the 'mushroom to the Comet Inn the long way round. Parking opposite, it is a grand photogenic building, and a wander across the way ... as the Garmin closed the distance a large and decidedly raucous dog made his presence felt on other side of the fence of the closed B&B restaurant. For a micro, rather be elsewhere under the circumstances ... departed. Thanks though to Twem78 for the cache location.
[FTF] with Chuze. Tricky hide in the dark. Gave it a good search with torches hoping no one would ask what we were doing. Unable to satellite area to find where gz was. Chuze spotted it. All quiet here. Nicely hidden. Fav point. Tftc
Hooray, an FTF for me and joshwa27. Took awhile in the dark with the gps jumping all over the place. I was on the wrong side of the road. Very clever. Thank you very much.
