Down in the area for a few days visiting family and enjoying the coastal cycleway. Bike ride was completed by 10am this morning, soo gave us the day to do a circuit around and up the mountain. We always enjoy historical sites to stop at. Clever wee hide here. SL. TFTC.
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) This requires me to get 25 badges 5 of which need to be gemstone badges. So each time I go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal
Out today grabbing some caches with the aim of getting enough caches to get the World Turtle souvenir and also getting some caches that will help with my main goal
Another nice and easy park and grab good for build up cache numbers quickly
Thanks for the cache

Chew Chong was a really significant man for Taranaki - good to read about him here. Had to use a trusty tool to retrieve the cache, but otherwise all good. TFTC
After attending the "mid winter" event in Hawera, we started making our way towards New Plymouth. It was great to be able to stop for this one before the heavy rain set in.
The GPS was a little unsettled here, probably because of the weather, but the clue made for a pretty straight forward find.
Thanks for putting this here hot rods 2005. It's an interesting little piece of history.

I thought this was a strange name for a cache until we got to GZ. Thanks for placing this cache here and in doing so we learnt more of the local history.
One half of team Tuolei is from mainland China and the other half is well, married to the other half, so history of the chinese people immigrating to New Zealand is of much interest to us, even if they are from Guangzhou (kidding).
This is a very interesting counterpoint to the experiences of Chinese people in Dunedin, Central Otago and Auckland. Would make a fascinating story for a documentary. Took the time to read the board and look at the pictures, really interesting.
The cache was easy to find, extracted the log which was absolutely chocker, so grabbed a waterproof log from the car and swapped it over - new log in place (if the CO wants the original log let me know). Thanks for the cache here, all good (even better now) and a great story of a very successful early Chinese immigrant.

Easy find with the family. This one must have blown under the fence but it now been replace. Tftc.
Heading up to Stratford to watch some of the Jr. Cachers play hockey in a secondary tournament and had a few caches planned along the way. Having read up about Chew Chong at the Tawhiti museum it was interesting to visit the site of the factory. Not much traffic passing today so could have a good look for the cache and it was soon found, however it seemed to hidden in quite a precarious location. Returned as found but perhaps the CO needs to check on this one? TFTC.
Wasn't sure where this was but found it over the fence and out of reach, went back to the car and got a long tool and slowly got it back to me, sign and placed back by hint. Thanks for the placement.
Today it was time to locate and sign off the caches in and around Eltham and Normanby.
Got dirty knees here.
Cheers for the cache.

Normally when I come down here it's to have a meeting at the Cheese factory... so cool to find out some of the history of the dairy industry here in Eltham.
Today I'm On my way from New Plymouth to Taumaranui, the long way via Wanganui picking up caches on the way! A group of us are meeting up in Taumaranui tomorrow to take a jetboat down the Wanganui river! Yippee! should be cool (in both senses of the word). But first had to do a couple of hours work in HAwera, which is why I was passing through Eltham

I have been up in New Plymouth helping out my Mum in law after she injured her shoulder and looking for caches on the way. This is an interesting cache and the history is well worth reading. if I remember rightly there is some further info about this gentleman at the Ogle's Museum at Tawhiti. Many thanks for bringing me to this site and enabling ,e to read more of the history of this man.
I saw a shadow behind the post. Watchdog! It will not be an easy quest! But wait ... mooo, mooo ... what a heck? Ah, alright, we are in the land of dairy, not wild hot dogs!
Nice easy find - once the sign is spotted lol. Tftc and thanks for a little spot of history!!!
This was more muggle safe than another in this area so did a quick park and grab. Very interesting. SL. TFTC.
Another summer visit to locate the unfound caches and turn them into smilies. Thanks for sharing the local history TFTC.
An interesting piece of history at GZ. Was going to be a quick grab on way to opanake for swim but stayed and read the story of Chew Chong. tFTC
Good to read up on more information about this enterprising businessman and the role he played in Taranaki. It's nice to find caches placed to bring notice of historical events. Thanks.
Glad to find this. For many years I owned the property where Chew Chongs factory was situated. TFTC
Just been to the hot rod nearby and noticed this cache was also in the neighborhood. Nipped down to ground zero and quickly spotted the cache container. Retrieved and logged after reading about the information board on the local history of the dairy factory.
All found in good order.
Cheers.

We were out and about on the new toy, and had headed down this way with the idea of picking up the Eltham caches then going over to the nearby lake and doing those as well. We parked on the opposite side of the road and trotted over to spend a couple of minutes reading the information board.
This was a fairly quick find for my wife as I had headed in the opposite direction to check out other hint items.
Thanks for the cache.

A fairly quick find, and we found the history on the information board very interesting to read. A favourite from us. TFTC
Took the long way home after the Mega. finding lots of caches in new areas. TFTC

Nice easy find for the kids. Found today while on our home educating adventures. We learnt a bit of history too. Tftc
Interesting little piece of history. A quick find, thanks for making us stop here
On my way to Whanganui to complete the third Mission Impossible: find and log a Mystery cache. Grabbed this one because it wasn't a smiley in a map full of smileys. And because I know where Chew Chong's family graves are in Te Henui cemetery in New Plymouth & to go with his shop in Tewhiti museum. TFTC
Gps had me going in the wrong direction. Managed to see it first then a quick grab just before the rain started. Tftc
Nice park and grab. Seen it before we even got out of the car. Re hid it a little better.
Out and about on a great mid winter morning, not a breath of wind and the sun is shining, now lets go geocaching. Passing through and stopped here to grab the cache. Took way longer than it should have as my GPSr had me looking about 13m away from where I found the cache. An interesting spot for sure - Thanks for the placement hot rods 2005.
{FTF} @ 6.15pm. I.searched in the dark for about half an hour and was starting to.get frustrated and close to giving up before finally getting my hands on it. Then when I looked inside I wasn't sure if it was the real cache as couldn't initially see the log book but then I saw it. So while description says dont go on private property, i kinda think it is on private property but that's my opinion. Thanks for the tricky cache and the first to find:)
