Stayed near Stratford last night and drove along the Forgotten World Highway to Whangammona today, picking up six caches along the way. This was the first of them. Drizzling all morning but fortunately mostly on the light side. Took a rather circuitous (walking) route to get to the actual cache, but once there it was a very quick find. Interesting history associated with this spot. #8018. TFTC.

My partner and I had a rare day off together and with the kids all at school we thought why not have a road trip and get lunch in the Republic of Whangamomona. Over some yummy wedges and nachos the conversation turned to how i hadn't been geocaching in ages. Before i knew it i had loaded the app, found a pen in my handbag and we headed off down the road for his first find. Safe to say he is now hooked and we ended up with 8 finds and 1 DNF for the day. We really enjoyed learning the history and taking in the views. Thank you for placing these caches and showing us our country. This was find 6/9 today. Had a moment of confusion after the roadworks but the cache was quickly in hand. Also found a huge black spider

This cache grab is probably a bit safer now with the roadworks - easy access and safe off road parking up to the main cemetery entrance. Cache in good condition, dry logbook. Really interesting read on the history of historic Mori roads in the area. One of 4 I grabbed after work today, two of which were in the dark , earning me the June Solstice souvenir , and finding my first virtual cache. A nice way to keep busy after farwelling my youngest son and caching partner last night to Canada on his big OE Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki, Phronimos#111 (my old phone number )

Loving our trip in the good old NZ back country and the history lessons. What a landscape! Easy find and pleased to report that the cache is all good. Along with the cache we discovered another cacher - Gibbon. He was nearby and guessed what we were up to and so came over and introduced himself. Quite rare to meet other cachers on the job. TFTC

Was keen to pick up my missing two TMGT caches for this region today. We'd passed 'nearby' at xmas 2020 but this was too far off route for our driver so left until today. With plenty of time on hand today (Tui ad, Yeah Right) I headed down and parked real close. Interesting information here and around and a nice place. T F T C Phronimos, codeword noted.

Having moved down from Auckland at the start of the week, and settling into a new work routine and having a new team at work it's been quite a hectic week. So what better way to kick back and relax than embark on a 730km, 16 hour marathon Geocaching expedition to the Taranaki region. It was more about quality than quantity and I had a number of statty targets; a couple more TMGT tour caches, my final missing S39 degree minutes for the Challenge cache, a few Virtual caches, including the new fmz Monopoly one, couple of Earthcaches, and a couple more DT combos, and anything else that I passed, but without adding too much diversion onto my trip. 36 caches was the total and a pleasing selection of treats and more than doubled my current Taranaki finds total of 24 finds total. Thanks so much to all the COs for their caches, imagination and hard work and maintenance, much appreciated. When I eventually made it 'home' at 1045 PM I was ready for bed, and dashed my (foolish) plans of heading to Ohakune/National Park etc today, that will keep.

I enjoyed reading the information for this tour cache. Thanks for highlighting this historical trail.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, Phronimos

#9601. The last day of my four day trip to Taranaki. Making my way back to Wellington today. After three fine days the weather changed overnight and now its raining, windy and rather chilly. Interesting bit of history. I was not aware of this pathway. While it makes sense Maori moved around on foot locally to favoured places I would have thought more would have travelled by canoe along the coast rather than walking such prodigious distances. The cache was an instant find in the light rain. Signed the log and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Phronimos for hiding the cache here.

A few days away in New Plymouth gave us a chance to locate some more TMGT caches. Todays mission was a drive to collect some more. A nice interesting stop here. Quick find. SL. TFTC.

01-Feb-21
Fascinating story about this old trail. I do like a well-written TMGT cache page. TFTC Phronimos, all good here.

Day 4 of a 10 day road trip round the bottom half of the North Island, and today it was New Plymouth to Owhango.
We weren’t going to go the Forgotten World Highway until it was mentioned to us by our hosts in N.P, so we did some research and thought that would be the way to go.
Pretty cool drive, would be frustrating in parts if you were stuck behind slow traffic, but we did not have that problem with a few regular cache stops. Whangamomona is a real treat of a town - great pub, and you get the feeling there is a great community spirit out here.
Really enjoyed it, great weather, and no problems with any caches, apart from adding some log paper. Thanks all COs.

On a TMGT road trip from Whanganui to New Plymouth so it was a given I was going to side trip down to this one. Quiet at the moment. Interesting history, love how locals can tell that through caches. Thanks for this cache.

We are on a ten day road trip to Taranaki, The Forgotten Highway, Taumaranui, Ohakune and back home to Palmy. Along the way will be sightseeing, short mountain walks, museum visits, a rail cart journey and, of course, geocaching. Day 4 - we’re now based in Stratford for four days and will make trips out from here.

This was our last day in Stratford for tomorrow we head along the Forgotten World Highway. We were going to leave this one until on our way tomorrow, but had time to pop out to it today. It was hard, standing here then in this very open, exposed and windy spot with traffic travelling past, to imagine a track once going through here with forest towering all about. It is good at the very least that the memory of it is still here. The cache was a quick and straightforward find. TFTC

22-Oct-20
Pre Labour weekend trip away, seen as I'm working through Labour Weekend, I decided that from Wellington I would head towards Whanganui for the night, then home via New Plymouth to collect some TMGT and Jasmer caches.

A little drizzle but I was able to run across, sign and then wander down to the information boards to read further without getting wet.

TFTC Phronimos, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 8 find(s) of 15 today, making this find #2292

19-Oct-20
Thanks interesting info yet again. And the reason why they had to travel this way was it was safer to keep away from the Taranaki tribes.
Found with Kiscardi.

19-Oct-20
On a tour around the North Island picking up the TMGT caches with NZ Bozzy , also we found many older caches and filled some gaps in our DT grids.

Celebrating turning 60 today so after a awesome breakfast we heading out to find the local TMTG caches and see some more of the North Island. Perfect !!
TFTC and an opportunity to visit places I would not stop at otherwise.

08-Oct-20
Cute lil spot with great view of the mountain!

The log was full.

07-Oct-20
Sadly we are not doing the forgotten highway this trip. I am on a North Island Figure of Eight tour. For the first 4 days I spend time in the Bay of Plenty with my husband JDScout in Rotorua. Now I am on part two of the eight loop near the end of our loop, driving from New Plymouth to Whanganui. This part is being done with my good friends Ethness and Jude_E.
Thanks Phronimos for creating this hide. It was find 9106 for me.

======== NZ Mega 2021 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2021 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, October 2021

Ethness, Nosynel and I are on a caching adventure. TMGT caches in the middle and south of the North Island being our trip objective. Second last day and we are heading south. Tje story was interesting. Many thanks for the cache.
