Nice and dry today no need for the boots I was prepared withWhat an awesome cache

Mr B would like me to put easy find in the log. Except that would not be telling the truth. For him, it was an easy find Luckily, he had Mrs B with him, and for her it was an easy find as she immediately saw what needed to be done. A very cool cache and a fave point from MrsB only as Mr B is still grumpy that he couldnt solve it.

After an aborted mission down the road as we didnt have the correct gear on board we detoured here instead which Im glad we did! We had our gumboots still on from the last cache we did and we are super glad we did as the water to GZ was up the the top of our gumboots! Was a fun walk. Lots laughs. All dry at GZ though and had a lot of fun with the cache. Best version Ive seen. FP

Well this was a surprise intrepid mission! Kept dry thankfully! Thanks for the fun cache.

09-Apr-23
The water level was comfortably below the path and had a serene meander along it. Took a minute to work out what item was the hide, then had fun with the boat launch Thanks supasi

End of a long day and called in here on the way home. Luckily the water level was good and I was easily able to walk dry feet to GZ. Spotted the possible and after some fiddling the cache was soon in the air, then in hand. Nice hide here supasi, like it.

As is so often the case, this is not the week that I ordered, nor expected it to be. Started Monday morning at 0330 with a quick trip to Whanganui Hospital as mrs c has been taken ill, so the quiet week I was expecting became a regular shuttle back and forth to visit. Interspersed with some of those trips I called aside for a couple of finds and a break from the worry. Thanks all COs for their hides and contributions to my sanity!

Not so much a DNF more a DNA (Did Not Attempt) owing to not being able to follow the underwater path. Too far under water even for gummies. Another day in mid-summer I think.

#12,270. A little exploration along Lake Wiritoa in Kaitoke. Very good infrastructure for waterskiing here. Fortunately, GZ itself was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find. Great hide. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Favorite point added.

Thanks for the field puzzle and placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

We got to within 40 metres of the cache at which stage we were faced with the options of wading through quite deep water or clambering along the sloping bank, neither of which appealed to a couple of geriatrics.

(# 6415). This weekend I traveled up to Wanganui primarily to attend the famous Rattl Christmas event on te Sunday. So what could be better than going up one day early in order to grab a few caches. The weather treated me well and it was a successful trip. Well, this one turned out to be a bit of an adventure due to all the recent rain and the pathway was completely inundated with water all the way to the GZ. So what does an intrepid cacher do? One goes to the cache by way of bashing your way on the bank. A quick find but had to work out a second plan of action as I worked out immediately what to do but I didn't want the container to land in the water. Safely accomplished and the log was soon signed then returned safely to its hiding place. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here.

Heading out of town on my way back to Wellington and thought I'd call in and check out this lake ... and its caches. All quiet at the parking area, butt the lake level must be up because the lower level path was under water. Fortunately there was another path a little higher up that enable me to get to the GZ without getting my feet wet. Once there I figured out was was required and soon had the cache in hand. All good here, TFTC.

What an awesome cache! Spotted it as we got near the GZ. Figured out pretty quickly how to retrieve the cache. TFTC!

We had a very nice holiday in New Zealand. Almost every day beautiful weather. We traveled with the camper home from the north to the south island. we have found a lot of very nice caches. Thanks for showing the nice places where we found the caches.
Greetings from the Netherlands

Beautiful evening to be out caching. Club night for the water skiers. Fortunately not too many about and none at GZ. Great cache which deserves a favourite. Thanks for the ingenuity.

no luck here with many waterskiing.

It was a bit of an awkward walk to get to the cache site but it was well worth the effort. A wee amount of thinking was needed to find the treasure - what a great cache!

Had dinner back at Zara, now out wandering to pick up a few more back along SH3. Time for a walk. But this one became a mission along the lake edge as a fallen pine across the track made access difficult. You had to be careful in some places of walking on water as the vegetation sank as you stepped on it. Glad we perservered as this cache is great. Gets fav from me. All working well for a quick snag and tag at GZ. Cheers

Day 2- Sunday, 15 December. Palmerston to Wanganui today.
With the Etherlord Kids in tow we head north towards Wanganui and the awesome Rattls BBQ. Then TS and I head towards Wanganui then team up with Infoferret for an afternoon of caching.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

This cache was a bit of a scramble, as a pine tree had been trimmed and the bits left all over the track. Made for an awkward scramble as we weren't sure just how stable was some of what we had to stand on. Almost turned back but I said we can get over this. Love th e old docks covered by bullrushes.

Day two of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki.
Left Palmerston North and headed to Rattll's Christmas Barbecue event. Managed to travel as far as Whanganui - it's going to be a slow trip!!

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

Very glad to finally get this one BUT the new house above has cut down alot of pine trees ( blocking their view) and these lay scattered /piled along the lake edge making getting to the GZ very very difficult!.

24-Nov-19
The approach to GZ is challenging because of the recent felling of a pine tree.Whew, made it!Now to find it.This took a little while, then I found this clever cache!Wrote the log and re-concealed carefully.A favourite!TFTC!

Now that I’m back based in Wanganui I only have a handful of candidate Geocaches available for filling in my statistical dot days. I am spreading them out and only picking up one on any given weekday as this is when it is a little harder to get out to some of the ones that take a bit more effort to get to.

I looked at this one a couple of weekends ago, there appeared to be two paths, one that had a gate on it down at the lakes edge which at first glance appeared to be there for safety, to stop people going along the unmaintained water’s edge, the other a higher well-trodden path that looked like it would circle up and over to the cache location.

