Find # 13107Sometime ago, a group of us got together and tackled the first part of the vampire series. Earlier this week plan was hatched to set up a day to finish them off, along with some letterboxes which have been published since our last visit. If theres any energy to spare we will be tackling some of the TE caches along the river.Signing as VAT24 - Vampire Adventure Trekkers - Sacada, Kittykatch, albida, Flintstones, isopeda, Search4, Joolay. Finally, fifth time lucky! Many thanks to Tankengine for placing Gurgling Gudgenby for us all to enjoy. Your contribution to the game through the placement and maintenance of this cache over the years is appreciated.
A cache trip to the south of Canberra do some more of the Vampire series. Signing with VAT. A number of caches planned to pick up on the road and a second extra walk along the Murrumbidgee to round of a fun half day outing. and others added on the fly. A fun group outing on a beautiful late warm spring day. This cache: A quick find with low water levels no problem. We are starting our first hike from here Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.
Found with a fun group of geofriends during a great day of caching. Signed as Vampire Adventure Trekkers (VAT)TFTH
Spending some time caching around the NSW/ACT southern tablelands with lots of side trips. TFTC.A great day out caching with a local group signing as VAT.The morning started with a few drive bys followed by a long hike down the Gudgenby River. Lots of blackberries, spiky scrub and even a wade along the river made a challenging yet enjoyable trek.Following this we all headed over to the Murrumbidgee River for another tough river walk. This one ended up hot, hazardous and up the steep cliff side so the walk was called off after the first find to end the great day.Nice quick dry find.
Out with Contesta, albida33, Aquilus1, Sacada, Flintstone's, Kittykatch, Joolay, Search4 and me - signing as VAT - Vampire Adventure Treckers. Brilliant day, though expecting it to get hotter later. TFTC *Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*
Container replaced and moved to a slightly higher spot. Should be easier to access now, but will still be underwater, if water is running over the road.GOOD TO GO!!!
Visited this case yet again today for about a fourth time. And once again Gudgenby gurgling very loud so will have to leave it for another time. Thanks to Tankengine for this Gurgling Gudgenby and for keeping the game alive with the pursuit of yet more goals to achieve
With social climber. Cache well below the water line and in a waterfall so didn’t open it to protect the contents. See photo in social climber’s log.
Thanks Tankengine

Found with pantspeople. We decided not to sign the log because the container had water flowing over it. Took photos as evidence of the find. TFTC
I stopped in here yet again on my way to Namadgi, hopeful that the lower water level would allow me to spot the cache. After rearranging some rocks that has moved during one of the many floods I found it, neatly tucked away and mercifully still there!
Unfortunately even with bike gloves on I was unable to get the container open, but at least the log should be dry! After providing photographic evidence, the CO has kindly allowed me to claim this as a find.
Thanks, Tankengine!

Wow - almost two years since this was last found, and there's been a lot of water over the bridge (well, ford I suppose) since then!
Every time I've been to GZ the water has been far too high. Today I noticed that even the depth gauge appears to have been swept away since I was last here. Armed with gumboots and an idea of where to look, I still couldn't locate the container here at all. I suspect it's ended up in the ocean off South Australia by now!
Not to worry. Thanks anyway, Tankengine!

Out for a fun days caching with fitzy_1965, albida33 & cosmonaut97.
We headed from Canberra down to Cooma out to Anaminaby and back through Namadgi.
Last stop for the day....ended up only finding the loop the cache had been on. Sent picture to TE who has given permission for us to log and he will go replace.
Watch out for European Waps buzzing around GZ.

