Well. A return to the scene of the last dnf and a long, long search and finally a find. Definitely a challenging cache find. Off to do some more on a Sunday morning.

13-Oct-24
We came back and spent a bit of time looking in the wrong area based on coords. But we found and signed today. I added a TB for the next finder.

23-Aug-24
I checked on this one after the 2 DNFs and am pleased to say its still there just under the leaf litter. Have another go. Happy hunting.

22-Aug-24
We completed the whereigo but couldn't find this. Spent a while searching where it should have been. Oh well

21-Aug-24
It's always disappointing to go through a whole whereigo and come up empty on the final. I think the hint was clear enough to come up with two possibilities. Had a hard search in both places and tried hard not to take apart sprinkler apparatus while looking. But there was nothing we could see there.

10-Jun-24
Completed tour, running out of time to find cache. I'll be back...

11-Aug-23
Had the use of a car for a few hours this afternoon so headed off for the Wherigo at the Strand. Not as hot there as over at Lavarack, and a nice stroll was enjoyed past previously visited sights and sites.
All good at the final though a strange bird didn’t seem happy I was near him/ her
Cheers for another good WG burgo78.

18-Jun-23
Our holiday has come to an end, but not before exploring some of what Townsville has to offer. Kploz and I caught the early boat over from Magnetic Island, and leaving our bags safely in a locker we were free to explore. What better way that to follow this Wherigo along the best part of Townsville.....The Strand.
Being a weekend and a warm sunny day it was bustling with activity - from yoga groups to family picnics, dad's teaching their kids how to ride a bike to adults showing off on them.....it really was a buzz.
We managed to collect the information we needed as we walked along and watched the people, but had a bit of trouble finding it at the pier and had to guess the answer as we just couldn't find it (it may have been the sun angle??). The walk took us most of the day to complete as we were in no rush, finding the final GZ late in the day before having to head to the airport and return to the chill of the Victorian winter.
Thank you burgo78 for a great Wherigo that filled our day.

18-Jun-23
TFTC - Returning from visiting Magnetic island for a quick holiday and exploring the area with HeliKelli. Completed the Wherigo to finalise the cache.

10-Jun-23
We had a nice walk/scoot along the strand. Made the find at FZ and put our name in the logbook. Thanks for the fun afternoon out TFTC

22-Aug-22

Day 14 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. The morning started with doing more of the Ross River Power Trail by bike/scooter with Albida33. I then headed for the Jezzine Barracks area, followed by some more caches at Pallarenda. Completed the wherigo, then cache easily found (thanks to the hint). TFTC.

Day 13 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today all about the caches around town.

The day after the main event of the trip had finished and the last day in town before we drive back to Canberra...but we taking 7 days so all is not lost. We headed out around town grabbing a few challenge caches, a few more high D/T caches and other caches that we drove past. We were joined by fitzy_1965 and minniek for part of the day, having a more relaxed approach to th day....but of course, all still good fun.

Many thanks again to the CO's or all caches...and hope you've enjoy reading all the logs...cut n past and individual ones.

#14173; Day thirteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. The plan for our final day in Townsville was to collect some challenge caches, along with some different D/T rated caches, along with solved puzzles and others on our "to do" list. Joined at various times by fitzy_65, minniek and smittengranny as we made our way around today. Collected 2 DNFs on an otherwise successful day. Unless indicated in the log, the cache was found in good order. Apologies for the largely generic logs. TFTC burgo78 Smile

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips and a wonderful Mega event. Managed to cache with loads of different people throughout the long weekend - such a fun way to cache! Have signed as SCG, X, Snag, Capital crunchers, NRC, Nibletricecakes, Minifigas, Minifig or some combination of the above! Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts planting and maintaining these caches.

17-Apr-22
Thoroughly enjoyed this. What a gorgeous area!! First time in Townsville, but hopefully not my last.

Thanks so much burgo78

--------------------------------------

I am so happy that I attended the Mega (and surrounding events), it was a welcomed change of scenery and I was able to embrace the fresh opportunities that awaited.

I spent time with people special to me and managed to score more cache finds than I had expected! Not having my vehicle or caching TOTTs was tricky, but I took the opportunity when it presented to utilise these from others when available.

This trip to Queensland enabled my 3rd attendance at the GPS adventure maze and attending my 13th Mega.

