The long drive Brisbane to Canberra ... needs a few targeted distractions to break the drive and give me something to be aiming for, enthused about. A few attribute combos for random challenges and some new LGAs along the rough trajectory. Camped here overnight, lovely spot, and once the trucks on the hwy stopped coming by so often I was well rested and refreshed for a second day. Quick coffee, some porridge, a cache find and I'm on my way again.
Thanks smee1961 for entertaining me at this location.

We had a great day today, driving out to Mudgee via Coolah and Gulgong, managing 37 finds including 7 trigs in perfect weather, if a little hot at times. After some explanations from myself about the names of these, this trail was christened the 'dad joke trail'.... we had fun....
We've driven past this a few times now, I can't recall why we didn't stop before, no probs today though... TFTC!

A quick find on the way from Gulgong. The log is soaked due to condensation inside the container.
On my way to Dubbo for the weekend and after not finding the first time round stopped in to hopefully turn the sad face upside down
I'm leaving the new Mrs Mister JD at home while I go to care for my aged Mum in Brisbane for a couple of weeks while my brother visits his grandkids in Sydney. I'm looking forward to seeing
mum but sad to be leaving my wife at home. I'm taking four days for the trip because
I want to find caches, and long trips are way in my past due to my crook back. Caching is ideal as I can stop and start practically as I like. Today's leg is home to Dubbo. I got off to a late start, and found the traffic out of Canberra was horrendous, so I took a back road just out of town, and finished up doing part of a power trail before I got to Yass. I really enjoyed that road, but took too long and found only a few more on the rest of the day. I did stop quite a few times for my back and to give Sophie GeoSchnauzer a bit of a run. Sophie is a bit sad, we have just lost her lifetime companion, Oscar GeoSchnauzer at the ripe old age of fifteen and a half.
This is day 2 of my journey, driving from Dubbo to Tamworth via less traveled ways. We started in Dubbo, collecting caches, fuel and supplies, then headed to Dunedoo, then on to Coolah, Breeza and Carroll. finding caches and a couple of delightful power trails along the way.
It was a nice easy find. I stopped long enough for the cache and went my merry way. I'm a bit behind where I wanted to be.
Find no 8 of 25 today. Thanks, smee1961

Found by Mary and David at 13:45. On our way to Dubbo tonight. Wonderful to see the sun and to feel warm. Our thanks to smee1961, and goodbye until our next trip through this area.

On making our way back home from Broken Hill to Newcastle, we stopped in Dubbo for the night, and this was the final leg of our journey. Along the way we stopped by a few select caches, including this one.
Another nice place to stop and stretch the legs, and as soon as the cache was located, we were on our way again.

Found in the company of Key_Tat and Viper_101... what a strange little rest area, no toilets... but plenty of tables to have some lunch on. Nice easy find, and a great spot to stretch the legs... TFTC.
Caching with Tatt2squared and Viper_101... cache was found quickly and in good condition... TFTC.

First cache for the year, sadly on our abrupt return to SA. Saw what also looked like the previous cache container nearby. TFTC
We parked quite close to GZ but finding it was difficult, with so much previous searching much of the surrounding vegetation has been disturbed. However, good coordinates finally gave me the right place and I collected the container. Thanks smee1961 for a good hide accessed through long, dry grass. No local fauna was seen today though.
Our search was NOT null and void. The kookaburras cheered as we made our find. Tftc
Found but wet. Replaced container best we could but log wet and we didn't have any paper. Have messaged cache owner
I will hopefully be able to replace cache in the next few days ..sorry for the inconvenience

This is one of the caches I did not get around this area last time we stayed in this area, about three years ago. Nice to have a smiley here.
With GreyHams we set out on a new adventure, driving from Adelaide to Sydney via broken Hill and Bourke... with side trips in all directions as the caches lead us. Four days with a number of target caches along the way, although shires, oldies and virtuals were our priority with many others of interest too.
From the lush green of South Australia into the dry outback of NSW, contrast, scenic and interesting. With GreyHams trip planning we traveled along easily as he drove and navigated and chattered! Never a dull moment through the stark and barren land which was completely fascinating.
So many odd locations to be seen, as well as emus, kangaroos, birds, a desert horse and so many teeny tiny little goats! So many goats... I did love those goats! The dry and barren made way for more substantial lands as we drove closer towards the end of the trip, the trees returned, the hills and finally those little goats... Yay!
About 2500km, 29 shires, 4 virtuals, a number of oldies and some nice walks and places visited along the way. The locals and little towns memorable, the lands and rivers dry and sad but a great trip as we traveled along from cache to cache.
Thanks for your cache to help guide us through our travels, apologies for the generic log, If I had more to add its below this.
Found okay, little higher than expected. Had the overnighter caravan dude walk over, and talk geocaching with us. Note to all... he recommends that the dim Sims and combination at bourke bowls club are not to be missed. We missed them, next time.

