A quick little overnight trip to Hawkes Bay and then up to Taup and back home to find some Adventure Labs and to hopefully qualify for the S39 Challenge.Took a while before I finally found it about 5m away. All good here, and thank you to funkymunkyzone for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #6708 at 27 April 2024 2:06pm
We found it,but we had no pen hope the people in the future will not be freezing their asses off like we were
Several hunters in here this morning, thankfully no one around as I grabbed this cache. Very cool wind but nice and sunny on this Anzac morning.
Found after a brief search, didn’t see any of the eponymous horses which are an invasive pest. Thanks funkymunkyzone!
Found after a day tramp to Castle Rock with a small group from the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club - a two hour walk from this car park. Thanks fmz for this neatly hidden cache which has good coordinates and was soon found. It was a scenic (and hilly) walk to the rocks.
Last of three caches we located on our way home from holiday today. Took a few moments before we spotted this one. We were both searching but it was Mrs tbird who made the find. My final one for the year, taking my 2022 total up to 1310, a “personal best” after 10 years of geocaching, and a number that very likely I won’t reach again in a given year! #5710. TFTC.
Heading north to the family for Xmas, needed some 1000m+ caches for a challenge. Soon found and signed this one. All good, tftc!
A lot easier to find than expected. Nabbed it before the next downpour. Everything is fine here. TFTC
Nice little find on second part of fresh-air stop during journey from Matamata to the Hutt Valley. Breeze is now very fresh! Mountains are looking lovely today with sun and no cloud.

How many times have we passed by without knowing about the access here ? This is the great thing about geocaching, sharing & showing those places, we might not find otherwise.
Our 4th find for the day. TFTC!

Heading to the south island. Doing some geos on the way. Thought I would get some coming through this area as it's such a cool spot when the weather is great.
Nice easy park & grab. Logbook full so I added another RITR spare sheet. All good here. TFTC
Returning to my SUV I note the front number plate hanging by a single screw and a bit bent. Seems the Tukino road was rougher than I thought. Wasted half an hour of daylight making Heath R. repairs

Freezing cold to stop but we got it! No room on log to write detail so took a photo
With Nanniekerr in the brisk northerly

We stopped at the side of the road and didn't venture along the corridor. I'd be a bit worried about keeping to the designated path anyway. Another quick find here. Thanks .
I heard about this route recently so good to have a means of finding the start today. tftc and a quick find
Not sure if I found a previous iteration of the cache here in the past, no worries with the find today though. Added a couple of TBs to continue their travels - a shell and a skateboard.
I have got a busy few days coming up, and am heading north to the Coromandel peninsula for the weekend with a work holiday home booked for this upcoming long weekend, including stat day on Monday. Then I'm heading home with mrs c for a couple of days leave followed by a couple of days WFH before heading back to Manawatu and my new job at the weekend. Not massive numbers of cache finds but a few to keep things ticking over and a surprising amount by Auckland based COs too! Thanks to all cache owners for their contributions.

On a week long trip up and down the middle part of the North Island. Same weekend as the Mega event in Auckland (but that's not where I ended up). Targeting a few specific caches, and a few others. This is one of them.
Another quick stop here cache all good. TFTC.

A quick stop and wander after the long but very interesting slog to sign but not claim the high altitude challenge. Circled for a couple of minutes before I spotted the right shrub. TFTC.
Stayed in Turangi for the night and now on our way south. Stopped at the start of Tukino access road and got the bike out to stretch the legs. Can now say I cycled some of the dessert road albeit a very short part. No probable finding the cache and log all fine. Thanks funkymonkeyzone for another smiley and another great view of the mountain.
Found this after climbing down from the peak nearby, just outside the training area. Such an amazing place, with a stunning view! TFTC.
Stopped off to find the cache and thought we’d go for a wander along the route. Bit of a slog up the hill but so worth it. Thanks for bringing us here, was a great stop! Cache safe and dry TFTC
Wending my way from Taupo to Feilding today. Collecting a few caches along the Desert Road before the weather turns pear shaped. A short walk trying to keep my big feet off as many struggling plants as I could manage. TFTC
One last look and it was found.
Our trip starts again after being curtailed on day 2 when we went into lockdown (that was an 800+ km day to get back to our respective homes). The trip with LNM1961 (logs signed either with our own names or ‘LE’) continues. We are travelling around the Rua area of the PWGT to collect all of these caches, plus some in the Tahi area. However, we aren’t just focussing on them. We are targeting others - oldies, ones that help us qualify for challenges, ones out of the way (especially on the Desert Road), as well as having fun, exploring NZ and seeing the countryside. TFTC