Well on that day i first turned up the place was crawling with muggles but we headed off past them and over to the upper track. We meet a guy coming the other way and were asked if we were members of the club. We soon discovered (in a polite way) that this was a track over “private” land that went up to the house, it was not for public use, there was in fact no public access around the lake as much of it was bordered by private land, he suggested we check out the other end of the lake where there was plenty of places to go wondering. We thanked him for the information and went on our way.

Today the forecast was for heavy rain in the afternoon so I chanced another visit at lunch to check out the lower track, hoping the earlier weekend activities did not continue on into the weekdays, and if they did the imminent rain might scare people away. The place was happily deserted.

I ventured through the gate and immediately started spitting out sand-flies. At first there was little room between lakes edge and adjoining bank, but expecting it might be wet from recent rain and the cache write up I had come prepared, i was wearing my boots. I continued on a bit further as there did appeared to be an old track, as it turns out old enough to allow enough vegetation to grow mid track in areas that needed to be walked around. A little further and I got to ground zero where I soon spotted the cache.

After a short while I figured out what was needed to be done to retrieve the cache and managed to log and return it without any real issues.

I was certainly glad of the boots, but wished I had the foresight to dowse myself in insect repellent.

Another dot day filled and another smiley face on the map.

Cheers

I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) This requires me to get 25 badges 5 of which need to be gemstone badges. So each time I now go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will help me get closer to my goal

Taking a bit of a rest from my main mission in order to finish off the caches here in Wanganui but this still gets me a dot in my calendar matrix hower finishing it off is in my long-term goal

The lake level was a bit high which require walking through short patches of mud to get to the cache as in the description it depends on the level of the water of the lake by summer it will have dropped to a lower level allowing a dry and mud free access

Got to the ground zero and found the cache within in a few minutes only to find that my pen wasn't working so I headed back to the car to get a working one before I headed off again I made sure I had a working one this time

Thanls for the cache

So we failed at our 2 other attempts today and we're determined to get one today. This was a lot harder to get to than we expected! ! So much going through bushes and trying not to fall in. We started our search too far away having spotted something we though was tge hint item. Then ste spotted another likely item. We found it hurray now a fight back to the car! Wr also almost ended up in someone's garden! Signed on the back as our pen didn't work on the waterproof paper. Fav point for a nice location and an adventure and difficult cache.

Very cool. Another favourite from us

06-Dec-17
This took some finding and I had looked at the launching post but looked elsewhere instead but thanks to good Co ords I finally found it and I worked out how to get it so I wouldn't have to go into the lake
A FP
Many thanks

Another afternoon in Whanganui to find some more caches. Soon had cache in hand, signed log and returned as found. Favourite point from me Thanks supasi for the cache.

11-Aug-17
Stopped here on the way from Wellington to Whanganui today. I' m glad I had good waterproof boots on, it was a bit of a struggle through long wet grass to get to GZ. Loved the cache mechanism, looks so innocuous. Worth a favourite point Smile Signed log, TFTC

wow did anyone else see the cool tree house!! while I go looking for the cache and hubby trying to find a blip to send a message and kaleb heading up the hill to go look at the tree hut, I find the cache oooohhh this isnt just a grab, hubby puts his phone away and takes over (its the only time he will actively find the cache) so I was soon signing the log, few people and dogs around but none where we were, thanks for the placement +fav point

The weather looked too good to stay at home and so making my way slowly North to New Plymouth for a weekend of caching with tmann421.

Enjoyed the walk to this one. TFTC

14-Aug-16
The lake seemed to be fairly full so took the high route. Carefully retrieved the cache so it wouldn't drop into the water before scrambling back. Nice cache setups round here Supasi. tftc and a favourite.

11-Aug-16
Had missed this on an earlier trip didn't have gum boots this time it was too deep even for them had to try the over land approach and was successful this one launched a smile on my face TFTC

The path was muddy and wet which isn't surprising given the time of year. Luckily I came prepared and my feet stayed nice and dry in my gumboots. Upon reaching GZ I quickly spotted something that wasn't quite right and sure enough I was soon catching the cache. I really enjoyed this clever cache. To the casual observer it's nothing of interest but to the trained geocaching eye it is the prize with a very cool way of extracting the cache.

All quiet on a cold but dry morning.

Thanks for the cache +FP

Out checking on a few caches and thought I would grab this at the same time. Parked up the top and walked down to the track where there was a group having a swim. So bent on heading to GZ and gazing at my GPSr it turned out I went right past it. Followed the GPSr up onto the slip which turned out to be the wrong place. Made my way down the long way to look at a couple of launching posts to see something odd about one post. Had a look see and there you go, the cache is launched - log signed and cache left as found. Great concept.

My GPSr was showing GZ was 10 - 11 m away so took a waypoint which was S 39 58.295' E 175 05.553' with 3m accuracy. Hope that helps supasi and thanks for the cache.

Just had enough time to nip out here before picking the youngest Rattll up from the school bus.
We couldn't get the GPS any closer than 20mts heading into the lake - we weren't keen for a swim, so looked around & soon spotted what we thought could be what we were after. Thankfully it was, & as we were pretty quick heading out for this one, we were able to claim the {FTF}. Co ords were about 45mts out - sorry supasi, we didn't take any new one's. I don't know why, but we always assume it must be something we did wrong [:/]
Thanks for putting another cache out here in this lovely little spot.