Aquilus1 and I have long been looking at our Project-GC maps and trying to 'finish' NSW, which is our closest real state (we both completed the ACT on our first ever finds). Of course we rarely have long term plans, the best trips just sort of happen without too much notice, but we had been thinking about this trip since halfway through the last one.
This plan was to go from Adelaide to Canberra, via the 'hard to reach' counties at the north/north-west of NSW that we had missed last time. Some research showed flights to Adelaide were cheap (well, using points) but also well timed. Arriving at the start point at 7.30am means you are away with a full days caching in front of you. What really sealed it was the one-way car hire deals from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne. Sure, this means we have to catch the bus from Sydney airport, but saving $800 sure has a sweet taste.
Day 1:
After landing in ADL airport we made a swift start grabbing the virtual there, I do so love an airport virtual. From there it was all about Oldies and Counties with a couple of Large caches thrown in for bonus value.... got to love a Large! Soooo many counties in Adelaide, and we grabbed as many as we could without detouring massively... we had a long way to go in 4 days after all. I did quite like the grid layout of Adelaide, it means if you encounter roads that are blocked it was easy to reroute. It was slow going in Adelaide (city caching is always slow) but we eventually made our way out and got to the highway. Almost missed Gawler as we were too busy chatting away, it would have left a large hole in our county maps The Clare valley has such an amount of caches and a bunch of oldies, so it took a bit of time to get through as well. So, so green up this way, it was a pleasant surprise for me. The original plan was to get all the way to Broken Hill today but with so many counties and oldies we only got as far as Peterborough, in the dark amid pouring rain.... and got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town...close call. This was 'proper' small town and we had dinner at the hotel, as it was the only place open.
Day 2:
OK, we have some time to make up as we are 3 hours down the road from where we though we would be starting this day...luckily my alarm was gentle and right on time. Wow, the countryside looks so, so different to yesterday. Now is proper outback and by the time we got to Yunta it was almost desert, really dramatic stuff, but still populated with the odd random goat. We got to Broken Hill and prioritised the highlights: the mine shaft and the big chair.... the HJ's was a fine lunch as well. From there we left and continued across the scrub of western NSW, through Wilcannia, into Cobar with goats galore in between and finally to Bourke, once again in the dark and rain. Bourke was our original destination for Day 2 and we surprised ourselves at making it this far. Again we got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town.... and we tried 4!! Really riding our luck.
Day 3:
OK, next services are in Brewarinna which is 180km away, we have fuel for 200... so off we drive into the desert without a second thought. Yep, smart thinking! We did make it of course but it was a close run thing. Rivers out here were very sad to see... mostly just sand with water here and there.... but not much. Bogan river was non-existant, the Barwon a set of pools with nothing in between. We went through Walgett, less said the better. Through Gilgandra on a private new road ending at Mudgee. Motel had heaps of rooms for once!
Day 4:
Last day and all about getting to the airport through the blue mountains grabbing counties on the way. After dropping off the car we ran to the bus where it was waiting and managed to convince the driver to let us on, while I was buying tickets over the phone... all worked out in the end, but yet another example of our fine luck on the trip.

We stopped in at the rest area here for a quick pick up. It was a very easy find and both our name as well as that of ilook4geo were added to the list, as were travelling together. All was then out back into place and we moved on. Thank you to smee1961 for giving us a reason for this brief break in our trip.
Starting out today caching along with goingplaces2 and made this easy find. No problem in finding this container and signing name. Re hid after we were done. TFTC.
Driving from Orange to Armidale, I needed a quick pit stop & knew this cache was here from a previous trip. Too bad there wasn't a toilet! TFTC.
We found this cache on our way to Lightning ridges.

Travelling from Gulgong to Armidale and collecting a few caches along the way. Thanks so much to all the COs for your time and effort in making and placing these caches as well as making this drive a lot more interesting. Happy caching!
Travelling from Gulgong to Armidale after a stay in Sydney for 2 weeks. I apologise for the generic log, however due to the number of caches found, it would take me ages to do individual logs. To the CO's thank you for placing the caches in the spots you have. Enjoyed this part of the country and will probably be back in this area in next couple of months after the Mega Event in Queanbeyan in April. TFTC.
Stopped here this morning. Found the cache container muggled, empty on the ground. Replaced log book in snap lock bag and added some swaps. Signed this log and replaced. TFTC
After overnighting in Narrabri, we headed to Dubbo for an Event, and now on our way to Mudgee for an overnight stay.
Nice find after Mrs RoddyC went to the wrong tree first.
Log signed and cache replaced at 6:17 PM on December 15, 2018. TFTC.

So long since I have been on this road! Nice little rest stop. First attempt at GZ did not produce what I was looking for (juice container and hose :O ) but after widening the search the cache was revealed. On the way out a goanna crossed the path, very impressive!!
