This was the second attempt at finding this cache. We were determined to rectify this dnf with a happy little smiley face, particularly after seeing it was found on the 3rd of this month. The family decided to do a bit of night caching this Firday night so with torches in hand, we headed over to the little reserve. After searching the area on our hands and knees in the dark (do not recommend!) And being poked and scratched by the sword grass, we were ready to give up, being defeated yet again. However as I turned, the torch beam lit up the cache, we had found it! Log book was signed and put safely back. TFTC!

Couldn't find today will come back

This is not the best place for a cache. You're exposed on all sides to houses and busy roads. The last time I was here, there was a large dead tree to hide behind, but today, no such luck. I poked around the Lomandra (getting stabbed constantly) and eventually came across the cache. The cache is in good health; the logbook is slightly damp but remains serviceable. The park is due to undergo renovations soon, so the cache may need to be relocated in the next few months. Im not a fan of searching through bushes, looking for a cache in an area thats so prominent for muggles. I really didnt pick a good time to look, it was so busy with school pick up timing. I committed to the search though and after doing a lap and finding nothing I checked a spot that I had checked before only to make the find. TFTC

Found it , I was about to give up on this one because I was getting too many cuts, from the nasty grass, then my helper today found what we were looking for. Tftc

19-Oct-23
TouchSword grass may refer to:Some species of grasses with blades that are sharp enough to cut human skin(this is because they contain many silica phytoliths, a hardening material in many plants. The sharp blades help to discourage herbivores from grazing (also protecting the grasses around it)),

Today, Tiz13 and I embarked on our weekly caching expedition, ready to transform caches into smiles. With the radiant sun illuminating our path, it was impossible to resist the invitation to go caching. Our destination of choice was the Langwarrin flora and fauna reserve, a place brimming with captivating history. This is one of the caches found today. This would be my third time here and I nearly died when I saw a whole heap of fresh mulch spread around the area. We poked and dug in several spots, my arms were getting itchy and I spat the dummy I kicked the mulch, jackpot I kicked the cache out. "Please Note:- Cache owners go to a lot of trouble to hide and maintain there caches "Sorry but not much trouble has gone into throwing a container under sword grass. Thanks Sparra0907 for the cache.

Mulch mulch mulch mulch MULCH...mULCh ...Rebel Acts and l turned up to search for this cache. Rebel Acts tried the excavation method while i grabbed the walking pole and tried the stabbing method. Muggle asked if we were searching for snakes No , we are searching for something much stranger was my reply. MULCH mulch mulch mulch grr mulch muLcH mulch ....Rebel Acts finally spat the dummy and was ready to leave. Let me give it one more stabbing, I said. Out of frustration, Rebel Acts kicked the ground and uncovered the cache..... high fives were made. Whatever works.

Out and about with Echidna44 on a cold, dull, wet day, we were targeting caches around Carrum Downs. Caches hidden in this type of vegetation are my least favorite type as I always end up with my hands cut to shreds. Finding this cache was hard work, and it took a long time to sniff it out. Fortunately Echidna44 came up with the goods, and we were very happy to be signing the log.

Out with a geo-buddy, we searched as others had before (on our hands & knees) Determination and grit made us stay at it, and we were rewarded

With the weather clearing up this afternoon Kristysadventures and I headed out to find stuff neither of us had found so we dropped one car off and freestyled around this area. The rain gladly held off and we kept going until it started getting dark.
A few minutes spent digging around and we found numerous bottles, a metal flexible fence post, a nerf gun and a pair of scissors amongst the bushes and scratching through the undergrowth. A few muggles arrived so we left it unfound.
Thanks Sparra0907 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

We spent a fair while searching through the thick spikey bushes and ended up doing our own mini CITO but could not find the cache

On the way home after an afternoon of caching, decided to stop and check out this last one with laurenechitty.

Were pretty adamant we knew where the cache was, but due to fading daylight, decided to abandon our project. Confident in saying the cache is probably still there.

Bring aeroguard, tropical strength. Well be back for this one.

This cache has been somewhat of a pain for me. Where driving past I always seemed to pick the wrong time, from kids birthday parties, to picnics right next to GZ I was continuously denied the opportunity to have a proper look for this one.
But today was different, shooting a message out to Brain I decided that we would go and turn this frown into a smile.
With a bit of rummaging around in a logical spot we were turning up unlucky, then I had a quick think and the cache was soon in hand. Thanks for the cache and the little adventure.

15-Aug-22
buhfuhguh invited me on an impromptu afternoon trip today to finally clean up Heysen To Find.
This was a cache that had been mentioned on several occasions by the giant, though I'd never actually tried it myself.
Immediately upon arrival I discovered why this had become such a challenge - a nearby playground, those annoying reedy bushes, a discarded dog poo bag in the proximity of gz, and a decent covering of mulch to top it off.

