Neither the gps nor the hint were much use so just used caching sense and it was in the obvious spot. TFTC
The mozzies got the better of us but we did do a bit of a hunt before we left
Left this cache a bit too late at night after enjoying dinner at the Currach Irish pub and sunset....but we did it with torches in hand. Kids a bit spooked but happy to get the cache in hand. Cache - Dry and all in order. T.F.T.F
Our trip - 3 day trip planned a couple months out for birthday celebrations. We flew in with Barrier air, rented a car to help explore the island.... 3 days after Cyclone Gabrielle we were coming if they allowed us on the island to help clean up or holiday. Road access and tracks we used were open and clear - only access to Tryphena whalf - CLOSED. We did help some locals cleaning up seaweed at Okupu bay whilst tide was out.

When we first arrived there were workmen activly preparing for the next inhabitant. We came back later when things had been completed. Always find old Cemetery caches very interesting and this was no exception. The find was quite straightforward after following the hint. Thanks for the cache.

Probably one of the best views from a cemetery I’ve seen. Glad this geocache took us to the pioneer cemetery area. Thanks
Had to find this one. Love old cemeteries, they have so much history. This one seemed in an odd place but we found it quite easily. It is very dry waiting for another visitor, tftc.
Tricky to find but got there in the end with the great cryptic clue about resting and laying.
As we approached the cemetery we saw a family tidying up their father’s gravesite. We carried on through the cemetery and up the path towards Gz. Cache was quickly located and we stopped to read some of the local history before returning to the car.
nice walk on the beach the strolled up to the cemetery. strong family history here. nice peaceful spot. tftc
What an awesome spot. Would never have walked up to the pioneers cemetery without the cache. Thank you for sharing!
Went in the evening and there were too many spiders to dig around. Looked for around 10mins before giving up
Interesting place. Coordinates about 20 metres out but once expanded search found the hint item quite easily. Thought cache was going to be soggy but it was in great condition. SL (as PBB) even though there was plenty of room. Well done Phil! TFTV
Took a while to find this one. A interesting location - I always like reading gravestones. TFTC
Visiting my motherland from Oz again this January. It’s always so good to be back in NZ....NZ is a place I come to reconnect with my identity and memories, see my parents & sister, have microadventures and eat copious quantities of Frujus, anything feijoa flavoured, Puhoi Valley Columbian Iced Coffee, Poppa Jacks and Mallowpuffs. Ohhhh how I miss those things in Australia!!
Mum and Dad are spending a couple of months this summer volunteering as DOC camp wardens at Harataonga Bay on GBI, so I jumped at the chance to come over and visit, since it may be my one and only chance.
My desire to not get caught in man-sized spiderwebs overcame my desire to find a cache today! But all was not lost. There is no way I would have stopped here if it weren’t for caching and we thoroughly enjoyed the wander through the interesting gravestones, as well as the hidden old section up the back. Someone should really maintain the old section a little better as it is about to disappear under the webs. The new section was stunning and what a view!

Last day of our short and most enjoyable stay on Great Barrier Island. It seems that this one can take a while to find, and I did have to widen my search until I came across the likely hiding place. Thanks Manana4us for bringing us to this "secret place", it is very attractive and reminded us of the long history here on the island. A good sized container too. Another favourite added.
Very nice and peaceful cemetery, we would never have found without the cache being placed there. TFTC Fav point got the spot
Over here for weekend, first find, had to look out side the square for this one, nearly ready to give up. tftc
A lovely spot to visit, thanks for bringing us here. After a bit of a search mumandme had the cache in hand. TFTC
Would not have found this place had it not been for the cache. Took longer than it should. tftc
We took our time here and read just about all the headstones before even getting to the Pioneer section.
Wow, how nice is it here?
Mind you there seems to be 90% of the Islands mosquito population in this lovely location.
The Blackwell’s were certainly a huge family.

We had previously driven past and there were a few muggles around so we decided to keep going. On the way back all was clear so in we went. The cache was found not quite where we expected.
So many stories, how come so young? Flu, drowning.....? While some lived to a great old age. Thanks for bringing us here.
Over here on the Barrrier for a wedding so was looking foward to grab a few geocaches while I was here. Now that the wedding is over and we have a few hours before we needed to catch our plane home we managed a bit of a tiki tour around the Southern half of the island. The few days we have spent here have been magical and I'm looking forward to a return visit. Thanks for placing this cache and showing me around this amazing island.
Took me a minute or two to work out how to access this cache but after reading the discription I soon worked it out. A really cool spot, thanks for showing me. Grabbed the TB before moving on.

Lovely place to visit on our first day on Great Barrier. What a beautiful bay.
Third cache of the day on GBI having arrived today. GPSr had me wandering in the pungas but after spending a bit of time there witha thorough search I widened my search area and went completely in the opposite direction and very quickly the cache was found - TNLNSL and left as found.
Thanks for the placement at this interesting and historical spot Manana4us.

Visited the Barrier for the first time ever early last year, to catch up on the family ( Claris ) history, but that was before I got hooked on this crazy lark 11 months ago.
I had thought of a return trip to look for the caches, but because there were only 8, it hardly seemed worthwhile. A little while ago though, quite a few new caches were placed and that piqued my interest somewhat. A check a couple of weeks ago indicated that most were still available for FTFs, so a plan was formulated for a two day trip to try and turn the island as yellow as possible. I just hoped the weather would co-operate and amazingly, it did.
After landing on the early flight in and picking up the rental car, I headed northwards up to Windy Canyon and the Mt Hobson track. After a 4 hour trek up and back and successfully finding all those caches, I carried on north to do the rest up there and then headed back down here to Tryphena for the second day's effort.
Third up on Friday 13th, was this cache, in a lovely peaceful, extremely well maintained location. Got a heck of a fright though at GZ, when a pair of Kaka came flying very low through the bush, squawking very loudly. Awesome to see these birds which we don't see that often on the mainland up north.
Collected the geocoin to take on further travels. TFTC

Over on Great Barrier Island for a long weekend of caching and hiking with Funkymunkyzone, mikemiss and Gorby. Last day today, so time to find the last few hides and place a few more caches as well. It was raining when we attempted this one but the bush provided some cover. We applied some logic here and I soon came up with a quick find. Apparently, I had family, of the great great variety, over here too. A drowning incident caused them to sell up and return to the mainland. Cheers for the cache placement!
Nice spot here, and not far from our accomodation on the island. Found in between showers with Gorby, Lostcourse and Mike-miss. TFTC
A quick find here in the pouring rain this morning alongside FMZ, gorby and Lostcourse. Great views of the bay on our way back to the car. We signed the log and i dropped a geocoin for the next finders - TFTC!
Just stayed our 2nd night at Manuka Lodge, for breakfast I cooked up a nice omelette with ham and mozzarella cheese for 5 people and the coffee. It seemed to go down well with them all. So now, FMZ Lostcourse mike-miss and I are off on full tummies. This cache was the first to do for the morning and after walking thru the very wet grass we get to GZ and only a minute later had the cache in hand. Then a walk back down to the car and we're off.
Thanks for the awesome hide. This was Dimitri's first find and he was a wee bit excited. It got tricky when we lost cell phone coverage but the clue was our saviour.
First to find! My GPS readings were a bit off on my first visit, but a return to the site today was much better with a great result. Loved the beautiful carving for FTF gift. Thanks. TFTC.
