Epic day dor a walk on the island. 11 young navy trainees made the trek. Class one of 2024 August intake.
Four of us checking then Cheryl found it! Tucked under something she said should have had a hole drilled into it to hide the cache, then found the sneaky hide underneath. SL TFTC
Relatively quick easy find compared to some of the others weve found today, found with PhilBirdBoys. TFTC.
Found it! There was a snail on the container which was fun. Lots of wasps around.
Nice hide! Have replaced log book with new one and stashed inside original container in a bison.Note that its a black pill container as per previous photos!
Quick find when looking in the obvious place. Couldn't sign log like last finders noted so signed a piece of paper towel. Hopefully that survives till the owner can do maintenance. Tftc
As previously logged, The contents of the cash had been water damaged so I'll leave this photo as proof of finding it. Sorry, I did not have a new log to replace the old
Last cache for the day. Five hours just flies by! Saw some red-crowned parakeet and saddleback on the way to this location.
Wonderful day out on the Gulf, with lots of walking and a couple of refreshing dips. Will definitely have to come back to explore the island more and finish collecting the caches.
Had a bit of a look around before coming back to the most obvious place for concealing a cache. Sometimes pays to not overthink. Thanks for placing this cache.

On the island today to celebrate a friend’s 50th. We sneaked away for an hour to grab a few caches. All good with this one. This was a previous DNF for us
We took a group of young Navy Recruits for a walk on the island. Great walk and good sights. Cache needs some maintenance. Log book is wet through.
Found cache, 2nd time trying to find this cache, found it pretty easily this time. Mustve been luck. Log was wet so could not write name
Decided to do a day trip over to Motuihe Is. to have a look around & do a spot of geocaching. First cache found after a scenic walk from Calypso Bay!! Cache full of water and log absolute mush however so unable to be signed. Took photo of required. TFTC DOC!
Quick find with djhayes2122 on our favourite island to visit... Log a little wet.... Tftc
With rebel98 and muggles on Waitangi day looking for caches on Motuihe Island
Missed the track turnoff (the road?) and so had to make a bit of a backtrack as the phone struggled here, must be a bit of a cellphone dead zone?
As to the cache, was in the right place, spotted the potential hide, and there was the cache. Thanks DOCAuckland for the hide.
When did this Island get so popular? never seen this many people or boats.

Dedicated to me friend Duncan on Norfolk Island, in fact many of the views across this island reminded me of Norfolk. The rock sitting on the cache was most interesting and looked like the stone used by the Maori to shape tools. T4tc
Had just one more week of school holidays left so Pagenz planned a day to this island to pick up all the caches. Fortunately it was an overcast day so not as hot as it could have been. Lots of bird life around today and this cache was easily located and in good condition. TFTC
I decided to take my two nephews and niece on a last hurrah to Motuihe Island before school starts this week and I roped in paraonegirl to come with us. Wasn't expecting the ferry ride over to take as long, so we had less time on the island than we thought. All-in-all we found all the caches and the kids had time for a short swim in the ocean. The tour guide was surprised when I said we were heading out to Bald Knob with the kids. Easy for them, as I was the pack-horse carrying everything we needed - plenty of water, togs, towels and food. Hardly anyone else took advantage of the trails so we had them all to ourselves. It was a warm day, a little overcast, but thankfully not too hot.
A quick find here.
A quick find here.
Joined up with Metlot58 and Pazza2 to explore Motuihe island. It was a very slow trip out to the island on the red boat on a drizzly morning. As we approached the island the weather cleared. We t took the hard way to this GZ. Cache is no longer a sistema.
Motuihe Island has been on my must do for a long time so a plan was made to head out to the island with Pazza2 and Jag50. The morning drizzle didn't deter us and after a slow boat ride we set out on our walk with the drizzle clearing to make for a great day on the island. We encountered so much wonderful native birdlife and we lost count of the saddlebacks we saw up close on our walk. A nice easy find was made here.
Thanks Doc for placing a cache on this Island. I spoke to one of your rangers here and see some good work done here. I see you also have a battle with convolvulus here but the trees and plantings are obviously serving the masses of native birds here. I think I heard Kakariki and saw plenty of Saddlebacks and Whiteheads!
Teamed up with Alpenmilch80 and her Imaginary muggle friend. Great day out on the island with a nice ice cream from the DOC office at the end. The slow ride back with the Red Boats gave us some time to enjoy a well deserved cold beer.

