Today i dropped my husband and his good friend at the Gympie races and headed off to collect some smileys. It ended up a great drive around this beautiful country side. All up i found 20 caches over 4 hours and travelled down some interesting roads. Some of the roads were so narrow i wondered what i would do if a car came the opposite way. What a great day to be a geocacher At GZ it was a quick find for me. Thanks for all the fun
We had the opportunity to spend some time exploring the region and were lucky to have perfect winter weather for it. We visited some wonderful sites, enjoyed some spectacular views and discovered some interesting history along the way. A bit of a slippy route up the slope but no problem from there to GZ where the cache was uncovered after a short search. Thanks youngoldfella
The first part up the slope was okay but once it got to the smaller little stones that made it a bit of a slippery accent. Just took a little bit of looking around before spotting the cache . TFTC
youngoldfella I found your cache Glastonberry - Widgee Rd Quarry on 12/4/2024, 10:15AM. This is my find 6552 and find # 2 today. Found it after a brief search. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN

Day 2 of my Fraser Coast and Sunshine Coast trip with my son. It’s our New Year traditions. First three we camp at Kilkivan, this time we stayed in Maryborough to spread our boundaries.
Today’s catching was around Gympie and Widgee.
We cache from Maryborough to Widgee for the event. Then we cache back to Maryborough.
We had lots of fun today. With early start and late finish.
My haul today was 30 finds, the breakdown is 21 traditional, 3 mystery, event and adventure lab with 5 waypoints. Plus 5 FTF.
One of the mystery was a challenge cache I signed about 18 months ago. That was painful to do.

I’ve come up here to try and qualify for a crazy Challenge Cache in Cunnamulla… Forward planning, I’m driving L’DeVine, so hopefully no busted tyres today…
After admiring the erosion I proceeded up to GZ… surprisingly it didn’t take long to recover the cache… tftc…

Twenty seventh cache for the morning. Slowing down found this a bit of hard work to get to.. tftc
Heading west on the tredley i parked up off the highway on the left here and crossed the road for a scramble up the hill.
Then made it a lot harder than it needed to be. All over the shop. Even found a gap where the fence ended and went up further checking every snake hole around.
Was walking down and out defeated when i thought oh what's that, lifted up a rock and there it was.
Gotcha!
Thanks sweet-sour for another cache.

Heading toward home after attending the Mid Year 2021 event & we decided a 'cruise' through Widgee & surrounds was warranted as we seem to have quite a large patch of green dots in the area, on our map.
Well, that will never do!
Collected 26 smilies on the way home so well worth the slight detour.
We raced each other up the hill for this one!
Mrs VC won.
Quick find.
Made our mark & replaced as found.

Visiting Gympie on business and once finished decided to head out and grab a few caches. I ventured out along some great country roads that I hadn't been along in many years.
Once at GZ it was a quick find,
Once the log was signed all was returned as found.

First of many gravel pits for the afternoon, on the way out to Widgee for an exploratory drive.
Found a safe place to park and scrambled up the opposite hill. Many rocks but soon the particular SPORs stood out.
Took yellow plane transformer & beetle badge, left pink clip & Harry Potter ball.

Our last day of caching in Kilkivan. Today we headed out to Widgee and Glastonbury. Another great day, we found all the caches that we looked for. They were all good sized containers which made finding them easy.

Found while staying in the kilkivan area for about a week before heading for the big smoke down south. Having noticed that there was a lot of new caches placed in the area I set about converting some of them to smileys. This is of of the many I have found so far. All were easy find with no maintenance issues. TFTC
Sharing a days caching with Liz and Bruce and wazza9, quick find, signed log and replaced. Thanks to Sweet-Sour
TFTC,
A big day for me with 38 finds for the day. I joined with Nana nel & Liz and Bruce today to start my caching experience in this area.
A great day spent with great people talking, walking, driving and looking into spots many people would not see.

