After today's pre-MEGA meet&greet coffee event in Palmy, TwigNZ and I headed over to Marton to find the Earth Cache that the Capperz published today.Having found all the caches around the reservoir, we're now passing through Marton in search of caches, and a cafe to quell our carb and coffee cravings. Cache took a while to locate which is exactly why this cache has so many FPs, and why I'm giving it another
Performed maintenance on this so all good again. If anyone wishes to adopt this cache please message me. We moved from the area so future maintenance will be difficult
Cool spot but pretty much destroyed! Good thing I forgot my pen anyway.
Thanks Wobbie for the cache. Its #1905 for us. We found your cache on Thursday 21 March 2024. Gosh you made us work for that one. Log needs replacing please CO. Couldnt sign but photo explains why.
Very clever! Needs attention, though - very waterlogged and damaged, as previously stated. Found with TrueMurphs. TFTC
2nd look, found it straight away, GPS spot on today, too dishevelled from being wet/dry over time to unfold and sign, photo taken if needed to prove the find
Unfortunately we did not find it, had quite an intensive search but to no avail
Found on our second visit. We parked our car at the same time as a woman getting out to take her dog for a walk. She soon asked “Are you looking for something?” Yes we said, a geocache. She laughed and said she could take us to it. She must be the “angel” that has helped others. We walked together to GZ and she pointed to the cleverly hidden log book which I had missed on my previous visit. Just managed to sign the soggy log book which is very full. Maintenance is needed as the log book has no protection. Glad to collect this smiley, thanks Wobbie.
So needs a new log sheet definitely !! Quinella with me but it was the magic muggle passing by that said ‘could it be this ‘??? Hahahaaha- tftc
Always the way ….grrrr…this time from old logs knew what to look for …,so working our way along the structure when we had to explain the game to a muggle who within seconds retrieved the cache asking “is this it “!!!!!!. Needs a new log and tube to contain.
Nice hide

Another fail here!
Two of us looked for 10min using logs for any veiled info…no luck .

After doing the ad lab nearby had a hunt for this one. Found after a bit of searching. Tftc
Did the ad lab nearby. Lucky no one took any notice of us so could have a good look & eventually we found it. Tftc
After a very good search my husband found it you definitely need a good eye for spotting things that look unusual..
Went back 2nd time, can’t find log so either really well hidden or has been moved
Thanks for the very interesting and historical cache description. I would like to say that I ran a lap or two but I'm so unfit that I'd only be able to manage a few metres. Very nice hide here. TFTC # 18,635
Full day of caching with with Infoferret and BFG. Signed all logs today as BIC. Nice hide at an interesting location. Pity it's a little run down. Gets a FP from me. Thanks for the cache.
I enjoyed a few hours in the Rangitikei area today finding a few caches. Reading some previous logs while I walked to GZ I was expecting this to maybe take a while, but it didn't take me long at all to track it down. TFTC
Spring is only a few weeks away and we are at the start of yet another new month (seriously, how fast is this year zipping by???). I normally like to try and get a good caching outing in early in any month to take the pressure off my own desire to find 50 caches each month, so jumped at the chance to create our own pod with Haydn.seek and deltatea. We managed to cover a lot of ground and end up with no DNFs which is always a bonus. My personal haul was 35 for the day.
The weather looked like it would threaten us with rain all day long, but we were very lucky for most of the day with only a few passing light showers - until we got to the Tutaenui Reservoir where we managed to get seriously wet. But that was towards the end of our day so didn't spoil our caching at all.
Believe it or not, I've never actually been to Marton before in all my years (over 30) of visiting and living in NZ. I was glad to be able to put that right today.
In spite of one of our party having found this cache previously, she could not remember anything about it so all 3 of us ended up looking for it in earnest. I have to admit that I had pretty much given up by the time that deltatea made the discovery. Very nicely done indeed, and worthy of a FP just for the sneakiness!
Thanks for setting up the this cache

