Here in the land of the king white cloud to attend the mega in Dunedin. Many thanks to all those involved in the organisation! Today we targeted some of the DT puzzles plus a few unusual caches as extras. Much better weather and some scary roads . Travelling and caching as a group Qld+1. Cheers

28-Oct-24
Finishing up Mega (GEO TOROA) weekend with a handful of caches up waipori way, Ive been up here over four times in just over a month with the DT series but there was never enough time to log these caches so today was that day while there was time T4TC

27-Oct-24
This is day four of my Dunedin Mega trip (and IS the actual date of the mega, despite some previous logs to the contrary), the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets.Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Doing a loop with barefootguru, CrystalFairy and GreenGecko. Logs signed as BBCG.All good here, and thank you to katie w for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7329 at 27 October 2024 2:59pm

Our second long day of the Mega weekend with geofriends from QLD and one from NSW. We had two more friends join us for a couple of days, so our fun group consisted of Bluewattle, chamad, Wollaston, Willis007, kolour, Ardom, Gcoven, BenM70, and all logs were signed as QLD+1.Although the weather was still rather chilly and overcast at times, we all enjoyed the beautiful scenery everywhere we ventured. The majority of caches found were in great condition, easy to find, and a credit to all the CO's that placed them for the benefit of the geocaching community.Apologies for the generic logs, as I rarely log them whilst travelling around the countryside and tend to do them once back at home.

Day 4 of my 6 day trip to Dunedin to attend the Mega and clean up all the puzzle caches solved over the last few years.Todays journey took us to the Mega to meet up with a few cachers and then hit the BT81 series before heading back to Dunedin. Thanks for all the puzzles, caches, find, frustration and enjoyment.Spent the day with BFG, Bruzie and GreenGecko1. Logged at combinations of BBGC.Co-ords out quite a bit but Bruzie found it.

Day 3 of our Dunedin Mega visit. Teamed up with gonefishing for a most enjoyable weekend. Some logs were signed with our separate names, some were signed 'Team bogo' to save space. Today we're heading to Lake Mahinerangi. Enjoyed being out in the countryside. Thanks to everyone involved for putting on a great Mega Event, and also to all the local Cache Owners for placing and maintaining all their caches.Cheers and TFTC

Outnabout with Chamad, Snickersallan, Ardom & Bluewattle on my first ever trip across the ditch. Log signed as QLD+1 to save some space. After a week of caching around Brisbane and at events last month with other Geo friends, I couldnt pass up the opportunity to hop on board for a NZ Mega adventure. Another great day for caching. TFTC katie w

Down in Dunedin for the Mega. Great to be back for another Mega 12 years after NZ's first Mega here in 2012. Finding a few caches with Boxhill and having a few laughs on the way. Today signing some logs as Team BOGO or our individual names. Thanks to the team for putting on a great Mega weekend, and also to all the COs for placing and maintaining the caches.TFTC katie w

A creative cache! Thanks. #10693

19-Jul-24
A busy Term break so only one day available for caching. Ive always wanted to visit a wind farm so combing this interest and geocaching made for an exciting day trip from Dunedin. After a coffee and scone at Lawrence it was off up into the hills on a blue sky, crisp winters morning. Luckily we had saved the cache information for this area before departing. Log book dripping wet but waterproof paper means it is still signable and intact. TFTCFind count: 2613

13-Mar-24
Took some searching but I got it. Log soaked in water but able to be wiped / dried and used.

13-Aug-23
My lovely SO offered to take me out for a drive somewhere so I said how about over to Lake Mahinerangi, haven't been that way for years - he didn't need to guess my geocaching ulterior motive.
Nice unique cache holder. Cold wind biting so glad for a quick find and back to warm truck. Great view of the lake from here. Tftc.

11-Aug-23
A quick find. I like the use of the cache holder. Fp given.

23-Apr-23
Found it. Great find.

22-Apr-23
Excellent title for this one. Unfortunately it was completely full of water and although I attempted to dry it out, my signature is barely there. Needs some TLC.

22-Apr-23
This was submerged and could probably do with some attention. Difficult to write on.

#10,434. I did a bit of a diversion on my way to Invercargill from Dunedin. Yes its the road less travelled to reach that wondrous southern centre of hospitality and sophistication. The lure of some challenge caches and a virtual or 2 pulled me away from the mainstream. Its extremely windy up here today but very warm and sunny. I am from Wellington and even by our standards this wind is up there in the blasting stakes. Hold on to your hats!! Parked close by and made sure the door was not ripped off its hinges. Quick search and yep there is some low level insulation. Signed the logbook and replaced the container where found. Thanks katie w for hiding it here.

