Not enough time to do a pry search but beautiful spot and interesting piece of history

Some time back, the Cockburn Crew discussed a desire to knock off the remaining caches at Helena and Aurora Ranges that had been published since we had each visited last. Time was ticking before the entire crew would no longer be available for such an escapade, and so this would only leave one option a summer time run. As luck would have it, it ended up being one of the hottest weekends on record in the state. Temperatures in the Perth Metro tipped above 45 degrees and it was even hotter across the Wheatbelt. While there is no records from the Ranges, it is safe to say it was even warmer there. Despite the anxiety associated with the heat, we pushed on with the mission of completing as much of the series as was feasible, noting our time constraints. The first night was to be at Marvel Loch, to enjoy a couple of cold ones at such a remote pub and pick up an unloved cache in Mount Palmer. We rolled in around 4.30pm and headed off to The Rock Zone cache at about 5.30pm. It was a magic view at sunset, but we had to head back after dark. Thankfully we made it to the pub in time for food and a couple of bevvies. Thank you TEAM LANDCRUISER for placing this cache.

Out and about again, got to Marvel Loch and set up camp. Had some spare time so decided to go out to Mt Palmer and grab the 3 caches out there. Enjoyed the sunset, then headed back to camp and event. Then hit the pub for dinner, dont mention the service.Found a variety of hides and in different areas which made for a nice day. Generally quick finds today. Thanks to all the COs for the hides I found.********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********Head over to Australian Capital Territory for Capital GeoBash MEGA - Canberras first ever Mega Event. When the Cockburn Crew first mentioned a second trip to the Aurora Ranges I knew it would be an adventure. We started the trek from Perth on Friday at the beginning of a heatwave. Northam would have been 44 degrees as we passed through towards our first night stop in Marvel Loch. Grabbed a few cache around Mount Palmer before calling it a night.Saturday was a big day! The plan of 300 cache was changed last minute when Sazpazza published 500 FTFs! So myself, Lachlan1.77, cravo10, Leg5, geotrakka and Barnzy12 made it a mission to find all 500 FTFs (signed off as CCGT to save log space). A huge effort made even harder with the 45 degrees temps! We spent the night camping in the ranges. The Sunday morning was spent finding some of the older caches before making tracks for Perth.

We finished our trawl of caches in the Great Southern Land a day earlier than expected. The 2nd night's accommodation was non refundable so we had a bonus day to go in search of some off the beaten track caches that we would not normally get to when zooming along the Great Eastern Highway. So here we are!Soaking up the history. TFTC

Have travelled with iluvtrekking up the WA coast to Darwin, down the Centre and in the Flinders. After spending some time in Peterborough, Minlaton, Moonta,Whyalla and Wudinna we headed across the Nullarbor, picking up caches along the way including Kambalda and the Goldfields. The extension of the Great Southern Land caches was on our 'to do' list on our return to WA. After completing that series by mid afternoon, we headed to Mount Palmer to grab the two caches. Thanks Team Landcruiser.

Road trip with Neva2old and sharing many laughs along the way. We spent our 1st night in Southern Cross where we joined forces with Beaker to continue our drive to Kalgoorlie to set up camp for an event. Then off to Queen Victoria Springs with a group of 4x4 adventurers to camp under the stars.
I love this part of WA - great to be back here again.

Its been almost six weeks since I left Adelaide on a solo camping trip to WA. I’ve been re-visiting old places, exploring new ones, catching up with relatives and former work colleagues, and finding some great caches along the way. I’m headed back east now and grabbing a few caches of interest as I pass.

This was another of those slightly ‘off the beaten track’ caches that caught my attention on this trip.

After a bit of a detour south along quite a good track, I arrived at the listed coordinates. I got quite a surprise at just how extensive this old town had been, as evidenced by the photographs on the information sign and the ruins of the hotel. Mount Palmer was obviously once quite a spot.

I liked the durability of the waypoint tag and it was then just a short distance to GZ and the cache, which was in good order.

After a bit of lunch and a coffee under the shade of the trees, it was off to the traditional caches near the minesite and at ‘High Rock’ before heading back to the highway and continuing my journey east.

Thanks TEAM LANDCRUISER for the cache.

Out and about with Pomgolian we were gold prospecting but the biting wind has sent us to our other hobby Geocaching. Great cache and what an unexpected site at the first stage.

Headed to this one after our little adventures at The rock.

Unfortunately despite having saved offline the cache listing for some reason I had no description for the cache.

So unfortunately didn't even have a look for this one.

Had a look at around the town and nearby settlement. It always amazes me that these once thriving towns (just like my mums birth place of Big bell) are now nothing more then a pile of old bricks.

It sure would of been a hustle and bustle town back in its time

Thanks for the adventure anyway Team Landcruiser

Day 1 of Barnzy and Cravo’s trip from Perth to Adelaide. Today we travelled from Perth to Noreseman via Kalgoorlie.

We left Perth just before 6am with the car fully packed for a full days caching the night before for a quick getaway. Refueling in Northam to keep the tank topped up before stopping at our first cache in Merredin, which was a nice little walk to stretch the legs that hadn’t been doing much for a couple of hours.

We continued on to Mount Palmer, which was the biggest detour of the day, some 60kms return from the highway and collected some serious unloved on both of the caches there which is surprising as it is a lovely spot. The mine claimed to be active, but I highly doubt that.

Tackled a few earth caches along the journey go Kalgoorlie, were nearly smart enough to become earth scientists with some of the knowledge we’ve picked up. Was nice to return to Sandleford Rock, which we visited some time ago to complete the traditionals there after stopping into Westonia.

Continuing along the highway we completed the last two of kyzabra’s traditionals on the way into Kalgoorlie, and stopped to grab the virtual cache desert oasis which had eluded us on several previous visits go Kal.

We dropped into Jinta29s event in Kalgoorlie and had a good chat about his trip North from Kal and our trip further east to Adelaide. We were joined shortly afterwards by greyroamer, someone who we’ve followed and who has followed us around the countryside on various journeys. It was great to put a face to the name in the logbooks.

We teamed up with Jinta to grab a couple of solved puzzles around town before he headed off and we completed our Anzac 101 series, which was most enjoyable, but as one clue was missing we couldn’t complete the final cache.

We left town and started our journey south to Norseman our first rest stop on our trip. Not far out of town we encountered some serious lightning and storms, which slowed us right down, and followed us all the way into Norseman.

We stopped into the local pub for dinner and a pint while the rain subsided a bit and had a crack at some of the local caches, which was a bit of a challenge in the rain. Managed 3 finds from 4 attempted, which wasn’t bad effort considering the rain. Will come back for the other two in the morning before we head off to Border Village tomorow.

Thanks to the local COs for a great day out.

Cruising around the area today,
the trail of caches took me from Marvel Loch,
out to what is left of Mount Palmer Smile
Which by the history of the place was one of the shortest lived townes ever !! [:o]

Amazing to see that one of the archways still stands,
and it is a wonderful treat to be able to 'walk into the pub' and imagine what was happening here in the late '30s Big Grin

A read of the info sign and a check of the cache notes seemed in order,
to figure out where the cache would be Razz
Except that I couldn't find any questions in the cache notes to answer ??
That left me scratching me head for a moment or two.
Then it hit me that I might have been doing to many LKA multi-caches lately,
and that sometimes a waypoint is just that Red Face

Which is was and with a new set of coords in the GPS,
I plodded off to find the cache Big Grin

TFTC and visit to this out of the way place [^]

PS: The 'chicken track' has been widened a bit and is no longer scratchy Smile
I had to use it today as the pink lake has rather a lot of water in it Red Face
