Although the GPS played us tricks, we found it when we looked at the obvious hiding spot.TFTC!

Cheers, nice to get another of the railway series. An area that will soon need to be filled in with whale trail catches

Found this cache with Net61 after a little search. It wasnt the type of cache we were expecting here. Tftc

13-Sep-24
It took us a few minutes to locate this through the morning glory.

06-Aug-24
Even though we stay nearby once or twice a year I had never been down this way. The double lure of a Munzee and a cache brought me down here today. The cache was not the type I expected but was in great condition (the listed trackable was not present though). Reaching for it I only had to disturb a few spiders, and the log was quickly signed and back in place. Thank you for the cache and the always informative series.

Quick easy find - nice to be off the main road - TFTC

27-Jul-24
Thanks for the cache

Driving from Christchurch to Wellington today to attend the epic geocaching trip to Mana Island on Sunday. It would be silly to not grab a few random caches on the way up the island. A quick detour to grab this cache. That Darn Bear doesn't like spiders, and since the cache hadn't been found since December there were a fair few guardians of the cache, so he let me do the honours.A short look around, and some photos, and time to hit the road again. Thanks for the cache.

I was so intent on finding the standard hide, that I didn't look elsewhere. I went back to my car and read a few logs then returned and spotted the cx. TFTC.

Interesting history

Having a milestone birthday this weekend, my aim was 50 caches. That was too much for one day so the 50 finds were spread over the celebratory weekend, 1/2 on my way South and 1/2 on my way North.

This was find number 44, a drop in the bucket for the CO. Dropped in one of his pathtags too.

25-Jul-22
Reeled in Hapuka and signed the log - thanks for the cache Smile

Came at this from the wrong side. Got stopped by two locals who were interred in way were down a dead end.

Anyhow, over to the right side of the rail lines and found the cache quickly enough.

I do believe that they put up a fence so you can no longer find that one without going on to private property.

06-Apr-22
Out for an afternoon of caching after parking up at Donegal house. Weren't sure of the approach to this one but locked gates at railway line meant we would try option two from the other end. Lovely dry spot for this cache and we'll protected. Thanks for this cache Seagnoid.

18-Feb-22
Without another clue, can't tell if all the fresh tree trimming contributed to the DNF but ... we concede defeat on this one

15-Feb-22
Good to avenge a previous dnf! The GPS was still taking me over the fence, which I may or may not have followed, but in any case I got a good view of the cache where I was standing! TFTC!!

20-Nov-21
Another rail cache done and dusted. This wasn't the usual container for this series but variety is the spice of life and all that. Anyway, soon spotted and log signed off. All good here. tftc

Took longer than it should have, followed a geotrail in but was expecting Seagnoid’s usual type rail hide. Fortunately Mr E spotted it. Thanks Seagnoid for the history and for this smiley.

28-Sep-21
I had parked my snail shell up in the nearby NZMCA park and zoomed back in my cachemobile as all the parking areas for the caches were a tad small for my complete rig.

Now, how does one get to the nearby cache easily?

Cheers for the cache.

Walked across railway as road does go all the way. Quick find

02-Feb-21
Should have trusted my instincts the first time. See the locals have a hut nearby. Doing a road trip as I have to wait for my villa to be refurbished. What better way than doing a road trip geocaching. Thanks for placing and maintaining.

A quick find on my driving around the area

11-Sep-20
(# 5987). Day 2 of my South Island odyssey. Today is getting caches from Blenheim to Kaikoura. The weather was decidedly average with mainly light drizzle interrupted by heavy rain. It's the first time I have driven along the coast since the earthquake. I can now appreciate the carnage that occurred. Even how much the seabed rose around Kaikoura. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC

27-Jul-20
Now that’s big!

26-Jul-20
A well secured and weather proof cache.