Fortunately for us, we were very lucky to not have anyone on the playground at 4 in the afternoon on a weekday which eliminated a big hurdle.
From there, it was simply a matter of digging around on hands and knees and trying our best not to get our eyes poked out.
Eventually, after only a few minutes in the end, buhfuhguh retrieved the prize from its partially buried state with all eyes in tact!
The logbook was signed and we were glad to convert this nemesis cache into a smiley!

Thanks to Sparra0907 for the hide

Found a spot perfect for a cache amongst the shrubs and reeds, but no cache. Found a frog however. Hopefully the cache is able to be found soon

15-Jan-22
I assume the cache is hidden among the reeds. I did find an area that would be a good place for a cache, but only found random rubbish.

12-Sep-21
In the area today. We checked on this cache and it is still there. It was not in the right place....but it is now. It is all back in it's original location. Good Luck. Cheers. The CO.

Out on a sunny and warm day for winter who couldn't resist a bit of geocaching today! Me! Lol. I was a little concerned when I got to this lovely park as it looked like there had been a recent dump of tan bark . After waiting a little for the muggles to get settled into their playground activities I started the search.
Not thinking I would be successful due to all the new mulch, I kept searching anyway. Soon I located the cache, looks like it has been recently renovated. Cache in great condition, log book signed and cache put back for next victim, oh, I mean cacher.
Thanks for the cache.

28-Jan-20
Out with geo kids 1,2 and 3 in the last remaining days of the holidays before school starts. We invited our muggle friend Michelle to join us. Luckily for us the weather was glorious with the sun shining high in the sky.

Nope, we were having none of it here today. Two spiders webs with spiders on them amongst the pointy and prickly bushes here. I can't believe I had come here previously on my own at night. I'm glad I didn't see or run into any then!!!

We did make a small effort to look for the cache but it's not a pleasant experience here with these bushes and knowing what's lurking about.

I must say though the spiders were very pretty yellow with striped bodies and had an interesting X weaved into the middle of their web. I still don't like them especially if I had walked into one. You'd never hear the end of it, neither would have the neighbourhood.

Thanks anyway Sparra0907

18-Jan-20
I'm not a big fan of searching in this type of grass plant landscaping as I've had a nasty experience involving my eye and the pointy bit of a leaf in the past.

But an even bigger worry was the proximity to the children's playground. Having Rebel Acts and Omegaman with me we searched for a bit and just left. Only DNF for the day.

09-Jan-20
I was out with geo kid 1 picking up a piece of second hand uniform from a lady in Sandhurst.
It was late but I couldn’t resist finding one more cache as we don’t come to this area very often.
As I approach the GZ a sense of dread comes over me. I didn’t have the energy to give this one a good search and it was dark and there were several spots it could be in and there were muggles about everywhere, either in their yards or walking their dogs or riding scooters on the road.
I checked a few areas briefly before turning around and going back to the car. My mind was elsewhere now, how I’m going to stop at 7-11 on the way home to pick up a hot chokky.
Thanks anyway Sparra0907, I shall return

Checked on this cache today. All good to go. All nice and dry and ready to be found.cheers.

Find #4617. Found @ 18:21 with LouiseAnn.

It has been an age since LouiseAnn and I have hit the trails together, but LouiseAnn loves a goal. I mentioned to her last weekend that I had a plan for a challenge, but couldn't share the details. I also mentioned that I needed a couple of finds in order for me to qualify for the challenge - so the plan was made to collect the two I needed, and some more that LouiseAnn would need (if the challenge gets approved).

This was the last find for the day, after traveling across from the Belarine via the ferry to Sorrento and then a short drive and walk try for a cache at Point Nepean, we had to abandon the walking trek to the Fort for reasons. Oh well, another time and better circumstances we'll try again for that goal.

This was the last on the plan for today, and another one that LouiseAnn would need to help qualify for the challenge that I hope to get published soon. We hunted around for a bit in peace, and then a neighbour came across to the play equipment while we secretively searched. After reading a previous log, I used a stick (kindly provided by LouiseAnn) and poked until I heard the unmistakable sound of a plastic cache container being prodded. Sure enough, cache in hand.

Now that we've done around the bay, it is time to drop LouiseAnn home and conclude the adventure for today.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache Sparra0907

I read the comment “prepare to dig” so I did my best to dig during the rain. Found it after 10mins. Container is in good condition. Thanks sparra0907 for placing this cache

01-Sep-19
Despite digging around at GZ with my walking pole in an empty park, just after a heavy rain , I just couldn’t find this cache. I hope I was in the right place. I’m not sure when I’ll be back this way, but will try again no doubt some time in the future.

After lots of scratching and digging we were overrun by muggles with dogs we will be back

Well all the logs before say it all. Be prepared to dig.
The cache was in pretty good condition, a little damp but the log was fine.

Smile **Found it**
The Welder actually mentioned this cache to me in the distant past, back when it had gone quite a long time without a find. His words intrigued me so I made an abortive approach when passing late at night maybe two years ago, but found the park in use even then!