I had solved some of the puzzles and was helped with others, so being able to collect many of them whilst in the area was great.

Exploring Townsville and surrounds proved interesting, and I also spent plenty of time in the motel room (not planned for) - but I LOVED the air conditioning and the time to chill. Super lucky with the weather (the rain stayed away). Enjoyed lots of good food and conversations.

A fantastic time was had by all.

17-Apr-22
Tankengine, Youban and I were in town for the Mega and picked up a few caches today.

This cache: This was fun although very hot today. Took a little while to find once at GZ, but was glad when we did to make it all worthwhile. Tftc!!!

Found with Nibletricecakes, Albida33 and Smittengranny after some recalculations were done. We approached this from the wrong direction and it took longer to find than it should have. TFTC.

**This Cache:**

The Strand was just lovely, went up and down it a couple times, briefly on my first night when passing through town and then a couple times filling out the caches in the area!

Thankful for the hint at GZ, as the cache was very well covered by leaf litter and quite well hidden, lots of potential places it could have been!

Thanks burgo!

**Today:**

Day 13 of my road trip from Canberra - Townsville Mega Event! Big Grin
**Found with sebass19**

Another full day of caching, this time we focused around central Townsville itself, including the Strand, Castle Hill and Townsville South. We started the day off with the CITO at Rowes Bay, but only 30 minutes into the starting time the trees were already planted, so that was a shorter event than expected.

We cached into the darkness once more until we had done another "loop" of everything on the must-do list and ended up back near our accomodation!

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 10. Townsville Mega section Day 10. Mega Day 3. On the final day of the official mega period, the day started with Gliss!, Nibletricecakes, Smitten Granny & I headed over to the ROWES bay CITO where we managed to get one of the last plants and deploy it on the sand dune. Then it was off caching along the coastal stretch to the point with more World War 2 bunkers. This all took a bit longer than expected, but we eventually had a chance to do the walk around Jezzenine barracks before heading to Anderson Gardens for a tree climb and back to the mega site for the farewell event. Then there was a canoe trip and few more trees, A trip up Castle hill and a few puzzles before calling it a day.

We did the walk on Friday, but managed to miss the GZ, even today I failed to go round the correct side to make the find. Thankfully my caching buddies were a bit more explorative.

Thanks for the cache burgo78

After much looking and frustration as we had approached from the wrong direction, this cache was found as per log by Albida33, GLISS! and Nibletricecakes.

Here it is the end of the month and I still haven't finished logging all my finds from the Mega and I am now up in Cairns with plenty more finds since Townsville so please excuse the generic logs that I am about to write.

On 17th April I was out caching with Albida33, GLISS! and Nibletricecakes hunting down a variety of caches from trads, to ALs to Fishing poles to kayaks to mysteries and multis. This is one of those caches that we found . All caches were found in good order unless otherwise stated. They were signed with individual initials or as NAGS or SNAG. T

Thanks to all COs and the Committee for such wonderful caches that enticed us to travel from the ACT.

On a road trip from Busselton to Townsville, 7 weeks on the road and really appreciate being in one spot for the week.
Looking forward to putting a smiley here at GZ, a wonderful part of the country.
As part of Team Crocs, we headed out for a great morning's Adventure,
we headed out to complete a few local cahces.
All the caches were found in good order, signed as Team Crocs or TC while we are in CrocCountry, to save space on the log sheet, then on to the next one.
It's always a great way to see the local area through the eyes of a geocacher Smile
Thanks to the CO's for the geocache Smile

Up from Western Victoria for the Mega, today we decided we would walk The Strand with micaparamedic on this lovely sunny day. What a lovely precinct! After reaching the rockpool, we took a small break, then decided to climb the steps up to Kissing Point to explore the Jezzine Barracks. While on this walk, we were simultaneously running Ad Labs, this Wherigo, watching for multi waypoints and running the GPS for all other caches of course. It was a fabulous day out and we loved the tour and information about the area that geocaching provided us. TFTC and cartridge burgo78. It all ran flawlessly.

16-Apr-22
Enjoyed our walk along the Strand. The walk is a lot longer than you think!!!!
With the Wherigo completed we used the information provided to locate the cache in a nearby secluded area.
Thanks Burgo for the excuse to exercise.

