Logs
No finds in 19 months and no action by CO despite multiple DNFs and Needs Maintenance logs. Time for some attention from the Grim Reaper.
As in WICM's log, the structure that was there, like the others, has gone. Been replaced with just edging boards, so unless the cache is actually on the tree then its gone.
I was in the neighbourhood and had time for one last cache - and seeing as I had a failed attempt here last year before it was replaced, I thought it would be the ideal cache to grab. However... today I found the whole site has changed. The whole structure has very recently been removed and replaced with boards at ground level. The cache cannot have survived that one.
Took me a minute to spot this one but found the cache in position and intact as it should be. Log book in order. Thanks for the cache
Found a location that could contain a cache and the container isn't there, If the owner wants me to take this down I will

The only one of this series I picked up. I must come back with my bile next as the track looks like a cool one to ride. TFTC
Nice easy find on a cold showery Sunday afternoon. Not many people around.
This one without getting off my bike and much easier in a leafless winter dressed tree.

# 1643 Trying to secure the last couple of gemstones for the mystery at the museum challenge saw me and the dangerBOY out here late in the afternoon. I had already sussed where this one was craftily hidden on a previous mission to this park so it was a matter of going straight to it while the boy had a play. Gets a fav from me for that absolutely ugly, but effective cam. Cheers trails trails trails for this one.
I've moved this cache a little higher up, as the grounds-keeper seems to be active lower down. Also I've changed the cache name to reflect the new container, cheers.
It got out! This cache seems to have disappeared during council work. I'll replace with an improved container shortly. Cheers
My first of several DNFs today. I spent quite a while here checking the structure but didn't find anything. Obviously too well hidden for me!
No longer attached to anything, but the cache is still there in the area I suspect it's supposed to be. All safe and dry. TFTC.
Find #2956. An epic day of cycling and geocaching in the Upper Hutt Region, attempting to capture as many remaining Traditional caches as possible to clear the map. Started at Petone, catching the Wairarapa train with the bike, for a pleasant 25min and inexpensive $6.50 journey, alighting at Maymorn Station. Cycled some 40km in often 26 degree plus heat, returning to Petone via the general route of the Hutt River Trail but with many deviations. Particularly enjoyed the upgraded sections of cycle trail, smooth asphalt where once there was gravel.
One of the main focuses of this entire day was to complete the walk along the Mawaihakona Stream and find all the caches. I was prepared to park the bike and walk the distance but thankfully the trails were very cyclable as walking them would have taken some time with the back tracking I had to do and in this heat. I stopped at this first one to refresh with food and water under the shade of the tree.
The cache is still there, attached to it's baton but dislodged from the frame of the tree surround. SL TFTC

Christmas day and time to walk off a big lunch and grab some fresh air...8 more caches to reach my target of of 365 for the year...this Trail seemed to be a good spot to knock them off. This took longer than expected due to the broken fence, but a systematic search and there was the cache. TFTC
Quick find as it was fairly exposed due to the fence being broken, did my best to re camouflage the cache owner may wanna suss it out... TFTC
Jess.daphne and I took to the streets of Wellington to find some caches during the mega event and this was one of them. Tftc from team Jeje.
Found with Injeanious as we explored the area during the Mega weekend. We really enjoyed the walk around the stream here and the caches along the way! TFTC!
Down in the Capital for an extra long weekend before exams start, with Jag50, Merlot58 & Bertie Blowfish. this one took a little bit of searching to locate
I’m in the Windy City to attend the Wellington Mega with a few fellow Westies from Auckland. We’re having a great time as we explore the area collecting smileys as we go. Thanks for bringing us here, sorry for the copy and paste logs but am using a Cachly template to log as I go. Took a few minutes to spot bug got there in the end
With a group of fellow west Aucklanders Merlot58, Aiden29 and Bertie Blowfish To attend the MEGA and for a fun long Labour weekend’s caching. Thanks to all the cache owners for setting up and maintaining the caches. Sorry for cut and paste logs. Found but no longer hanging
Team BOP have descended upon the Wellington region for the 2018 WENZ MEGA. We have a lot of caches to get through so there isn’t a lot of down time but it's great to meet the locals, CO’s and fellow cachers. My online logs are largely cut’n’pasted because my memory has started to blur many of my finds together so apologies for that. We’ve signed logs as ‘TeamBOP’ or individually depending on log space and time. Lastly a big Thank You to the Team - TNXPro, Davidsonclan, McJandals, NZFlossy, FapandGap & Squirrel Nutcase and to all the CO’s that made this a memorable trip
Found with bkj97 and kiwi couple while out and about doing what we do whilst attending the Mega. T4TCSL
The structure could do with some maintenance. Cache fine.
Another Mega and the inevitable list of cache finds to log. Not really a chore, just time consuming for this old geriatric. My apologies for the repetitive logs but I will attempt to add a few additional comments as I go. Had a great two days. Catching up with other cachers is always great. Day one was mainly a solved puzzle collection with little blue hen and Kiwicouple. We also squeezed in a few adjacent traditionals and a couple of multis while participating in the CITO event in Trentham Memorial Park. Quiz night was a fun event after a very tasty roast dinner and we were happy to finish only 4 points behind the eventual winners. Day two little blue hen and I gathered a few more traditionals that we hadn't done close to the Mega centre. A few coffees, a favourite point or two, some frustrating searching at one or two and then off home for a rest. Thanks to all the COs for making it another fun weekend. Now to prepare for the Melbourne Mega in November. TFTCSL

After the Mega Registration we teamed up with bkj97 and Little Blue Hen to tackle our list of solved puzzles and the trads along the way. The title of this cache became clear as we approached GZ. Soon had the container in hand, and on to the next. TFTC
It's finally Mega weekend!

