Today I require two caches to bring my calendar daily cache count to 6, so I thought I'd pop out to Turakina Valley Road to hunt out some lonely geocaches. This was on the way to Sutherland's reserve. No trouble here, although the cache was buried in, and covered in mud. All fine with drying off the damp log and adding my moniker. 166 days between finds.
Enjoying a drive along Turakina Valley Road and took the short detour to this one. Two of us spent some time hunting but unfortunately without success.
Another find out in the country on our way to Wanganui.FINALLY, and with humble apologies for being so late, I am catching up on my logging.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache mjmnz.
It's an event weekend, with one in Levin on Saturday, and another the next day in Wanganui. Somone had mentioned a cache called "Survivor" with an unusual DT rating and interesting exercise in retrieval. Which it indeed was. After that we rejoined the left-behind cars at shemozzle huntaway. Some returned the way they came, and some of us (me included) continued on our long way to Wanganui.Another stop off hbere. I parked on the wrong end of the bridge and walked across and started the hunt and was soon caught up with NZ_B and TwigNZ. Must have been a bit of a tricky hide, as TwigNZ found the cache after both NZ_B and I had both searched that spot!
Having enjoyed a very convivial gathering to (prematurely) welcome the start of summer in Levin, my plans had been to then head up to Wanganui in preparation for attending the Rattll BBQ there tomorrow. But a few days ago my plans got a bit modified thanks to Yeti suggesting that I might like to do GC6X4ZM Survivor. Once I had taken a look at that cache page I knew I just had to do it which was handy for a few other folk who felt they had nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon that watch some crazy bloke walk out over water lol.Still swimming in the elation of successfully completing that cache, our convoy of 9 people had all now gone their separate ways, with a few of us now making our way towards Wanganui where we intended to stay for the night ahead of going to the Rattll BBQ the next day. Even though NZ_B and I were in our own cars, we were still driving in tandem. We rounded a corner to spot 2 of the other members of Team Survivor in the middle of the road, right where we were going to stop anyway. They hadn't found it, so we joined in the search and after about 5 minutes I was able to find it in a sensible location. I soon added the names of the 4 of us into the log before replacing it all back as found. Thanks for setting this one up
So this was one of those classic experiences in so many ways and clearly well named. Earlier Team Survivor had met further down the road, it survived Survivor and a few more besides and then split up. I needed to head direct into Wangers to meet up with someone - I had some cars ahead of me and some behind. Well I came around the road to find theSeagnoid standing on it (this is what cachers do on rural roads). I had not downloaded these caches and was sort of making a beeline to home for the night - but what does one do - when one sees a fellow cacher standing there bewildered? One must stop of course - especially if they can show them up and walk straight to the cache - turns out someone else got that honour. After having helped look for a bit TwigNZ and NZ_B turn up. Well TwigNZ got the "its over here" award (and smug grin) in a place we had both looked. Reward is all yours sir - now I need to head on. A crowd of spectators behind me. TFTC mjmnz.

Another quick shemozzle cache find, just as well as the clouds are threatening rain, with light spits starting to fall. TFTC

On our previous visit here, we decided the cache was missing, and we replaced it as we didn't expect to return to this area. Some time later, capperz found the original, adding our name to the log, and removing our replacement. As it turned out, we were unable to access the other Shemozzle caches on that trip due to a closed road, so as we had to return the area anyway, we called in to legitimise our find of the cache, which was a quick easy find this time. TFTC
Having DNF’d this one last year, I was interested to watch as it was first replaced, and then re-found and reconciled. Knowing that it was there gave me the incentive to make the fun drive out here on one of my regular trips to Wanganui.
As always, it was all quiet at the cache location (no shemozzling going on) and having been here before I didn’t bother with the GPS I just went to the start of what I knew the search area to be, and there was the cache waiting for me. I am so sure I looked there last time that I almost suspect it must have temporarily disappeared into some sort of space-time vortex. Anyway, all good here. Thanks to all involved in keeping this one alive.

