What a great series of hides thank-you, I caught a day where I was free and used it to do this loop, I ended up getting lost and using one of the caches to find my way back to the old track
A long day this was. First its up the hill to get to GSELs event and do some caching, then I need to be down in time to go and pick up a friend and go to a airsoft night game. To start the day I picked up huhugrub and we walked and cached up to the event. Then after the event and FTF I split off with some other cachers to grab a extra couple caches. Then I split off again with Mr-Mcgoo and we met ThatDarnBear so we walked the anti-clockwise part of the loop and cleaned up the caches along there. Then it was a mad dash to pick up my friend and get to the meeting point for the airsoft night game. All in all a good day out. TFTC
I've been wanting to get up into the Eastern Hills of the Hutt Valley for some time, and an event up the top of the Rata Track today was the perfect reason. It was a very successful trip as I found all the caches I wanted to find, and some others as well. This cache was one of them.Yet another very tricky hide that I couldn't see at first even when I was staring straight at it. I didn't have an extraction tool with me which also made accessing the log tough but I got there in the end.---Thanks to Jodanz for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.
There is likely to be a few of us on the Rata Loop Track today with an event being held up the top of the hill. Of course we will be visiting every cache on the way up or down including this one. It's a great autumn day for the walk though. Thank you for placing a cache here to break the journey Jodanz. Found this tricky little brighter while the others watched on. Signed as MIJT for mapleroseNZ, Itchyfeet2020, Justlooking00 and TrinityNZ.
I have come up for the weekend from Christchurch to hang out with my Wellington Geocaching friends and attend the Mana Island trip tomorrow. When I saw a new event published for today at the top of the Rata Street Track, I made sure I was in Wellington early enough to attend. It also meant I had the opportunity to get a heap of caches on the loop walk up to, and back down from the event. The Seagnoid did the honours of seeking out this cache while I caught my breath. He had found it long ago but couldn't remember where it was, so was like a new search all over again! Thanks for the cache.
Heading up to GSELs Xtreme Xercise event today with MapleRoseNZ, Itchyfeet2020 and JustlookingOO. We went the long way, up the loop track clockwise, so that we could collect some caches on the way. The path was a bit steeper and rockier than I expected, with quite a few stream crossings, but I managed to do it without falling in, and got to the top. IF got into the right spot and wasnt afraid to do some feeling around for this, coming up with the goods pretty quickly. Thanks Jodanz for the cache. Log signed as MIJT.
Today, I was part of Team MIJiT (comprising myself, TrinityNZ, Itchyfeet2020 & JustlookingOO), ambling up the Rata Loop to attend GSEL's Xtreme Xercise event. Luckily, the loop was not as arduous as I thought, although the last stretch, up 300-odd stairs, was a workout! Really enjoyed these themed caches, nice one Jodanz . Our good luck continued on with this cache. Personally, I love frogs and tadpoles! I used to 'grow them' when I was a school kid.
This one took us a few minutes but we got there in the end. Unfortunately the log paper is extremely wet.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
This little dude was easier to find than anticipated. Log wet but managed to sign it. TFTC
So cute! I love NZ frogs. I'll hold off all my "did you know" but n frogs are the coolest frogs in the world.
Log is too wet to retrieve- here's a pic.

Cheeky little thing guarding the overpass. Log is very wet so unable to sign, hence photo. Tftc!
A very cute ‘troll’ here. Damp log tho that I couldn’t write on. I must get a kit together of spare things like that! Tether a bit worn too but all fine apart from that
Found this one on an extensive walk from the Wainui Hill Road to Naenae with some detours, twists and turns in between. Once upon a time I had found all the caches in the Eastern Hutt hills, but in the intervening years quite a few more have sprung up. Today's effort was to clean up most of these and find some challenge finals. A pleasant day's walk with Yeetrees, who came along for the company and to find a cache for himself.