Saw the advertisement for the red boats heading out to Motuihe Island and booked the tickets with KiwiLeon and my muggle friend. Enjoyed the slow ride out to the island to start exploring the tracks. The geocaches were found easily providing us scenic views and places. Enjoyed dipping our hot legs into the cooling water at Takutairaroa Bay and the ice cream provided for sale by doc.
The slow ride back to Auckland and an excellent day spend was celebrated with a couple of cold beers on the boat. TFTC

Out with Tuolei for our second island adventure within a week, this time we planned to clear Motuihe. This time we took Urbangypsy, MrCleverclogs, Mrs Tuolei , Mrs B and Tinytree along but they spent most of the time at the beach as we ventured around the tracks. Although no where near as demanding as Rangitoto it is still a good walk on a hot day and filled in most of our time between the drop off and pick up times we had.
Log was saturated so we have replaced with a waterproof one in a ziplock, TFTC.

Just about at the half way point here of Bennett24 and my trip around Motuihe collecting the caches on the island and taking in the sights. As other loggers note, the original sistema container was muggled some time ago so the new container is a pill container (thanks to avoyager for replacing it). Not entirely waterproof unfortunately so the log was saturated. Between the two of us we came up with a replacement logbook and ziplock bag for the cache that hopefully we last for a while. Thanks for the cache.
Wonderful island and nice caches!
Unfortunately, the logbook is very wet, maybe needs some maintenance.

Some Paradise Ducks flew their rounds above me. A slight drizzle and wet feet. What a beautiful walk.
After clearing up the western side of the island, we made our way east. Once at GZ the cache was quickly spotted. What started out as an overcast morning turned into a hot sunny day. All good here, TFTC!
A good turn up to this meetup - think the island destination added to the adventure. It was a nice warm day, and we hiked off to the furthest cache first. No major hassle finding the caches on this walk, with so many eyes. Good to see people making there first finds.

The largest Meetup group we have had so far and it was great to explore the island with people who had made their first find. This was a struggle to find at first and had many of us searching, but soon had our hands on the cache
The walk around the track to collect this one reminded what a special and beautiful Island this is.
I was almost going to bypass this one as it was so hot out in the sun and preferring to walk on the shady tracks. Lucky it was a quick find so I could move on and get to the beach for a swim.TFTC
Found it eventually when out with geocaching meet up group for first time !
Bit exposed up this end....looking forward to a shady spot to stop for lunch....Thanks guys for organising.
Plus the container is now a pill bottle ...not a sistema...so a little harder to find!
Thanks DOCAuckland .

Out to Motuihe island with the Meetup group. Our second find of the day as we headed back from Bald Knob. Not found immediately, but with plenty of eyes looking it was soon in hand.
Found it while visiting this beautiful island. Unfortunately I didn't have a pen so I took a photo. TFTC!
We were out on a beautiful winters day to plant trees and noticed this cache. Unfortunately we hadn't brought a writing utensil with us so I've attached a photo of the replacement log.
Following in my usual tradition, I decided to bring up my 11,000th milestone cache on an Island. I noticed that the ferry to Motuihe Island was running this Sunday, so I made a concerted effort on Saturday to find the caches I needed to bring myself as close to this milestone as possible - only needing to find 4 of the 5 caches on the Island to bring it up. It was a lovely Autumn day and a pleasant ferry trip out to the island. I talked to a couple of the volunteers on the wharf and they noticed the GPS so asked about it - they knew about geocaching and knew there were some caches on the Island, they then encouraged me to hide some more on other spots on the island - I had a couple of containers on me, so I obliged with 2 new hides!
This was my third find of the day and was a quick find of the replacement cache here. TFTC!

No luck finding this cache in the obvious spot. Rummaged in my bag & found a container that would be a temporary replacement till CO can check. TFTC
First cache of the day on Motuihe and a DNF. The GPS took us easy to the spot where there should have been one but unfortunately it was acting like a ghost and disappeared.
We had planed a boat trip out to Motuihe Island - to take the father in-law and his brother who was over from South Aftrica - to show them some of the islands out in the harbour. I thought 'there must be some caches out there' and the night before checked and sure enough 5 in total! and whats this..... a cache that was yet to be found! We arrived at the island and made it to shore - finding the other 4 caches first due to their close proximity. I managed to convince the father in-law to head to this one with me to try and hopefully claim the FTF. We made our way to the GZ, and despite there being no hint it was a quick find due to the co-ordinates being spot on and the only real place for it to be hidden. An empty log was found and a DOC / Air NZ giveaway - unfortunately it looks like this has since expired An awesome day caching and topped of with #8FTF.