Soon at this end of this route cache before retracing my route a little and heading to the last cache. Parked close by and admired the awesome looking poo, down below, looks quite trouty to say the least. Checked where the cache would likely be and found the replacement cache and signed and replaced. Checked where I thought it might have been prior and was surprised to find the original so signed that one, added WEKA's name and removed their replacement from the scene. The original film container is back on place and ready to find.
A couple of options on the table for today on this our first full weekend living back in the region. With mrs c having her first day at work today, I'd toyed with the idea of heading to drop her off then cache in and around the Ashhurst and/or Pohangina area. Or, I could get on with the 'last' of the box unpacking, some gardening and other tidying the section tasks. I had a few nearish caches on the back roads between Hunterville and Turakina valley which were appealing and they won out. After a few hours of gardening and stuff I headed out for a couple of hours and then back home for some more stuff. Thanks to the COs for their caches. It was good to be back into the back-road environment of this region, and a couple of quiet reserves in the back-blocks.

We too were unable to find anything here. Given the remote location, we decided to put a replacement cache in place, to save both ourselves and the owner a further long trip. We will advise the owner of the exact location, and have taken the liberty of logging a find. The replacement cache is a silver taped Berocca tube. TFTC
Cruising though some back roads today and stopping for caches where I could. Sadly I had no luck finding a cache here. Not sure if it's missing or I just couldn't find it, but id di have a good look around.
13 December 2020 4:14 PM. Driving around the back blocks to see what is here. Impressive cliffs! Found where I expected it to be, tftc. Photo of log, not been signed in a while...
My son and I decided to venture out today in the hopes of finding a tricky little cache that had gone missing the last time I looked. We looked at the map and decided to hit the back roads from Whanganui to Hunterville at the same time as there were a few caches that hadn’t been found in a while.
It turns out we found this one last time we were up here but ended up logging it under “the sheep”. Went past the sheep today and signed log so we’ve now found both - albeit in a backwards order. TFTC!

Had an evening off work and headed up the Turakino valley road to Hunterville for some smileys. Lovely back country road with several bush reserves that most people would drive straight past. That’s the beauty of caching. You get to stop and explore places. Cache all fine here. Looks like a great place for a swim in the summer. Thanks
A lovely drive exploring on Labour day. A slight detour to a beautiful quiet spot...cache soon located. Tftc
On our way to Wanganui and around the Naki coast for a few days in the Geocamper. Mrs S finally got this one while Mr S turned the geocamper around. She was beginning to wonder just where it was. Finally cache sense kicked in and the cache was in hand. Still blowing and still cold. ️
Thanks mjmnz.
Thanks mjmnz.

Road trip to Manawatu this weekend.
Started out with four of us going then someone bailed a few hours before we were due to leave.
Collected NZ Flossy, arrived in Rotorua to collect the Squirrel who had misread info, thinking we were going for the day only so quick change, more clothes gathered and off south we went.
Plan was to start about Waiouru and see how far we could get before stopping for the night.
We travelled roads that none of us had being on before. Lots of different caches, some that hadn't been found for over a year and a couple that had DNF's but we found and even one that we had to turn into Spiderman to collect.
Great first day and stopped in Marton for the night which is an interesting town. SLTFTC

On a road trip with squirrel nutcase and Gap of Fap and Gap travelling down south to Hunterville and saying in Marton. I have not been down this way for a long time and usually it was always just passing through. This time it was good to take the time to see the amazing scenery and collect some caches as well.
Glad we brought the torches and good to make the find as it is pretty dark. TFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), and NZFlossy... Heading South and hoping to get a big jump on the Mythical Creatures souvenirs.
There had been some talk of a mission into the Manawatu-Wanganui Region during the week. I hadn't paid much attention to any of the planning conversations, and only discovered this morning that this was going to be an overnight trip. I had to hurriedly pack a few things... The beauty of travelling a long distance is that you can spend a lot of time chatting... that definitely helps to pass the time away. The problem for us is that we have cleared most of the driving route of caches, so our first stop was in Waiouru - 2.5 hours away from home...
A surprisingly quick find considering the darkness and the fairly nondescript ground zone location. TFTC.

