Return visit to this one, having found a previously archived cache nearby. Quick find this time around.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Decided to attempt this trail today after work, so caught the train to Pukerua Bay, and headed up to the start. This was the first cache of the afternoon, found after a brief scramble, TFTC
Good find thanks. Scrambled down the bank a bit but all fine. The first in today’s adventure! Wishing I had started out a little earlier tho as it’s a gorgeous day and already quite warm
We stopped on the way past to avenge this DNF, having both scoured the area previously. This time CF spotted almost instantly. Thanks Yeetrees!
Afternoon out with Barefootguru and we decided to target a few caches neither of us had. Pukerua Bay seemed a likely spot not too far away. Both bfg and us had tried this cache in the past with no luck. Today we decided to attempt it again. Waiting for the locals to pass by and back down the embankment. Bfg looked and tried another spot. I headed to where bfg had just looked and spotted the cache tucked neatly away. Another down from the P2P series.. Just a few left if they don't get archived before I make it back.. Thanks for the cache.
Bit of a hunt in the undergrowth at the start of the Escarpment Track. All good, tftc!
Walking the escarpment with Ms M. An almost perfect day. No wind, fabulous views and unusually humid.
This took a bit of head scratching. Not where we first looked. I then read a few logs and found a reference to the terrain rating. Oh, ok, I had better go down to search. A quick find ensued.

Thought this was going to be a ‘found it’ and then maybe it’s a DNF. I think for now we will call it neither.
As we got close to GZ we could see a fairly decent sized object which must be where to look. Searched and searched but nothing revealed itself. After reading a few other logs, noticed that back in 2018 YetiNZ had said coordinates were way off, so had a look further down the track at another pretty decent sized object, which seemed much more fitting with the vicinity. Fairly quickly found the cache and noticed the replacement log only had 2 entries - YetiNZ from 2018 and one from 2015 (the year before this cache was published!).
Very confused now - is there 2 caches or did we find a previous cache from the same area which has since been archived? We signed this one regardless.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
Cheers,

A nice afternoon for a stroll. When I arrived at GZ I pretty much figured out where it would be... as I went down I heard some other people strolling along the walk way so I hid in the trees. They had no idea I was there. So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this cache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. TFTC
Found with brucewwnz who kindly agreed to walk the P2P escarpment track even though he had just a very small number of caches still to find We made the trip NOBO (as the Te Ara walkers would say) The day was quite windy but cloud cover gave us comfortable conditions for the 10km trip between the two railway stations
This one took quite a while to turn up - we were determined not to get a DNF on the the first cache of the day After searching in apparently obvious places brucewwnz looked at the T rating which then changed our focus We stepped off the easy ground and found the goods soon after
Thanks Yeetrees

I missed out on finding this cache when I last walked the track about eighteen months ago. I think it would have been a DNF again for me had ianL1# not found it in a place I never considered. The coordinates seemed to be a little out for me but not by a major extent.
Day 60 of my TA adventure...gonna be a hot one...happy new year
Didn't get many along the trail as not easy with a big pack on and on a narrow track...so thought this would be an easy one!!!! Just couldn't see it t rating suggested not the most obvious spot so looked elsewhere but jandals weren't the right footwear for the job...in the end msg co for a nudge..and returned to make a quick find within cm of where I had previously looked...thanks for the help..

Couldn’t find it anywhere around the seat. A lot of law mowing clippings has covered everything.
Time to have another go at this one. Took a bit of searching but found it in the end. Nice to be able to turn it into a smiley face. Thanks for placing the cache
Thanks for placing this cache Yeetrees
Found on returning from an awesome walk to the second swing-bridge.

