Spending a few days on a family holiday in Eden, we couldnt help but look to see what caches were available when we went to interesting places. We are lovers of all things sailing, so this was a beautiful, calm anchorage in which we could admire the boats at anchor.Noticing that there were two earthcaches close at hand, we did our best to find the answers required to log them. Unfortunately, previous earthcaches have taught us that we are not natural geologists, but we have sent off the answers to the questions, and they are our best interpretation. Thanks for creating these earthcaches, Team Thommo. We have encountered several of them in our travels, and appreciate the unique places you take us.

WOO HOO - 'It's Sedimentary, my dear Eden!' has been my 13th find on my Great Trip Into NSW 2024. I went beach roaming to study rocks in Quarantine Bay - WOW - this is one stunning spot away from the boat ramp. Thanks TeamThommo for setting up and maintain this cache and thanks for the geology lesson. Favourite from me. (Answers to the Cache questions have been messaged to the CO - logging in anticipation.)PS: The Troll Dolls [TN6TR0] were with me on my caching today

**This Cache**

Wow, this was a fantastic Earthcache and walk down the beach! I was quite amazed by all the different rocks, colours and features I could spot along the way as I paid attention to the geology here. So much to see! I was also really intrigued by the clay we found, I don't know if I have ever done an Earthcache with clay before...? Or come across it very frequently, so that was pretty neat. Answers sent to the CO!

FAVOURITE from me, as I really enjoyed this Earthcache!
Many thanks TeamThommo

**Day 2: VB Series**

Today our main focus was the VB series, plus a few extras along the coastline section of the loop! We started nice and early at 7am and had a jam packed day until we decided to leave the last 20 or so for the next morning! We didn't expect the series to take quite as long as it did, but with some tricky hides, tough bush bashing through thick regrowth and a couple of DNF's the time added up quickly! Thankfully we almost had the roads to ourselves, at one point we saw less than a handful of cars over several hours! We did see a big bikie group coming through the forest at one stage also!

Absolutely fantastic series, easily one of the best in NSW! I'm not a big fan of power trails but this was far from one! Just a cluster of awesome caches, on quiet roads with plenty of parking and lots of creativity and fun to be had!

Day 10 of our 2 week road trip south from Brisbane. After overcoming floods, a bogged car and vehicle electrical issues, we finally reached Canberra to spend a few days with relatives before continuing south for a loop around the Snowy Mountains.

After spending last night in a hotel in Thredbo it was then time to continue our trip with a drive up towards Charlottes Pass, then a stop in Jindabyne before heading towards Eden for the run home up along the coast. We arrived here late afternoon, with some time left for caching before checking in to our accommodation for the night.

After completing the nearby sister earth cache to this one, we headed down to the nearby beach to make the required observations. I was carrying my trip notebook containing the various questions for the earth caches on my to do list. We passed by a muggle out walking his dog, the dog having a wow of a time carrying a stick almost the size of a log and determined to bury it before he left the beach. The muggle asked me if I was here to do some sketching but I explained I was here to look at some rocks. We then had a conversation about how the local rocks and their formation could tell you so much about what had happened here millions of years ago. The dog soon become bored of his stick and both owner and dog moved on to leave us to our observations. It's only when you look closely at all the rocks around here that you notice all the different types in such a small area. Thank you for bringing me here and pointing out some fascinating geology. When you are on holidays, what do you do first thing in the morning? For us we get up with the dawn and my my wife goes off for a 15km run, I go geocaching. This is the first time we have both been to Eden and its a lovely little town. Shame we have to head home now.

Lots of fisherman putting there boats in the water hear and at 7.30 am, almost all car parks are full. But I found a spot and then got to enjoy exploring the beach at low tide, looking at small rocks that I could determine.

Thanks for the cache Team Thommo

Today marks seven years since I began geocaching.
In fact, it was in this little town that the game started for me over at the nearby "She sells sea shells...." (technically "Mary MacKillop - Eden" if we're counting DNFs), and "Quarantine it" right in between these two EarthCaches was my third find on that same day.
Since then, 1942 finds have been notched up under the name "Brainiac03" and today, very excitingly, I've shortened it down to "Brain".

