Doing the Travers-Sabine Track and to Blue Lake. On the way back up to Angelus Hut.Never done something like this before in my life, so I took food for 10 days, just to be sure I'll come back home. But with so much food, my backpack was quite heavy as well. But I made it and saw some amazong places and found a few caches as well.TFTC#586
Out for a walk with Agazo. Not an immediate find. Agazo moved a rock and I spotted the container.TFTC
Marchwood and I walked along this side of the lake to find a string of caches. TFTC.
And, school holidays have rolled round again. We are up at the lake for a couple of days and Miss B has a walk planned. This is it, up to Whisky Falls. While Miss B and Mrs B did the walk, I played leap frog getting the caches along here, 9 on the way in and 4 on the way out.
Find 10. I had, what I thought was, a good look for this one on the way up to the falls, all the way up the bank so far that when another couple of walkers passed by while I was searching, they couldn't see me. I had even lifted the 'top' rock hiding the container but hadn't poked any further.
On the way back from the falls, after reading many previous logs while having lunch, and managing to get phone reception just a bit before here on the way back, and looking at some photos, it still took quite some minutes to locate it. Turns out the description is still true, no need to leave track. But, it is not really behind anymore, rather under, and under.

We decided to walk to Whiskey falls today. A lovely walk with lots of bird life. We were expecting the track to be longer based on the information from the visitor centre so we were surprised when we read the sign.
Walked straight past this cache on the way in so stopped on the return. We were about 10m out and saw a couple of likely spots but continued on. With nothing looking likely at gz we went back to the likely spot and soon had the cache in hand.

Checked a couple of places before finally laying our hands on this one. Andy did the honours and signed the log while I headed onwards to the next cache. tftc

Aw, legs are starting to tire now and I’m looking forward to finishing.
My GPS was a little erratic here and I could not find anything sensible where I’d zeroed out.
Thankfully a previous finders spoiler image gave me something to look for and I quickly tracked this down after that.
Thanks bumandworker

We spent a bit of time hunting for this one, just when we had just about given up RNZ tried one last spot & SUCCESS!!
A lovely leisurely hike to Whisky Falls today after our excursion up Mt Robert yesterday,. The weather was stunning again & we wanted to take advantage of that We got away a little later than we hoped, but we had plenty of water to combat the heat.

Came across this spot and looks like there is a bit of scree coming through here. Searched around for the cache with no joy. On the way out I tried one last spot and bingo, there was the gkmlb replacement. No issues here then, photo attached as a bit of a spoiler. TFTC B&W.
Second full day at the lake, and it’s another stunner.
After a successful excursion up Mt Robert yesterday, today we decide to tackle the somewhat less vertically challenging lakeside walk to Whisky Falls.
A full day with 13 caches targeted, and all were found. All were in pretty good nick, although we may have added a sliver or two of RITR paper if the logs were a bit damp.
Again, great fun, weather and company and good to see so many people out doing the walk.

Accidently left our pencil in the container, could've been a pain for rest of our Loop the Lake walk, but luckily Mrs MuzzaL carries a pen with her tramping! Tftc
With four (nearly) lakeside caches available this are was our choice for today. We loaded the boat and headed to the lake for a few hours of pre Christmas calm.
I dropped GK off and watched him scramble up the bank and then I watched as he walked back and forth along the track checking and digging around anything that could be the potential hiding spot. After quite some time he admitted defeat and returned to the shore where I picked him up and we carried on to the next one.
While at another cache on the other side of the lake we found a discarded drink bottle, so we searched through the boat and found a piece of paper and a plastic bag and we decided to return here on the way back down the lake and replace what we are fairly sure is a missing cache. GK scrambled back up the bank and placed it as the most obvious place. With no specific found logs in more than three years and a collection of dnf's by some cachers that have found more than us we think the original is a goner. If this is not okay, please feel free to delete our log.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

This one remained elusive today. GZ was at a rock scree area with no major structures. Checked out heaps of places. Good beech tree 20 meters along the track but no go there.
Brought the caravan up to the lake to test out the new towing wheels. I had given hubby 4 choices of walks to do today... 3 required a bit of climbing and 1 was this one to Whiskey falls.
Of course he thought he'd chosen the easy one...but because we walked from the caravan it was still a good 5 hour walk - and on a hot day like today was still quite a challenge.
I gave this a couple of go's but still didn't come up with the goods...will leave it till another day....