We found it but it wasn't as easy as others on the track. At the right angle a glimpse of the noon day sun showed up something a bit orange and a bit out of place....winner tftc.
Dangnabbit, spent far too long looking for this one. The | not - clue got me there in the end!
I'm sure I've had a couple of failed attempts at this, but I seem to have only logged one. Maybe another time was when the cache was missing. Anyway I had another read of the logs, and I gathered enough information for me to be pretty certain of where it was hidden. Today I was driving past and stopped for a quick find - there it was in the first place I looked. Lots of people around, and there was a truck parked along a bit further with some workers doing some maintenance, but they were on the other side of the truck so didn't see me, and I didn't need long anyway! This seems to be another hidden date ticked off in my hidden date matrix - just six hidden dates to go now! Thanks for the cache Yeetrees.
Out performing maintenance with TwigNZ and Stardust718, got permission from Yeetrees to replace cache as it was missing. TFTC Yeetrees
It's been almost 2 years since I last walked this fantastic track. Back then my son and I managed to find 20/32 available caches on this trail, and I've been itching to have another crack at it so I could hopefully find the remaining 12.
August has been a relatively quiet month for me, and so knowing that I needed to find another 16 caches today to achieve a personal goal I set off today, aided and abetted by my son again and by Stardust718. Collectively we call ourselves Team STT, and all of todays logs have been signed as such.
We couldn't have hoped for better weather! Kapiti certainly turned it on for us today. Having previously walked this track twice in the North to South direction, today I wanted to try it the other way around so parked at Paekakariki and took the train down to Pukerua Bay in order to walk back. I anticipated it ought to take us between 4 and 5 hours to complete it, and in the end it took a little over 4 hours 20 minutes.
The last time I was here, we were so exhausted by this stage (heading North to South) that we had only given this cache a rudimentary search. Today I was hoping that with 3 pairs of fresh eyes it should be a doddle, but after a thorough search around I phoned the CO who told me where it should be.
Sure enough, it wasn't there, so with his permission we have replaced the cache, leaving it where we were told it should be. Hopefully it won't go walkies again! In the end I am just happy to get rid of an ugly Blue Frown from my geocaching map.
Thanks to the CO for setting this series up, and encouraging me to come back to this terrific trail.

I was asked to join TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy on the Te Araroa Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay escarpment walkway today. It was a glorious day with minimal wind and we set off hopeful to find all 32 caches available on the trail.
After driving to Paekakariki then catching the train to Pukerua Bay we headed off on the trail at 9am. I was thankful to find all 32 caches (with help from the team) and finished the walk in 4 hrs 20 minutes. Logs were signed as Team STT (stardust718, TwigNZ, ThatWeirdGuy).
We searched and searched for this one 'everywhere' but couldn't find it. As this was, in part, a maintenance run for the CO we phoned to check where it should be. As the cache was not there we replaced it with permission.
Thanks to the CO for this trail and encouraging me to get out and explore more local(ish) trails.

My GPSr zeroed out in a place where there couldn't possibly be a cache. Inspired by a previous log, I searched an obvious item in the hope that I would notice the cache elsewhere. It wasn't to be though. Wanting to make progress along the trail, I carried on although I think I was out of ideas anyway.
Out tonight gathering some clues. Nice quick find in the dark with nobody about. Wind kept blowing the containers away so had to do a bit of rescuing. Thanks for the cache.
I remember finding another cache in the vicinity a few years ago, but no, this is a different one! I knew Mr Yeetrees does good coordinates, so ignored the building - checked the other obvious (to me at least) object, before spotting something else... TFTC.
If it was at station building then GPS is way off, no sign at actual co-ordinates
Found this while walking the Te Araroa track with Flowerydaze. Lovely day for this walk with cloudless skies and little wind. Nice hide, TFTC.
Love this walk, no time today, so just returning to quickly grab a few at the Pukerua Bay end. Not obvious.
Stopped for a wee walk along to this one as I missed it on a previous occasion. TFTC
Found during our post Christmas Lunch . Not where I expected it to be but it caught my eye as I was searching the other obvious location. TFTC Merry Christmas
A few weeks ago my boss in Wellington sent out a notice that our Unit was going to do the Paekakariki Escarpment Track as a Team Building exercise. As a keen geocacher I knew the track had a few caches on it but even I was surprised when I saw there were over 30. That made it a must do, but how could I justify the airfares from Blenheim. I know, there is some training that I need to do and the options were to send me to Wellington to do it or send the trainer to Blenheim. Guess what option I chose.
So yesterday morning I flew to Wellington to do the training. I turned up to discover the server was down so sat around chewing the fat with some of the Wellington team. Eventually the IT boffins got the server up and running and being the quick learner that I am, I managed to complete the training before knock off.
That gave me time to do the Rata Street loop track behind Naenae after work. Not ideal tramping around in the wet bush after the recent rain which continued sporadically while I was out there.
Today a group of about twenty five of us of varying ages and fitness meet at Pukerua Bay station and headed north. the trip got off to a bad start with a DNF at the first, but soon got back on track here. I must admit the cache was not where I thought it would be, but it was in the last place I looked... (they always are).
I spent two and a half years working in Wellington in the mid-2000's and took the odd train trip north. I seemed to recall Muri Station was operating back then.