Unsurprisingly, it was back on the agenda today. And we found it, but not especially efficiently. The coordinates seemed pretty much on the mark though, as that's pretty much where we (or the Welder really) identified the treasure after more rigorous probing.

I then took the opportunity to expound again on one of my favourite eminently tedious topics, namely that a distinction should probably be made between 'camouflage' and 'concealment' or similar, and that geocachers may overuse the former. Scintillating stuff, I assure you!

Thanks again Sparra0907!

The Bee Gees once famously asked, "How deep is your Love?".
Based on the evidence of 3 prior visits here, it seems my Love just wasn't deep enough...
And even today, on an unplanned visit with BendSinister, it wasn't looking good. However, I'm happy to say success was had.
Perhaps it was the volume of cursing while searching that proved the difference!! Lol.
Wink
Thanks for the challenge, sparra0907. Two years of searching here finally ended in satisfaction and smiles.

*29 Apr 2019, Found @4:28 pm, Find # 2826.*

Lucky number three and indeed it was. This was my third attempt. After searching precisely 34 minutes ago I returned after a phone call with a previous cacher. It would seem that I had been searching in the right location, but I just needed to be a little bit more thorough. This cache is definitely there and well buried probably due to the extra mulch that has now been placed there.

**Thanks to Sparra0907 for placing this cache.**

My second attempt here today and still no joy. I moved lots of mulch and found nothing

Hate these grasses when in flower. So prickly and they seem to like stabbing us. New mulch.

Despite a thorough search, no luck here AGAIN today.
Has been remulched again. Plus too many prickles for my liking.

Found with MazzyMay. High time I caught up on my logging...apologies for the generic logs but I just remember we had a lot of fun finding all of them. Thanks to all the cache owners that made this a Mega weekend for us.

Didn't seem to take too long and was the last one for the day. Time to go home and put the feet up after a mammoth weekend of caching. TFTC

27-Oct-18
Another nice sunny day caching with Gnome5580 and this was first off the rank. We parked pretty much right in front of GZ and got to work searching the many hiding places without too much luck, lots and lots of ants though! after a while I finally sat down and started looking through logs to get some ideas while gnome kept searching before I finally heard the magic words “found it!” She had just managed to spot something shiny while hunting and it was definitely not in the place we were expecting. I’ve found a few by this cacher before and they seem to often hide like this, not so much difficult but more just different... anyway I was happy to be able to add a number of nice little swaps for the next cacher, we signed the log and made sure to hide it exactly the way we found it. TFTC!

Find #4552

One of two traditional caches in the area that have given me a lot of trouble. I've had a few visits here but couldn't even bring myself to come back lately at the prospect of another failure. I did contact a pervious finder last week to see if I could get a bit of guidance and sure enough that made all the difference. I headed back at lunch time today with a much narrowed search target. All was nice and quiet near to GZ and after a short search I turned up the cache. I used the green pen which seemed to run out so I finished with the pencil provided in the cache. I thoughtfully packed the cache away again only to see the pencil lying on the ground so made a second retrieval so that all was ultimately back as I found it. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. Thanks for the cache (and the challenge) Sparra0907.

10-Jul-18
Looked around area and couldn't find it, can anyone confirm if this rock was in there as its all we could find? Not sure if someone dropped it while leaving or if someone has destroyed it, we have seen these 'vic rock' rocks in other caches

Out for an afternoon of caching with lochb, this was next. We had only been at GZ about a minute when a muggle family turned up to play on the playground. We kept looking for another minute or so but felt too conspicuous
Thanks anyway Sparra0907 - GJMMelb

I'd headed to Melbourne on the 5th May for a weekend stay to see Priscilla: Queen of the Desert CoolSmile
Instead there was a mammoth change in my plans when the Corolla suddenly needed new brakes Surprised [xx(] which led to needing new tyres Surprised[^] which led to needing a new wheel bearing Surprised[xx(]Sad
So a weekend turned into almost 3 full weeks and my HUGE thanks to the very patient and tolerant kmace who not only provided accommodation for myself but also for Rex [:X]Smile[:X]
Having your home invaded by a rabid geocacher Razz who gets irritated when they have no car to go and find caches because it is in the workshop [xx(]Wink and a pup who shreds his toys all over the house is not an easy ask for a day or two: let alone 20 odd days! SurprisedRed Face[:X]
Rex also loved the beaches and the seagulls so there were many walks on the beach, some in pouring rain and gusting winds but that's what being a dog owner is about [^]Wink
During this time some fantastic caches were found SmileCool and some adventures occurred Big Grin[^]CoolWink
My thanks to all of the COs for the fun Big Grin and the finds Smile[^]

Day 11 and today was a day that I had the car to travel, so there was 8 geocache attempts for a total of 7 Smile finds and 1 Sad DNF.
Considering the DNF was a Sparra0907 cache and I've cached in Swan Hill before, I didn't feel too bad about it! Razz

DNF! Sad My only DNF today Sad