Canberra Day Long weekend Day 2. Cooma and Boboyan Road. Another day for a road trip took me with Cosmonaut97, Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK down to Cooma, across to Adaminaby, out to Eucumbene dam and back home via Boboyan road. Two early DNFs, but many finds. There was huge over lap in out team and although we visited over 45 caches today, no of us made that many finds today.
After lots of peering and dodging European wasps, we found the anchor cable. With image in hand, Tankengine allowed a find and has since replaced the container.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine

23,770. Found with minniek, albida33 and cosmonaut97 during a loop from Canberra to Cooma, Adaminaby and back through Namadgi today.
With a planned walk in Canberra postponed, we headed out on Plan B - a loop from Canberra to Cooma, Adaminaby and back home through Namadgi. After the others grabbed caches in Cooma, we headed out towards Adaminaby, and then home through Namadgi. Next find of the day. Returning from another cache we stopped here to give this one a go. After some careful searching I located the cache - well sort of. I found the attachment that the cache use to be on. Took a photo and sent it to the CO. He confirmed it was missing and gave us permission to log the find. Awesome.
Thanks Tankengine !! Appreciate being able to log this one. Watch out for water trucks when you do maintenance

No way today! There was a veritable torrent whooshing by after all that rain. I hope the last person to find this did the container up tightly! Thanks anyway TE - I'll be back.
A big day of caching with J+J.AU today. Starting in Mos Vale with a few quick aches just as light starts to appear. Then a long drive to and through Canberra to get to the part of the Murrumbidgy we were targeting today do finish of the vampire series. A lot of walking for some great d/t ratings and half of the time tracks were not really there! Of track is no problem however and enjoyed the day and perfect weather.

Wilbert67 joined us today on a huge day of caching , our target was the vampire series and a few others along the way.
We left home super early and it was good to do some of the trails while it was cool.
The walk at the end our legs felt the effect of the day.
We spotted plenty of kangaroos and birds, occasional fly came to greet also.
Over all we felt quite accomplished with smileys we gathered.
Thanks for the placements of these.
A great day out.

Cache 5512 on 13 Oct 2019.
I was keen to get out and grab a few caches today, and Fitzy_1965 was at a loose end after dropping Minniek off at Pine Island, so we decided to combine our efforts and grab a few caches together. We decided to head down south of Tharwa to grab a few Tankengine caches and what ever else cross our paths! I got 11 caches which I was happy with, and Fitzy also got quite a few. A lovely morning caching and catching up on the gossip!
This cache: quick find as expected. those wire ties sometimes are easier to look for than the cache!
Thanks Tankengine for the cache and thanks Fitzy_1965 for the fun!

Parked near here to do some more caches of the Vampire series. My first look for this cache was unsuccessful. But after doing the vampire caches, I returned tired and wet and spotted this one from a distance, inexplicably. Perhaps the sun was just in the right spot to make the wire cable glint. TFTC
It is a pretty spot and I will be back for a Summer picnic.
It is a pretty spot and I will be back for a Summer picnic.
Out and about again today with my youngest daughter. After watching the new Lion King movie at Tuggeranong, I ducked out to Orroral to find a windmill. Stopped and completed this cache on the way back in (via Angle Crossing). Thanks TE.
Attending the Queanbeyan Clear Waters mega event, this was my final day. I teamed up with e.gregory1 today, as we headed south from the city, and geocache in and around Namadgi National Park. Another nice day with great weather, apart from the thunderstorm that rolled through towards the end of a day. It wasn't a day of high finds, but some great targeted caches, awesome scenery, and interesting history at Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station, which was linked to assisting with communicating the moon landing.
We stopped off here just as the heavens started opening up. We were about to abandon our search, but then I discovered the nicely tucked away cache. Another CO cache securely fastened (have been loving these during my visit). All in good shape. Thanks Tankengine for its placement and ongoing maintenance.

Today was the final day of the Clear Water Mega event in Queanbeyan. I teamed up with a fellow South Australian geocacher and spent much of the day south of the city in and around the Namadgi National Park.
We had another day of great weather until late in the afternoon when a thunderstorm passed over. Fortunately we were pretty much finished and headed back by then.
A reasonably quick find as we made our way back towards Canberra.
Thanks Tankengine for the cache.