With a hint like that, we looked in a couple of places before we got the right one
And so the finding begins. Thanks for the hide Yeetrees.

Stopped in to Puk bay for a walk while on my way up to Kapiti. Have done this track a few times and wanted to nab some of the caches at this end.
Quick easy find, had to be careful of muggles

A quick and easy find on a nice walking day. I've been meaning to do this walkway for a while now. Thanks
Today we moved lodging from Lower Hutt to Plimmerton. We cached on the way and did a great walk from Paekakeriki to Pukerua Bay. Signed the cache logs as Ms+Mr KR.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

We didn't have time to do the whole walk today, but started from the Pukerua Bay end and walked up to the second swing bridge, found this cache and a bird skull while were searching
A year and a half ago I did the escarpment walk with the family; there were too many people to cache, and the family is too impatient to stop every 161m. I came back today, in the middle of winter and starting early (in the dark at 6am) to avoid as many other walkers as possible. I did the walk out-and-back, doing the caching on the way out; it took 3 and a half hours to get to the rail bridge. The trip back was an hour and a half with no stops, but it did include a detour round the kohekohe loop.
My first of 6 DNFs for the day. I was searching by torchlight (which sometimes helps - sometimes doesn't!). Previous logs suggest it is perhaps a tricky find, but I was looking for a D1.5 - it could be still there if D1.5 is a bit low.

Cleaning up the last couple of P2Ps that I missed when doing the walk. Hunted for some time to find this one, coords seem to be way off. Eventually located, all safe and dry. TFTC.
We were passing by today and I hadn't located a cache for the day yet. I knew where this one was so it was just a matter of stopping nearby and making a quick walk to GZ.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Nearly brought a house near this station years ago. Station looking a bit lonely now. TFTC
In Wgtn catching up on family and friends. Monday to myself so its a walk along the Escarpment - Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki. So lets go!
Snagged this one and its damp and manky. Left temp waterproof log. Cheers

This was a bit more challenging as we made assumptions about the hint which misled us. But a previous log and persistence were the way forward. TFTC
I was down in Wellington for the weekend and decided to do the Paekakariki Escarpment track from Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki. I had done the Paekakariki side of the trail before the new section was finished, so it was nice to go back and complete the entire trail. I initially focussed on one spot, but extended my search and soon had the cache in hand. TFTC!
After discounting the most obvious structure I looked at the next closest but just have looked with my eyes closed as I couldn't see it. Second look there it was. Thanks for the placement Yeetrees
Since I was the last one to find this cache, I went there today and the cache is still where I found it and left it.
Maybe the object in front of the cache guardian is too distracting, but the cache is not hidden in an object having this - orientation but in one having this
cheers, Cache.Mike

Wow, the P2P trail. What a day! After parking the car at Paekakariki and walking to the start of the trail we decided to take our time, we took a little too much time though. After starting the trail at roughly 11 am we had finally gotten off of the trail by 5 pm. We had some good luck finding caches but towards the end, I think TwigNZ and I gave up on the last few.
Didn’t find this one today.

