This took us a bit looking in all the wrong places and getting spiked by nasty plants. Finally found it and got it logged and returned. Great spot

Great getting out in the kaimais again. Cache quickly spotted & tried to dry it as best as we could. Log still signable.

Enjoyed our walk today, some beautiful waterfalls. Quick find but cache had water in it so emptied that out. Managed to sign the log. Fav point for a beautiful location & enjoyable walk. TFTC

Easy find, nice place it is. It had water inside, always mystifies me how the water gets in!!

Caught up today with Alpenmilch80 and we are trying to get as many kms in before easter so looking for all the nearby walks that we haven't done that fit our spare few hours. This loop fitted the bill nicely and it was a great afternoon for a stroll in the bush.

Initially got our bearings wrong and were looking on the wrong side of the track. Once we got that sorted it was a quick find, whilst dodging the bush lawyer.

Bit of bush bashing to find it

Good to get up here and get more of the caches in our personal challenge. Tftc

Finally come back to get this cache. We’ve been past here so many times over the last few years and finally spent some time getting the geo’s. Thanks.

Sent Invis13 into the bush to grab this one. Sad to see some degenerates have vandalised the DOC signs here so badly. Need to watch for the bush lawyer getting this one. A lot of it around where cache is living.

Took a bit to locate the correct spot but found the cache quick enough after that. Good feeling to get the the north south track, about 1/3rd through our planned trip so far. Off to the hut now.

15-Aug-21
Cache full of water but intact. Quick find on our way to the hut.

Tramping with a group, made this the rest spot on the way out and showed them what geocaching was about. The guy who found it has now gone home to take the kids out, yea. So thanks FTC

Chest height? Man I must be short. Lol! Not sure what story with the shorts hanging from the tree were. Cache had a bit of water in it. Tip it out and shook bag off as best we could. Not sure how long my mark will last but it may end up been a smudge. Lol. Tftc

Beautiful walk through the kaimai ranges on a Sunday afternoon. Almost gave up on this one after a good search, about to walk away and decided to give the area one last once over and somehow managed to spot it. Signed and returned. Thank you for the cache

A great walk from the Kaimai lookout through to here ,and then a memorable stop for a cup of tea and a hunt for the cache. Almost didn't locate the real cache bud did find another cache of tinned goods and food rations stashed nearby! SB20 was certainly on point as she just miraculously spotted the real one from the track just as we were ready to head back. Tftc.

The trek continues..I thought we were only doing the first few...how wrong I was..its only a short walk up here and we are at the top and there is another cache there... so on we go up nice an gradual great to see all the workings from days gone by...and before you know it we are there..
Oops so is the bush lawyer...the cache is in good condition..signed the log and return as found ..thanks NZFlossie for this great series of caches...it is always good to check out the treksthanks for bringing me here

There was much debate about whether to carry on up to this or not. Amazingly we continued. The track opened out and although still going up, we zeroed in quite quickly. I enjoyed this section. The Bush lawyer was still gamely guarding the cache, but macwatt soon tamed it! Do we continue on? This time it was a no. Probably a good choice as my legs were still tired from a previous tramp. Only took an hour back so that was a bonus. Thanks for the placement NZFlossy.

Out for a tramp to the Hurunui hut with the PackNBoots group. Glorious weather for this loop walk today , though there was still a bit of slippery mud around to add to the adventure. A great place for a cache here as we can do a search whilst the group is taking a break and not hold up the proceedings. Our hero headed pronto into the bush lawyer, but actually it wasn't even as hard as that. Ahh ha, right where the description said it would be. Tipped out some water, but the log was nicely bagged and still dry. TFTC

Found 2.15pm
Track had opened up to a fairly good track. No problems to find cache but just mind the prickles and cutty grass to claim this one. SLTFTC

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you don't plan for... We'd definitely discussed these caches but were yet to set anything in stone. That was until Davidson clan (who we all thought was in the Central Plateau) suddenly appeared - keen to get this underway. As if by magic we were now together at the top of the Kaimai's - parked just off SH29.

I've had my heart set on accessing the caches via this route for a long time now. There's a short but steep section about 40mins in and then it's all easy-pezee from there - except for the slippery roots, cutting grass, bush lawyer, gorse, and my favourite.... the [hook grass](http://www.terrain.net.nz/friends-of-te-henui-group/plants-grasses-sedges-rushes-nz-natives/hook-grass.html). Pretty much par for the course though when you're hiking through the Kaimai's.