Driving to Kilkivan for the weekend to find some caches in the area. Parked up on the other side of the road before clambering up the bank and cache was soon found. TFTC Sweet-Sour
Logging old caches originally found with alphag_25. Now have my own account and logging them separately so that I can claim the finds.
Hi there Sweet-Sour.
Today's venture had us heading from Gympie to (Upper) Widgee bag a few caches along the road.. All up we found 21 caches & DNF'd 1.
Thanks for placing the cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places while we meander around Australia. Thanks also for not placing an eclipse tin or a 200ml Sistema here. Nowadays it seems like every other cache is small and devoid anything to induce children to enjoy the hunt. It made us feel really good to find this regular sized cache here.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache about 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Rock
Regards
Ian & Penny.

Out with Geopartner today.
Pulled up to this one and I headed to find this cache and it was in the first spot I looked.
It was a lovely day today but rain is needed here also.
There has been burning off along the roads but this cache was ok.
Signed the log and returned the cache to where I found it.

We have set up camp at Chatsworth Park. Todays trip to us out away from the hustle & Bustle of town.
We drove along many winding rural roads. Spttings some of the local animal life. A very pleasant morning out finding many large containers which is quiet unusual nowdays.
A good variety of locations & caches found.

Another nice find and we liked how it wasn’t the first one we looked at for the cache. Tftc
A leg stretch lead to a cache. The Buy A Bale trick went by as we were coming down loaded with hay for the drought affected farmers. God bless them. TFTC
Sunday @ Widgee July Event..on my own today, lonely country rd with speeding locals, very scary. No gps just using my phone with grey map and red line.
Bit of a ditch here to cross over in the fourbie, glad no-one was behind me this time so I could take my time but the FJ Cruiser did it with ease, that was fun..lol. Quick run up the hill to locate the cache...tucked away where muggles wont find it for sure. signed the log added treasure and replaced.... not too many more today I think..its 3.00pm and I have had enough....TFTC sweet-sour

Back out to the main road after a jaunt on the dirt. Still plenty of daylight left, so no need to rush.
If I recall correctly it was a bit of a scramble up to this one. A few options for the hide, but a quick find.

Thirty years ago, New Years Eve was the highlight of the calendar - usually involving the beach, sunburn, a big party, hopefully some midnight smooching with a cute girl before seeing the sunrise on New Years day. How times have changed. Bromance wives were collectively glad to see the back of us (no midnight smooching tonight), so we set upon another road trip collecting caches north west of Brisbane.
On our way to sign in at the Widgee event and stopped to make the grab on this one. Thanks Sweet-Sour

No red carpet parties rubbing shoulders with A listers. No sipping champagne in a ski chalet in the French Alps. Not even a couple of sparklers and a get together with relations you can't stand. Such is the stunted social life of the Bromance on New Years Eve. So instead Swellerfungus, Crookedpete and Seffnjarah decided to pack up the Zoomin' Shroom and head up to Widgee for a day of caching and a night of camping in 5 hollow-star luxury.
The J.E.F.F. App had been busy, drawing up a hit list of caches to collect along the way including this one, which was directly on the way to the event that was our destination. No chance of Swellerfungus turning this one in to a park and grab, but a short, quick dash and we soon had the logbook signed. TFTC

We were heading back to Gympie from the event and this one appeared on the GPS so I pulled over and headed back along the road in the sweltering heat.
I took the hard route to the cache and the easy way back after a quick find.

Drove up from Canberra, for a much needed holiday staying with my parents in Caloundra ... Up here for a few weeks (Christmas, and most of January
My parents didn't have any plans for this weekend/NYE so I figured I would come up for the Geocaching weekend at Widgee ... glad I did - 3 days of fun!
After arriving here yesterday evening, and staying up way too late, I was woken up by the daylight (Sunrise is way earlier than it happens where I come from - lol) I had breakfast and a chat with everyone, and jumped into the powellbruce Geomobile with Sweet-Sour and youngoldfella, and headed for the hills for an adventure
We found the cache they were going up the hill for, and 3 more they stopped for on the way down, and a few more we were going past down the bottom (for me to find, and the CO to check) then we started working our way through the Saturday list of Sweet-Sour's caches he had hidden for the event, and then, because the Sunday list was also published early, we went and found most of those as well - the most first to finds I have ever got in one day - lol
TFTC - and thanks to the others I was with for stopping and waiting while I grabbed this on our way past - nice to grab an older one in between the firsts - lol

