### **OWNER MAINTENANCE REQUIRED PLEASE** ###

----------

Hi there HughMcW,

This cache has been flagged by Geocaching HQ as a cache that **MAY** need some attention.

You may recall having received an automated email from Geocaching HQ which explained what you needed to do.

Unfortunately, nothing seems to have happened, so the cache is being temporarily disable - see here: [**Geocache Health Score.**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=713)

**You do need to respond to this enquiry in some way within 14 days, so others know you are on top of it, as well as indicating exactly what is happening with this placement - please don't let a lack of communication scuttle this listing.**

#What should you do now:-#
You have a number of choices so pick the one that applies from this handy list:-

- **Check On The Cache:-** Visit the cache to check, repair, replace or do whatever else is needed, post an [**Owner Maintenance log**](http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=404) indicating the cache has been checked and [**ENABLE your cache.**](https://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 ) Then sit back and wait for the logs of praise to roll in.

- **Place A Write Note Log:-** Reviewers are not mind readers (more's the pity), so without your note on the cache page explaining that the site works are on-going, you have been in hospital, the area is in flood, or some other reason that has prevented attending to the cache, they can't tell what is going on.
You need to post a note to the page (within 14 days) explaining the situation and when a Reviewer next looks at the listing, all will be fine for a little bit longer.
Be sure to indicate **the actual date that you expect to have it fixed** so that everyone knows you are on top of it. If you have a long term unavailable cache (where you don't have an actual date) please **post a Write Note log every 4 to 6 weeks,** so as to keep everyone up to speed.

- **Adopt/Archive:-** If you don't plan on fixing it then you could consider passing it on to another Geocacher by asking them to [**Adopt it**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=54) or alternatively, you need to [**Archive it,**](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=56) so it is removed from searches and someone else can have the spot. Don't forget to remove any remnants of your previously enjoyed cache too.

You might wonder what happens if you don't pick one of the above. Well, when the cache is next checked by a Reviewer, if the issue has not been addressed, or there is no acknowledgment as requested above, it will be assumed the cache has been abandoned and processed accordingly.

Honestly, it's better for you to decide, so please do something before then. Please don't send me an email but instead follow the information/advice posted above.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Bunjil

Travelling the GOR for business today. Once the $$ was done, we headed of to find some excitement. Saw this one and thought it would fitted the build if we could find the start of the path!! After crossing the road there it was. Not a shining light but good enough. The moon
was also well aligned. Made it to the beach and then to the GZ. Unfortunately no success today. Found the logical spot on the left. Nothing. Checked all other spots???? Been some recent rock falls, but still no log?? Found an irretrievable cola, but nothing else despite turning over rock after rock!!! I Fear that it may be AWOL considering long list of other DNF??! The tide was about to change so after 45 min search we headed home.

18-Jan-22
Too many snakes on the way down through the barely existent path for me to brave the walk any longer. Didn't even make it to the beach and disappointed, I trekked back to the car Sad

Second attempt at this one today. Came prepared with good torches and a low tide. After 20+ mins looking for the cache in all sorts of spots. But was unable to locate the goodies. I'll wait until someone else confirms that it's there before trying again.

Started the journey by strolling along to the beginning of the trailhead then as we continued on, it only got rougher (more tough than we expected). As we finally made our way out into light along the beach we left a marking behind us so we wouldn’t get lost later on, continued strolling along to find the CAVE!! BEAUTIFUL SITE!! Took a couple photos then made our way to the back and found the left pocket, lifted up small rocks and had a search around with no luck, started walking down to check other spots when Geo dad and Geo girl had spotted a couple ..MASSIVE WAVES COMING FOR US!! Weren’t going to take any risks so the 4 of us exited the beautiful cave. Dragging our feet along the soft sand, realising it was time to go back as the water was coming in, we weren’t to excited to climb up the rough bush track so we searched the area and found another one! Headed up and found it was a MUCH easier track, when we could hear the noise of cars at the top we realised we were RIGHT ACROSS FROM OUR CAR!! Thankyou SO much for this adventure!! We’ll be back another time and to anyone else searching for the cache, we suggest taking the path right across the road from the car park and then turning right at the fork at the bottom. THANKS AGAIN!! LOTS OF FUN!! and lots of leaches!! Haha

12-Apr-21
With a rising tide threatening to cut off the only way out and the lack of any decent torches we had to retreat early on this one.
We will return with a better tide and more torches to get this one done.