16-Jun-20
I am on a bit of a getaway this week. Having a domestic holiday and road trip in lieu of some international travel plans that were cancelled due to the strange time we find ourselves in. Today I am heading from Nelson to Kaikoura via Blenheim, finding a few caches along the way. This one took longer to find than it should have done. I was all over the place in and around GZ. A previous log helped me focus my search and find the cache. TFTC, Biggles.

#8 Caching with Sidewaze on our way home after a family Christmas in Christchurch. Thanks for this series Mr Sig. couldn’t take the short cut across to next cache - track neatly shut off. TFTC

29-Dec-19
The GPS wanted me somewhere in the middle of the thicket or other side of fence with two barbed wire layers? Tried turning off and back on, and explored the accessible area, but not much luck. I will be back.

29-Dec-19
Thanks for another in this great series.

Not sure if road from beach went through so crossed line with care. An impressive specimen.

27-Oct-19
Thanks for this cache, the Seagnoid.
A quick Labour weekend visit to Kaikoura with purdiepurdie; we had found the cache closer to the sea than this one - and possibly expected that it was a straight road through; the reality was a bit different but we got there eventually.
A lovely area.

27-Oct-19
TCTC. A quick trip north to Kaikoura with KSI. Talked about for too long - now we are here enjoying the area.
I love coming down previously unvisited roads and this was one of them.

29-Aug-19
I tried grabbing this cache in the past and had to turn around because of all the workers in the area. This time I headed out at 5:30 pm after a work party, because surely the workers will be at the party too, right? They sure were. A quick park and grab at GZ. Very glad to tick this one off at last. TFTC.

14-Jun-19
A little different to the others, I spent a couple of minutes looking for the signature hide before asking myself where I would place it. Quick find after that. TFTC the Seagnoid.

Another Friday afternoon drive to ChCh for the weekend, I have a new vehicle to pick up and my niece’s 18th. A few caches found on the left hand side on the way down, as you do, before the darkness hit just north of ChCh. Maybe a few more tomorrow. Thanks to all COs.

02-Jun-19
This place must get very busy during the week. It appears to be where the big slabs on concrete for extending the tunnel portals are delivered to. Fortunately today is Sunday so n o muggles about. TFTC

04-May-19
Found with NZDi on our way up to Mt Fyffe Hut. This morning NZDi asked what we were going to do in the garden, but I had done everything yesterday, leaving the rest of the weekend free. So she said where can we go caching and I suggested Mt Fyffe. As it was too late to get to Kaikoura and get to the summit and back before dark, we decided to only go as far as the hut, and not go onto the summit. As it turned out we left the car park at 10.30am and got to the hut and back which worked out to be just over 12 kms in just under five hours. It was a busy day on the track as we met several groups and individuals on the way up, but the most surprising thing was the amount of people heading up as we were going down. I think there must have been a band playing at the hut tonight and we missed the invitation, but I reckon there are going to be more people sleeping in tents outside than the eight who will be using the bunks inside.

This was our final find of the day and we decided to go for it for two reasons. Firstly it was a previous DNF from earlier in the year. Secondly NZDi has this OCD thing about everything being even and so far we had found five caches today. Not a good number for someone with NZDi's condition. when we made the DNF we were looking for a feature that identifies 90% of the Seagnoid's railway series caches, but couldn't find it here. Questioning of the CO determined that this was one of his first railway station caches and he hadn't got around to inventing that type of hide when it was placed. With a different perspective on the cache we made a QEF PnG at GZ. I think this may be the last in the series for me to get.

Couldn’t find it. Not sure if your meant to over the fence or not but looked both sides and in the bush and couldn’t find it Sad

Wanted to go to the sea, to find out this was a dead end. Ok, then at least grab the cache in another cache in another little cache. Certainly dry!

