2 November 2024 08:52 dalerious and I only signed four caches this Saturday, but when you take into the account what type of caches they were, and where they were, you wouldn't accuse us of slouching, or say we started our day too late. The first alarm went off at 0230hrs, but my poor husband needed a little more sleep after a big day at work, so I put it to sleep for another hour.....We were packed and off by 0500hrs and it was shaping up to be perfect weather for the calibre of caches we had on our list.We arrived to an empty carpark, and as we walked down to the falls we got to enjoy the area without a soul around. We made very good progress to the cache. I can't believe how we just picked the right line to get us there. Studying topographical maps helps, but it's not until you are in the field that the true lay of the land is revealed. And topographical maps don't show undergrowth, fallen debris etc.At gz we assessed the best way to access where the cache was hidden, and as this was my turn to claim so much unloved, it had to be me first making my way to the prize.Just as I scrambled to the ledge, with dalerious hanging onto me as I retrieved the cache, a Peregrine Falcon flies over head and cried out, and at that moment we felt truly blessed.Thank you Jamin Appleford.

2 November 2024 8:52amLast weekend, catnap777 and I cleaned up every other cache on McMillans and Paradise Falls Tracks. We saved this one for today before heading for Powers Lookout and more T4.5 caches on the other side of the King River. TwistedIt was well before dawn when cat' and I set off from home, but well past when we were looking up at these amazing falls again. They are well named. CoolAlthough we are sure we picked the right route from there to the escarpment, we were not so sure about our means of getting to the right altitude. We did some sketchy stuff there that could have made the EPIRB a handy bit of kit. [xx(] It was tricky getting up, and dodgy getting down. Red FacePerhaps the wiser, safer move would have been to circumnavigate the bottom edge for a better option, or bring proper climbing gear, but we wont know that till we talk to others that make/made the effort to reach this amazing place too. [8]Anywho.... That took care of all the T4.5 rating (and some), but how do you make an ammo can a D3? Well Jamin took care of that bit with the placement and all I can say is that you will need a good measure of faith in something or someone to reach this grail and we were so glad to be here together to rely on each other. [^]Just as cat' emerged with cache in hand, we heard the unmistakeable call of a Peregrine Falcon and we looked up to see it circling overhead as if heralding our victory. Big GrinTFTC Jamin. This truly is a Touch of Paradise with a view to die for. Thankfully neither of us had to. RazzWink

Well, I have bushbashed with the best of them for many caches but the way I was going was not going to work. Going to reach out to the CO for some guidance before coming back. Beautiful place though.

I came to the falls but figured being on my own and exhausted from the climb back up the hill, I'd give this one a pass. Gives me something to come back for, right.

Wow, what an adventure.

It was the holidays and with nothing planned for this day, I started convincing those family members who are old enough to drive that we should go caching for the day. Eventually, the nagging payed off and a trip to paradise falls and powers lookout was planned with hiking, bushbashing and riding with Bulldog! Only condition, I have to choose what caches to do.

Ok, so after finding the little falls and the paradise falls caches, this was next on our bucket list. We skirted around the falls and headed on our route to the cache. Thank goodness I had spoken to the CO about the route to the cache otherwise there would be some heavy bushbashing.

Anyway, off we went, weaving our way through the scrub, up a hill, down a hill, back up a massive hill until we arrived at the escarpment. So, I was nominated for the final assent which I was pleased with. We skirted around and found a route that, although not too bad, would require some dodgy manoeuvres.

Once at the top, I looked around in some easy hiding spots until I reluctantly went to where I thought it may be and where, knowing the CO, it probably would be. The cache was found and after signing the log, some pictures were taken and the magnificent views of paradise falls were admired. Getting down was a bit trickier than getting up but we all were pretty pleased with the find.

Love it!!!!
Hope I can find some more caches like this in the future.

What a time we had! This was an adventure and a half to say the least, we bashed round a non-existent track. Trying to just navigate our way through the somewhat treacherous bush landscape provided much adventure. After our not so little walk we got to where we knew the cache was. Pigwigeon was ready to scale and in the and after a while the cache was retrieved and logged and replaced. TFTC, loved this hide a lot, enough for a favourite from me! Oh and what a stunning view!!

"Of droughts and flooding plains."
A line from the famous poem.

Last time the bananas were here the area was in drought and the image of these falls could only be dreamed about. There was no water falling.
But today
It was different.
4 significant water falls could be seen to filling the King River and from this source, threaten to yet again flood Wangaratta.
Soden grounds, fallen trees everywhere and the huge winds of yesterday. So significant that even the high mountains could not sheild the valleys below.

But the conversation for placement would have gone a little like this.

Put it here?
No. Not dangerous enough.
How about here?
No. But better.
How about up there?
No. But getting warmer?
How about out there?
Looks good.
Help. Help. Help me!
Perfect.