This has been on my to do list for years. Finally it is time to do the walk on the way back home to Melbourne. The water was that perfect blue colour and the sun was shining to make this a glorious walk to the cave. One of my favourite things to do is to find a cache in a cave and this one did not disappoint. Thanks for placing. These type of caches is why I love caching so much.

This has been on my list for 3 years. Unfortunately the past attempts have been put on hold due to the tides. This time it worked out. We parked the car and made our way towards the 'path'
We pretty much followed a water stream through thick dense bush to the opening. We ducked under, climbed over and thru many many trees, shrubs and spiderwebs. The eventual sight of the water was amazing. We quickly headed towards the cave as we had taken longer than anticipated to get to the water. We WOW'd at it and quickly entered to find the cache. Thankfully a relatively easy find once inside as the tide was definitely coming back in fast. We headed straight back out, the boys going back up the scrub we came down from and the girls going all along the beach back towards the mouth of grey river.
Wife had a couple of leeches attached to her ankle, we only realised back at the car. Thx for taking us here

I noticed this cache when I was planning my vacation, although of course I still didn't know how the tide would fit, I added it to my list.
As I approached this cache today on my way along the coast towards Melbourne,
I informed me about the tides and found that fortunately there was low tide just at this moment.
So I left my car behind and made my way to the cave. This was soon discovered and after a little exploration I started to search for the cache.
This took a while, but shortly before I wanted to give up, I found what I was looking for.

I ventured along the Great Ocean road with Sims_Family, hoping the weather would break after 100km winds overnight. We were greeted with landslips, Large boulders crushing container walls protecting the road and excavators clearing the way. This didn’t dampen our enthusiasm to cache.
We had planned to visit the cave the previous day when the weather was a little better, but not letting a little rain get in the way.
We made our way down to the beach, following a steady stream of water all the way. We arrived at the cave 50 mins before low tide but the waves were unforgiving lapping the the entrance with occasional rouge waves for the time we were there. This was only due to 6m swells.
Once inside we were out of reach of the elements to be able to make a quick find and explore.
Log signed and replaced as found

Thanks for the Cache HughMcW

With this cache in mind AusFox; and I headed down the coast today in the hope that the weather would improve as we left Geelong and got closer to the coast. Unfortunately it did the complete opposite. So once we made our way to the trail to the beach it was more like a stream than a trail. We didn't let that dampen our spirits like our cloths and shoes were getting beyond just damp.
Once on the beach we made our way to the cave entrance carefully dodging the pools of water. At the cave opening timing was everything to miss the rogue waves that were occasionally coming in too far. Inside the cave was really cool and we spent a good deal of time exploring after we signed the log book.
Thank you HughMcW for placing this fantastic cache and easy favourite point to give here

Making use of our RDO we headed to the Otway's to explore some beautiful locations for photo opportunities with the added bonus of a cache or 2 with Dyst0pia. This cave has been on our to do list for some time now so we planned the day around the tide, ensuring we arrived when the water was out enough for us to access the beach. After a scramble down the cliff side we made our way along the rocky beach to find the tall opening to the cave. Using torch light we explored the impressive cave before making the find.
Thanks HughMcW for the adventure today.