As such, it seemed very fitting to be finding these EarthCaches today and a trip was made out to Quarantine Bay specifically to go and collect their answers.
I've honestly been meaning to do these for ages - they were published about half a dozen years ago and I think I've been here as many times since.

After looking at the jellybeans, I took a stroll further along the beach and got to appreciate some more sedimentary rocks.
I hadn't encountered the Wentworth scale in the past and enjoyed its ease of use.
A few rocks were described and compared before the answers were sent off and logging approval was given.

Thanks to TeamThommo for another lovely EarthCache! Smile

Down at the coast with GLISS! to help K8TYBEE celebrate her birthday. Perfect time to grab some funky caches, check out some antique shops and stare at the beautiful beach. Been watching the news in case the dreaded Covid rears it’s head down this way. So far things are looking all clear. Thanks for the cache.

We have had a few weeks rest from caching as life got busy, but now we're back in the car and finding a few. For a while we were sending regular missives to TeanThommo, so today we have completed 2 of their fabulous earth caches at Quarantine Bay to make up for the gap. We appreciate the work they put into developing and maintaining E/C's right around Australia, and try to complete any we find in areas we visit. This was a straightforward E/C on a beach close to where we parked our car. We can understand the attraction of the different coloured rocks, especially after we did another TeamThommo E/C in South Gippsland with millions of very different rocks!

Its been a while since we have made it up to the southern New South Wales coast but we are back for a week or so. Haven't chosen our time well with all the wind an rain that is about but it is still great to be away. But this has been of benefit to the local cafes as we have visited a few!

With a bit of a break in the weather we thought it was time to head out and look for a few local caches. There is quite a bit of new activity in the area since we were last here and with most of it by D G Hoffy, we knew there would be good and varied hides on the agenda. We weren't disappointed!

We managed to dodge most of the heavy showers during our time out and were treated to some magnificent scenery. All in all a great day.

The Canberra day long weekend falls on the first weekend in March so we usually take this time to head out of town. So this year, the caching troupe of us and Rapidlywild decided to head to the Merimbula to Eden coastline to collect a few smiley's.

Day 2, the weather was lovely and it was really nice to get some sea breeze on our faces and sand between our toes.

What a lovely little bay for us to figure out the answers to this EC.
Rapidlywild emailed our answers to Co and we have been given permission to log.

Thanks for bringing us here TeamThommo

With the Canberra Day Long Weekend upon us, the FFLL ladies and I usually take off towards SA or the likes for some caching, however with the unpredictability of COVID on the borders, we decided we would try for something a little closer to home. We decided that we would come down and have a crack at the VB trail around Eden and Merimbula. It was a great weekend away with both the FFLL ladies and it was nice to see the ocean and get some sun on our faces.

Day 2 of our weekend away and time to collect some more smilies. Sure is a lovely location for an Earthcache or even 2 Big Grin A nice large range of rocks to check out in this bay thats for sure. So gathered the required information and sent the answers over to the CO who quickly gave us the thumbs up to log.

Thanks for the Earthcache TeamThommo and thanks for the wonderful weekend away FFLL ladies Big Grin Always enjoyable and always something to look forward to.

We're down in Eden for a few days for a break, and of course we're collecting some of the local caches - because the caches are in all the best places.

We headed out in the perfect clear blue sunny weather along the Bundian Way story telling trail, looking for views and caches, and we found plenty of both - and, a couple of earthcaches.

We wandered down onto the beach, and gazed out to sea where the GZ was 60 meters offshore, and scratch my head for a moment, before checking again and seeing that the waypoints meant that the whole beach was the GZ.

We had a good poke over a bunch of different looking sedimentary rocks, did some head scratching, some guessing, took some pictures and decided on some answers which have been submitted.

Thanks for the Cache TeamThommo , and I'm glad I didn't have to swim.

Drove all the way down to the far south for the park run in Merimbula. Left straight after work Friday and arrived late last night. This morning up early to do some caches before running and then a massive day of caching after that, doing a big loop in the area and ending up in Merimbula again. Good caches everywhere, thanks to the CO for placing them. What a great location to explore, i also love the colour of the rock!