This one just hopped into view as I was feeling around GZ. I don’t know where he came from! The log was quite wet but I was able to make my mark and tuck him back in his hidey hole. TFTC
Cute cache on a great loop walk, trying to find some caches for the Wonders of the World promotion. TFTC
Neat caches all along this track. Out with the geokids on the post covid streak. Quickly found the chap with the identity complex TFTC
As it seemed the previous finder had found the "lost" cache a visit was in order. Sure enough the replacement was nice and snug but the much more well camouflaged old one was also now there. Great spotting by Jardisliketardis to find it! So put the old one back in play and took the replacement home in case we need it in the future.
Found doing the loop track. I found the cache on the ground and detached...so I reattached one a spot that made sense from the hint. TFTC
Visited on my Christmas holiday trip to Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Korea. A quick log now to get the correct TB/GC mileage, details later. TFTC!
Replaced cache with newer version which is hopefully less likely to jump away. Let your fingers do the searching ......
With school holidays in full swing this one seems to have hopped away. Will replace shortly.
Out and about with RedEcho. Found the line but no attachments. RedEcho has said a bit more on this above.
Out for an afternoon with MightyMicra, thanks for a very nice track which I have never seen before. We had a very long search for this one and eventually found the fishing line but alas the cache had got away, logging a find for the line! TFTC.
Hi Jodanz, We found the line still attached at one end but sadly the frog has chewed through the other end and slipped away. Thanks for a good hide.
Cache # 4,728 - 2 years and 3 months - that's how long I have been "watching" this cache since my first attempt at it was a DNF. Turns out the cache has gone missing a few times, but it keeps coming back. I have "found" it a couple of other trips up, in terms of sighting where it was for a future return trip. Since this year, in addition to my on-going streak, I am trying to clear up the frowny faces on my map, I decided to come grab this one finally today. Was amazed how quickly I reached the spot - seemed much further in the past - but I soon had cache in hand and signed it. Noticed that the colour of the outside container had changed since the last time I saw it as well. And the cicadas were so noisy that my ears were ringing for many minutes after leaving the track at the end of the walk. Very nice to have another one in the series down - only three more to go (one at a time!). TNLNSL. TFTC.
Consecutive caching day # 2,111
Oh, and completely agree this is NOT a 1 difficulty.

Found this with Mum as 'Jess & Caro'. She is now Carø and I now have my own geocaching profile so we are sorting my logs for caches we found together. TFTC!
I'd been up the hill signing a challenge cache and when I got back down to this area I figured I'd pause a few minutes, enjoy the cool, and search for the cache. A sneaky little one, took me a few minutes to lure it out. Thanks for the cache and rest spot, Jodanz!
We had to work hard, before we found this cache!!! It should be definitely not only D1 -( D2,5 or D3??)
Unfortunately we met some dog holders, not really well trained with their dogs, so that we had some small problems to pass.
But finally we have to admit, that the idea is nice. Thank you.
We leave a blue ribbon, so that the next caches can fid easier.

A few weeks ago my boss in Wellington sent out a notice that our Unit was going to do the Paekakariki Escarpment Track as a Team Building exercise. As a keen geocacher I knew the track had a few caches on it but even I was surprised when I saw there were over 30. That made it a must do, but how could I justify the airfares from Blenheim. I know, there is some training that I need to do and the options were to send me to Wellington to do it or send the trainer to Blenheim. Guess what option I chose.
So this morning I flew to Wellington to do the training. I turned up to discover the server was down so sat around chewing the fat with some of the Wellington team. Eventually the IT boffins got the server up and running and being the quick learner that I am, I managed to complete the training before knock off.
As I had taken the opportunity to do this training in conjunction with a Team Build get together (Walking the Paekakariki Escarpment) tomorrow, I had an overnighter in the Hutt Valley. What was I to do this evening? Before I came across, I looked to see if I could find any missing D/Ts and discovered 'The 1000 Day Challenge' which I easily qualified for. I also saw the best way to get to it included the Rata Street loop track. That had Wednesday evenings activities sorted.
I started the track at 5.30pm and got off it about 9.00pm in darkness. The recent rain had soaked the bush and the overgrown part of the track I needed to go to get Black Hole and Hanky Panky meant I got soaked in the earlier part of the expedition. The light drizzle that dropped on and off during the evening also didn't help. All in all with a couple of DNFs, blotting my copy book, I managed to get a nice round 10 caches this evening including the targeted missing D/T.
Arriving a GZ I immediated broke out my head lamp and got under the structure, quickly seaching both ends without success. Deciding perhaps the tactile method of searching would be better than the optical method, I did a quick sweep of one end and immediately snagged the line. Retrieving the amphibian attached to the other end I tried to retrieve the log but it was stuck fast in the container. I even used the special tool I carry around for such eventualities but it wouldn't budge. So I took a photo of the cache for proof of life and am logging the find anyway.