Meanwhile this is my third geocaching-trip to Middle-Earth Smile. And I love it! [:X]
Still there are routes and places in this beautiful country that are on the 'discover-me' list and want to be visited and explored. Smile.
Starting from Kaikoura, this day (#21) was dedicated to drive up north to Blenheim along the beautiful, scenic route #1 at the coastline [^] - a new experience Big Grin.
The weather was again blessed with blue skies SmileSmile
Was happy to visit quite a few geo-treasures that seamed the route Cool - just like this one:
Here I firstly encountered my new passion [:o)] : - to collect Marlborough rail caches by the Seagnoid Cool...
A nice box in excellent condition! [^]
This is one of the very rare cases of ‘triple containering’ Cool [^] [:o)] - making sure, sure, sure that the log does stay dry [^]. well done! Cool
Thanks to the owner [:X] for placing and maintaining this cache and best regards from Germany! SmileSmile

Found on 25/01/2019.

I was up at the top of the South Island competing in the South Island Orienteering Champs. This gave me some time to grab some caches on the way there and back. It was great fun to explore a new part of the coutntry.

I like the containers for this series.

Missed something here but after reading the previous log I'm wondering if our eyes are painted on.

26-Dec-18
We were heading South on our summer holiday and we had been told of a potential camping area not too far from here, so as we were checking that out we walked over to see if we could find this cache. Turned out to be a nice easy find in the first place GK looked. Thanks for placing the cache and of course thank you for the smiley,

15-Nov-18
One more day, one more trip, one more cache on the way. This time going North to Nelson.
This place seems like a abandones construction site. Love this trees over here. Seem só old and peaceful.

04-Nov-18
Different compared to the others on the series. TfTF

23-Oct-18
A little detour to make sure the road was still blocked (for OSM) and to pick up this cache Smile 2nd one in the series that wasn't in the same type of hide as the rest Smile

02-Oct-18
We only looked for caches in this series after we left Kaikoura today. They were nicely spaced and away from the workers in all but one case. The history on the pages is always interesting as well.
Thanks.

01-Oct-18
Grabbing a few caches on my way north today. Still early morning so nobody about. TFTC

02-Sep-18
Came to Kaikoura for the weekend to watch some squash and have a few refreshments. Today is finals day but I'm heading back early - time for a handful of finds before hitting the road.
Traffic is light - so no hassle pulling in here. Was a slightly different hide from what I was expecting - but easy none the less.
TFTC the Seagnoid.

Being a relief teacher with a campervan and a supportive family, I decided it was time to make use of the school holidays. I stayed the night at the Top 10.
The end of a lovely stay. I will be back.
I have never been here before. A nice spot for lunch. The last find in this series for a while.

Second cache for the day. Found second time around after getting stuck on the one way system. Thanks for the cache

31-Mar-18
Day 2 of our Easter raid East and were out collecting some points for the Planetary Pursuit.
I went one side Mum went the other and she found it. It really felt like a Matryoshka doll situation putting everything back together again. We have now made it to Neptune and its still a long way to Pluto but this puts us a little bit closer so double Thanks for the cache Smile

29-Mar-18
On our way to Kaikoura for the weekend.
We decided to visit a few of the bygone railway stations on the way.
An enjoyable series, thank you.
I made the mistake of turning off SH1 too early and ended up driving through the one way system the wrong way [:0] and then in an attempt to get back to SH1 we also had a tour of the screen works while looking for an exit. Nobody working today. They have either all knocked off early for Easter or they are only working night shifts. All part of the fun.

#15340. Made the detour down a narrow access road (made more exciting by sharing it with large trucks). Not too hard to find once at GZ. The last find of the MR series this trip; looking forward to finding more on future visits. TFTC.

12-Mar-18
Found with StreetWalker as we head home from Blenheim to Christchurch after an enjoyable long weekend.
We had tried to access this cache via Kiwa Rd and the cache there, but discovered that the road was private, so had to back track. Not an instant find, but found the cache in the obvious location. TFTC.

I think I've found too many Marlborough Rail caches, I should know better than assume I know what I'm looking for, not all caches are the same. Thanks the Seagnoid