Spending a couple of days at the 2017 event at widgee. getting out early to find some of last years caches. Made for an interesting morning when & Co. went and done an ankle roll. but we still managed to get quite a few in for the morning. A beautiful day for caching.TFTC
At first attempt at this ... our new etrex nearly went for a fly out the car window... turns out we were on the wrong bend anyway. Whilst out with Lost_in_transit we grabbed this one 900 metres further down the road than the first time and GPS was accurate, I also ninja swiped through a cobweb followed by a rolled ankle but cache in hand made it worth it, thanks for the smiley!
On our way from Manyung to Glastonbury caching as we travel. Hoping to get to Glastonbury Creek before the rain hits. Don't like this quarry very much, means walking up shaly loose gravel, which on the decline, I am sure I will slide. However, with the help of Mr D, we made it up, made the find, then found our way back down on an easier plane. Thanks Sweet-Sour, we are back in your territory for a few days.
Out and about doing some geocaching before I head home from my short trip home. Was good to see new geocaches around the area.
A quick search had the container in hand in no time.

Up from Brisbane with IolantheK to meet up with Brother Colin and camp for the long weekend at Brooyar [^] Caching and Rock Climbing not a bad combination [^]
Lots of driving on the dirt today around Widgee, Wrattens National Park
Loved the area around the abandon open cut mining at "Large Oasis", wow what a place. We'd continued on south Past "Hill Top" on a less travelled track till we meet up with the Black Snake Rd again, felt a bit like we were lost but we made it back to civilisation again

T-Tech and I are camping for the long weekend at Brooyar with Brother Colin, and today we are going caching. We spent an hour or so touring around Widgee, followed by several hours of 4WDing through Wrattens National Park, collecting 28 caches [^]

A couple of easy finds on the way to the more serious geocaching up in the hills.
A quick find here.

We had passed by this one many times over the weekend, but were always in a rush to get somewhere. Today, we were determined to find it before we left the area. We parked nearby and made our way up to GZ. There, the cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC
Today we are making our way home after a successful 2017 Newbies Event we attended at Widgee. After packing up (causing a late start because of the light rain) we made our way through Kilkiven, and some of the back roads to Nanango and Yarraman before journeying down Brisbane Valley through Ipswich to home. That way we avoided the car park on the Bruce highway with all the holiday traffic going home after the long weekend. Of course, we picked up quite a few geocaches along the way! Selva Girls forms the second in our two-vehicle convoy.
Funny - we passed by this one five times over the weekend on our journeys to and from Gympie. But today, we have made the tome to stop - that's the difference. Up the bank and on to the cache. Easy find.
Log signed & replaced again. Found at 10.20am on 2nd January 2017. TFTC

I was one of many attending the Cache up for Newbies event based at the Widgee Showgrounds for the three days of the New Years weekend. The CO Keith Sweet-Sour certaily had everything in place and the only thing I did not like about the weekend was the number of times we drove up and down Widgee Moutntain Road as it got worse as more traffice went over it, but Hey thats the fun of this obsession. on Friday Sweet-Sour and myself went and placed two 4WD access only hides as I had the right vehicle and then on Satyurday I teamed up with Bruce from Powellbruce and we tackled the 31 remaining together. Bruce lives near Gympie and I live in Nanango and we are about the same distance from the top of the big hill so we will assist the CO in maintaining some of the tougher terrain hides.
We were the lead vehicle in a little 3 vehicle convoy for some hides down in the valley and thankfully away from the mountain top for the moment as Bruce and i had to go back up later to find the multi. Looked and looked and eventually find the log. TFTC Sweet-Sour.

Whilst attending the nearby event cache for Newbies I teamed up with Young old Fella to have a bit of fun trying to find the caches released for this event.
Day 2 few more to find fortunately this lot where down in the low land I had a convoy for this on and a very quick estimate between us we had over 40,000 finds so much so that most of the time we'd left the gps in the car and go a hunting with great success found relatively quickly.