15-Apr-22
During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

We managed to complete this Wherigo tour over a couple of days, and we found the evenings best to visit The Strand when the heat had died down, and there weren't too many muggles about. So whilst in the area this afternoon, we stopped off at this cache and made the find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. We decided to sign the geocache as DWEG1 (Davidwazza and e.gregory1) to save space in the logbook. Thanks burgo78 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

27,584. Found with minniek during our Grand Townsville Trek up to CacheQLD's Townsville Mega Event over Easter.

Day 8 of our Townsville Trek, and we have arrived in Townsville ! After settling in yesterday afternoon, we drove into town to catch up with some of minniek's relatives. Before meeting up with them we had time to do this Wherigo. If this is a sign of what's to come then we will really enjoy caching around Townsville. Once at GZ minniek made the quick find in the obvious location. Signed the log, replaced the cache, then continued along to the next cache on our list.

Thanks burgo78 !! The first of many of your caches completed.

Day 8 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.

Today we spent the morning with my niece, nephew, and great niece. Was so glad to see them after such a long time and to meet my little great niece for the first time. Although my mother was born here, I’ve never made it this far north before. We did a small amount of caches today ending with the Welcome event this evening before heading back to The Strand to find some amazing fish & chips for Easter Friday dinner.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned.

15-Apr-22
Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks burgo78 for the cache.

A shonky shop is a second hand shop that sells very cheap goods that are often third or even fourth hand. Most of the clothing has in fact been supplied by a pawnshop where poor people have sold their clothes.
One such shop is run by Soon Shine Sun in Clay Lane. Despite the lack of quality, various denizens of Cockbill Street both regularly patronize such shops and take pride in the clothes. It is known that they are too proud to buy from the pawnshop.

Day 0 officially, day 2 actually....

Enjoyed a nice stroll along The Strand ??

So excited to be attending my second MEGA and to fly to a destination for fun! And return to the tropics in an equally long time ????

Great to meet new faces and to spend caching time with some familiar cachers as well.Find #5576

A few days ahead to explore this beautiful hot city. So much caching on offer, and apologies for the generic log. ??????

And so it goes, just happy to pick up caches such as this one. Thanks to burgo78 for putting out and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment! ??

Day 3 of our Mega road trip (Mackay to Townsville). Arrived at our accommodation in North Ward mid afternoon. After a little snooze and in the ‘cool’ of the late afternoon we headed out for a walk along the Strand to stretch the legs. We started at the rockpool and thankfully I remembered there was an AdLab. We decided on fish & chips for tea at Stuart Headland and I decided we may as well continue on and finish the AdLab. Job done and I had a look around and noticed this one. I had downloaded the cartridge weeks ago so we set off back the way we came…with the plan of finding the container another time as it was now getting late. When GZ was finally revealed we were surprised, but pleased to discover it was probably less then 200m from where we are staying so we were happy to make the find before heading back. A lovely walk after the last three days of car travel. TFTC burgo78.

Last night, I was going to watch a movie but remembered that COVID-19= nothing good to watch. I ended up down the Strand and thought that I should do a Wherigo. You know. Challenges and stuff. So started at the listed coords and enjoyed the walk down the Strand. When reaching the end, I didn’t have my pen with me and I scooterd back to my car. Yes. I’m now an adrenaline junkie. Thanks for this one Burgo. I found the coords to be off a bit?
Maybe it’s my Wherigo? I’m not a big Wherigo fan and have been avoiding them for majority of my caching career. So I literally don’t know what I’m doing. I mean it could be a Wherigo in a botanical garden? Lucky. I have geosense.

18-Sep-21
Found it! Enjoyed our stroll along The Strand, learning about some zones and locations we didn’t know existed. TFTC

01-May-21
This was our main goal for this morning's walk along The Strand. What a beautiful area this is, with many different attractions catering to everybody, without getting too crowded! We enjoyed the highlights this Wherigo pointed out, as well as a few trads along the way.
When we hit a snag as one of the points was cut off from foot traffic, we contacted the CO who immediately came to our rescue, providing us with the remaining questions and the info for GZ.
We are leaving another FP not only for the vantage points shown but also for the amazing support we received.

28-Apr-21
A more adventurous cache than I anticipated due to unforeseen conditions.
It was a great and windy late evening walk along the Strand with a stop for some food in between. Continuing on, I soon hit a roadblock though. One of the main attractions of the Strand is fenced off until the beginning of June for general maintenance! Fortunately, the barricades had just been erected and the work not commenced yet, so I was able to sneak around in order to get to the stage. From there it was easy again with a bit of a search in the dark at GZ but the hint helped out. Thanks for this tour. I am starting to enjoy Wherigos more and more. A Fav point for the nice walk.