Our last cache before going out to the reservoir. GZ had us scratching our heads though especially with the previous entry a DNF. I remembered the advice of another cacher about LOOKING and sure enough I found something suspicious. Further investigation and the cache was soon in hand. Tftc.
Only one missed in Marton.
Not sure what I was missing.
One possibility wouldn’t budge so am pretty sure that wasn’t the hide.
Saw some old graffiti saying “couldn’t find the cache” which added some humour!
Thanks

The last one for me to find in Marton as I completed my mini mission. I almost give up but thinking carefully and looking around the environment I came to the conclusion that my first guess was right and I needed to apply some energy to the task - success!! FP

A nice little drive through Martin to collect this cache, park is a little tucked away but well signposted. A bit of a stroll from where we parked to the cache. The very clever camo had us going for a few minutes and then we saw something that turned out to be what we were after. Nicely done and worth a favourite point. TFTC

Have been saving this nearest unfound cache for 'another time', but with a souvenir up for grabs today it was too tempting and pretty much en route to the recycling centre. I parked up at the end of one of the access points and headed around the edge of the enclosure as the distance counted down to GZ. Initially O checked the right side for too long, and when I expanded and was left satisfied all was good. Nice hide style here, well executed.

Took a while but we found it. Needed to as is my number700. Have been to park many times for Country Music Festivals. Clever hide. TFC
Thanks for your amazing cache. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches.
Found with Fisha1288
Nice camo and earns a favorite

That was nuts! Our 2nd find ever and we are feeling v proud We didn't know this park was here and we've just moved to the area so very happy TFTP Note is safe and dry and put back nicely where found.
Find number 7755. My daughter is doing the Te Araroa trail And I have been a support person for a few days as she paddled the Whanganui [I was the other in the canoe] and cycled from Pipiriki to Whanganui. A 7pm crossing of the river at Koitiata where I met her and we camped for the night. An early start as she set off to walk to Bulls and I cached my way back to Hamilton. Doing just specific caches.
The cycledrome looks a bit tired but the cache was not. Found after a short search. Thank you for the placement.

Took quite a bit of searching. And a hint from a fellow cacher. Turned out i was right all along, in a way. Thanks for bringing us here.
11.45am. This took a bit of a search. Others had found it so I wasn't going to give up. I guess after about ten minutes back and forth i finally spotted it. A favourite point from me.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
Missed this one on previous visits to Marton. Not DNF, just didn't see it on the map. Clever hide but easy find today while walking Maggie the geohound. She enjoyed her runnies although we nearly got muggled by a pack of mates out for walkies.
TFTC Good one.

This one had us walking in circles for a good 20 minutes awesome camo everything in good order tftc favoutie for us.
3 July 2021 14:05. This one took me a while to find, but worth it when I did! FP for creativity and bringing me to a forgotten place. TFTC
Found it after coming up empty handed the first time, the second time took us about 10 minutes to finally realise very clever hide
(# 6681). A trip to Marton and Hunterville to grab some caches. Left early as the weather was meant to turn bad in the late morning. So much for weather forecasts as it remained partly cloudy and dry all day. Noticed something a little unusual and it turned out to be a nicely concealed hide. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here.
In marton for breakfast thought we'd stop and grab this..Cool idea! Found with cmariee tftc!
Sneaky sneaky, but nicely done. I've come over to Marton for the night before heading to the 4x4 Extreme event tomorrow as a spectator. I had to get at least one find while I am in the area. Such a shame to see assets like this falling into disrepair, but I could almost see and hear the action from when this place was in its heyday. TFTC here Wobbie.
We were hunting with the leigh family and it took us awhile to work this one out
got to gz and had a look, nothing, then while feeling around through cobwebs i noticed something that didnt quite work for the area, nice hide, tftc
We’re staying a couple of nights at the NZMCA park in Marton. I biked to this cache yesterday and spent 20 mins or more looking for it. That included reading many of the past logs to give me an idea of what to look for. In the end I came away empty-handed, having convinced myself I’d almost run out of places to look!
This afternoon I took Mrs tbird with me to have a further look. I figured it would be better to knock this one off, even if she was the one who spotted it, than to leave the area wondering where on earth it could possibly be! And that’s exactly what happened. Within three minutes of arriving at GZ, she had located the goods! I still don’t know how I had overlooked it, having done a “comprehensive search” the day before. It really shouldn’t have been that difficult! #3835. TFTC.

