Out on the back roads to find some of the caches in the area. A good day, with only a few showers, followed by a rainbow. Hardly any traffic. TFTC!!
It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. As I meander my way home from Wanganui to Wellington, via the outskirts of Feilding and Palmy, I found a bunch of Geocaches, and this was one of them.Cache was found as described.---Thanks to marisa&kaleb for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge
After a weekend away with friends and watching the AB's win (whew that was a close one) we did a little bit of caching. Chose the David Bowie power trail, slightly disappointed at the number of MIA caches and containers in poor condition. Another quick find.TFTC
This part of the road looks to be frequented by boy racers, plenty of skid marks!

After a couple of DNF's on the gravel road series, was pleased that we had a couple of easy finds in a row to boost our flagging ego's! TFTC

Headed out for an evening of caching. The aim was to complete the Bowie series plus a few of the Planets and Cars that we still needed to find. Got all but one of the Bowie ones. Enjoyed reminiscing about his music. Hunky Dory was one of his albums that I had at school and it’s still one of my favourites. Struggled opening some of the rusted mint tins and many of the caches had water in them however I was amazed how well the water proof paper worked. No problems signing. Thanks for the smileys.
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for a family Christmas. Today we cruised around the Manawatu.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

It's getting late in the day. "It's still windy isn't it?" *"No, it's Thursday!"* **"Me too. Let's go for a drink!"** All joking aside it **is** windy, but not raining.
Once again, this is the nearest unfound cache to home, so I'm here to get this cache.
Like Bacon's Law, I have less than six-degrees of separation from David Bowie. It goes like this... one - my wife; two - went to school in Auckland with Geeling Ng; three - Geeling was the title character in David Bowie's 1983 music video for his worldwide hit single *China Girl*.
Small World eh?! Anyway, Thanks for the chance to reminisce. TNLNSL TFTC

Out and about today to celebrate my birthday. A bit of a weird vibe this year, what with all the issues around Covid-19, but with Level 3 in place we had a bit of latitude so long as the Rules were strictly observed. Stay within our regions, and within 75km. Stay within our bubbles. Practice social distancing. Those last two were easy as I didn't see another person all day.
I picked out a few caches to do today that I knew would be reasonably remote, and not likely to have been handled in a while. Most of what I found today hadn't been found in at least 6 weeks, and some of them not since last year. And I had my trusty bottle of hand sanitizer with me.
This was a straightforward find and there were no issues with the cache or the log, which was signed before returning everything back as I found it and moving onto the next.
Thank you for placing this cache.

Stopped and visited during our Xmas roadtrip around the area. Thanks for another great trail, no problem locating this one TFTC. Merry Christmas and safe travels to all cachers
Thanks for this cache. By hubby final one for the day. A great day exploring the lovely rural roads. Thanks to all CO’s for having placed these caches for us. Favourite given for the series.
Found on my trip north enjoying the caches. On and off rain all day so not getting all of the caches. Aiming for a certain total then stopping for the day. Nearing the end of my trip now.
Nice to be out and about finishing off this series and singing to myself as I go
Enjoyed this small trail
Thanks marisa&kaleb

Have not been doing many caches over the last few weeks and it looked like we might not get the current souvenir as we had missed all the recent events, including the one today. Needed to be over in Feilding to drop the Jr. Cachers off at swimming and decided that there might just be enough time to grab a few caches on the country roads to the north.
Yet another of the caching series in the area that we only sampled today so will need to come back this way at some stage to finish off the rest. Another quick find before heading on up the road to the next. Thanks.

Up for the Mega for the week, had a great day in the Bulls and the sunrounding areas many thanks to the cache placer's - Bitsprayer
We are staying with family and had a surprising hour or so free so headed out this way to grab a few quick caches. Thanks for all of the power trails around here, enough to keep us busy for a number of trips to come (we just worked out we have over 100 caches still to find within 10 km's from Feilding centre). A nice quick find here with darthcacher1 and purply.

A weekend trip to Manawatu with FapandGap , Squirrel Nutcase, Philip. Perry, Mcjandals, NzFlossy and Tnxpro. We signed the logs TeamBop and had an awesome weekend. Thanks to the COs for their caches.
Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
Team BOP were still going. Its well after nightfall and we have now been caching for 16 hours. We passed 140 finds for the day and we were still powering on!
Back onto the David Bowie series. The music App started up Bowie again. Who did that?

Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile...
Cue the music. TFTC.

#10,183. Returned to complete the David Bowie power trail series on Makara Road in Halcombe. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. This one was in excellent condition, and the weather proof paper was nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

(# 4537). Came up to the Manawatu to grab some caches on a nice fine winters day. There must have been a lot of rain recently as everything is waterlogged. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC(# 4537).
We have been fans of David Bowie's music throughout the many changes during his long career, and are familiar with all but a couple of the songs used in this series. So we were keen to pick up this trail this morning before heading back home to Auckland. We had the promised quick Park'n'grab finds at almost all of them. Thanks
I had some spare time while in town visiting some of the rellies, so I thought Id do a few of the easy drivebys in the area. I had a great day and grabbed a heap of caches. Lots of damp and wet caches, but not surprising given the weather. I did find some that had been replaced, but found the original nearby. Signed one or the other depending on which I found first. Thanks to all the CO's for a great day and apologies for the generic log.
Just time for a couple more caches before heading back to pick up Mr Rattll.
A nice quiet little spot with no muggles to be seen.
The cache was a quick find in the obvious spot. Nice to find a bigger container too. I left one of our pet rocks - a badger.
Thanks for setting this up M&K

I needed to get out of the house today so went on a wee little trail. Sorry about the genetic log, most of the eclipse tins were rust and hard to open but were in reasonable condition. Thanks for the caches, was a great drive.
A quick easy find in this David Bowie series.A passing farmer stopped to see what we were up to, but was satisfied with our explanation. TFTC
Have dropped off travelling companion spudnz and I still have a little bit of energy (and petrol) so might go and grab a few m&k caches whilst the mood takes me. I'm hoping/intending to get up to tripe figures of their caches for an up-coming Challenge cache placement that I also should qualify for before setting.. . . . . . . Grabbed some cars, colours, Bowie hits, planets . . . .
Today starts with daylight saving coming into effect which really means an extra hours caching, yay. I told my daughter I would be up and out early and was true to my word, was in the car and gone at 0600 just as light was breaking. I had a few targets for the day; do the zig-zag/ridge road power trail in Pohangina Valley with caching buddy spudnz, try and grab a D/T for my second lap around the track, try and get finds by a certain Manawatu cacher up to 100 finds for a Challenge cache I'm planning on setting, a big day is planned today. I ended up in triple figures, and even finishing at 4.30 while the day still had light in it, virtually unheard of. Still, 7 hours caching can take it out of you! Thanks to all of the COs whose hides I found today; some awesome caches out there and not easy to maintain for others - well done everyone

Have eventually got around to spending an afternoon in the area cleaning up some of the cache trails here. A quick find here like most of the rest of them. Signed log, TFTC.
On a wee trip down to the area doing some mini trails, this one fell within range, so we grabbed it while passing. Signed 2BB 1BB for 2 Bulbars and Blenheim Bear. Mission accomplished, this one is a wrap. Thanks for the cache from Blenheim Bear!

Out on a road trip this weekend with Blenhiem Bear. It was raining as we left home and rained all the way to Turakina then cleared and at the first stop it was sunny and very warm (thank you)
We had a great time and saw many friends names as we signed the logs all logs signed 2 BB & 1 BB for 2 Bulbars and Blenhiem Bear
Thanks for placing all these caches and we enjoyed cruising around the back country

It was good to finish this series with a cache relating to another of my favourite Bowie tracks, I have enjoyed going about searching for these treasures and will need to return to have another look for the Starman cache. Thanks, marisa&kaleb.
This was always going to be a bit of a caching trip in the company once again of HKCB. Having though about it and done a fair bit of planning over the past couple of weeks this was a chance for a reasonable clean out of an area that we don't normally get to. So with families in mind, rather than setting out on the Friday evening we left home at 2am on the Saturday morning to make our way south before either the heat of the day or there was too much traffic on the road.
Some stats for the weekend
- Distance Traveled = 1457 kms
- Petrol = 3 x Fills
- Time Away from Home = 42 hours
- Straight Driving Time = 6 hours
- Sleep = 4 hours
- Caches Found = 250
- DNF's = 3
So after a straight forward drive down here this was the first that we located of what was going to be a very long day, and followed by another very long day.
While I apologize that these are 'copy & paste" logs, I would just like to say thank you to all the CO's that have have put out and maintained these caches for us out of 'non-locals' to find. It was a great weekend and we traveled though some amazing countryside.
A key learning from the weekend was that a Mazda CX5 is not designed to ford rivers.
So thank you for the placement, thank you for the cache.