On a trip to the NZ Mega 2018 with TaraTed, lots to see and do, this was a must as we both wanted to do the circuit, soon signed with a bunch of Naki-ites. Signed TTBB TFTC. Blenheim Bear
Trundled down from the 'Naki via the Wairarapa on a couple of days before the Mega WENZ. With the great weather for the meet we were able to visit many cache sites and enjoy the places we were taken to. So thank you to all the cache owners who made the trip so much more enjoyable. Logs will on most occasions have the initials TT (TaraTed) BB (Blenheim Bear) and some 2BB (2Bulbars) beside the date to save space during this busy period. Extra notes are added where required with individual caches.
Did this in conjunction with the Rata Street Walkabout during the Mega event. Things came to a head with this delightful one so a favourite for this cache and some on the way up this part of the circuit. Thank you.

I was happy to find this one when the other cacher looking said they couldn't see anything obvious they should know better than to expect obvious but I was happy to spot the wee devil.
#16241. Cacher density increased at this point was we joined up with the stream coming from the other end of the loop track. The cache had already been found, so we just had to get our names in the log book. TFTC.
We were heading up to the WENZ Weekend Walkabout Event and others were starting to come down again. Nanzie and I stopped to talk to a group just before the bridge, Sir Belac carried on and found the cache without a GPS but as he wasnt carrying a pen he rehid it and made me find it when I got there. Nice hide. Thanks Jodanz

Great to be in this group. I have to stop every now and then for a breather in case I too croak. A quick stop and I'm off again. A neat cache, thanks
A good cache for kids. We did not bring one of our own but found a kid to entertain anyway.
On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for.

I get a free flight a year on the credit card, so decided this year to use it to go to the mega, and meet mum here, leaving my little miss 2 at home with dad - eek first time flying by myself since she was born!!
With no time to plan anything, and a GPS that had decided to cark it, it was literally just me flying up, and then mum picking me up having planned & organised everything! I just brought myself and the clothes on my back!
Thanks to the COs for the hides, made for a fun day away

Day 3 -Wgtn Mega Sunday - Upper Hutt
Thanks TwigNZ for the lift. to Wao and Naenae. TWG04 did the honors here. Tagging is taking a little longer with the group growing larger. Cheers
The Seagnoid, Zara and I are on another epic caching adventure for the next two weeks, starting with the Wellington Mega, then East Cape, Taraunga, Waihi, Rotorua and back to Wellington. Its been an awesome journey, over 2500 klms later, visiting many amazing places. Thanks to all COs

The log was being coaxed out as we arrived. 15 people on the track, all 14 user names duly written down. And on, and up!
Heading up for another challenge cache, my third or fourth today - fourth. There's a mega event up there too, so its a busy wee track today. Teamed up with Taybeedragon and Etherlord, and met Hinemoana and SoniaNumbers. I had a hunt and did not spot the telltale, but we're a team now, and there are others to help out when the many eyes of the Seagnoid are taking a rest!