Taking up the invitation from FB, we met with fellow explorers, au.fait, juc_cacher, Jacko83 and his young assistant at the coastal car-park.
Our initial approach toward GZ had us on a "path" worthy of a T4.0 rating. Retracing our steps, a track was found much more in keeping with the designated TR of 3.5!
Soon we were on a stunning rock landscape at sea level. We made our way to the cave, accompanied by the roar of rolling waves. A thorough check was made to confirm the original cache was MiA. All present signed the log and the replacement cache was tucked into place, ready to be found.

Definitely a cache for the "Must Do" list, a FP from us.

Thanks to HughMcW & Jacko83 for a great experience.

A few months ago I wandered into Colac newsagency to browse their large selection of local history books, to end up picking up 'Tales from the surfcoast, shipwreck coast and their hinterlands' by Jack Loney. One of the local secrets I read about was the Cave of Cape Patton, which was used as a spot for hiding the loot scavenged from ships wrecked on the coast nearby. I had to check this spot out. Wait...there is a cache there!? Even better!

Well, fast forward a few months of working out times and dates, we loaded up for an early start with low tide being around 10am. Any higher would be a real gamble here. With Aysen on pack, we took the T4 route first down the wrong track, which i certainly felt coming back up carring 12kg on my back! Take two and following the trailhead (Thanks Hugh - legend!) we were able to get down to the shore quickly and took our time making our way to the cave.

The cache was replaced, plenty of photos taken and time to appreciate the rugged coastline. Certainly a great way to start a Sunday, and thanks to Phetlern / AuFait and Juccacher for joining! Great to have some locations remaining down the coast that havent yet explored, fantastic. Cheers and thanks Hugh for placing such a cool location, a fave from me.

Oh, and the hint may need to be changed - the cache is now hidden to the right.

An early morning start to combine with Phetlern for some caching with the main target being The Cave of Cape Patton. After that it was Apollo Bay/ Marengo area and the hinterland. Sounded a great plan At the appointed time we met up with Jacko83 and his toddler as well as juc_cacher for a group assault on the cave and headed off hopefully along the recently maintained track. This turned out to not only be the wrong track but developed into very close to a T5 and we had to,retrace our route Once on the correct track all was good and a lovely walk along the wave platform to the fascinating cave. A most enjoyable experience and a favourite point. TFTC Hugh!cW

I drove down the GOR this morning to join the expedition to the cave. That's a drive that never gets old ! Met up with Phetlern and AuFait at the parking spot and soon Jacko arrived. Jacko Jr was loaded up and off we set.

We made one false approach which added a bit to the T rating, but soon had the correct trail through the scrub to the rocks. Tide timing was good and the big swell was no problem, adding to the experience. An interesting walk down the rocks to the cave. In we went and had a pretty good look around, confirming the cache was gone.

Jacko had the permission and the replacement cache, which we all signed and then placed in an appropriate spot, before walking back to the pathway, admiring the local geology and the waves.

Thanks for the cache HughMcW and thanks to Jacko for organising the expedition !

Wow what a spot! Very grateful to the team who replaced this this morning. Such a beautiful view. I was tempted to stay much longer and soak it up but the bugs and incoming tide put a stop to that. There are so many cool little caves along this coastline. Hope to find some more someday. Thanks for placing this!

08-Feb-19
Heading out this Sunday 10am with replacement should anyone wish to join.

Cheers

Permission granted from CO to replace.

Have contacted the CO about this cache as from speaking with others it seems like it is missing.

The CO hasn't found a cache since 2016 so not feeling hopeful about a response. Ideally I'd like to just replace the hide, however if no response in a couple of weeks I'll put on a NM with the aim to place a new cache placement there once it is archived. I know the process for this will take some time, so as mentioned ideally would like to just come down in the next few weeks and place a new hide.

Cheers

Well what an adventure walked forever along the beach picking up shells along the way finally reached the cave went in followed the hint looked and looked but no luck very disappointed after our long walk but the cave was worth it

Entered by stairs before bridge and walked around on the beach. Got to cave and followed instruction to find cache. It has gone. Four people looking and every stone turned nothing. Loved the cave and the walk but such a shame the cache was gone.

