On a geocaching expedition from Nelson. Way back in February Isis58, no.13 and I planned a trip to Auckland for the planned Mega event. When Covid struck and the country went into lockdown we decided to wait and see what happened - - that was less hassle than trying to get refunds on our flights anyway. Well, of course the Mega event was cancelled but luckily for us, flying was an option again by Labour Weekend. We changed some of the details of our trip but decided we would fit in as much caching as we could. We were joined by Mrs SoBad. We visited some amazing places, fitted in some walks, came across lots of people - - lots of traffic too. A huge thank you to the COs for hiding caches which presented us with puzzles to solve, took us to great places, were cleverly camouflaged, were cunningly hidden - - sometimes in plain sight - - all of the above and of course an equal thank you for the ones that just gave us one more smilie. We really really appreciated them all. Thanks Big Grin!

So pleased you discovered these broken boulders TheWonderstuff and left a wee momento for us to come and find. No problem with that - all signed off today. TFTC # 16,128

The INSS group of 4 cachers were leaving today but not without finding a few more caches in this area. Having sent the answers in for the earthcache it seemed appropriate to add this cache to the list. A quick find in obvious place and signed as INSS.
Thanks.

Parked up on the funny driveway/sideroad thing and walked to the two options. All good here at the sight of these discarded Moeraki rejects.

Onto the last few of the day and some TWS caches in Silverdale.
A day out today was unexpected as our daughter visiting from Whanganui happened yesterday briefly as she headed up to Whangarei for the weekend with her brother before coming back to spend time with us tomorrow, or Monday for the rest of the week. We decided on a trip out to Orewa and headed along the estuary walkway loop and grabbed a few of the options available there and all was good. Even called in at the hall for a vinyl record sale and picked up an eighties album that I liked. Great weather today though the wind was as strong as could be. T F T C all COs.

Out for a walk during our lockdown. Found the old cache lid first and thought the cache was no more. But then Mr 5 found it TFTC

Out for a walk with AliGle and stopped to do this cache along the way. Had looked for it a little while ago, but only found the remains of the cache. Replaced the cache today with the Co's permission. TFTC!

Out and about with Vistra on a sunny afternoon. Heading into Orewa for a street market. Replaced the cache container and log book as arranged with owner.

30-Dec-19
Heading home after a day in Orewa we not only found broken boulders but we also found a broken cache. All we managed to find was the lid and a wee gingerbread man lying nearby, photo attached. CO needs to check

30-Dec-19
After caching in Orewa we were heading home with Merlot58 and this was our last cache of the day before getting on the motorway. After a search among the broken boulders, we could only locate the remains of this cache - the camo'd lid and a wee gingerbread man cookie nearby - photo attached. CO please check on this one.

As it was a long weekend and today being better weather than yesterday, work having been done around the house it was a chance to get out and find the odd cache in the company of 11HPG11.
Today we managed to find a grand total of 58 caches with only 9 DNF's along the way, and even managed to be home by 4,30pm so as not to annoy Mrs Dragon too much (although privately I believe that she may rather enjoy a day at home without an annoying husband being about the house).

Setting out from Hamilton nice and early meant that we managed to locate quite a few caches without any traffic to contend with, in fact Auckland is rather pleasant at this time of the day without both people and vehicles to contend with.
This was a nice quick find assisted by some inventive parking and turning around. bus stops at this time of the day are fantastic places to stop

Thank you to all the CO's for their hard work in making this day possible, in both the placing the caches and maintaining them. We both had a great day.

When Cats&Dragons suggested a day in Auckland collecting a few caches I was very keen. When I checked the weather forecast I wasn't quite as keen. Determined to stay dry I packed all my wet weather gears and my gumboots. Was happily surprised to not need any of this and we were treated to a stunning day of great weather and great caches. Logs were signed with either HOAC or a combination of our names.

Managed to navigate our way through this new area and soon spotted the broken boulders. Cache was soon found, signed and returned.

I decided to engage in some cache hunting today, before the weather turns for the worse. Time for one last smilie before I grab some food and head for home. I parked up on the side road and made the walk over to GZ. Once at GZ, the cache was soon found in the logical spot. Nice to see a good sized container. I dropped a trackable. Cheers for the cache placement!

I have set myself a challenge for this year to have at least the same number of caches on each day of my calender as the number of years I have been caching.

Today the target is five.

Cheers for the cache.

Just finished signing the log and emerged from the bushes to see a big rain shower heading my way. Bit of a sprint through the road works and back to the car.

Nice quick park and grab on my way home from Orewa. Will come back and do the earthcache boulders further along another day. TFTC

I can't remember why the boulders are here, I seem to remember your earth cache explained why (GC2285A). However, this cache much easier to complete than the earth cache. Just a few more caches for the night before heading home.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... On a flying visit to Northland with the intention of finding very old caches and anything else that is within short walking distance of the vehicle. The gloomy, black sky is an indication that rain is only a minute away...

I don't know why, but we got caught up with searching an area behind the booth... It just seemed like a place where a cache would be hidden. When we consulted the iPhone gps, it pointed elsewhere. We found the broken boulders and located the hide too. We should probably wake up over some breakfast and strong coffee... TFTC.

The Squirrel and my plans for the weekend was to log as many old caches as possible to go towards completing another challenge. This meant a lot of kilometres driving and a bit of forward planning and plus collect as many other caches as we could. The plan was to travel to KawaKawa Bay and stay at Hemi's uncles home.
Early start Saturday morning with our goal to get to KawaKawa. Google tells me its 266 Kilometres one way, but with caching who knows how many km's it will be.
Left Rotorua after work on Friday with a stop for dinner (Cambridge Roast House). Next stop Huntly for a coffee and a chat with fellow cachers, then on to KawaKawa Bay. No caches done on this leg.
Early start Saturday morning to achieve our goal.

7.30am - Must be to early in the morning, making the same mistake and not reading all the info supplied plus following the GPS and just assuming it was there and it wasn't. SLTFTC

Nice decent size cache to drop some TB's off, nice to see some more local caches. Thanks

We noticed these 2 new Silverdale caches get published yesterday, but were busy working and had other plans for later. We were surprised to see last night they were still unfound, and when that was confirmed this morning we decided to head for Silverdale.
We had never noticed these boulders here before - some nice specimens too. No problem finding the very well-stocked container. Opened the logbook to see that we were indeed the First To Find it SmileSmile
Thanks for showing us the boulders and the surprise FTF 23 hours after publication.
Kiwicouple's First To Find coin visited.
