Logs
A group of caching friends are visiting from the mainland and enjoying the scenery while caching. The log was signed as team (viipers) who include cybergran V, SciFiRulz, Riddell, Ronice88, icybeetas and myself. I love the building facades even if they are no longer in use. Ive enjoyed seeing the different agricultural specimens dotted around the island. The climate is conducive to the cultivation of such a variety of fruits, vegetables and flowering plants
Found by the VIIPERS. There may not be snakes on Norfolk Island, but now there are VIIPERS. We are V(al Cybergran V) I(an icybeetas) I(an Riddell) P(am weirdobiker) E(velyn SciFiRulz) R(onice Ronice88) and S(ylvia Riddell who is with us in spirit.)Took a little while to work out where the cache actually was as I went around the outside first. Dropped off a TB that I have had for a little while to continue it's journey. An interesting bit of structure left, which seems a little random sitting there by itself. TFTC
A group of geocaching friends consisting of Val (cybergran V), Ian (half of the team Riddell) Ian (icybeetas) Pam (weirdobiker) Evelyn (SciFiRulz), Ronice (Ronice88) and Sylvia (half of team Riddell) are touring Norfolk Island with the aim of finding every cache here. This was a quick find of a cache in good condition and the log signed as Viipers to save space. Thank you endeavour3 for placing and maintaining it as it enhanced our visit to this beautiful island.
Lovely old structure. Now I cant get the tune Underneath the Arches out of my brain! It doesnt look at all like something from a penal colony. Thanks for bringing us here to see it, via geocaching, and giving us the chance to explore it while inking the logbook with our VIIPERS acronym.Gratefully awarding you with another favourite point from Val, Ian, Icy, Pam, Evelyn, Ronice (and Sylvia in absentia)
Quite an amazing amount of beautifully well kept land with such a range of crops on the Isle. Glad my muggle buddy loves the long history celebrated on Norfolk so here we are. And for me its like Norfolk has been a myth or has at least has been in the imagination mirrored by faded school lessons for so longnow the dream to visit Norfolk Island is real! The holiday suddenly looks busy busy with a schedule of tours, events and 70+ caches to find. From the first step on the island everything has been fabulous. Cache found quickly and logged as VIIPERS - a crew of caching buddies from Vic and Tassie ( who include cybergran V, SciFiRulz, Riddell, icybeetas Weirdobiker) TFTC and the fun.
Found as part of the VIIPERS team assault on Norfolk Island on tour around the island. Thanks for the cache.
What an interesting piece of architecture. Love the history even if not known the use. Tftc

#7519- Some caches are diamonds because you spot the most amazing things there too. An easy find in a local ruin! Thanks
(1 of 17 today - including 1 Adventure Lab)Another fun day out with the Woof Patrol ((aka **Calypso 62**, **Jackscruff**; **Goldberry17**, **FunFurMe**, **creativechookie** & me).Today we decided to tackle the west side of the island, starting in the south west and working our way north towards this afternoon's event. And didn't that work a treat.A combination of fascinating history and breathtaking views - and in one instance a breathtaking slope!###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###Why is it that caches placed in historical spots like this seem to have us going around in circles. Maybe it's assumptions re placement.Thankfully we got there in the end and all signed on the non-dotted line. Replaced and away to our next target after a bit of a squizz at the ruins.SLTNLNTFTC
FC??9:20am 220524??Thanks to my ?? Woof Patrol GC mates for patiently waiting and not howling at the moon while I tried to find this cache ????????????with me more often cold than hot while seeking a cache, I gave them plenty of laughs along the way ??????????These historic ruins echo with the very real and ever present challenges NI ???? faces almost daily. The supply of goods to the Island, their storage facilities and capacities, the logistics of relocation for usage or consumption and dealing with the waste and then re-supply all undertaken in often challenging weather ??and tumultuous seas ?? in timber long boats of the past and today our modern aircraft ?? and ocean-liners ??? AND STILL all man handled in small boats to the pier,So it seems, as the French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr wrote in 1849, Just 2yrs after the Kingston prison and barracks were built 1847The more things change, the more they stay the sameSLTN LNTFTC ?? Endeavour3 ?? A very interesting cache, history and thought provoking ????????
Found with Ris768 while travelling on Norfolk Island TFTCLog 3286Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache endeavour3
Today was a free day with our activity being the Progressive Dinner this evening. We headed to the south-west corner of the island for a day's caching and whatever else that may lead to. This was the first stop for our group, Calypso62, Gatherer Hade, Chookie, Goldberry17, FunFurMe and myself which we have called the Woof Patrol. We decided not to have just one person find the cache then all sign the log but when the cache is spotted you move away and call out "Woof" and watch while everyone has the 'ah ha, found it moment'. Hence Woof Patrol. So once everyone had barked at the cache we signed the log and replaced the cache. We then explored the area. What an unusual structure in what appears to be a more residential part of the island. The architecture is so elaborate for those times and it is amazing to see the work of the convict laborers, keeping in mind their general lack of skill and the poor quality tools they would have been using at that time. We discussed what we thought this structure may have been used for 200 years ago then headed off to another cache.TFTC # 6026
So much history on the island. The caches are taking us to some amazing places. Tftc
An extremely interesting location - the arches were incredible. Thanks for placing a cache here & bringing us to this location.
We spent a fun and productive week geocaching on Norfolk Island, as well as seeing the spectacular views. We also did several tours and other activities on offer, which highlighted different aspects of the island life and history. Thanks for this cache.
OCW frazeydaze. A quick park and grab here today. Cache all good. SLRC as found. TFTC endeavour3.