This was our second stop and with such a good hint I was excited about getting straight into it. Suddenly I found myself narrowly avoiding a face full of bush lawyer so I had to back up and approaching from the other side... the cutting grass side.... O-ring is buggered so a little water has made it's way inside but things are all good now, names are on the log. Cheers Flossy, TFTC Smile

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, and Philip.Perry... Today’s expedition reeked of unplanned-ness... Someone stated that they were heading down (up) the North South track, and if we were interested in going... So here we are...

The North South track opened out into a flat, well defined pathway. Here, we were able to stretch our legs and walk at pace... We arrived at the Henderson Tramway junction - which was a good place to take a break. The cache was a couple of metres away, but not in the bush lawyer Philip.Perry... TFTC.

This was our fourth cache of the day . ApacheD and myself were having a weekend in the Kaimai ranges camping and caching of course. Not sure how long it took us to get here but was good to see the sign saying 30 min to Hurunui hut our camp site for the night. Apache went in to find this cache he reckons the cache is higher than chest height tree must of grown we replaced the log with a waterproof log sheet . Then carried onto Hurunui hut for the night.

Have been looking at these for a while now and since we had had the storm through thought that as last night was so calm would head up here in the fine weather, Yeah Right!. It was a case of walking in a constant Shower of rain with sometimes it being heavier, sometimes it being lighter, but still always there. In fact for a while there I thought that I was stream bashing as the steady flow of water down the track.
With all the rain, I was a bit unsure about the stream crossings, but they proved no problem but rather just a case of scoping out where you were going to place the next foot. Water did not appear that high
While the track is generally in very good condition, it was a case of being a bit careful will all the wet, exposed clay underfoot (saying that though I only ended up on my rse the once). The walk in took 1Hr 55min collecting all caches as I went. All logs were dry and caches in excellent condition. The walk out took 1Hr 45min so all in all not too bad.
Thanks for a most pleasant walk, thanks for the cache

Found this one on my return from the hut. I was hunting the wrong side of the track at first, but as there were limited options i quickly got to the right tree. I like these containers - they seem very water-tight. Even with the track being wet and boggy, i’m surprised that i couldn’t shave much off the times written on the signs. There were a few detours due to tree-falls but nothing major. I really enjoyed the hike - it was a bonus to not see a single person the whole way around. Thanks again for inspiring me to get out here, and thanks for the cache.

Great find while tramping the Henderson track the weather was
fine and warm track was very muddy and slippery in places.
Cache is in good order.
I had a pen today but no spare batteries for my GPS
hence only one find out of a possible four.
Agree with MKCB I to was a bit confused too but found it from track side.

I've been wanting to do the series of caches around Hurunui Hut for a while now, and they had just started to annoy me. Decided last minute to head up there this afternoon to try and turn them into smilies. Parked up at the top of the Kaimais and headed along the ridge track leaving about 12.45pm and headed straight for the hut as I would grab the ones I past on the way back. I was really impressed with the quality of the track, with big sections of it nice and flat. Got to the hut in 1 hour 40 mins, with the return trip taking a little longer. All up the trip took pretty much on 4 hours.

Again as with the last I started the search in the wrong spot, confused which track was which, though if I just used the GPS it would of put me right. Only trouble with the cache was some bush lawyer making access a little difficult. Cache in good order, thanks for the placement.

Well I have been lazy over winter and it was time for a bush walk. And this was great. I met a hunter on the way in and he had a tree cam and showed me the deer that had been there over the last 2 days. I got a new hunting spot and a cache tftc

The track was very muddy and slippery today . We both came down twice on our butts my daughter wanted to join me today. Got a huge fright getting the cache as there was a possum rite there so we gave him a feed of our muesli bar . From the carpark to this cache I got 13km return so a awesome days hike:)

1927 The Junction. Wasn't that a pub in Thames? No beer just water during a break on the way to the hut. Perfect spot for a rest and cache.

FTF :[D]: Well flossy I had not been on this track before and you gave me a good excuse. A little damp but most important was that the streams were not too high. It was too wet on the orchard but great for my first tramp for many months. I want to walk the North /South track one day so was a little look at the area.
Thanks heaps for this cache.
