A very narrow spot on the track, tricky to stop to find a cache. Luckily it was quickly found, signed and returned and we were back on our way before anyone else came along and pushed us off the path!
I think I tried looking harder for this one as I saw the stairs I had to eventually do just looming on the other side. The fern was a nice place to sit and watch. Tftc
Certainly an interesting diversion, more climbing but very appreciative of the ropes to assist, and made it all ok. So glad I read the logs, especially re "behind a small clump of wind-blown fern adjacent to a flax plant", and yup there it was, TFTC
Out with TharntheHalken on the Escarpment. Very warm day. A bit of a hunt, all good. Tftc!
Walking the escarpment with Ms M. An almost perfect day. No wind, fabulous views and unusually humid.
Grateful for IanL’s log as this could have easily been another sad face.
A recent slip means the track is closed here with a temporary track open heading on up with lots of ropes to cling to.

Found with brucewwnnz We actually found both the original cache and the replacement These were about 6m apart and both within 3m of the indicated location We removed the replacement log and container and left the original which is in good condition It is located behind a small clump of wind-blown fern adjacent to a flax plant Logged with agreement of the CO
ianL1# was in fine form today; so much so that he found two caches at this location. The presence of two containers explains the confusion suffered by some recent finders. We agreed that the larger container was closer to the posted coordinates so we left that one there and removed the smaller one.
Hint ended up a little bit too vague for us to find it, again we were rushed for time and muggles were inbound. Another day.. perhaps...
Cache # 4,972 - This one is a definite puzzler - not for the cache itself, as it was exactly on coordinates and a reasonably quick find - but because it read as a replacement cache last found on 19-12-2019 by Avandee. Signed our names too, more than a year later. Have no idea where all those other "caches" placed should be, or why Avandee doesn't have a log on the site. ???? Anyway, cache was in great shape. Replaced exactly. TNLN. TFTC!
Did with the Wandering Dragons today, as we were, by now, looking forward to the end of the trail, even though it was still a good 4 KM away. Missed it on my first pass, but TWD quickly had it in hand, and we are apparently the first ones here in a year. Thanks!
Replaced cache and log book Please rehide well so it doesn't get muggled

Thanks for placing this cache - I almost gave up on this one but after persevering found the STT replacement in a location about 3m east of the main trail.

Happy to find the cache today, although it was pretty tricky to find...and now that I'm home, I'm wondering whether I found the correct replacement cache? I found a pill container (inside another pill container) with a replacement log in it and it was signed on the back (by redecho I think) so I added my name and date there too. Where I found it the hint definitely made sense. But now that I am home and logging it, I don't recall seeing the two most recent names there, so I think I may have found the replacement cache put out by Yeetrees back in 2018, not the replacement cache put out by TwigNZ in 2019?! Anyway, hoping that the CO will recognise the writing on this replacement log that I found and that my find still counts (sorry the photo is a bit blurry)! I enjoyed the walk, and was happy to make the find when I did, as I was walking back to the car I passed about 12 or 13 walkers heading in the other direction, so I'm glad I had the chance to hunt for the cache in peace. TFTC
I was asked to join TwigNZ and ThatWeirdGuy on the Te Araroa Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay escarpment walkway today. It was a glorious day with minimal wind and we set off hopeful to find all 32 caches available on the trail.
After driving to Paekakariki then catching the train to Pukerua Bay we headed off on the trail at 9am. I was thankful to find all 32 caches (with help from the team) and finished the walk in 4 hrs 20 minutes. Logs were signed as Team STT (stardust718, TwigNZ, ThatWeirdGuy).
We searched and searched for this one 'everywhere' but couldn't find it. As this was, in part, a maintenance run for the CO we phoned to check where it should be. As the cache was not there we replaced it with permission (as per Twig's note below).
Thanks to the CO for this trail and encouraging me to get out and explore more local(ish) trails.

Out and about doing cache maintenance on behalf of the CO.

First DNF of the walk for me here. My phone got me to within a meter of the coordinates, and refused to budge. I checked the likely location, but came away empty handed. Eventually I had to give up, an convince myself that I was just going to have to live with that blue sad face on the track, and just stop putting off heading over that bridge.....
I'm sure that it's there. I just couldn't find it today.