Found with Nutty Nora. Not really adjacent to the car Park- coordinates are accurate
We were spelling this wrong, so good to see how to spell this after staying a night in the forest park. Going back to the Mainland, caching south with the wagging tails, in Van. Happy New Year, and happy caching TFTC
Grabbed this one while on our way to Auckland with a stop over in the area. A nice day over the desert road today, not like last time in the rain! Thanks CO for the cache.
Myself, ApacheD and my daughter decided to come and camp at the Urchin camp site for the night and get the new nearby caches. In the morning after breakfast we headed of to get a few other caches along state highway 1 between the Urchin campsite and Waiouru found all caches quickly and in good condition. Tftc
Have been checking finds on my aging Montana 650 and have discovered finds from 18 months ago that I hadnt logged before. Found with Tramper Ted. Brought back memories of starting a tramping trip along the defence force boundary about 12 years ago, also with Tramper Ted.
Nice to collect a few caches along the Desert Road. All good, here with Mapper Ted. TFTC
On an annual trip to the Rotoaira area so had to do a few more caches along the Desert Rd

Good find as we were driving down to Napier after staying at the Chateau for our wedding anniversary.
Good day for caching with nice quiet roads.

Due to Covid, our planned UK holiday to attend the MEGA could not proceed so plan B was a timeshare stay in Paihia so we could cache around Northland. Once again this could not proceed as we could not travel through Auckland due to the Level 3 lockdown.
A last minute plan C was put into action and our timeshare week was transferred to Turangi.
Off we went on a sunny but chilly 4 deg morning and its been quite a while since we have seen any frost on the ground so a bit of a novelty for us.
Day 3 on a loop trip around the mountains, perfect weather and very little traffic today, took a bit of searching to locate this one TFTC.

Perfect 2degree autumn morning with a wander to find the right hint object. Never seen so little snow on Ruapehu. And remembering a 5 day tramp from here many years ago to Waipakahi Hut.

Easy find, wonderful view of the grand old lady today, liked the bag! All good. TFTC
Another quick stop - we’ll never get to Wellington at this rate. We soon located this cache and did the admin. TFTC
The view to the three mountains is stunning. Busy road today. Thanks for the hide, great find.
Lots of warning signs, I'm happy to say in my car and keep driving south. Cheers
#7706. We are heading back south to Wellington today after visiting family up north over New Year. I had checked the geocaching map and saw that I had only one park and grab type cache left to pick up on SH1 between Turangi and Hunterville and this was it. So we parked nearby and I raced over to the start of the track to grab the cache. Saw a few likely hiding places as I approached but the GPS took me right up to GZ and there was the nicely hidden cache tucked in under the low bush. All good here. Signed the log and replaced the cache as found. Thanks FMZ for hiding it here.
I try to make a point of grabbing one or two cache finds each time I travel along the Desert Road. It was cold and wet today but I didn't let that stop me. My GPSr was in total agreement with the published coordinates and I was led exactly to where I needed to be.
Thanks funkymunkyzone for placing this cache
Today the weather was much better than average for this alpine plateau, so traipsing to GZ was no problem.
Coords got me to within 2m and cache is in great condition with it's waterproof log
Thanks again!