Needing 27 caches to get to 250 for March to qualify for a puzzle cache in Wairarapa I was on a mission. Combo that with a dot day everyday except Monday for the rest of March to complete my finds for March. Hubby decided to go on a working bee planting grasses at the blokarting track before offical karting started so I rounded up mum (CNAH) and we were on the road at 9.45am. Rain forecast for this arvo so had to get cracking.
We went straight to this so we got lucky. Very peaceful here with no one around. We called this our last for the day and headed back to Hunterville for a late (3pm) lunch lol. We did end up stopping for one in a short bushwalk on the way back lol. We always do the "just one more" lol. TFTC

We headed up to Hunterville this morning mainly to collect the Shepherds' Shemozzle series of caches and a few extras. Then a quiet lunch at the nice little cafe back in Hunterville and return home.
Well that was the plan - but what a shemozzle we turned it into! First, unbeknown to both of us, Mr G had brought up on the GPSr the last shemozzle cache on our route instead of the first, and then we missed turning off Otango Rd onto Mangahoe Rd.
The distance mounted up to our puzzlement until we reached an intersection we shouldn't have - too far north with the nearest cache being RC Bruce Memorial Reserve! We hadn't planned to go there but, having realised we needed to head back that way, we thought we might as well take that route.
The cache page says it's a hidden reserve - well it was - we missed it all together! The likely entrance had no sign indicating the reserve, but one stating it was a private road. So we continued on, eventually realising we were leaving the cache far behind us (a later check on google street view seems to show we were right, but why is the entrance unmarked and seemingly entry barred?).
Now, to get to the nearest shemozzle cache, we had a long, winding, narrow and very dusty gravel road to travel. So by the time we reached our first cache our quiet, gentle caching morning had turned into a very hot and bothered afternoon! At least from then on we found every cache we wanted, bar one.
Here we were not troubled by spectators - only the odd vehicle passed by. We had to search about a while as the co-ords put us out a few metres and the hint was a bit vague. Nevertheless, it was great to finally claim a find after the shemozzle our day had been to that point. TFTC

I had never heard of the Shermozzle before - wow, what a fun event for the community. T4tc
This was a great series of caches which certainly broke up our trip to Turangi. Stuck to all the caches along the road as we knew that time would get the better of us in the end. Great place for a cache. Thanks
Out and about with Scoria today doing some caches out here in the Hunterville area. We have now sign the log book and it is now time to move no up the road towards the next cache
Thanks for the cache

Just been out at strachan's cave and now nipping out to hunterville to bick up the smemozzle series along the way.
This was a really relaxing find on a hot summers day, with the soothing sounds of the river rambling under the bridge.

Spent the morning continuing with the never ending decorating - this time washing down the walls to prep them for painting. Since it was such a lovely day, I had had enough of this carry on by lunchtime so decided to dedicate the afternoon to caching instead.
Decided to head up to hunterville for the newish caches there and then over to wanganui for the afternoon.
Another quick find here today and on to the next one. Tftc

We saw these ones come out the other day and a fellow cacher said why don't we go out there and get some caches so Friday after work was the plan the day was beautiful but we ran out of time to get this cache so decided to come back with Marissa & Kaleb and get this cache, co ordinates were playing games today and our geosenses were obviously half asleep but we found it where we thought it would be in the first place but obviously didn't see it straight away. signed the log and placed it back where we found it. Thank you for placing caches out here even though I do get car sick on these windy roads. TFTC
thanks for taking the time to place these out here the weather is on our side today, we have had rain clouds around us most of the day but they have been holding off. thanks for the placement.
Saw the Shemozzle series go live and thought I would have tea, see if they had been snaffled then go from there. Raining at home so undecided. As it turned out, wandered up the back way to Hunterville and got to GZ. No rain here but was not an issue as it was a quick find. SL and left as found. Thanks for the {*FTF*} and the placement mjmnz.
