WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 81 - Geraldton Day 1. My plan today was to attempt some of the series of caches around Geraldton. I started off with the Plane View caches around the airport. Very mixed road conditions, tractors to massive ore trucks. Plenty of difficult hides and some I just could not locate. Next I headed north for a go at the Jungle series, that looked like it was on a road, but, wow, it was not. I walked to most of them from Chapman road but even here I had a few I could not find. After lunch I went into the town center to do a set of Labs and tried unsuccessfully serval caches there, only one in the end. I will do some logging and head back into town for dinner tonight. Rain predicted this evening, it could be a quiet day tomorrow. Thanks for the cache gabs196348534.14 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2006 Australia 4 A#48**Albida**

We have found many of this series over many visits to Geraldton since they were published in 2016 so we wanted to find a few more this visit and needing caches for the streak challenge

Today i had to head into town to pick up some supples and decided to drive passed the airport and try my luck. I pulled over and was able to park safely. The GPSr led me directly to the cache for a nice easy find and I added our name to the log

Thanks gabs1963 for placing and maintaining these caches.

Our aim today was to find the caches in the plane spotting series. We enjoyed the trail and the variety of hides and caches. Spotted quite a few planes taking off and landing, so must have been around at a good time. Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

There was only just enough time to collect a few caches this morning with ilook4geo before the ominous looking black clouds rolled over and the rain came pouring down. After the rain had eased a little we headed out of town to pick up a few of the Observing Planes series. This was fortunately a quick find, signing duties were done and we moved on to the next one. Thanks for this cache placement go to gabs1963.

Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was from simply cruising around in Geraldton
.

On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Tradi-Cache.

Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.

Thanks to 'gabs1963' for showing us this location and for the fun we had with 'Observing Planes #15'. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.

Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest.

This afternoon I tried to do this whole series to finish the “Mystery in the Museum” challenge by Geocaching HQ.

The series was overall a nice one with lots of different ways of hiding and lots of different containers. Too bad there were a few DNF’s. I think some caches are probably missing.

The surroundings were pretty peaceful, but some parts of the series were less interesting. This was mainly because of the busier road.

Thanks for putting this series of caches together and hopefully the CO can do some maintenance soon.

This one was found quickly.

TFTC!

Out and about in Geraldton WA decided to do a few caches, great series.

09-Aug-18
The rain began to get a little heavier, and this road is much busier than the previous ones so we were hoping for quick finds. The cache didn't disappoint.
This was an interesting series.
We had almost given up on the day in the morning as the strong winds and rain of the night continued. We had been out to do some shopping, and returned for lunch and then the sun began to work hard to improve and warm the day. The strong winds continued however but we decided to head out and test our luck.
There was quite a variety of hides along the way so we could not afford to begin the search with any preconceived ideas. The size of hides varied from a couple of regulars, some smalls and many micros with even a few 'nanos in the bush'. We were probably very fortunate to find some, and certainly were assisted by the very accurate coordinates that we came to rely on regularly. In the end we missed two.

I decided to have a big day and find as many in and around Geraldton today before heading further north. I was very keen on the power trail, so I headed out here. Great fun to power around, but what a disappointment to see all the rubbish along the road as if people who drive past here had never seen and used a rubbish bin. The drinks and food the rubbish came from were quite rubbish by themselves so I guess rubbish in rubbish out. The caches were fun though and a good variety too. I even discovered processionary caterpillar nests that I have never heard of before. Thanks for the series!!

30-Jun-18
I really hope this stretch of caches survive. Thankfully most of those that are bisons are secured to the fence. Machinery is clearing right up to the fence line as work occurs on the road. I had to time my stops between a big roller flattening the shoulder of the road. Thanks for the hide.

Have just arrived back at the motel after completing this series today. Had an absolute blast with the variety of hides and clever camoes that this well maintained series offers. Perfect weather as some of the caches may have been a little freaky in summer but a large number of caches had a well worn geo-trail to the hide that helped make accessing some of the caches easier. Thanks for this series,gabs1963 which is no doubt a feature of WA geocaching. A fave for the series.(which I will give to the little gumnut cache. Adding the fave here! TFTC!