Day 3 of my Mega trip: Upper Hutt, the day after the Mega. Two weeks of travel with Taybeedragon, from Blenheim to the 2018 mega event, then on to my mum's eightieth birthday in Rotorua via the East Cape and Tauranga and the hole in the ground that is Waihi, Dropped the dragon off in Wellington while I continued on to Motueka for more family time before at last arriving home. We may have only found 230 caches over that 3000 km, but I qualified for 4 badge upgrades, hit the 10,000 cache mark, and even have a missing month ticked off! Throughout most of the trip we targeted special caches - earth caches, virtuals, wherigos, etc, althought there were a lot of traditionals too. On the cache maintenance side about eight caches were replaced, and many more logs were added to or replaced. Many thanks to everyone who made this an awesome trip!

Found on the way up to the "WENZ Weekend Walkabout" event that led to the nearby "The 1000 Day Challenge" cache.
The container was soon retrieved by the Seagnoid and the logbook signed.
Thanks for the caches along this route.

Paddle chick,Sir Belac and I as a team caching around Wellington on the last day of the Mega .Thanks for this cache
We had a bit of an ideas of what we should be looking for here but this little croaker really blended in so it wasn't spotted instantly even though it was just sitting waiting to be found. Had a wee natter with some others on the bridge before continuing upward and onward. TFTC # 13,154
Mega weekend, and daughter decided to join me for the day to have some fun around Wellington! We found some cool caches on the day, and a nice walk TFTC!
Our ever-expanding group arrived at the bridge where this confused character resides and quickly made the find. Luckily most of us have caching names that can easily be reduced to initials. Thanks.
As we got to here, we met up with the 'stampede' that was the main body of people heading up the track and the cache was already spri=ung from its hiding place. A hop and a skip and R.NZ was down near G Z for signing and replacing duties. T F T C Jodanz
The second phase of the day involved the Naenae loop track which would take us past an appealing Challenge cache final, as well as an event up in lofty positions. All targets were met, except the last cache on the trail (closest to the road!) so a good little excursion and good targets met.
We started our day by making a pilgrimage out to NZ's oldest existing cache placement, though we came out prior to the hordes to make a good start and ghet the most from our day. Much success here, all target caches made and all good. A nice loop walk around the Tana Umaga track too.
It's day 3 of the Mega weekend. Today has 3 events planned, a couple for walks on the agenda, some D/Ts I want for my second lap of the track and some other random targets. A decen tamount of finds and some great secnery sighted - thanks to the COs for that. Anoter good day in the region.
BThe big day(s) has/have arrived. It's MEGA weekend in Wellington region and the culmination of lots of hard work by the organising committee. Also, not to be forgotten, are the caches of the local, and not so local COs, which help the game to continue and enable the enjoyment of others.
The trip has been planned for a while now and the Blenheim contingent of Ricardinho.nz and myself are coming over early on Friday morning on the Bluebridge ferry (after an early morning (non-) 'event') before returning on same mode of transport on Monday lunchtime.
We didn't manage much caching on the Friday but made up for that with 3 good days after and over 100 finds for the weekend to boost my Wellington region finds past my Nelson region ones and even giving my previously prolific Auckland numbers a 'nudge'.
Over the weekend there was plenty of socialising, sharing of ideas, opinions and interesting conversations and a podium spot for the Geosaders quiz team. Allied up with some new caching friends and remet several other rarely seen friends from other areas of the country. A good weekend all around and even the weather played nicely with a sunny outlook each of the days, without it being too warm and uncomfortable. Plenty of events attended, pleasant walks experienced, a couple of bike rides along the Hutt River as well as a smattering of GROET caches for which we were GLAD.
Thanks to all of the cache owners for their hides and listings and looking forward to the next time I visit the area to continue the enjoyment.

This is a good story about NZ non-croaking frogs. So weird that they don't make noise. That's all that I think of when I think about frogs. Back home, going out on a summer night, next to some body of water, you would hear this immensely loud choir of croaks. They make such a racket!
And don't catch insects with the tongue? Such curiosity.
This wee froggy got us fooled for a while, she's a good at blending in. Got it only after double checking all the underneath corners twice.
We also found that the Seagnoid and co hadn't closed the frogbum properly so it was openly exposed!
I'll give this guy a favourite, I mean, the whole loop has creative and amazing caches but I'm jst not generous enough with my fav-points to give them out like that. So only this one so far gets it