Found with a sister during our expedition to NZ (from CZ), where we explored part of the North Island and could visit our classmates and friends that we have not seen for several years, as it is here, in Auckland and Napier live ... Thank you for cache ...
A police officer had pulled someone over quite close to GZ but fortunately just out of sight as we didn't want to come to his attention as well. It's the first time we have seen a police officer wearing a beanie on duty.
The cache could have been a bit of a needle in a haystack but the co-ordinates were perfect so we made a quick find. TFTC.

On the way home from Wellington trying not to fall asleep after a big night caching for a FTF
No problems with the find, using the smart phone with Google maps and it's actually remarkably accurate

I planned a geocaching trip with specific targets.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 1 Hamilton to Wellington 31 caches
Find number 4798. I left Hamilton at 6 am and got to Paekakariki at 4 PM. Thank you for the placement.
I wasn't sure about the warning signs but cache well away from them. Nice quick find.

On a geocaching adventure around the country with myself, my car and my tent. Drove almost 4000km and collected 170 caches over a week of roadtripping, camping and seeing the beautiful sights of New Zealand. Lots of fun and so many great caches were found, as well as a lot of DNF's. Apologies for copy paste post. Thank you to all cache owners. Day one driving from Hamilton to Wellington. Really enjoyed these desert road caches. Thank you for the cache
Yeah we found the box and didn't enter the military zone.

A pause in the rain, but I am already soaked, so make my way along the road. Then cut acoss to GZ.
Spotted the hide quickly, and the log was soon being signed. Spotted the car in the distance, so took the direct approach back to the carpark.
No Mountain views today, at least its cool (opposite of hot!) and all the colours are out. The car was parked on the side, again the ground is so wet, I have picked a firm place and choose to walk from there. No time for rescues/tows, so are "choosing wisely", so far so good

Stopped by as we travel south. Quick & easy. Been a long while since using this access route. TFTC!
Having had a nice long break celebrating Xmas and New Years in Auckland, all good things must come to an end. Having to go back to work tomorrow meant that I had to brave the busy roads to do the big drive back home today, but at least I got to break up the journey a bit by stopping to search for some caches along the way.
It's not often that I stop here these days, as I'm usually just keen to push on to get to my destination, but today I decided to take it easier on the roads to help avoid being just another unwanted statistic. It's amazing how very different this looks between Summer and Winter!
This was a reasonably quick park and grab, for which I am grateful. The positioning of the cache is such that it is easy to be discrete even when there are Muggles not so very far away, and the logging etiquette was swiftly taken care of before replacing everything exactly as found and heading back to the car for the final push home.
Thank you for the fun break to my journey.

The Central North Island, Day 4: Taupo - National Park
Today’s weather started of particularly wet but that tapered off a little in the afternoon before a light drizzle returned later on. Oddly enough, I didn’t really need to use a raincoat, just a windbreaker sufficed for most part. Some very unique landscapes along the way, and had a lot of fun exploring the Lake, Desert and Mountains of the region. A surprisingly very productive day for caching, too! A great Christmas Eve all round!
The following are the specific log for each cache:
Another nice and quick stop in the desert. All those danger signs were a little bit troubling, but the compass led me away from them, so that was a relief, and the cache was also a good distance away. TFTC!

Heading towards the Waikato today and had time to hunt out a few caches along the way. I quick find here, I love this area and really enjoy coming here for caches. Signed log, TFTC
Was in Central for work today and I decided that since I was in the area that if I had a chance I would make the effort and go and pick up a few of the caches that were nearby as I have quite a few caches in this area yet to be found.
After finishing work at Ohakune, I decided to check my GPSr and I decided that since the weather was behaving itself I might as well take the opportunity to try and pick up a few of the caches that I have got left on the Desert Road or nearby.
After finding GC6W0Z0 - I'm Beeched As, Bro! (Central Plateau), this was the last cache that I had on my list today that I wanted to find, making my way south on the Desert Road.
Once I got near GZ, I was able to find a safe parking spot on the side of SH1 and from there it was a short and easy walk to GZ, well it was only about 20 metres walk to GZ. Arriving at GZ, I soon spotted something that required a bit more investigation and upon a closer look I soon realised that it was the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks funkymunkyzone for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNSL (13943). I was glad that I didnt have to venture too far off the beaten track to find this cache.
Now it is time to make my way back to the car and make my back to Wellington, I will definitely be back here in the future when time allows to pick up some more of the hundreds of caches that are still left outstanding in this area.