On a weekend mission with Cats&Dragons, for a bit of a numbers run along the new trails around the Northern Manawatu area, and anything else along the way. As usual these types of trips mean maximizing caching time and minimizing sleep time. So with a 2am start time Saturday morning we left home and headed South, and not getting back home til 8.30pm Sunday night. Some numbers for the trip as I know we all like caching stats are:
* 1450km traveled.
* 286 caches found (192 on Saturday, 94 on Sunday) with only 3 DNF's
* 4 hours sleep
* With a 3 hour each way drive to the Caching area, so about 32 hours of caching in the 42 hours we were away at an average of nearly 9 caches per hour, this isn't including stopping for fuel and coffee!!!
So a huge thanks to all the CO's for the placements, and for the reason to see some more of our wonderful country, we saw some pretty amazing places. Sorry for the copy and paste logs. We signed the log books HKCD, or HKCBC&D.

I had another opportunity to pop out and try to grab some more of these power trail caches just north of Feilding. I didn't realise until I got to the first cache that today is in fact Friday the 13th and unfortunately for me, the day didn't end as well as I would've hoped. Nearing the end of my trip (only four caches left to find) I somehow managed to jam my finger in the car door. With my finger throbbing in pain and blood leaking everywhere, I decided to retire hurt for the day. Leaving the rest of the cache for another day.
I was surprised at how quiet the roads were and was only passed by one muggle looking at me suspiciously.
First cache of my trip and a quick and easy find here.
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

It wasn't so much a case of “Trains and Boats and Planes” today, more one of Cars and Songs and Colours, with the odd Planet thrown into the mix. I enjoyed a nice day in the country with the sun on my back. Cheers and thanks for all the caches. TFTC
Today, along with D6NZ, we were attempting to get ruby in a caching feat by logging 120 caches in a single day. Unfortunately I had already done the Ohakea run, D6 some of the ones south of sanson, and jointly many around Halcombe so we needed to venture a bit wider than was ideal but we were up to it.
At a this point in the day we were making really good progress (find number sixty eight), having finished the run of dwarfs, smurfs and herbs, only losing about an hour travelling to the nest of colours and cars. While here we were able to continue with Mr Bowie, a series we had eaten into on a previous occasion, when we did not see ourselves going for a targeted number on a given day (more fool us).
All in all a good day, lots of scenery, lots of roads both sealed and unsealed that we had not been on, and largely thanks to M&K.
Cheers

Planned a days caching around a goal of logging 120 caches today to obtain a ruby feat. Unfortunately some of the runs available I had already eaten into during normal
caching days which meant I had to target a few trails with 50 or more minutes travelling time between them, chewing up precious daylight hours.
Left home at 6:30 got back well after 9pm. it was a long day.
I targeted three areas, Bulls, Feilding, and Himitangi.

The weather was right and all was planned..It was an early start as We met at the big town of Halcombe at 7.45 am and then proceeded along Stanway road picking up geo caches along the way, all except Tweet Tweet..... Grrr. but as my foot was not totally healed from Turangi Gaol expedition, it was decided to give that climb a miss so another time! The Puzzle caches were first along this route and then onto the David Bowie Trail, this being the first. Although we did find some of these DB caches up to 10m out sometimes but mostly the hint sufficed luckily. I do find caches that all start with same words difficult on my Gps as it is so easy to get muddled! We then turned into Makara road and located caches along here , then headed to locate some more of the Car trail and then onto some more of the planets- before MJMNZ's tyre got a puncture but with Jono's expert help and the help of a local farmer all was temporarily Ok for us to proceed into Feilding.. Air in the tyre and then it was time to find a café for a much need drink! before splitting up and returning to our own cities. altogether we had great morning and found a satisfying number of caches so many thanks for these trails and all our smiley faces.
Early start meeting in the middle of Halcolme at 8 am !!
Out for a morning of geocaching with JonoS, Haydnseek and myself.
No Rain lots of wind and long grass with the spring growth. At times grass waist high. David Bowie caches harder on GPS as the name comes first so more difficult to find the name of the cache. All in all a good fun day apart for a puncture (a new tyre needed$$$ as a big nail in the tyre and Jono changed it with the help of a local farmer. )Thanks for placing this series