Well what a great start to te weekend with a truck tipping over on the main motor way and having to detour through Masterton way instead and only just making the Fish and Chip event last night what a great turnout, we were also lucky to of gotten two traditionals while there, then it was time to head off and set up for the night at the Mega event site, but as we got there late there was no parking anywhere for us to park up our caravan and car so we socialized for a couple of hours until we could park up for the labour weekend. Then it was a few hours sleep and then time to get up and attend the Mega event and what a great crowd lining up outside the door at 9am grabbing there bags with lots of goodies coins etc, we purchased some great items from the store there while we waited for the waves to wairapa race to start. so did the wairapa first we teamed up with Rattle geocachers and we came second a great effect done by all. Thank you for placing a cache here nice cache well done. such a great place to visit I'm so glad there was an event up here today otherwise we would of never probably thought of coming here today. TFTC such a great day today for an amazing walk the views and bush line are wonderful

Day four. Part two. I decided to take two extra days off work for WENZ weekend. Bbear arrived last night and we are staying in Upper Hutt.
Our first mission is the oldest geocaches and event. Our next mission was an event Naenae and caches around. I love walking and caching.
Thanks for hiding and maintaining your geocache.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

I managed to walk in the opposite direction to the rest of this group event so was looking for these on my own. I struggled to find this one so sat down and had some lunch. I was rescued by a large group arriving (who had already found it). Thanks jodanz, enjoying this walk.
Great to be able to do this cache as part of the WENZ - Wellington Event New Zealand 2018 MEGA. As Gr33nslime, DangerSAM and I are all locals it was easy to plan this out being on our back door. Going to the first meet and greet I had no idea there would be so many cachers that I had bumped into before. After Gr33nslime and I meet our challenge yesterday getting eleven different cache types in one day, we decided to power out and attend another event up in the hills above Naenae. Though we had cached in the area before, and I had run the ECNZ road a few times, we had never taken the trail up from Naenae. Hence its was great to bust open some new cachers. DangerSAM did real well, wanting to walk most of the way himself, and the fact he went straight to sleep afterwards makes me think he enjoyed all the stairs (counting them at least).
Found with a gaggle of cachers on our way up to the event at the summit. Glad to see this one survived what looked like a very wet winter. Thanks for the cache.

Super cool hide, it was about this time I realised we were being followed up the hill by a super independent toddler - his energy was amazing and spurred me on to keep going up. TFTC.
# 1139 Pretty happy to have got this cache as part of the wider Mega weekend and in combination with the event up on the ridge top today. It really was a last minute decision to embark on this one, but really, as we were locals, what else were we to do today, the caches could all be gotten another day, but then event? Once in a lifetime thing! So up we ventured with DangerSAM either walking, whinging or sitting on mum or dads shoulders. We would lag behind the group and then catch up to quickly get our name added to the list! Worked pretty well for us.
Despite the easy difficulty rating, i noticed to took the group a little longer than you would expect to find this one. DangerSAM had a fun time playing with the container on the way back down when we met another gaggle on their way up. I hope he doesnt get any ideas about what you put inside frogs!

Found today with the help of TwigNZ, RitaRyan&JJ, TayBeeDragon and many others. TFTC
Day 3 of 4 of a long caching weekend in Wellington. Came for the Mega Event but got out into the surrounding countryside to enjoy a number of local caches. The problem is with so many to do and so little time a strategy was required which then involved driving past so many caches :S ....
....But not this one.
Arriving at the start of the loop I met up with some familiar and new faces, we were all heading up to a nearby event. Got on way down... by time arrived cache was in hand and nams being added.