Heading north-east with PacGirl on a Easter roadtrip, we had no real target other than walking up Mt Kosciusko on the way to wherever we were going. I love these unplanned roadtrips where there isn't much of an agenda!
By this stage we had hiked around the top of Mt Kosciusko, made an impromptu visit to the Queanbeyan Mega, and were making our way back home south along the NSW coastline and then west along the Victorian coast.

I had been here before but that was before these ECs were here. Of course I had to revisit, and it was a cool day to be out observing nature at GZ.
PacGirl is not so keen on geology. She was looking east towards the water, while I was looking west towards the rocks.
"Why is looking at a rock better than a view of the sea?" she asks. These muggles just don't undertand the attraction of an EC Smile.
Thanks, TeamThommo - a FP for the colourful earthcache and the clever cache title.

After a great time in Ben Boyd NP, we stopped off at Quarantine bay, not only for a couple of EC's and a Trad, but because it is a very pretty spot, and interesting too. Enjoyed watching the pelicans as they vied for fish scraps near the cleaning tables, and then accessed the delightful little beach, scrambling over some rocks. Excited to find an unbroken sea urchin shells, and some interesting bits of driftwood. TFTEC TeamThommo, bringing me to the hidden beach.

12:00 PM We are from Dallas, Texas, with our alumni travel group, the Traveling Aggies of Texas A&M University, on a cruise from Sydney to Auckland.

It gets confusing when crossing the international dateline, but I'm calling this day 2. So this is Eden. After a long hike from the trailhead to the east, we were glad to arrive at the GZ.

I sent answers and am posting a photo. Thanks, TeamThommo, for the cache.

**This was 1 of 16 caches that was found by me on the 10th of 16 caching days here in Australia. Which also was the 47th of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**

Here we sure had to walk back and forth among the waypoints to make sure that we had seen the correct geological phenomenal for the 2 earthcaches.

The answers for us 4 did I send via Message Center on November 24.

*Together with Ingabo, jsson and Sivun I would spend 16 days in Australia. Our journey started in Melbourne and ended in Sydney. After that I continued to New Zealand while the others headed back towards Melbourne.*
*All in all I did manage to find 263 caches, 9 types, 3 new months and many more statistical fillers.*

We arrived in Eden early this afternoon and during the afternoon visited the sites for three Earthcaches. This was the second one we visited. The colours and patterns in the sedimentary rocks were amazing, enhanced in places by extreme tilting, folding and fracturing. There is such a variety of sedimentary rock types. We thank you for placing the Earthcaches because they have brought us to a wonderful natural beauty.

Answers to the questions have already been sent to the CO.

Thanks TeamThommo for a very enjoyable Earthcache in a very memorable location.

We enjoyed a spot of lunch, with s view of the water, then wandered off to find the nearby trad, and tackle round two of our Earthcache experience. With so much material to choose from, the discussion was quite, er, robust, but we managed to come up with some answers.

TeamThommo, again, thanks for the workout, both physical and intellectual.

Road trip!

leafotwind and I had meticulously planned a trip in the opposite direction to fill a few gaps on a variety of challenges, but with the weather forecast to be reminiscent of an Activities Week tour of all the wet holes in the southwest of the state when I was in high school, a mad scramble ensued to come up with a scheme to complement those goals towards the eastern border instead.

Crossing off a few of the Country Road Atlas maps, finding a March, 2001 placement and a whole lot of Earthcaches meant we got in to Mallacoota just before midnight. Now for day two..

After searching out the nearby trad we thought we'd continue on and compile some answers to this EC. After some debate in selecting the relevant stones and formulating relevant answers we headed back to the car and onto the next coastal EC on our way up the NSW south coast.

A road trip east instead of west! nirgalagrin and I had been planning a trip out over to Mt. Gambier but given the forecast of rain, rain and more rain all through the weekend we scrambled to replan the trip aiming for the other side of the state. As it happened we went a little further than just the border and explored the NSW south-eastern coast. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches found along the way.