Oh Dear. I'm getting a bit desperate. I've had a few DNF's and a DNA. Searched and searched and finally gave up. Thanks anyway.
Sorry but here is another DNF to add to the other eight. That makes nine out of the last ten finds DNF's. Believe me, I really searched for this one as, although I DNF'd the first cache, I figured I could always attempt it again on my return to Pukerua Bay on completion of the track as it is pretty much a PnG. That would make this my first real DNF and would mar the potentially perfect run so far. I spent a good 25 to 30 minutes here with no luck and after my elation at the previous cache, I was gutted here.
Although unlikely, perhaps another time.

Climbed up high, searched down low.... unable to find the elusive cache
Why.... why.... why.....
Just to confuse you all the posted picture will be of the first swing bridge hehehehe (depends on which way you start!)

With muggles. Hint so many options. Gps bouncing. Another dnf to add to the others
Out for walk with wife and son following a couple of days of really bad weather. This was our last one for the day and took the longest to find. TFTC.
We didn't have time to do the whole walk today, but started from the Pukerua Bay end and walked up to this bridge, searched for ages but couldn't find it, will try another day

A year and a half ago I did the escarpment walk with the family; there were too many people to cache, and the family is too impatient to stop every 161m. I came back today, in the middle of winter and starting early (in the dark at 6am) to avoid as many other walkers as possible. I did the walk out-and-back, doing the caching on the way out; it took 3 and a half hours to get to the rail bridge. The trip back was an hour and a half with no stops, but it did include a detour round the kohekohe loop.
Another bridge - another DNF (3rd of the day)

In Wgtn catching up on family and friends. Monday to myself so its a walk along the Escarpment - Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki. So lets go!
Another swingbridge - cool. It was up and down the steps to try and zero down on GZ. Finally snagged and tagged this one. Cheers

I was down in Wellington for the weekend and decided to do the Paekakariki Escarpment track from Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki. I had done the Paekakariki side of the trail before the new section was finished, so it was nice to go back and complete the entire trail. A quick find here, TFTC!
Encouraging that the teenagers were still excited about rushing to find the next cache! They found this one long before I got there. Log signed and returned to its spot
Should have trusted our instincts on this one. Thought it would be down there but GPS pointed elsewhere so searched for a while in the wrong place before nearly giving up. Tftc.
I love swing bridges. Not that these ones swing much. Heck, there is a five person load limit! A nice quick walk to the other side to get into some shade. Except there isn't any shade. Dagnabbit. Oh well, grab the cache and walk on. There must be shade somewhere!
Out enjoying the escarpment track & grabbed caches when we stopped for photos or a break. Nice quick find. Amazing views. TFTC
The Paekakariki Escarpment Track had been high on my 'to do' list for quite some time, ever since it opened. Back in July we tackled it for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it, although at the time we did it as part of a group of Inline Hockey kids (and parents) so we didn't attempt to do any Geocaching on that trip, but promised ourselves that we would come back and do it again as a Geo excursion.
So today was that day. Good stable weather meant that there were quite a few people on the track which made for some interesting times when trying to hunt without attracting attention from Muggles, or 'Pineapples' as was our code word for the day lol.
I have to admit, that whilst I figured the trip would take longer than the previous time, I wasn't expecting to take almost 6 hours to complete the trail. We started from the North with a hiss and a roar, hoping to have zero DNF's for the day, but we encountered a few genuine DNF's (as in we genuinely think they are missing) and towards the end we had more and more DNF's simply due to tiredness from the heat and a bit of a loss of enthusiasm, but our thanks go to Yeetrees for setting up all these Caches, even though some of the hints left us thinking “you're kidding right???” But this trail enabled us to fill in a few D/T chart 'dots' too, so thanks again.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)
Quick and easy find. Signed the log as "T & T" for myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04).
Thanks for the Cache

Wow, the P2P trail. What a day! After parking the car at Paekakariki and walking to the start of the trail we decided to take our time, we took a little too much time though. After starting the trail at roughly 11 am we had finally gotten off of the trail by 5 pm. We had some good luck finding caches but towards the end, I think TwigNZ and I gave up on the last few.
Nice easy find today.