The Paekakariki Escarpment Track had been high on my 'to do' list for quite some time, ever since it opened. Back in July we tackled it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, although at the time we did it as part of a group of Inline Hockey kids (and parents) so we didn't attempt to do any Geocaching on that trip, but promised ourselves that we would come back and do it again as a Geo excursion.
So today was that day. Good stable weather meant that there were quite a few people on the track which made for some interesting times when trying to hunt without attracting attention from Muggles, or 'Pineapples' as was our code word for the day lol.
I have to admit, that whilst I figured the trip would take longer than the previous time, I wasn't expecting to take almost 6 hours to complete the trail. We started from the North with a hiss and a roar, hoping to have zero DNF's for the day, but we encountered a few genuine DNF's (as in we genuinely think they are missing) and towards the end we had more and more DNF's simply due to tiredness from the heat and a bit of a loss of enthusiasm, but our thanks go to Yeetrees for setting up all these Caches, even though some of the hints left us thinking “you're kidding right???” But this trail enabled us to fill in a few D/T chart 'dots' too, so thanks again.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
Almost the end of the trail for us, and by this time we were logging more DNF's than Finds. Found GZ no problem, but the Hint was effectively useless. There is a large bench seat here which would seem to be the obvious place, but it appears to my eye to be relatively recent so it is hard to tell if this was how GZ was when the Cache was originally placed. Of course it may have nothing to do with the bench seat at all...

This series was found and logged over two weekends The first round was over the labour weekend and the second round to weeks later. Some caches were easy finds, others were hidden well and I and JoshThePirate had to search for a while. Thanks for the caches along this nice walk way [^] Logbook singed with C.M. + JTP.

A quick log to sort out the found its from the DNFS, more later when I get better Internet.
A trip overseas was on the cards with a long haul pencil aircraft trip of 16 minutes had me away from the Mainland for a week and a half on a course in Upper Hutt. Luckily I had a set of wheels at my disposal with big thanks to caching friend wb so I wasn't to be stranded at my digs and able to get out and make some local finds. With a whole weekend at my disposal, I decided on a two-prong attack; Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay trail on Saturday, with a couple of earthcaches thrown in and a planned trip around the headland at Porirua on the Sunday. I managed a repsectable half-century of finds on the Saturday, but the weather never played fair on Sunday so pland were amended. A great walk was had on the Saturday with fantastic views all around and a pleasant stroll which, with caching, took over 4 hours and followed up with a quick 8 minute train trip baqck to get the car. Good time caching in the area, thansk to all the COs for their placements, and therefore my enjoyment.
Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [WENZ Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/) and don't forget to log your attendance on the [WENZ Event Page](https://www.geocaching.com/…/GC78NMQ_wenz-event-2018-wellin…)
Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

I used to live in Pukerua Bay, too. That was a long time ago, when I was but a little Seagnoid. So it's kinda nice to be back here geocaching, and reliving all the old places I've been.
I used to live here, at 94 Muri Road, way back in 1960's, when I was a very young seagnoid, just a few houses up the road. The platforms were here, but there was no stations or shelters, (and certainly no forklifted cabin like we have here now). After finding the cache I walked up the road to check on the old house. The concrete wall beside has been replaced with a timber retaining wall. It used to have the three monkeys painted on it - Hear no Evil, See no Evil and Speak no Evil. The house was just the section at the front, the rest of No 94 has been added on, almost doubling the size of the place. Parts of the kitchen are the same as I remember, although I bet I am just remembering old photos. Across the road from the houses was all farm land. Now it is more houses and trees up to 10m tall.
It is a shame that the station is no longer used, although given how close it is to Pukerua Bay station, I am not surprised. I have a series of railway station caches in the Manawatu which say pretty much the same thing (there are not 40 railway stations in the Manawatu anymore!).

This and the near by cache have fairly arbitary dates as my gps said i had found this but i only remember going down to the stn while the nearby cache said i had not found it! yet i do quite distinctly remember this on I must have logged something wrong so i re visited the sites and i am now very sure that i have located them both I still cant remember the Muri stn one from my earlier visit but i def, found it this time so both are now logged as found!
thank you for these caches.
thank you for these caches.
Having found the first set of this Te Araroa P2P series 3 years ago, it was great to have a few free hours this afternoon to complete the Southern section of the walk. The swing bridges are a real feature, with spectacular views over the gullies they span. The views were pretty good today, with mostly clear weather and just a brief passing shower as I neared the summit. The finds were generally quick and easy, with just a few requiring a little extra effort.

Walking this excellent trail once again with the goal of collecting the newer caches along the southern part. A beautiful day and no problems here. Saw a wood pigeon close by. Thanks Yeetrees.