Oh another great song that I'm able to completely sing along to. Some great memories along this trail. TFTC #9529
I decided to go home via National Park as I though The desert rad would be way too busy to stop for a few geocaches. My flight for Christchurch left Palmerston North at 5pm. Next I took the back way to Feilding and allowed myself until 3.30 before heading back towards the airport. just felt like some nice park and grabs and these ones were perfect. I love David Bowie music.
Heading towards the Mega. Thought it would be impolite not to grab a few on the way through. Thanks all for the hides.

How do you take 4 hours to get to a place that a local has told us should only take about 10minutes.
Thats easy, when your out searching for flashy motor cars, along farming country roads while completing not a power trail, but as I would have called it a TributeTrail to David Bowie.
This was great way to see the area.

After spending the morning cleaning my house (have been neglecting the housework lately in lieu of caching), I decided to reward myself with a couple of hours of caching! So I thought I'd knock of a few of the recent hides just out of Feilding. Quick find here and on my way. TFTC
Thanks so much for this power trail and bringing us out to this beautiful piece of countryside.TFTC!
A very pretty little valley through here and pleasantly sheltered from what was a rather cold wind blowing today despite the sunshine. All the green grass on the hills and hundreds of white fluffy lambs about was an amazing sight to see. A quick fun run along Makara Road with all caches found without any issues.
Many thanks for the placements marisa&kaleb

I should have been listening to the appropriate Bowie song for these ones... but the roar of the wind was sufficient today! Thanks for another cool series - I must return for more of them!
We enjoyed a caching expedition with edvern today to find marisa&kaleb's three new trail series: Planets. David Bowie, and Cars. The weather was a bit drizzly to start with but we hardly needed to bother with jackets most of the time and the day gradually cleared. Not surprisingly, the ground was quite mucky in places, but there was generally a reasonable spot to park which is certainly appreciated. The views were lovely, even when rain misted them out in the distance. So an enjoyable day out and we found all the caches - what more could you want from geocaching? Thank you for setting up all these caches marisa&kaleb.
This was #5 on our particular trail today. Good to have edvern in her tramping boots to cross the long wet grass to reach this one. TFTC

Out with geodatum, our mission being to complete the new trails set up by m&k. Now on to our first David Bowie cache. We appreciated these caches being located on quiet back roads, usually safe to pull off the road, and not in view of houses. All the contents were in excellent condition with good use of waterproof paper. All were found without any problems. Most of all, this was a very enjoyable drive through back roads, many of which I have not been on before. Even though the day was drizzly at times the countryside was most attractive. Thanks very much for your efforts marisa&kaleb!
Hubby off to fetch his elderly dad for the weekend for fathers day so I got my mum to come on a caching run with me this morning. Mum drove and I grabbed. Looking like rain the whole way but held off - much to our relief. Some co-ordinates had us on the wrong side of the road but pretty much it didn't take long to suss out each one. We found everything we set out to get this morning. No muggles around. Enjoyed listening to the lambs bleating in the paddocks. I love this time of the year. We enjoyed the gravel roads as well - especially mum who got to drive them! Many thanks to Marisa&Kaleb for placing all these caches which have come at an awesome time as we have no caches for September and I want to get 250 in September to qualify for finding a cache in the Wairarapa. Over this way to do The Bowie, Car and Planet caches before lunchtime. Was over here early and found this cache fairly quickly - signed log and left as found. Thanks for all caches in these series marisa&kaleb and apologies for the generic posts.
Lucky last before heading home. A quick find here. Congatulations to popmac on the ftf. Thanks also for the placements have really enjoyed the country road even though the weather.! And of course another smiley.
With two more new caches up this way, I loaded onto GPS & decided to re-visit the area. Yay, a blank log for [FTF]. A quick park & grab, for my 3999th cache. Thanks for the cache, marisa&kaleb.