Tiding things up and finally getting around to logging my DNFs
No find for us here today

I wasn't sure where to look here. There were plenty of choices for different types of caches so I sat for a minute to soak my feet. Then I looked down and there the cache was. It's tucked back in now so will be more difficult. Cache is in goid condition. Tftc
I've just enjoyed the CITO and the company. I'm heading home slowly to enjoy the scenery and find a few caches. This one is a park and grope. I short-circuited the groping by walking around and using my eyes. I eventually settled on a location, walked to it, groped, and found the cache. Thanks, Tankengine. I've tried for this one once before, but it was under water at the time. The edge of the river was about 10m the wrong side of GZ so I couldn't attempt it.
Found with nissan 65 on a few days caching in Canberra. We headed up last night after work and stayed at our usual over night spot in Goulburn before heading out this way. Thankyou to all cache owners for placing these for our enjoyment
First stop of the day on a wander along the river banks. Parked close-by and the waited for the GPS to settle as I wandered...and waited...and wandered. Eventually figured out where I should be.
I headed out with Smittengranny, Joolay, dty73 and aquilus1 today so SG could get some more caches on her way to 6000 finds. Lots of fun with these ladies and had a great day. TFTC
Out on a lovely day with Kittykatch and Smittengranny running around picking up missed caches and doing others. Weather was great and had a great day with great company. . TFTC
Another fabulous day out on the caching trail today - this time with Kittykatch, Joolay, Aquilus 1 and dty73. We travelled in two cars but managed lots of relaxed chatting as we walked between caches. The Vampire Series were in our sights but we grabbed some smilies along the way. All caches attempted were found to be in good condition and now carry our names. Mostly mine is SG.
Thanks to all the COs for placing these caches for us to find. TNLN SL.
Love a quick find.

Parked nearby before setting out on the Vampire Trail. The hint was helpful and the coords accurate but still took a bit of a hunt before spotting the cache. TFTC Tankengine
Nice and peaceful here today .
Still pretty dry on the hillsides as we need more rain .

Great cache, hidden nicely. When the waters come it should hold tight as this is one tough container. Voted. Now up north to do the vampire series. Tftc.
Have been wanting to get my Buffy Vampire Slayer on for some time on and slay me some of the two fanged blood suckers. Finally, the stars aligned, and the day arrived. Dam it was too cold for my Buffy Outfit so it was on with the caching pants and puffer jacket – my other fav outfit with added garlic vampire extinguishing accouchements. StrangeTrousers skidded sideways into my driveway for the pick up on our way to gather mtrax whilst daylight was with us. Then onwards to the country and adventures.
The caching was great and views stunning as were some of the vertical trampling up and down hillsides. Loved every minute of it and am very grateful the gallant guys for me not leaving on the side of a hill as I slowly walked up them. Thankful that I was not doing it in Buffy boots and a short skirt – freezing. This series is so worth it for the views it gives, most importantly caches and that we got out alive with no fang marks in our necks. We were not able to get them all as it was a challenging course in some crisp and windy weather. Hope to be back with more salt to throw down for the vampires to count every grain when needed to escape.
This was a fun one. Not one of ther series and a nice diversion. Hope to add a photo of the boys near GZ. There was a moment with some cheeky banter going on and I think one of them joking about going Nudi Rudi in the water to get the cache.

#4384 26th for today
A chilly days caching out past the Thawa sandwash, and it was not just the wind that sent a chill through our hearts. This is vampire territory and so the three of us: mtrax, CBRChic and myself came to stake our claim in the chests of the undead infesting these parts. We were well protected with garlic, crucifixes, holy water, silver bullets (although I argued that was for werewolves) and, of course, stakes and hammers. CBRChic kept tossing salt as she has a theory that vampires are OCD and were compelled to count every spilled grain. It seemed to work as we were not attacked today.
It wasn't an easy walk in this undulating territory and the cold, biting wind did little to raise our spirits, but it was a productive days caching. We will need to return in less oppressive weather to rid this area of the scourge.
We had a lot of fun here. Mostly because it was out of the wind so we took our time and enjoyed ourselves. Took a bit of searching, I think we were expecting it to be in a more adventurous spot, but nobody was going swimming today.
Thanks also to the COs: Tankengine

Found at 4:45:00 PM
I was on the way home from Orroral Valley and decided to clear out some of the caches I wouldn't normally do down here as I am normally too tired from big days out in the bush. Found after a few minutes of searching.
Thanks Tankengine