DieFraudiemitmuss, Lundi263, Murri24 and I made this year a very great tour together. Our first target is Melbourne. So we started early in the morning to visit the city and to make a few geocaches. We found very nice locations and interesting spots. One day we rent a car. Very early in the morning we drive from Melbourne City over Geelong to the Great Ocean Road. Along this road we found so much interesting spots, we see a great landscape, and had have not enough time for sightseeing. The weather was fine but a little bit windy. This day was very long and hard, but wonderful.
After that we visit the Grampians. A little bit rain, a little bit windy and a little bit sunny day, we had fasten all weathers. We visit waterfalls, canyons, sandstone fomations and any Look Outs. Puhhh, what a great landscape.
The next part of our journey is to explore the Outback. From Ayers Rock we take a car and drive over Kings Canyon and many other Look Outs to Alice Springs. We visit any very interesting Caches and had a great time by comfortable temperature.
Now we drive from Melbourne in direction of Canberra, Blue Mountains and Sydney. We want to see so much as possible of this part of Australia. Today we started in Lakes Entrance and drive to Eden. Once more we find a great location.
This Cache was one of my favorite Caches, wich I would visit in Australia. Thank you very much for showing. This theme was very interesting. I have learned a lot over the australian geology.

Together with Team "GER-17" (consisting of murri24, der Eifelaner & dieFraudiemitmuss and me) I was able to find this Cache today while going with a rental from Lakes Entrance further east (and later on further north as well). We planned to reach Canberra today but finally decided to stay in Coomba for the night. Smile
The answers for this Cache were already sent by "der Eifelaner" and are hopefully ok. Wink

Thanks a lot for this Cache!
Another interesting and beautiful location! Smile

After visiting the Caches we had a great lunch in town. Some very tasty fish&chips. Big Grin

Interesting earthcache visited with junkys during our holidays in Australia.
I really enjoyed this spot. Not far, we saw fishers, pelicans and rays. It was so good to walk along the beach between rocks.
View from this spot was amazing.
Answers were sent to the owner by junkys a while ago.

Two weeks in Australia for holidays with Kirdec.
Day 11. Time to come back to Melbourne. Last day, we drived from Sydney to Narooma, and today from Narooma to Lakes Entrance.
Of course, we do some caches on the way.
Mostly, the caches were found without difficulty, thanks to all the owners for their work.
Greetings from France.

Staying at the nearby cottages, so up early for this one. We couldn't get to both reference points due to the tide, but found some rocks which gave us the answers. Thanks for an informative earthcache, TeamThommo.

Have submitted answers to CO via email.
We visited this EarthCache when we visited Jellybean Rocks. The sun had almost completely set, so we had to borrow a couple of rocks to take back to our accommodation to observe- yes we returned the rocks the next day.
Cheeky little geokid did a lot of rock climbing and had to be dragged back to car!!!
Thanks to TeamThommo for another great EarthCache Smile

This was a most interesting Earthcache with wonderful examples of many types of rocks. It was nearly low tide and we had a great time here. TFTC

This is the real playground for the geologist come rocker. This is a great site to get your fingers dirty when you look around you, soft, hard, and wonderous. Have to pick your time to be here - low tide - opens up the wonders - spent over an hour on the site. Thanks again TeamThommo for making up stop and look around- oh! plus the small hike.

I've only seen it at this beach during my holidays.
Thanks for showing this remarkable beach!

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which is to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach (where we are heading to at present), Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. After a visit to Sydney we will travel on to the Gold Coast, then after spending a few days in the nearby mountainous birding hotspots, followed by an overnight trip to Fraser Island, we will fly from Brisbane to Cairns, visiting yet more good birding sites. We will then drive up to Cape Tribulation before heading back south again to Port Douglas and a day out on the Great Barrier Reef. We then return to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs, where we will hire a 4x4 camper and set off for a week on the circuit to and from Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock. We then fly to Darwin from where we will spend the last two weeks of our holiday making our way to Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Katherine Gorge, Kununarra, Lake Argyle, Emma Gorge, the Bungle Bungle’s and Fitzroy Crossing. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!

We are logging a Write Note only at present in order to keep our cache finds in order, but as soon as we can during our travels we will send our answers to the CO in order to be able to turn this note into a Found It. In the meantime thanks so much for the cache!