19-Nov-21

Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 8 of our extended Easter break, today we are travelling from Clyde to Dunedin via Lake Mahinerangi on a beautiful Anzac day.
The route to Dunedin was easily chosen as there was a series of caches to find in this direction. I stayed in the car, being the driver, while SW hopped out to make the find. TFTC.

.We are finally at Lake Mahinerangi but its dark so its night cacheing from here on. Thankfully a quick snag and tag here. Cheers

Its Wednesday 24 April and we are off exploring Milburn, Lawrence and Lake Mahinerangi today. Awesome!!

Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

24-Apr-19
Nice container!

Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

20-Apr-19
A quick and easy find. Cheers

Easter holidays, and a road trip to Milford Sound. Today we drove from Dunedin to Invercargill with lovely weather most of the day till we reached the south coast.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

I've only been to Lake Mahinerangi once in my geocaching days, nearly 5 years ago - I remeber it was fairly cold (6/2014). Today I realised the inaccuracy of my fuel gauge and was somewhat anxious about running out before I got home - so decided to go via Highway 87 to Outram - not sure if that way was quicker or not ! This was my last cache of an otherwise enjoyable day.
Thanks for this and your other caches which I have enjoped, katie w.

WhTs not to love about a caching trip combined with downsouthinv having to deliver parts for work.
Any excuse is a good one, and time to head off the main road into the wilderness to find us some caches.
Had to resort to help (the CO saw us fumbling around),to locate it.
Great to meet you KatieW

There was no excuse not to, quickly chucked clothes on dragged her outta bed raced into work, got parts, and on the road before 8am.
As we drove, the voice from the passenger seat, piped up and said ' look at all these, aren't we going near here?'
Oooh Goody!! Now it's a fun work trip, might be a long day!!!

A quick find while exploring the local area, TFTC all in good order

30-Jan-18
Found with TregearP on a visit back up through the Waipori Gorge. We mountain biked through here in one of the Gold Fields Classic events in the early 2000's.

A little less arduous in a car this time - but very hot in the current heat wave.

All in good order. Signed log and replaced as found.

Thanks for the cache.

An interesting container but one that fits the title so well. Log is good and we rehid as found. Found with AorakiSheep

18-Nov-17
Like jrb5050 we had an audience of cows watching closely what we were doing but unlike jrb5050 we found the log easily. Found with debsnz

04-Nov-17
I thought I had found the cache container, but couldn't spot a logbook. I'll send a photo to the CO to check that I was in the right spot. Funniest thing was that I was so busy trying to work out whether a log book had been inserted, could be inserted.... that I didn't notice until I looked up that quite a large audience had turned up to watch what I was doing. Funny!

21-Oct-17
After an early start this morning and then a flight from Auckland we were really looking forward to a weekend of caching in our old stomping ground.
Great views from GZ, coords were out a bit for us and unfortunately we had difficulty accessing the log as it had been jammed in the wrong way, got there with help from some TOTT, TFTC.

15-Oct-17
Took a short search to find the aptly named cache holder. TFTC

13-Oct-17
Quick find, with an interesting cache container which fitted in well with the cache name Thanks for the cache katie w Pipedream

21-Jun-17
From the name I had a pretty good idea of what I would be looking for. I didn't realise that they were as large as that though.

22-Apr-17
Yep, I've worked out whats causing the noises - there is a bull about 5 meters away in the paddock. please don't decide to run at me... I don't think the fence will stop you...
I'm on a 5 day caching trip in the south island. Have a few aims - right now its to up a few specific caches that I need to complete my grid for a challenge - and find some interesting caches on the way Smile 1800km later I can say I've accomplished my aim!

15-Apr-17
I was walking towards the GZ when a car towing a boat arrived and stopped, a woman hopped out and walked towards me. Turned out she was going to open the gate beside me... oh, do you know...? Yes, turned out she was visiting. So I explained what I was doing and, after checking all sides of some knee-level insulation, eventually found and signed off the goods. Then who should arrive but the CO, a trifle flustered after being stalked by a local hunk of bull...? Quite a lively place, Mahinerangi!

Kia ora for the cache. Found with Lollipopcat and Spydude13.

17-Dec-16
Great ride out via George King Memorial Drive (so I could do some maintenance on one of my own caches) and then over to Mahinerangi. Utterly gorgeous morning. I had a fair idea what I was looking for but at GZ there one or two "live" examples of these things on the fence. Could be a trap for young players! Found what I was looking for but no log! Soon found that the log and pencil had fallen out and were still in the hiding place. All good. TFTC.

07-Dec-16
A quick easy FTF at 9.35 a.m. A fun cache hidden in a container we have never previously encountered. A favourite from us. TFTC