Visiting Wellington for WENZ 2018 Mega Event. This was exactly the kind of track I enjoy. TFTC.
Onwards and upwards. This took a little bit of spotting. It was quite nicely camo'd but Mrs Watcache was on the ball and soon nabbed him.
Thanks for putting this here jodanz

After a very quick and fruitless look for the cache on the way up (following the hint) I decided to spend time on this one after attending the Event up on the ridge. Plenty of others around by the time we reached the bridge again and I was given some advice about the hide that helped in the find, but even so I struggled to see the cache, it was so well camo'd. I've never been lucky enough to see a native frog, though our garden abounds with two of the introduced species, with the little Whistling Frog serenading us after dark and the big green Southern Bell Frog croaks most of the time by day. The tale of how we came to have them in the garden is recounted in my 'Gribbit!' cache description. Thanks for the froggy indo supplied Jodanz and for another enjoyable themed cache.
Major meeting spot here. Must have been 15 or more cachers here as we arrived so was quite a trail heading up to the next cache.
Bridges are probably my third favourite thing, after tunnels and planes! So i quite enjoyed mucking around on this one. I found someone under the bridge who would repeatedly pick up my toy car for me when I threw it down there haha sucker! There was also a frog here, im pretty sure bits of paper arent supposed to be put up that part of the frog! TFTC
Yesterday was WENZ 2018 MEGA day, that mostly involved achieving eleven cache types on the day... Achieved!
Today is more of the “I’ve got a plan...” centred around the WENZ Weekend Walkabout up this hill and logging previously solved puzzles or achieved challenges.
This one was my find... great idea to tie them. That reduces cache creep. TFTC

We had been looking forward to this weekend for the past year, we first heard about it at the Geofest in Oamaru. We registered our will attend as soon as we could and then watched and watched as the numbers grew until it was at Mega status.
This morning we had already attended an event and found the oldest cache in New Zealand which was very awesome. We found a few other traditional caches around the area but we could not find too many as I had to get myself up a hill to get to another event.
I arrived at GZ and had a bit of a look, could not see what I was searching for then I spotted a wee something that lead to the cache. Had I read the hint before now (two days later) I know it would have been an instant find. I was enjoying this series of caches.
Thanks for placing this cache and of course thank you for the smilie

On this leg of our day it was Capperz, myself and mumandme tackling the track. All up it was surprisingly better formed than others had told us to expect. Quick finds of most caches, and as we ascended we caught up to other groups until there was finally over a dozen of us reaching the event at the top. A good day, fun walk, and some interesting hides. TFTC Jodanz, nice container.
Mega Sunday, and our goals were the Kevin Anderson oldie and the others in that area, then the event out the back of Naenae with the collection of a number of caches up those tracks. After that, just whatever takes our fancy really. Ended up being the coast road out at Wainuiomata, then some earthcaches and others around Petone before heading back to the event for the closing. Thanks all COs for placing and maintaining the caches.

on the way to the top
Found while either going to the Mega or attending the Mega or coming home from the Mega.
We left home mid day on Wednesday heading for the Mega and arrived at the Cossie club car park late Friday afternoon where we stayed all weekend with kind permission from the club. It was a great weekend meeting others and going out geocaching including a trek up into the hills above Nae Nae. I really enjoyed that trek as the caches were placed usually within 200 m from each other. It was great to get to the top of the ridge and return most of the way down via another track. Unfortunatly we didn't have time to stay and ride the river trails but we will be back
Many thanks to all the C.O.s who place caches around the country for us to find and enjoy this hobby/sport. with out people like You Caching wouldn't exist

Rusty and I have decided to walk up the very steep hill to an event at the top and if I don't have a heart attack in the mean time, we will sign in on the 1000 day challenge as well. Rebel98 had drifted of from us by jumping waka's, the thought of a steep 300m climb did nothing for him. Can't imagine why! Lol. Anyway we had company here at this cache when we arrived, no idea who was here but happy to bump into fellow cachers! Now to continue upwards... hard work.
A quick and easy find, as we walked up to the WENZ weekend walk about event. A cute container! Thanks
Found on a day spent driving up and down the Hutt Valley, finding a cache or two. Signed cache as Ms+Mr KR.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

On my way up the hill with gorby, joining up with some other cachers as we trek our way up to the Walkabout MEGA event
The cache was well hidden, and it was Bbear and nosynel who reached on in, and found the cache.
Thanks jodanz for the hide
