Headed north to Widgee and surrounding area today to grab a few caches. I enjoyed the drive along great country roads and forestry trails and visited a few great lookouts along the way.
I continued up the hill and it wasn't long and I was parked looking at the great view. It's always great when you've done a bit of a climb to be rewarded with views like those that were in front of me and further down the road.
I ventured over and found the cache pretty easy as it was exposed. I headed back to the car and when I retrieved the log I saw that pleny of muggles had found it and even written about their find in the log. Thankfully it had been returned each time and after I finished reading and signing I returned it and put a bit more cover over it before leaving.
A great location and worth a FP for the adventure.
TFTC PB1973
I took along some trackables for a visit too.

Took family up to the top on a 4wd trip. Checked in on the cache again as it had been a while since it was logged. Cache is dry and in good condition
Wow... This is such an awesome spot. We were lucky enough to have Sweet-Sour with us to show us the way. There were some tricky and slightly worrying sections of the climb to negotiate. Worrying enough to force Mrs Herbz to exit the trusty Prado and walk up and down the hairy bits on a few occasions. We managed to arrive unscathed however and enjoy the magnificent views from GZ before finding the cache and heading back the way we came. An FP from us of course. The highlight of our day. TFTC Powell Bruce.
Wow! What an awesome location! Continuing on from the launch point cache we easily made our way up to the awesome views on offer. Definitely a place to return to again. Would love to be up here to see some hang gliders launch off the edge.

't think the Great Wally would not be quite up to it. So we walked instead. I am glad we did as 4wd access is no longer possible due to fallen trees everywhere. Bring chainsaw or walk.
We got to 9m from the cache before this one when I slipped in the mud and completed a face plant landing on my shoulder that has a rotary cuff injury. I immediately felt excruciating pain and started screaming. Not wanting to get CDAH55 worried. I said I'm okay. I am just doing theatrics. He says I wish you wouldn't because you get me concerned. When I said I was ok, I meant that I hadn't broken anything. I then yelled out. I am still going to get to cache, even if I had to crawl. Finally the pain subsided. Then it was onto this cache. Fantastic views. It was all up a 6km return journey of 2 hours.

Dora the Explorer! and I attended the New Years CITO event at Widgee today and then headed up the mountain to grab a few caches. The two caches along this track was our main target.
We were advised that there were some steep sections in the track and whilst the caches are accessible by 4WD, we would need to weigh up our options when we approached the first steep bit. The Great Wall certainly has the required ground clearance but not a great lot of power.
We stopped at the first section to survey what was ahead of us and decided to back the vehicle back to a suitable parking spot and go to the caches on foot. This turned out to be our only option as a storm that passed through the area the night before had snapped off many trees and left them laying across the track. Even two guys on trail bikes had to turn back.
The walk was steep in parts made harder because we had to step over fallen logs on the way and some of the debris was quite large.
We made it almost to GZ at Launch Site when Dora the Explorer! slipped on some mud near a puddle and did a giant face plant into the water. It looked funny but she has had a dodgy shoulder and this was the first bit that took the impact. She said that she was going to get to the cache even if she had to crawl there.
After completing Launch site we headed off to this cache and it was not too long before the cache was in hand.
The log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.
Until the track has been cleaned up, access to these caches will only be by foot.
My Wikiloc track log is [here](https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/widgee-leap-from-here-cache-21801197)
The return trip was 6.34klms and took us 2 hours and 4 minutes. Our elevation gain was only 199m.
This was enjoyable hike however after the storms and the rain it was very humid.
All is good with this cache.

TFTC ***powellbruce*** This cache is well worthy of a favourite point because of the enjoyable hike and the spectacular views at the end of it.