Today was part one of my road trip home to Nelson from Auckland, after picking up my son's "new" car from Napier... with time to find a few caches along the way, of course. Yes, I'd love to do some tramping in the North Island one day... It took a bit longer to find this cache than it should have done. My GPS had me about 6m away but it didn't take too long to track this down. Interesting bones at GZ too. TFTC, Biggles.
Good to be back on the true back country NZ roads. Heading north at end of trip. Good views along this road. TFTC
Think I found one here years ago. Or one similar. Cool wind but Ruapahu and Tongariro showing well. TFTC
A Long journey on our way to the WENZ2018 mega event, travelling down the west cost of the North Island, time in and around Wellington and back north via Taupo, lots of great places seen, lots of caches visited. Many thanks to all the CO's that made finding these caches possible.
Just a quick log to keep finds, TB visits and / or drop offs in order from the Mega road trip. Full log to follow
Travelling down to Wellington Mega so thought we could collect a few odd caches on the way. SLTFTC
WENZ Mega Weekend is almost here... Motoring southward after work with Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy. Our intention is to hold up for the night, in readiness for another assault on the Manawatu.
Thursday: Yes, we have wandered into this lane before... I began to search where the former cache was placed, and quickly learnt that the new one is elsewhere. An odd plastic toy was found enroute to this cache, so it was added into the inventory once the business was complete... TFTC.

On my way to the mega with Squirrel Nutcase and Fap and Gap. Having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and the scenery. It’s what I love about caching - great company and visiting great places. Thanks to all the COs for all their caches Hopefully we see some of them at the mega this weekend TFTC
I have never seen a Kaimanawa horse as I pass through. I think I've seen an army vehicle once but I always keep my eyes open. An easy find, thanks
I helped find this cache on our North Island family holiday. We went to some museums, visited friends and family, did some walks and found some interesting caches.
I had a good time travelling all over the North Island finding caches. It was nice to find some different types of caches/hides from what I'm used to. Thanks to all the COs for setting them up.
This was our last week of our epic three week North Island road trip to visit family and friends as well as find a few geocaches and visit some interesting locations.
Our goal for the day was to get to Waiouru and visit the Army Museum before continuing onto Palmerston North for the night. Certainly not a day for caching but I couldn't drive by without grabbing at least one cache more than 1,000 metres above sea level. This was the one a choose though I seriously wanted to give up as the cellphone although it had good coverage continued to show a distance between 20 to 30metres unrelated in any way with how much I moved around or in which direction I headed. The weather wasn't the best but thankfully husband was more persistant than I and he ended up with the boys helping him too.
They got the phone to narrow the search area down but were struggling to remember what the hint object looks like. We actually have some in our garden. So I got out of the car again and said look that one there is the best example look for one like this one. Oh there's the cache.
So yes we did find it in the end but I'm even more detirmend now not to forget to load the caches the night before onto my GPSr!
Thanks for the cache, it certainly is a wild place to visit.

trip up north to grab some caches, great weather and some great hides, thanks for the placement
Travelling home from a reunion in rotorua i persuaded hubby to stop for at least 3 caches and this seemed a quick easy cache so it was one of the chosen few.
i found the earlier cache here so i wanted to locate this one also. the hint is so revealing as along as you know what a hebe is and how it is diff. so the cache was soon in hand and replaced as i realised that the two vans of trampers were from whanganui and included a friend from there so she was very interested in the fact that a cache was nearby! Thank you for this cache and another smiley face.