Aquilus1 and I were planning a more serious day doing some rock hopping and bush bashing in Namadgi, but with it still raining at my place I called it early that it wasnt the safe option. So, instead we determined that we could do one of the new vampire trails past Tharwa.
This was the sixth for the day

Another tricky hide.. took the three of us a bit of searching to spot this one.. but cache all good. Great location.
Heading down Namadji way to find some of the Vampire series, It was a day with mixed weather, some sun, rain and wind, but had a great day out with CBRChick and StrangeTrousers.

Came out with DSD and ALL7 today and parked nearby this cache.
While waiting for others to get ready for a wander I came over to this Tankengine cache and got down and dirty looking for it!
I knew there was only one place the cache could be hidden according to Tankengine's standards, especially when so close to a flooding river! However with this in mind it still took me about 5 minutes to uncover the sneaky hide! I was starting to get doubtful but turns out I just somehow missed it, very well hidden indeed!
Thanks for bringing us here today, a great location and drive

Thanks TE, grabbed this after watching model plane flying nearby. Nice spot and a well engineered, protected cache. (As always)
Cache in excellent condition. Surprised we found ithe cache at all as it's well hidden but today it's definitely not under water. Worth a favourite point for bringing us to this great location for a walk in this area. TFTC Tankengine.
This is in such a lovely spot even though there were heaps of cattle slowly making their way down the approach road. River running well but not so hard as to make the cache retrieval difficult - just a slightly wet foot. TFTC
Back and forth, over and under, around and about. Tried all those options till we found the cache. Nice hide. Thanks TS
An Insta find by youngest here. He had a good chuckle at the recent DNF of our favourite caching buddies!

A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip led by Marmaduke Rothschild. Pretty spot. Trip report at [http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/22-june-2017-apollo-rocks-and-other-places/](http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/22-june-2017-apollo-rocks-and-other-places/) . TFTC.
Back again. After removing lots of flood debris, found it exactly where tankengine said it should be. Thanks.
Second what MBO said yesterday! Impressive and more like a roar today than a gurgle
Not a case of a DNF, nor a find, but it was obviously a case of its 10 metres - OUT THERE, UNDER WATER. (Not surprising after 50mm of rain last night). Will come back another day.
While checking on my chirp cache we decided to grab this one.
After a brief search we spied it.
It will definitely end up under water at some point. You will have to share where you found the containers.
They will fit a pathtag and still seal.
While I was sorting out the chirp cache this location was high on the list for the chirp location (the crossing is the part I wanted people to experience). We've thought about bringing the kids here to paddle, but we usually end up at Angle Crossing.
Thank you for bringing people here.

Surprising then number of places one can hide a cache where there original appears to be very few. Fortunately found the right spot fairly quickly. Not before getting my hands wet though. TNLNSL TFTC
This one took far too long, but spotted it in the end. Nice flow in the river today.
Thanks

5346. A nice afternoon drive and after a DNF just up the road, I called into this one. My GPSr didnt really settle so I looked both upstream and downstream. Happy to say I eventually found it high and dry.
Thanks TE for the cache and the fun. Nice little spot here!

Found on the way home from Mt McCormack. Three caches to-day, all hidden by TE. After I started searching a ute drove up, a lady and her child to have a picnic. They ignored me and had their picnic while I searched and searched and searched before going to the obvious spot for the third look to finally spot it. TFTCs to-day TE.
Loved the ease of this one compared to the last cache. Aquilus1 read out the hint to this one as the couple of muggles walked off down the creek. There are only a few options of hiding places once you narrow it down. Tftc Tankengine!!!
After the previous cache proved to be some what elusive, this was quite the opposite and was spotted quite quickly. Arrived to find a car here with a couple of people enjoying the area and water with their dog but they moved on further away and left us to search without prying eyes. Water levels are low and lots of gold flecks in it. Thanks for the cache TE!
Returned today with Decrypter and Trodectus and the find was made quickly by Trodectus. Much easier to search with no-one else here. No sign of the platypus today. TFTC Tankengine.
Found with Goldenwattle and Decrypter. We parked nearby and made our way to GZ. With the Gudgenby gurgling nearby, D went one way and I the other. Soon we had CIH. We looked for platypus but alas had no luck. TFTC
Out and about with Winglen heading to KNP and stopped in to find this one. Mrs W found her second of 2 here which could have been because I didn't have this in my PQ OR she's a better finder than me (I vote the second option.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine and the grumbling.