It was getting dark so the phone light came out, but the cache was still easy to find.
#14394 17:35There is always "one more cache to find". On our way back to Aloha Apartments we took a short detour to find this cache. It was already dark, but using our geo-senses and the lights of our smart phones we quickly had CIH.TFTC endeavour3.
This was really interesting. I love old ruins and enjoyed wondering about. Thanks for clarifying that the bowl at the end was indeed a drain. GPS is very accurate, walked straight up to GZ.
Thank you For the a good hunt But one thing is the gps is wrong no matter though
Day 3 of my Norfolk Island adventure. I can understand why people want to live here . Its a little bit of paradise. Wow so much history on the island, Im enjoying my wandering seeing the sites Some logs signed as N2OThis is my 12067find.Thankyou endeavour3 for placing and maintaining this cache
On my last full day on Norfolk Island, I picked out a few isolated caches in places that sounded interesting. (This is one of the things I love about geocaching while travelling.) This was my first stop of the day and the three of us who visited found the ruins fascinating. Thanks for bringing us here.
Heading to the South-Western part of the island for a few caches. This one was easily found, while being careful because of the apparently unstable structure. Muggle next door did not notice what we were doing.
A very easy find in an excellent location for a stop. I never would have thought we could look in here! Thank you
T-Tech and I are visiting Norfolk Island for our 40th anniversary. We arrived from Brisbane and are staying for 2 weeks at Endeavour Lodge, and plan to get some R&R, see all of the sites, learn the history, and gather every cache here so we can claim the Se Dun Challenge Today we had a leisurely start with a visit to the Show followed by a wander through town and a coffee at our favourite cafe. The plan for the rest of the day is to visit Bombora Beach, Crystal Pool, 100 Acre Wood, Headstone Point and St Barnabas Church, gathering caches along the way.Very interesting to see the ruins here and learn the history. The cache was a quick find. TFTC, endeavour3.

During July my wife and I took a break from Melbourne and spent a wonderful week on the Island - the first time for me (but hopefully not the last) and the second for her. Such a delightful place! I took my GPSr, with the traditionals downloaded (I don't really make the time to do puzzles or multis) and figured I would find a few as we went around the place. I never had any intention of finding all 41 of them, but somewhere around day 5 I realised it was actually feasible.
In the end it was a close call - one quite tough-to-get-to cache (Bird Island) I had to visit twice after not reading the description before my first visit and discovering it is really a multi and then stuffing up the calculations so I had an almost blind search for the cache; another (St Barnabas) was out of its hidey hole so took three visits before I found it among some fallen leaves nearby). But I got there and managed to claim them all.
In the interests of saving the limited data on my phone, I only look placeholder drafts during the week and am completing them back home, a month later. So with all due apologies, they are going to be pretty generic for the most part. But I will add comments about those that I particularly remember. No matter how detailed the final logs, I want to say a big thanks to those who have placed the caches and those who continue to maintain them. I had great fun finding them and they really helped make sure I saw as much of the Island as possible. So - a big and sincere TFTC

I stumbled on this place quite by accident while popping down to Bumbora. With no signage that I can find I was initially quite unsure what I was looking at. I also managed to visit without pausing to consider whether there might be a geocache present. Luckily it is a small island and we were staying just around the corner, so the return finding visit was very easy to coordinate and execute.

Good co-ords took us to where we needed to be and a short time later we were signing the log. It is interesting to me that some firm information is not known about this location. With such a prominence as a building and so close by the road it seems odd that information has not been recorded or passed down. But it was good to see and imagine it in each of its suggested purposes. Thanks for making sure we stopped and looked it over by placing a cache here. Cheers endeavour3!!
A fascinating place and one that Mrs. Gunnie was keen to have a look around. We weren't exactly sure where the arches were, but as I tend to load the SatNav with caches, an icon popped up on the map as we were driving and it just happened to be here. Very handy. [^]
We had a good look around then I detoured to GZ and quickly located the cache. Really pleased we found this spot, so thanks for tucking a cache here endeavour3.

Another great spot discovered while caching, and interesting history. Found in good order, thanks for the cache.
Interesting place. Hubby will come back to light paint this one evening.
Thanks for giving us more reason to look around.
Thanks for giving us more reason to look around.
We’re off to the park for a sausage sizzle but spotted this cache along the way. Oops late to lunch again! Miss Zoie got her hands on this one under the expert guidance of miss Em.
What a well constructed set of arches. They seem too well dressed for this to be just stables. Thank you for bringing me to this place. I enjoyed the ruins for their construction and remains.
My final NI cache on our last late afternoon drive to check out the nearby surf spot (I decided to pass on that cache given the steep scramble and recent logs!). When I got here I was a little nervous as the spot/ruins appeared to be in someone’s backyard, but the gate gave me the confidence to enter. Happy for a quick find. TFTC.
On day 2 exploring the Island, with wazza9, quick find, stamped log and replaced. Thanks to CO. Great to see these remains still there.
Wow what a great wall of Arches. Very good spot to take photos off. Stopped to take photos and found a cache here too. Nice quick easy find. Nice sized cache. TFTC. SL. Left a few swaps for the kids to find. Thanks for putting a cache at these stables for us to find while on holidays. Cheers.
The fresh batch of convicts had now been imprisoned on NI for in excess of 24 hrs. Plans to escape to New Zealand have failed, plans to escape to the high country provided the chance to survey other possible exit points from the Island.
The third plan to use a long boat from the North East also failed, it appears Captain Cook was killed by natives of Hawaii during his third visit to the Pacific island group. We were also over 200 years to late for his sail past.
The guards decided to rest this afternoon and a muggle accompanied looking for more supplies at this location.

I found this site very interesting. Thanks for placing a cache here to highlight such a historic site