After checking in to the 2017 Widgee event, the Bromance hit the forest collecting caches. Time to see if we can put a few scratches into Swellerfungus's red zooming 'schroom for him to buff out.
This cache, although a little harder ti get to, is certainly worth the diversion - an interesting track with the driving just challenging enough to raise the excitement levels and some great views along the ridge line. A quick find at GZ.
Many thanks powellbruce

No red carpet parties rubbing shoulders with A listers. No sipping champagne in a ski chalet in the French Alps. Not even a couple of sparklers and a get together with relations you can't stand. Such is the stunted social life of the Bromance on New Years Eve. So instead Swellerfungus, Crookedpete and Seffnjarah decided to pack up the Zoomin' Shroom and head up to Widgee for a day of caching and a night of camping in 5 hollow-star luxury.
The J.E.F.F. App had been busy, drawing up a hit list of caches to collect along the way including a string of caches in Wrattens National Park such as this one. Swellerfungus, as chief pilot was in his element as the Zoomin' Shroom bashed its way around the forest roads, getting intimate with lantana and other overgrown foliage on more than one occasion.
What a fantastic spot to drive up to! Driving along the ridge line with drop offs on both sides was exciting indeed. Arriving at GZ and walked over to the launch point while Swellerfungus hunted for the cache. Not a chance in hell I would ever through myself off of here, when my feet can remain safely planted on terra firma, thank you very much!! Swellerfungus still hadn't found the container by the time I walked back but soon had the deed completed. It would have been a great spot to stop for lunch but we didn't think about it until well back down the track. TFTC

Time for another Bromance Road Trip. After checjing in at the event we headed out for some more fun. Up to the mountains looked like the place to go!
Now this is a real destination spot. It is not often you get to a place where you can get your car so close rto a drop off. The weather is now stinking hot and it is good to find the cache quickly and get back into the air conditioning (not before really enjoying the view though). Thanks fro the cache FP for me.

Drove up from Canberra, for a much needed holiday staying with my parents in Caloundra ... Up here for a few weeks (Christmas, and most of January
My parents didn't have any plans for this weekend/NYE so I figured I would come up for the Geocaching weekend at Widgee ... glad I did - 3 days of fun!
After arriving here yesterday evening, and staying up way too late, I was woken up by the daylight (Sunrise is way earlier than it happens where I come from - lol) I had breakfast and a chat with everyone, and jumped into the powellbruce Geomobile with Sweet-Sour and youngoldfella, and we headed for the hills for an adventure
TFTC - Up up up... to #1 find for the day, high on a hill with a wonderful view, and a lovely drive up there.

At long last I can claim this as a At the Widgee Event, we had a guest from Cambera that wanted some of last years caches, as the only safe way to visit Wrattens Forest is in a high clearance vehicle, The CO obliged us with the his Cruiser.
Most of the trails and tracks have been very badly washed out over the last 12 months.
Thanks Bruce for the tour out to the point, well worth the wait. The views from the cache site are absolutely spectacular
Thanks for the cache powellbruce.

What a fun cache to get to [^]
And what a view !!
I could see the Gympie water tower from up here !!
(Through binoculars of course).
I did not leap
The wind was blowing the wrong way today
The launch site is definitely still used !!
But mostly during summer if me knowledge of meteorology in this part of the world serves me well
TFTC and and excuse to head for somewhere I didn't know existed !!
Fave dance time !!

T-Tech and I are camping for the long weekend at Brooyar with Brother Colin, and today we are going caching. We spent an hour or so touring around Widgee, followed by several hours of 4WD-ing through Wrattens National Park, collecting 28 caches [^]
T-Tech handled the drive out here very well, as he is rather familiar with it, seeing as he was up on Mount Widgee just a few weeks ago for work I was hoping this spot would have some good views and I was not disappointed [^] It's spectacular, and I wished there had been some hang-gliders heading out, but no. The co-ords were spot on, and the container is a very neat job, so all up it gets a favourite point. TFTC, and for bringing me out here, powellbruce.

Up from Brisbane with IolantheK to meet up with Brother Colin and camp for the long weekend at Brooyar [^] Caching and Rock Climbing not a bad combination [^]
Lots of driving on the dirt today around Widgee, Wrattens National Park
Loved the area around the abandon open cut mining at "Large Oasis", wow what a place. We'd continued on south Past "Hill Top" on a less travelled track till we meet up with the Black Snake Rd again, felt a bit like we were lost but we made it back to civilisation again

I am camping for the week-end just up the road at Glastonbury Creek Campsite with IolantheK and T-tech.
Today is the day allotted for geocaching, tomorrow we are rock climbing, and we headed out early and returned after dark. [^]
After a couple of easy finds on the way it is now time to engage 4WD and start explore the more difficult places to get to.
A great day out up here and an 'interesting' road to get to this one.
A quick find here and then went and checked out the view. WOW.
Thanks for the cache.