I kept walking up and down, re-reading the description, hint, and logs, but to no avail. In spite of trying all places I could think of I walked away empty handed.
Found with NZDi. This weekend is Marlborough Anniversary weekend and after a couple of hectic months stuck around the house, we decided to treat ourselves to an extra long weekend at St Arnaud, so with a successful draw in the RNZAF holiday home ballot we headed to the Nelson Lakes for four nights in another part of the country we call paradise.
Today is also a Dot Day, so getting a cache out of town is always good for that mission and by the end of the day I wont need to worry about the 27th of October until we are going for 13-Days.
Yesterday we cycle-cached some of the Teetotal Flat mountain bike park on our MTBs. Today we 'Looped the Lake' going clockwise and taking 11 hours to complete (including going up to the Travis Swing Bridge).
After a bit of a false start while we had to go back to the house to pick up something NZDi left behind, we finally got onto the track at 8.10am. this was the tenth of twelve caches we picked up today.
As we approached GZ NZDi asked 'How much further?', glancing down at the Garmin, I replied '130 metres'. I should have taken a longer glance at the Garmin because about 130 metres later when she asked 'How much further now?', I responded 250 metres. We had obviously over-run the cache and were getting further away... Bugger'. Retracing our steps added another 10 minutes to the 11 hours we spent on the track today. The cache was a QEF so not much time lost.

The trickest if the 4 caches along hereto access from the lake. Wise decision to leave my PFD and spray skirt with my kayak before scrambling up the bank. Nice easy find, quicker going down on my backside than going up. Thanksfor the cache bumandworker

Having had a day at the Braeburn last week today we came to the west track of Lake Rotoiti. The walk down toward the falls was uneventful but the views were much better walking back north. We walked for about four hours in all collecting caches along the way.
Collected the smiley with no problems.

Off to Rotoiti for a walk or two with capperz today. I had to adjust my speed setting just slightly to avoid seeing him disappear up the track ahead. We picked quite a few that it wasn't and had a bit of a scramble around on the bank without success. Finally I followed the GPS and realised we had over run gz a bit. A quick easy find once the GPS picked the right one.
Thanks bumandworker for the cache.

A pre-planned day out with Kiwi_Explorer was mooted, not muted - with a remote control, and after deliberating a Northbank raid to Poled Route, or a trip to Richmond Hut chasing blank logbooks, we settled on a trip to Rotoiti/St Arnaud for a few caches that neither of us had found previously, no mean feat when either of us have found most in the general vicinity. I also managed to snaffle a cheeky 3 extra caches that K_E had already got, including a 2005 classic in Mossy Moraine that I'd failed to locate the track entrance to, and been constrained by time (and family)
We left a grey and dreary Blenheim around 0800 and managed a couple of nice walks along the edge of Rotoiti and up part of the Red Hills Route. Weather over this way was a pleasant and sunny day with temperatures in the early 20s and not many sandflies in attendance, luckily.
An hour each way walk (and cache finds) was a good estimate for these 4 new caches and the weather played it's part quite nicely too. A lovely track down here and a welcome return for me for first time in nearly 2 years. K_E found all four of these caches whilst I searched (usefully) where they weren't
T F T C b&w, we picked (the right) one

No problem to pick the right spot here as the GPS agreed with our opinions on approach. Recovered well as requested. However, if it had taken a bit longer maybe we would have also checked the next listing and picked this as the turn around point.
Thanks.
Thanks.
A walk to Whisky Falls was on the cards today and an attempt to find the new caches along the way. On approach I though one feature stood out but on closer approach another was even more obvious. TFTC, Biggles.
This made me smile: "pick me, pick me!" a cry often heard in the classroom - - - from the extroverts anyway . On this occasion I was still trying to identify which individual was calling when I realised that my caching companion had the problem sorted. - - - Hmmm an individual that clearly needed to be noticed . TFTC .
I had thought the cache title meant something else and was espousing that fact .. and then of course it could mean here. Pretty obvious really. Sidewaze is very patient about my theorising and just keeps quiet while I prattle on. The main thing is we come away with a smilie and today another shared {*FTF*}. TFTC #9163