Tried to enter along track but bush was way too overgrown so drove down the road and walked in. Looked everywhere but cache was nowhere to be found.

Fishing nearby with Polnevdol last week and we decided to come check this cache out. Was expecting an easy find but after 20 mins looking around maybe it’s not here? Was expecting a straightforward hide after reading the comments and hint but no joy.....

Meeting up with beckNmonts and feathertop, we enjoyed the walk to GZ following the well placed waypoints. Once in the cave we located the cache very quickly. We all marvelled at being brought to this spot today, thanks HughMcW.

10-Mar-18
This cave was our meeting point for the morning. We had pulled over for one cache on the way, by this was our focus. We followed the path down and were soon walking along the beach towards he cave. How exciting, once we saw it! McLookers went in first and soon found the cache. Signing duties complete we wondered how high the water went into the cave, and then wandered back, with me receiving some rock skimming lessons upon the way. Now I just need to find a river to practice in! TFTC HughMcW

This is a really special spot and I was grateful to accept the invitation of Beck and Tania to come here at low tide this morning.
Nice bit of coastal scrub then a good walk along the coastal sandstone pavement to the cave mouth.
such an amazing powerful spot once you are at the back of the cave.
favourite point of course

Was working my way back to Geelong on GOR, after a solved puzzle find this was the next cache. Pulled up, read the notes. Low tide? Check, knew that from previous find. Do I have 1 hour? Nope. Do I have a torch? Nope. Is my phone battery, my only GPS, in the red? Yep. Screw it, im going anyway. It fills a hole in my d/t quest and im probably not going to get another chance for some time.

Made it thru the scrub (curl leaf spider webs by the dozen across the path). Head off along the beach. Holy wow, this spot is incredible. Stop, take pictures. Remember that phone is in red and clock is ticking, resume fast walk. Rinse and repeat last three sentences a few more times. Reach GZ. Mutter expletives in disbelief. Must come back here with my camera. Consume cup of concrete. Turn phone torch on. Remember battery scenario. Realise ill need GPS to find the path back to GOR. Mutter more expletives. Enter Aladdins cave in search of his treasure. Find treasure. Treasure chest has a crack, likely cause of all the wet log comments. Sign damp log, seal bag and container as well as possible. Exit cave. Run Forrest, run.... make it back to path WP with GPS intact. Time is of the essence. Complete path back to GOR in 3 minutes with scant regard for myself or for spiders (there’s lots) and nil regard for snakes (saw none, not that you would probably have a chance to see them if you run through here). Reach car & depart for home lamenting my poor physical condition/aerobic capacity but with a smiley to make it all worthwhile.

Amazing spot.
Heed the low tide advice.
Heed the use the WP’s advice
Heed the don’t look at the pics advice
A reasonable swell makes this place more amazing, but has potential for danger.
Use the suggested hour. Use more, the location is worth it.

TFTC, an easy FP decision for me. Find [102]

Great cache - best 'tour' so far. Well worth the walk!

Set off last night to find this cache only to realise this was a low tide cache only and high tide waa peaking as we arrived! Decided to but some more planning into our adventure and set off today at low tide. What an adventure. Took us ages to get to GZ due to the fascinating rock formations. Found cache easily. So glad we did it with the family. Another cache for the Super Secret Squirrel Squad! Tftc

Found in the company of LionJRB and LumpyJRB. A nice walk and an amazing cave. Found the cache with the lid half off and full of water. Tried to dry things as best we could but our spare logs were still in the car and it was a bit far to get those today. Many thanks for the cache. Well worth a fav point.

Omg amazing. The walk thru the bush was not so great but defs worth the effort...do it. Thanks so much, the log is damp. My advice is take a thick stick to help remove the rocks hiding the cache.