I enjoyed reading up about this cache before we left home. Here from Taranaki for the day visiting/caching in Marton for the first time in our lives my hubby and I both think. Awesome hide. Took a little twisting and turning and poking and prodding and he finally had it. FP because my muggle hubby found it and was chuffed with himself. See I knew I’d convince him one day.....
A shame the grounds aren’t used anymore. Thanks for bringing us here.

I was in Marton doing some shopping on this hot and humid evening and naturally decided to grab the two caches I didn't have.
This was the first of the two caches and once the GPS showed it wasn't where I thought I headed to the correct spot however as it is quite a good hide and not what I had expected it took a bit of back and forth before I found it where I started.

Had an evening off work so headed off to find the remaining caches in Marton that were outstanding. Enjoyed a short walk and a great cache. Happy to add to the favourites. Thanks for the smiley.
Making my way back home from Wanganui (to Wellington) today and collecting a few caches along the way. This was one of them. Took a while to track this one down as I was looking in the wrong place at first and then had to wait for the dog walkers to pass by. Great camo here. TFTC
#8859. I am heading north and stopping overnight in Ohakune. Decided to pick up a few caches in the Bulls and Marton area on the way north. It was interesting to read the history associated with this park. While I had not heard of Sir James Wilson before, I had heard of his son Major R.A. Wilson, a prominent New Zealand ornithologist and naturalist. I have a copy of his book "Bird Islands of New Zealand". So great to see the family connections to Marton. The cache took a bit to find as I had the wrong idea of what to look for. In fact I touched the cache without recognising it even though my first geocache was one of these!! Once I got my mind thinking more laterally I soon realised where the container was. The logbook was dry. Signed it and replaced as found. Thanks Wobbie for hiding it here. Favourite for the history and nicely camoed cache.
Have seen this kind of clever hide before otherwise would have easily overlooked it!

Yay my husband and I found our very first one. Starting a bit late on the trend but hey
A bit of perseverance was needed here, and a quick read of some earlier logs - then we widened the search area and came upon something unexpected TFTC
Needed a old head to just keep on searching until found thanks Wobbie good hide TFTC
After 4 attempts i finally found my first cache. Yay..was difficult for a newbie, but super stoked i found it. Signed log n put back.

This was our first time geocaching and we had no idea what we were looking for, tried for over an hour before giving up. We had fun looking and thought maybe it wasnt here anymore, but after looking at other reviews realised its not an easy find lol. This made us feel better, will try again another time.
Another DNF avenged! When we first tried finding this we were quite new to geocaching.
Finally made it back to Marton this morning and this was the first cache we headed too. Armed with a bit more knowledge and forward thinking we had a fair idea what we were looking for.
After a quick search we soon had the log in hand. Very creative cache. It’s no wonder we didn’t find it the first time around!

No luck for me here today. There were a few Tuis sitting in the trees nearby that I got to listen to while searching, kids also enjoyed playing at the park so it wasn’t completely wasted. Very elusive so far but I’ll be back to have another go when I have more time.
Crafty!!! Proving difficult when along came a fellow cacher walking his dog and after a little encouragement this wicked wee one was in hand! TFTC, fav from us
Here for the music festival. Where would I put it? Yep, great hide and doable with lots of activity.

In Marton for a meeting, staying in the camper and doing some geocaching. This one took us a very long time and we were about to give up, convinced it was gone, when Mrs S touched something and thought, hello, what's this then. Very clever hide. Have a FAV.
Thanks Wobbie

Yeah! Found it.
Much nicer day to search, sun shinning, lamb bleating and daffodils waving in the breeze.

Spent a rainy, icy 1/2 hour searching but unable to put my hands in it. Will have to come back