28-Mar-21
KerriMG and I started this walk on Wednesday when we arrived in town and are finishing it up on Sunday our last day. We did keep saying we should hire a scooter but we never did (probably why every day in TSV I got over 20,000 steps). It was a lovely walk along here and the answers found easy enough. And it great to see so many people enjoying the area. At GZ it was a quick easy find. TFTC burgo78

09-Jan-21
With overseas travel currently out of the question and state border closures still a lurking as possibilities, my family and some close friends decided that travelling from Brisbane to North Queensland was our best option for a Christmas/New Year escape.

After a few nights in Clifton Beach the tribe had moved on to Port Douglas and today we were starting the run south towards home, with another visit to Townsville to break up the trip. Arriving mid afternoon, this gave me a few hours before dinner to mop up some caches I had missed out on earlier in the trip.

The first half of the tour I had completed when I was in town a week and a bit ago. Today I had enough time to visit the rest of the locations and gather the final coordinates for GZ.

The mozzies around here must be wasp/mosquito hybrids. As soon as I arrived to search for the cache a huge swarm swooped in and began buzzing madly around me like I had just taken a cricket bat to a wasp nest. I was frantically waving one arm around trying to drive them off while searching for the cache with the other. To my relief the cache was found quickly and I could beat a very hasty retreat after stamping my name in the logbook. TFTC

As we love to do Whereigos we choosed this one as our cache for the day. Even the rain could stop us to get from one station to the next one, starring at all the festivity taking place on Australia Day.

After getting the Unlock-Code we were searching at Ground Zero for approximately half an hour but we couldn't locate the cache.

Anyway thanks for the interesting walk along trhe Strand and regards from Switzerland.

A WIG is again our guide for a little walk on day 6 of our current travel. We packed the swimming suit and towels to chill at one of the mentioned pool. Unfortunately both are closed atm and also we were to slow to have time for water fun.
We like beach fronts like this and discovered not only caches along the way. We had yummy burgers, lost a hat in the strong breeze, which luckily floated back ashore, did some exercise and had a nice chat with a local. And we saw green turtles swimming in the sea .
It was a lovely afternoon and our efforts were rewarded with some great caches. FP in

03-Nov-19
In the early hours of Saturday, the 2nd of November 2019 I got one of those phone calls from your mum that you don’t ever want to get. My brother had attempted suicide and was in the ICU of the Townsville hospital, and he wasn’t expected to survive. By the 3rd of November I was joining his wife and kids, my mum, my dad and my sister around my brother’s bedside. Through the following week I would use my geocaching to explore Townsville, to clear my head and to be just by myself to cry.

Today I arrived in the afternoon and went straight to the hospital to see my brother. I found I couldn’t spend too much time in there, it was just too confronting. I broke out in a cold sweat and so hugged my family and went to get Maccas and to find my AirBnB, to unpack. I headed up Castle Hill first to grab a couple of caches that had caught my eye on the plane trip over and then to The Strand to give a wherigo a go.

After grabbing some caches on Castle Hill, I headed over to the Strand, which was near where my parents were staying. Loved the walk along here. I can see why my brother loved this town. Cache found safe and well after a vigorous walk before dinner. TFTC!

Found with LJB54. Nice afternoon walk. Plenty to see and plenty of muggles enjoying the afternoon as we searched for answers. Really enjoyed this adventure and put a new spin to common places we have often walked by and not paid particular attention to.

Thanks burgo78 for the effort on this one and for the especially tricky final cache location

Caching in and around Townsville and surrounds we picked up a few caches and this was one of them.

We visited all of the waypoints collecting the answers to complete this werigo. Cache and contents were in good condition and adding to our favourites.

Thanks burgo78 for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

We came all the way from Germany to pick up our son, who spent the last six month in the Noosa area as an exchange student, and discover this beautiful country. Obviously, a beautiful Country also has some very cool geocaches....

Visiting Townsville, of course the Strand is the first thing to do! Do you know that „Strand“ is the german wird for „Beach“?

Anyway, nice stroll, the kids enjoyed the waterpark, we enjoyed Juliette’s ice cream and I even had the luck to ftf the „Hanging our at the Strand“ GC. Plus all the art being installed for the exhib!

