MM is back to work and as we are officially training for the Tongariro Crossing next summer I have to keep up the motivation of getting out for hikes/walks until hes back! Luckily the kids are on holiday to come with me. I needed a cache for a trad dot day today so we packed a lunch into the pack and we targeted this cache as a best case scenariobut had the option of the 2 caches below it in case we couldnt quite make it this early on in training;) Well the kids bounded up the stairs and I followed behind at a not bad of a pace after all and after 30mins we made it up to the top! Still a tough climb though! Took us 20mins to get back down so only 10mins of resting and fluffing around at the caches below doing maintenance for the CO (first one was lying out in the open near the track..second one was all good) on the way up. After signing the log we sat and had a hearty lunch and to be honest after the decent rest we had I reckon we could have easily carried on..but I dont want to break a promise to the kids..time to head back. FP for a fun excursion on a nice Autumn day. Streak day #311
I surprised everyone by leading the way and was even running at times. A first! And on one of the hardest walks Ive done. PE at school has been keeping me fit. My sis and I did so well that we got giant ice creams at the Midhurst Dairy after. TFTC
#14,761. A good hike in Rawhitiroa. Good views. The GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Quick find. The cache was a little damp, but the temporary logbook left by a previous finder remained ok to write on. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.*Thanks for the geocache placement, and for bringing us to this site, and **.T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e.**.M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.*
Another nice quick find. Unfortunately no time for a rest so onwards to the next cache. tftc
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit we are currently parked up at the NZMCA Park in Hawera decided wed go for a drive out to the Rotokare Scenic Reserve & pick up the DoC Kiwi Guardian we had decided that we would walk the Ridge Loop Track & see what we could find in the way of caches impressed with the birdlife, seeing Pukekos, Fantails, NI Robins, Tuis & Saddlebacks we have never seen Saddlebacks in the wild before & there were groups of them in two or three places around the track this cache was easily found, log-book completed & safely returned pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,418 for us!
Thanks for the cache! First time doing this track, lovely spot for a cache and a breather.
Needs new log, existing one too wet, couldn’t be read. Left a bit of card paper as a temporary one (all I had in my bag sorry!).

Another little geocaching trip north with woolwood9.
We couldn't resist many stops on the way!

Really appreciate the effort put into this cache Trail.
*Thank you for adding to our enjoyment!*
Arrived here after dark and pleased as if we had seen how many steps there were we probably wouldn't have walked it!
However we completed the loop walk although closer to 4 hours for us oldies as was: completely dark, many of the hides were very difficult to locate as not visited often and the track in places was very wet, muddy and slippery.
We let ourselves down by not taking some fresh logsheets with us as some were quite wet.
Overall though we had a great time, obviously saw no-one the entire time but woolwood9 saw a Kiwi - I missed it and only heard movement through the scrub.
Yes this one was wet and had no log inside - we left a bit of paper but it will turn to mush fairly quickly.

Heading off for a long weekend to New Plymouth with tmann421.
Had to stop and pick up some of the newer caches we didn't have on the way.
All logs signed tm/ww NZ
Thanks to the cache owners, without their efforts this game would not be possible.

A seat, a seat, I'd give anything for a seat (and that's the Phoenix half!). Thankfully a seat and magnificent views with a side serve of a cache. Tftc
We have been to Lake Rotokare before doing the around the lake track, but this time we decided to do the Ridge Walkway. Really great walk and nice views.
We were so busy listening to the birds that we sometimes forgot to check our GPS and walked past a few. But all the ones that we did stop at were pretty easy to find.
Returned this cache to its 'original' place according to the hint.
Thanks for the cache!

Took a while to regain my puff here, so the seat was most welcome - "Just admiring the view," I told my companion, who enjoys going up! And it was pretty spectacular... TFTC
Rick-a-mortis was here OZR3RZ

I made this a lot harder than it had to be. Missed it on my first pass so then over-thought it and kept widening the search area. Had all but given up when I had one final look where the hint suggested, and there it was.
A lovely afternoon for a walk around the perimeter with the family...and we grabbed some caches along the route. Wow...great views up here. We made it to the top. The younger members of the family had pretty much run up and were waiting for us lol. Tftc
Quite an intense climb to this point being quite humid after yesterdays rain. Pretty nice view from up here. Cache quickly located signed and returned
Found at 09:45.

We did the loop counter clockwise, and after an initial disappointment we were pleased to make a quick find here. Container and log were quite wet, so we dried them as best we could before signing.
Fantastic views of Ruapehu and Taranaki from here today.

We continued to chug our way up the hill, despite these steps being really hard on sore achilles. It was pretty hot here today too, but the views from up here are amazing!
Thanks for putting this here 2 Bulbars, and for giving us a reason to sit and rest for a while.

Decided to do the caches around the lake but then there was steps and more steps we think Bulbars is training us to climb Mt Egmont lovely seat when you get there TFTC
Stairs stairs and more stairs but a seat at GZ to allow to rest at appreciate the view. Was worth it.
Log very wet, paused for a while in the breeze and sun and it managed to dry enough to be written on. Could do with a replacement though.
Cheers.

I arrived in my mobile home in Hawera by lunchtime and seeing that it was a fine day with impending rain in a day or two I decided to go for a walm in the bush. At first it was going to be Lake Rotorangi but after consulting my GSAK maps Lake Rotokare was going to be it.
After I had parked up I was told that the gates were going to be locked at 5 pm as they were not working properly. Then a decision was made on whether I had enough time to do the ridge track, or if not, I would walk around the lake. I thought that I would have enough time to do the ridge track so off I went straight up from the carpark along the fenceline. After many stops to admire the scenery I arrived at the GZ and had a welcome sit down while signing the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

In an effort to get fit i convinced one of my friends to drag me up here and complete the ridge line walk. Took about 40 minutes, I'm so pleased I had someone with me to encourage me on. A bit of searching here before putting my hands on it. Views are amazing today
Early morning dog up to the highest point of Rotokare's predator proof fence after breakfast. Was rewarded be fantastic view of the reserve & Mt Taranaki in the distance.
Visiting my muggle friend in NP again and we had already decided we wanted to walk around the lake, so after a bit of research I wanted to walk the ridge line, so glad we did was a lovely walk up and around with great views. Thanks so much for the wee stops along the way, and for hiding the caches.
Gorgeous spot to take in Rotokare, taranaki and ruapehu (if the weather is kind to you!) . Quick rest n grab on a beautiful clear day. Tftc
Having a new walk to do we tried the ridge way and did it anti clock wise I love going up so this suited me fine. once at the fence line you get great views of the lake and the mountain fab day TFTC
Out for the local Get Outdoors Day event. Way out here and after climbing all those steps, this definitely qualifies. TFTC Gets a FP from me
What a fantastic walk. I recommend everyone to have a go. It was suggested that we go clockwise around the track and I think that coming down the final steps were better than going up. So good advice. Took us about 2.5 hours with lots of stops to take in the views.
Decided to make the most of a fine Winters Day. Good frost on farmlands and mist coming off the lake as the morning warmed up. A good climb up to this cache with superb views of a snowy Egmont/Taranaki. {FTF}. Thanks 2 Bulbars for enticing me here. A favourite for the well set out series.