Walking southwards, the day turned out beautiful and sunny. Thanks for the caches, it was a great introduction for two new cachers I was with, and certainly inspired us to keep racing along the trail to the next one.
This series was found and logged over two weekends The first round was over the labour weekend and the second round to weeks later. Some caches were easy finds, others were hidden well and I and JoshThePirate had to search for a while. Thanks for the caches along this nice walk way [^] Logbook singed with C.M. + JTP.

This series of caches has been on my hit list for the last few days but because of nasty weather it was put off until today. The idea was to catch a train from Plimmerton, where my caravan is parked, to Paekakariri but the trains weren't running so caught a replacement bus. I had a bit of a walk from the train station, where the bus dropped me off to the start of the track.
My GPS took me right to it.
Cheers for the cache.

A quick log to sort out the found its from the DNFS, more later when I get better Internet
It's cool to walk over the bridge while a train is coming past. Another great spot for a cache. Dropped a TB. TFTC
Having found the first set of this Te Araroa P2P series 3 years ago, it was great to have a few free hours this afternoon to complete the Southern section of the walk. The swing bridges are a real feature, with spectacular views over the gullies they span. The views were pretty good today, with mostly clear weather and just a brief passing shower as I neared the summit. The finds were generally quick and easy, with just a few requiring a little extra effort.

Walking this excellent trail once again with the goal of collecting the newer caches along the southern part. A beautiful day and no problems here, thanks Yeetrees.
We started on the track from Paekakariki on a sunny, warm, near windless day. Just magic for late May. Clear views of Kapiti Island, the coastal villages and across to the ranges in the South Island. TFTC
#9169. Another walk from Pukerua Bay, crossing over to Pauatahanui. Today was clear and sunny, and the views were superb. The track was popular in this weather. Met no less than 12 other walkers today … nine heading to Pukerua Bay and three heading towards Paekakariki. Fortunately, GZ itself was all quiet during the visit. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside.

Made it out to my primary target - the second swing bridge. I'll head back to Pukerua Bay now. Absolutely gorgeous day today. Dropped TB. TFTC
Another amazing swing bridge. I could feel the legs still bouncy for a while after crossing it.
No problem making the find here. Thanks for another smiley Yeetrees.
I left a pet rock - a ladybug.

Grabbed a few caches while finally getting to walk this track. Thanks for placing.
Found with bkj97 and AKGLB while testing the knees, ankles and thighs walking the escarpment S to N. Lots and lots of steps for the day. Thanks yeetrees for giving us a lot of places to catch our breath. T4TCSL
Found with bkj97 and little blue hen. Little sister and mum helped us too. Thanks for keeping us busy on the trail.
Another bridge, another cache. Found with little blue hen and AKGLB on our expedition north along the escarpment track to paekakariki. TFTCSL
On my way. A quick find. Very quiet on the track . Not surprising given it is a week day. Walking the new section to the top and back. All in order. TFTC
I will say sorry for the copy and past logs now, we were to leave home at 7.30am so we could get in an early start, turns out we mucked around so much not leaving until close to 8 earning how to use the gps unit (note to self learn and load before a big day caching) stopping for a coffee and muffin and then looking at stuff around town, and trying for a cache up a tree with no luck, so we did it in 5 hours with many stops for the views and chatting to others, and when climbing we were more than happy to wait for people to come down, I personally think it would be easier going in on the north end so you are not doing so many up hill stairs, we loved the walk, as my hiking shoes were still drying for the weekend before I wore a pair of 35.00 sneakers I brought to cover me while my other ones were drying, they did well but feet were killing me by the end, both dad and I loved the walk and all the effort you have put into the caches. - going back up the stairs just didn't feel right and it felt like I wanted to bounce up the stairs
I must have stuffed up the logging of this one as these caches on the Te Araroa Trail from Pukerua through to Paekakariki should all be yellow apart from one sad blue face further up the trail I've fixed it now.
I had to wait for some muggles to pass before tackling this one. They seem to be becoming more frequent.