Found at the event at Widgee over the New Year Weekend. The last cache on the track and for the day was "Leap from here"; the pick of the lot on the weekend. We could see road where we had come up. Austrees had lost her sense of direction for we could see Gympie in the distance to the East. There was another track from here that seemed to lead to an even higher lookout. A good picnic place to take friends who weren't squeamish about heights. a favourite from me. This was the end of the event for us - it was just too hot.
New Years Day today - at the 2017 Newbie Event, and we are still chasing some FTFs out on a closer track today We are in the company of the entire Vennfamily again today until we parted ways at "3 Leaf", and Selva Girls has joined us for the entire day. In fact, today we are in Selva Girls 4WD Geovehicle. Nice!
Today we are better planned, as overnight I made time to work out a better plan of action - out along Upper Thornside Road to the Upper Heights cache, then back to the tougher Widgee Mountain Road, then out along the 4WD track to the Hang Gliders leap and back, then up Black Snake Road to the Mt Mia caches then on to Kilkivan and around the back and along the Wide Bay Highway and along Kinbombi Road to pick up a few, then back over the Mountain to Widgee to get as many as we can to clear the area out. If we can do it, we'll visit 32 caches today.
Selva Girls managed to get the XTrail right up to "Keiths Rocks", but then we agreed that the little Xtrail should go no further, so we bundled into the Pajero and the XTrail was left running with the aircon on for the remainder of the Vennfamily who were not all that keen on the 4WD track!
It was quite a journey - the track in parts only as wide as the top of the ridge, and a sudden right-hand turn at the TOP of a steep climb, at a large fence post, was necessary to avert a rather unplanned and very steep descent on a totally unmarked road! Better watch that one coming back - the track will be coming back DOWN to that whoozy of a corner!!
Once that was navigated, we didn't have too far to go along the trail now deep into Xanthorea country. That was a quick change in vegetation. Time to pull up and locate the cache.
Now surely that final cache can't be too far away! Hope so - there is no where to turn a 4WD drive around on this track!
Log signed & replaced again. Found at 11.50am on 1st January 2017. TFTC
My Nissan X-Trail had struggled to get up the hill, so had been left at Keiths Rocks and we continued up the hill in the Vennmobile. We had found another cache on the way up and finally reached this cache. WOW!!!!! What an amazing view!!!!! Lots of ooohs and aaahs. Plenty of photos taken. Then we remembered that we were here to find a cache. So we made our way to GZ. there, the cleverly hidden cache was located after a short search. We signed the log, rehid the cache and had a last lingering look at the amazing view before we headed back down to my car and the rest of the waiting Venn family. TFTC

I was travelling with Bruce ( powellruce) and we had just found Launch Pad and as he had been to this point many years before we decided to keep driving. With hindsight I could have made it in my 4WD with Keith (Sweet-Sour) a few days ago after we placed Launc Pad and Keith's Rocks on the way back to the main trck. I had chicken legs apparently. We decided this spot needed a cache and Bruce soon fixed that little over sight. Now there are three on this track from the main Road from the turn off. Keith Rocks and Launch Pad and this one. Thanks for the company and the driving Bruce and TFTC powellbruce

Wow. Just wow.
The ride up here was a little hairy but weren't the views worth it. What a fantastic spot.

(FTF) We found this while attending the Widgee Newbies Cacheup Event. This is our first FTF which was made even more memorable by the stunning views. This is what we love about geocaching - being taken to amazing hidden places that we would never have visited if we were not involved in this sport, plus the adventure and fun we have on the journey. Definitely the highlight of the weekend event for us and a favourite point from us - for the 4X4 adventure and rewarding views. We are definitely hooked!! Thanks to Powellbruce for placing this cache here and thanks to Sweet-Sour for holding the event.