On our way through to Adaminaby with McPhan, this was just the morning to do this one. After finding the nearby chirp we stopped here. It took us some while to find, being very well hidden by the last finder, but got there in the end. Thanks Tankengine.

I joined up with a bush walking meetup group for a non-strenuous walk to Namadgi Swamp, followed by a BBQ lunch at the tracking station. Afterwards I stayed on in the valley finding a few other caches. On the way home I stopped here. There were muggles sunbathing about 30m away on the other side of the bridge, but they seemed to be ignoring me as I searched for and soon found the cache. Lots of little fish at GZ. TFTC.

DNF, but it was hard to search with a family enjoying the water nearby. I was rewarded though with a platypus surfacing underneath me, as I looked over the side of the bridge. It saw me and flip it was gone. Then not long after it resurfaced again in front of me, but flip and it was gone again. I waited, but it didn't reappear.
Well not quite as gurgling as our last visit to Sunshine crossing and the water level have now well and truly subsided...which made cache retrieval much easier! A lovely spot and definitely in need of a cache.
Short search and we spotted the tell tale attachment method...will be very much needed here!
Mr Stormcatcher couldn't resist getting his feet wet in this warm afternoon heat and we spent some time just enjoying the serenity after signing the log. Summer time is definitely a good time to collect this one!
Thanks Tankengine for the cache

Did a little bit of CITO while we were at it...sad to see so much rubbish and disregard for the environment sometimes.
Felt the need for some caching in the quiet countryside this evening, so headed south past Tharwa with two caches in my sights. Didn't pass a single car after leaving suburbia behind... until I reached this cache. I was somewhat dismayed to find a car parked just a little way from GZ, but I stopped and went for a wander down by the water, sussing out whether there was anyone in the car or nearby. It soon became apparent that there were a couple of people in the car, but their minds were on the task at hand and I passed by unobserved.
I spent several minutes exploring a few options before focussing a bit better on the task at hand, which resulted in me making the find. Signed the log and replaced as found before heading back to the car, past the still gyrating Volkswagen.
Thanks Tankengine - Smileys all round on this one I think!

There I was lying on the couch watching Y Tu Mamá También (which only had about 5mins to go) when my phone started beeping as new caches got published. The family had already left for QLD for Chrissy leaving me home alone nursing my knee which is recovering from surgery. I figured I would see if any easy ones popped up. Well one about 13km to the south came up, plus it was a park and grab and plus plus it was a TE cache which meant I wouldn't have to fight him for a FTF so I though damn it, I'll give it a go.
So I jumped in the car knowing exactly the area the cache was in and started driving. Thats when I noticed I didn't have much battery left on my phone, but since I knew the area, I just turned off the phone and drove to the spot.
Once there I was in luck as no other cars were there. I turned back on the phone to read the hint and get a better idea of the exact location and start looking. I had a good idea of where I thought it would be so started looking for about 20 fruitless minuets. Another car rolled up and I was actually glad as by this stage I was getting frustrated with the search. They were just passing through though so it was on to the search, looked for about 10 more minutes and was a about to give up. Read the description again and thought about previous TE hides and then I figured I'd change my plan of attach and give it one last shot.
Success!! Found it very quickly after that for my very first ever FTF. I was my new years resolution to get a FTF this year and by the skin of my teeth I got it. And it was my 720th find which makes something of a pattern if you drop the '1' from 1720.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine, and kind of fitting that my first FTF would be a TE cache as TE has claimed so many FTF on my caches and beaten me to the punch on so many occasions. Scored a shiny path tag too.