Had a lovely time exploring this area today. A very popular walking area. Not sure if cache was as it should be? but hint was still apt and cache was still safe. Tftc.
In Wellington for Mega with others from the Bay of Plenty.
Signed log Team BOP to save room. The team consists of my self Tnxpro , Philip.Perry and McJandals.

Out on a MEGA day pass attempting to find enough caches to make the MEGA Event my 12k find.
Lab Cache #8 discovered, now time to make a few more finds before the CITO Event.
An enjoyable short walk. This could do with a maintenance visit from the CO as it probably isn’t quite where it is intended.

Attending the Wellington MEGA, great to visit here from the sunny Bay of Plenty, these finds have been found with my team members, which include myself, NZ Flossy, Davidson Clan, Squirrel Nutcase, FapandGap, TNXPRO and Philip.Perry and signed Team BOP. (To save room on logs) We are having a blast and gathering lots of smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. (as I have saved the template using Cachly) Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers
Found with StreetWakerNZ as we drove from Naenae to Upper Hutt to attend the Fish and Chip event. We still had an hour to kill before the event, and the day was lovely, so decided to do this loop walk and find a few caches .
We were unable to look for this cache at the start of our walk as two muggles were camped right at GZ. Fortunately they had moved on when we returned. Didn't take long to spot, though had to get SW to retrieve it. TFTC.

After arriving in Wellington for the MEGA event over the labour weekend we took the long way from the airport around the bays and into the city via a few caches. WE joined the motorway carpark after truck accidents closed 2 of the main roads out of Wellington on the Friday before the long weekend, groan! Had a great time at the MEGA where the weather was great, the company was a hoot and the caches well maintained and lots of fun!

Came down to check out a nearby missing cache and found this one half buried. The log was wet so I died it out and have changed the setup. Cheers
Checked cache and found it uncovered. Replaced it under cover, cheers
I came up here after work for a look. It was a little bit out of my way, but I wanted to get my cache for the day. I had a flash back to the day when my son's football ream played on the nearby field and got smashed by Upper Hutt 12-2.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Out with igriffin who hadn't been down to this park before. 6th cache for today.TFTC//
We had an old entry in our GPSr for this cache, so spent a few minutes looking in the wrong spot. Eventually clicked that something wasn't right and checked for updated coordinates. Boom! Easy for once in the correct spot! We had the geohound with us, so this was the only one of the loop that we could attempt today.
Did a walk with Mycro Man, the Fairy Half, Ezratar and the Grandmother.. This whole loop was a great walk. Nice finds. Thanks for the caches...
There were lots of muggles in the park today, but all of them doing different things to keep them busy! Walking a dog, playing on the playground with children, harvesting water lettuce. I was able to go right up to it and make the find. Luckily I have long arms. TFTC
The final find for the day. I had a look around the obvious structure, not knowing what I was looking for. I must have bumped something as when I looked again I spotted the cache lying there. Signed the log and recovered. TFTC (and the series)

Cache # 4,004 - a super quick find, partially because cache was lying out in the open. Looks like it had rolled away from its hiding place. Signed log and tucked it back in where it was obviously meant to go. TNLN. TFTC!

While Gar used the nearby facilities I went for a look for this cache. Easy find (bit longer to retrieve) and had it signed and replaced as found before Gar came back out. Thanks for adding to our lunchtime fun today trails trails trails!
Thanks TaraTed.
I've replaced the cache with a cammoed screw-top pill bottle which should keep things dry. It's smaller tan the previous systema and shouldn't raise the interest of beady eyes and small hands.
Heretaunga Park has become a popular location for the kids painted rock game so they're searching carefully all over the park. I suspect this is what has lead to the systems's demise.
Cheers!

As for the previous finder. Did manage to sign the log - sort of. tftc Lid only and wet log.
The cache was an easy find, however it was protected only by a tupperware type lid with no container attached. Not surprisingly the log was very wet and I was unable to sign. (Picture of the logbook to follow).
Very good.
Took a whole Le to locate, then a bit longer to retrieve. Had to make a tool.
Thanks

Out tidying up a few caches around Upper Hutt this evening. My word, this area has changed since I spent my teen years living very nearby. Great to see the plantings in place now. I didn't know the stream's proper name, we all just called it the Silverstream.

A most enjoyable visit to the Māwaihākona Stream mini trail this evening, and I found all six without any difficulty. This small area will certainly be a wee gem in years to come as the plantings start to mature. The map was much appreciated and was a great help in choosing the correct path to each cache, thank you.

Replaced log and placed cache back in it's lair. Unfortunately Heretaunga Park has become a magnet for the kids involved with www.facebook.com/groups/UpperHuttRocks. 'Painted' stones have been placed all over the park attracting snooping noses and mischievous fingers. I suspect this is why so many caches have been muggled recently.
I checked out ***Birdy or Eagle's nest? (Wellington)*** on the far side of the field and it had been replaced by 2 rocks. The cache had been thrown over the fence into the golf course. I retrieved it but don't hold out hope for it's longevity.
I found over 20 stone 'masterpieces' this afternoon just around the edges of the cricket field. Hopefully the craze will be short-lived.
Cheers