We've never really explored east of Apollo Bay. Today we decided to head towards Kennett River. On the way back to Marengo for lunch we decided to do this cache.
Follow the additional waypoints is all i will suggest. Bush bashing was involved including walking into a few webs.
Once getting to the beach it was much easier.
Did see a dead penguin on the way.

The cave was pretty special so thanks for the hide.
The log book was wet as the bag was not sealed. i did what i could to waterproof it. but i'd recommend waterproof paper.

Continuing our Great Ocean Road Trip,
Purrfect Di, Sebastbat and youngster - Alex -
stopped for a few caches along the way.
Giving this one a fav point because this is what good caching is all about.
One like this is worth ten normal trads or a whole trail of mint tins!
Took us to a place we would never have found without caching.
Not just the cave, but the whole trek down to the seaside, and then exploring
rockpools and weather worn features along the way Surprised
Definitely helped that it was low tide, and the track down was overgrown and
very wet from recent unseasonal rains but still negotiable.
We forgot the torch of course, but the light from a mobile did the trick.
Left a travel bug (Orca from California) to stay awhile for the next cachers to move on.

Visit this place, while traveling the Great Ocean Road, happy the tide was low and it was possible.

found after The Surf Coast Event 2016 mega event. Was targeting the sea caves along the great ocean road on the way home to SA. Day 8 on the road. Turns out I miss read the tide times, high tide was very in coming. Got down to beach and noticed really wet rocks and puddles thought I got enough time to do this. waves making puddles better as I walk to gz. At 135 metres left had to take the " high road " as unable to walk along the " beach " area. goto the cave and had to climb down between waves in coming. Really should have read the hint it coild have saved 5 minutes of searching. took tb. left fav point and had to use the same method to return.

I have visited the great ocean road many times over the last 30 years. I never knew this cave was here, it is always great to find something new in a familiar location. this is why geocaching is so fun. Great cache thanks for bringing me here

Found on a weekend away with good friends. 8 of us tackled this one today. Enjoyed the walk and the cave. Found without any bother, but you wouldn't want to try this one on high tide. I believe there is more caves down that way, but just saw the one on this trip. TFTC

I enjoyed my drive along the Great Ocean Road so much yesterday I repeated the trip today. Another bright sunny day, ideal for more caching!
Wowee - what a great cache this is Big Grin! No mint tin on a post. No muggles. Excellent location, backed up with really helpful cache notes. Simply a textbook example of what a great cache is!
The hard part was walking along the 'trail' as the recent rains made the ground very slippery. And finally onto the beach... Although the tide had been rising for 2 hours, I managed to make my way along the beach and into the cave quite easily. The torch was essential in finding the cache at GZ. Many photos were taken of this magical moment along the GOR.
Thanks, HughMcW - a huge favourite from me Smile for sharing this unique location!

(***FTF***)

Well this was a great expedition.

Appeared online overnight and I was in Lorne.

Should I or should I not.

Then the rains started, let's see in the morning.

Well by 6:30am the sky was fairly clear.

The geodaughter and I headed off.

On approach to the car parking spot we soon jumped out and were on the trail.

I new that the FTF would likely be unfound yet due to the amount of webs glistening with water across the path.

On arriving at the beach the sea was pounding in.

MMM will gz be safe.

On we went and the rains were coming in Apollo Bay, will we still be dry before returning.

The geology here is amazing, great earthcache aspects.

Then at GZ we waited and watched the water for awhile.

Safety first!!

Then in we went and bingo a blank log.

Smiles all round.

Out to the beach and back to the trail.

Unbelievably we arrived back at the car just as the heavens opened!!

Awesome, fav from me for the adventure.

(+++FTF+++)

I wanted to go for a drive with my dad.

It was fun to go and find a cache.

It was cold on the beach.

The waves were high and we walked along.

We made it to the cave and this was fun.

I was a little scared but liked it too.