The app crashed at the last stage, but fortunately, the auto save was working and I could sign the logbook.

BTW, at the Pier Stage the end of the sentence is missing....

Thanks for the Cache from Mojolucani

Not a bad way to spend a bit of time wandering the strand. Few drops here and there of rain. Had to laugh at the detour along the pier to catch a glimpse of a famous landmark. Found the hide and signed the log. Thanks for another wherigo cache.

Really enjoyed this one. I actually started out last night but got hungry, so I stopped for a late dinner. Today I set out around lunchtime but lunch and a swim at the rockpools were my reward for finishing this one. Luckily for me not only did I make it all the way to GZ, but I also made the find.

Fave point for the walk and teaching me a thing or two.

No butterfies were harmed at GZ but probably can't say the same for the ants.

TFTC. This was our last day in Townsville and we were keen to complete the WLKING tour of the Strand that crashed on us mid week. Well if truth be know , I d]should have continually saved the data at each step,of the way. Lesson Learnt. Before beginning the Wherigo we had the oppoertunity to do this Earthcahe and a couple of traditionals. A lovely day to be walking along The Strand.
As we approached the final cache location we heard a yell that we were getting warm. When we were signing the cache it turns out to have been Oscarfish86.

Notice to me, do not a walk on sunday morning, when it is motherday ...
It was a very nice walk and very interesting. Most of the time I have to guess as I didn't know the answer.

Enjoyed the opportunity to do this Wherigo while visiting relatives in Townsville. Grew up here in the 80's and left in mid-90's. Lots of changes but love the Strand improvements. Cache found and replaced just in time before tropical downpour. Very wet walk back to the car but the rain cooled everything down after being so hot and sticky. Tftc. Fave point.

Over in Brisbane for work I decided to grab a cache or too while here. An overnight ever in Townsville was on the radar as well so I decided an evening walk was needed.

A really stable and well put the Hetherington wherigo. As I have a couple myself, I know how much work is involved putting them together.

A fav point from me and an easy find at the end.

burgo78, Kyzabra found your cache The Strand Walking Tour, the cache is in good shape and we replaced it as found. Thanks for placing this and bringing us to this spot!

All the best from WA. We’d love to see you at WA GOES BIG 2018 in Dunsborough on the weekend of 13th/14th October.

Together with Soukousa on our cruise along the west coast, we strolled along the shore looking for plastic boxes. This one gave us a nice chance to walk a bit. A great sequence! TFTC!

JACS Team was planning a day to snavel up a few geocache that she hadn't hunted for yet and kindly let me tag along! It was an incredible fun-filled day considering I was suffering from cache-blindness and JACS had an injured foot! (feel well soon!). In the end, we enjoyed our time and are off to do it again tomorrow!

This is my first Wherigo and what an incredible one! This was a pleasant walk and I'm glad to have done it. TFTC!

Fantastic walk today, my foot does not agree though as it still pained from yesterday. Enjoyed a yummy lunch at the other end before heading back and getting rained on! Very much deserving a favourite point here!

Visiting Townsville for a few days. The weather has not been great so we have been hibernating completing chores and helping friends with their 12v systems.

Today though it was crunch time we need to visit The Strand. Rain, drizzle, grey clouds and even lightning did not deter us this afternoon.

Managed to find 7 caches whilst completing this cache. Boy we had no idea we were going to have to walk this far. Mrs Felix waited at the end whilst poor Mr Felix had to return to collect the car. Im sure its much prettier on a warm sunny day. lol.

We were staying in Townsville for a couple of days and with no hope of finding all the caches here we decided to target multi's for the Pirate souvenir game as well as a few puzzles we have solved and the wherigo's as we really enjoy them.

It turns out that we should have looked for this one yesterday as lunchtime on a Saturday there were muggles everywhere not that it hindered the cartridge in anyway but we had to work passed a couple of trads as we knew we had no hope of looking. As far as the whereigo went we really enjoyed it, Everything worked as it should have and we saw a lot of very interesting sites along the way. We completed the walk and then thought "Oh Bugger" the car is at the other end so with a bit more walking to gz we were rewarded with a nice easy find right where the GPSr was pointing and our name has been added to the log.

Thanks again burgo78 for a fun cache, and a sensible hide, a favourite point from us.