29-Aug-16
Headed up to Geraldton for 4 days to try and find as many caches as we could. Its been 6 months since we were last there and there has been so many new caches come out that we will need another trip there to find them all. We ended up finding 215 and about a dozen DNFS. We picked a few up on the way and did a detour on the way home to Mullewa and i must say the wildflowers are beautiful at the moment. We found a great variety of caches including a couple of wherigo,s, lots of field puzzles, multi,s and the highlight for the hubby was doing the chirp cache. I would like to say all caches were found quickly but that definately wasnt the case lol.... There was some very tricky and sneaky hides that took quite a while to find with a few we went back a couple of times to till we found them. We managed to find a few that we previously had DNFS on and it was was great finding a lot of creative cache containers especially some of the field puzzle ones. Thanks to everyone for the caches and hope to find a lot more on our next trip to geraldton....

Hi there gabs1963.

We found your cache **"Observing Planes #15"** at 12:05:00 PM today, so this makes our find count 14480.

We thought that we had finished this series, apart from the DNF's we had the other day. - As there have been more placed we decided to complete the circuit once more, and this time we only left one unattempted - because the muggle on the tractor was becoming a little nosy.

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around 2m from where our GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge in caches large enough to take one.

Thanks for the hunt today,

Regards

Ian & Penny.

Our second group run before the IGD event this afternoon. Nice group with 2 cars, comprising Fratra, Clan-Wallce and m4yb, and a lovely catch up with Everlasting on the last 2 or 3.

A great series with some interesting hides and some were easy and other took a bit more grey matter!

Thanks for the series and a nice collection of smily's gabs1963

So it came to pass that this series was chosen by Clan Wallace, Fratra, megawat60 and self, to occupy our morning of the IGD 2016 Event in this fair City.
All caches were found, some took longer than others!
A few planes and a chopper took off to remind us of where we were.
Thanks for this cache and series gabs1963.

It is really pleasant to head north for a few days to get warm! Why didn't we think of it before! It has been a particularly cold winter down south, even for Poms. We set out to do a bit of plane spotting with other escapees from colder climes, m4yb, sir Megawatt60 & Fratra. We found the whole series & even managed a couple of FTFs All in all a great morning.....and we still have an Event to attend! TFTC

TFTC! Today was day one of the "boys weekend" with me and Cravo heading up to Geraldton for IGD 2016, my third trip to this great part of our state and johns second. Think we will continue to do this every year? Especially with all of the new caches getting published around town!!

We drove up the coastal route to cleanup the last of what we had left, so that we could concentrate on the various alternate routes on the way home and on our trip to Geraldton and Mullewa next week for the annual Mullewa Gift event.

We picked up a number of new caches along the route and even some that we had missed on previous visits, being in a 4wd this year made it a lot easier to get to some of the hard to reach places that a 2wd would struggle to get to.

We completed a few really nice caches at cliff head including a legendary Liz and Bruce hide and a couple of ten year old caches.

We got to Greeenough and decided to complete the greenough walk trail caches as well as the caches along Delvin road, knowing that we wouldn't be heading back this way on the way home.

The greenough walk trail was great except for getting two flat tyres from some slow leaks that happened to go a bit faster!!

We then moved our attention to the planes series, which was just bliss, chewed through about 25 caches in just over an hour with Cravo and me taking turns at finding the most likely spot for a cache from about two hundred meters away.

We then meandered around town cleaning up a bunch of caches that have either been recently published or we've missed previously. Had a couple of DNFs, nowhere near as many as I famously had last year, but I might have to refresh my notes from some local cache owners who I'm looking forward to meeting at the event tomorow.

Thanks to the local COs for their hospitality so tatami their cool caches.

19-Aug-16
Headed to Geraldton for the International Geocaching Day event on Saturday 20th August.

Barnzy12 and I packed the car at 6am and headed North. Despite making a critical error by choosing the freeway to start the journey we then made it to Geraldton and checked into the motel by 5.30pm.

We found several caches along the way some new, old and even archived caches. As I missed the event last year I was guided to some others on the map that I hadn't found before and made for some quicker finds yet still enjoyable.

Ended up back at the motel after getting the new plane spotting series and some other caches close to the city centre at around 9pm. Beers were cold and was then time to relax. After a 15 hour day sleep was needed ready for the big day tomorrow.

*FTF*

As we were heading west to east at the first cache we decided to drive up to the furthest east and work our way back that way the caches where all on the same side of the road as we pull over.

I have wanted to stop here for years as I have always been interested in those two old ruins in the paddock. Today they looked particularly pretty with all the green vegetation growing up around and through them. I took a couple of photos but wished I had taken our "big" camera so will have to come back another day. It's a shame they are on private land as I would love to wander through the old house, wouldn't it be wonderful if it could be restored to its' former glory.

thanks gabs1963
