Always been a bit wet here, cache had run it's course so far away from the touristy main road P&G's for any genuine cacheri. University commitments keep us away in Otago to reposition again. Spring calves would've been a treat but Southland is a bit behind in the seasons down here. Familia stone put to rest.
Swung by today for this one. Log was drenched and container full of water. Unable to sign log, photo attached. TFTC
Nice little afternoon adventure for me! I came the long dusty way with no one around. As soon as I stopped to search, I had to wait out three cars... TFTC!!
Nice little area, found rather quickly. Out caching with kiddies last for today on our way home now starting to rain. SL and replaced, logbook and cache nice and dry in hide. TFTC
#10,321. I am down in Southland and Otago for a week on a mixture of work and holiday. The trip got delayed by a few hours by airport woes in Wellington. Finally I arrived in Invercargill and picked up the rental car. Thankfully its long evenings down here so managed to fit in 4 and half hours of caching before sunset. After doing the nearby CANZ cache I was heading to Winton but stopped to pick this one up. Interesting bit of local history. Love the way geocaching allows you to visit historic sites like this to sample a bit of the pioneer past in what would otherwise be bland farm paddocks. Quick find after checking out the cairn. Signed and replaced the container where found. Thanks Lions.v.Lambs for hiding it here.
I have gone a bit further afield from Gore today.
It was nicely tucked away..
Cheers for the cache.

Thursday 5 November. Wintons wherigo is on the radar today also visited Foresthill. Time to go exploring Toby!
Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

Cache 174 Raced out in my lunch break to grab this cache, in great condition log is super dry especially being as everything in the area is sopping wet. Rock bug added to cache T4TC
Norty Boyos did away with the luvly pine hedge. All harvested for timber and firewood. The GZ has had it's tidy up and refuse pile burnt. The hide was a little singed but enough to melt part of the cache oh dear. Replaced the 200ml with another camo painted box tucked away in hide with original logbook in good knick. No problems here but I'm gonna miss the protection of the tall timbers but at least the long grass is gone making the loose wire easy to spot. Should *stay* dry for Winter[.](https://coord.info/GLRGFXBY)

I thought this one might not be here anymore as I imagined it might have been living in one of the recently chopped down blackened and burned big old tree stumps (fire? Lightning perhaps?) Looked a little harder and found it not so far from the memorial stone. TFTC!
*As the country enters a 4 week lockdown, it is strongly recommend that whilst we go for a walk for exercise, we need to take care on shared surfaces by avoiding them (this includes cache containers).... to remove temptation, I am disabling this cache. Remember there is more than physically finding a cache, there are plenty of puzzle caches you can do at home.
Stay home, stay safe and save lives.*
While I don't condone the actions of individuals caching while in this lockdown period, once each of my caches receives a find it shall be disabled, allowing cacheri to keeps their found logs. The Half life of plastic contamination is roughly five days. Situation effective until the end of the lockdown period or levels decrease safely, cache of course remains in hide as I'm in a familia bubble on the Ponderosa limiting my movements to essential travel.
With a few templates to choose from this week, Nat's one struck the right chord of community spirit.
**Vade in Pace, we'll all get through this.**

Easy find with kids heading to forest Hill for a wander, and a Kiwi Guardian post.
Recent burning off of scrub at GZ has left one side of the sistema snap a wee bit melted and difficult to click closed, SL replaced back in hide

We had just had lunch. Sounded like the cattle were still waiting for theirs. Lovely place to be in the sun. Tftc
A quick and easy find. Cheers
Easter holidays, and a road trip to Milford Sound. Today we drove around Southland: Winton, Gore and Invercargill, with lovely weather for the day, and lovely Southland countryside.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

Another quick stop on our way back to the main road. Watch out for the barbed wire! TFTC.
Found on a caching journey into Southland today with Bitsprayer today. All caches found in good condition. Really enjoyed the challenge and the many hours spent on the puzzles caches to unravel the coordinates. Also great to travel along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. TFTC
Had a great day down in the Deep South Caching 870km traveled in 16hr's many thanks to all the cache owner's, still have heaps to do. Thanks Bitsprayer
I'm on a geocaching detour while traveling to Te Anua from Dunedin. Had trouble closing the container and one clip is broken. It is well tucked into a crack between the two D's where I found it.
A fairly quick find given the number of possibilities. We did find it necessary to cross the old fence lying on the ground. TFTC
Thanks for bringing me here. My old dad grew up in Forest Hill, so was nice to explore the area
Back for grand daughters 4 year old birthday bash - grabbing a couple of new caches out this way
Not sure if they are thinking of moving the memorial
Or just putting water lines beside it but digging is in the go

For a relatively new cache placement that has been logged by the local active cacheri, some previous spots were getting a little unwanted attention, including the muggling of the original container. *Sigh . . . they're not making filmcans anymore*.
Thanks Slassu for taking the time to post a co'od.
Remember to wave when the farmers pass by.

Hoho tractor muggles feeding out at 5pm. Passed this one by for maintenance check. Another day sometime.

Found quickly without drama. Amazing that c.o.came across this little memorial.I wonder if the Camerons are buried here or maybe in a local cemetery.TFTC
Quite country road. Found a place to turn the truck around and SL. Prickles . . . grrrr. TFTC
A quick find. After reading previous logs thought the cache container might be harder to find than it was. Log book signed and returned to its present hiding spot. Thanks from the hide.
Had a hint from previous finder, after having two goes at it flatenig grass. Had already looked in hint spot. Today checked the hinted spot and not there, so had a good time lifting tree pieces stamping on thistles and looking in gorse with the feet, no gloves. Revisited a big item and spotted a shape of a small container but unable to commit my life to reach for it so attacked it from the up side, still had to remove lots of stuff to get it. Signed log noticing the ftf name corresponds with the one posted. Maybe others saw a different container. Replaced not so far behind things. Did not make any sense of the clue provided. Tftc. Took geo coin Tb to place in a more found and accessable cache so it can achieve its journey.
This was my 2nd attempt at this one. Took along my muggle husband to help as I had looked high & low last time. We had been there about 5 minutes when another car pulled up & cacher Ruru_nz from Otautau joined in on the hunt. Nice to meet another cacher.
Was just about to give up. I looked down saw something, then dismissed it as it was in the open under some long grass. Mr Hazzer bent down picked it up, then said the usual "is this what your looking for" & yes it was. TFTC tho this time around not really a quick park & grab

Decided to head this way for today's dot day smilie as I had things to get at Mitre 10. Got the opening times wrong, so they were closing the doors behind us when we left there.
As we approached GZ a car was stopped there ... another cacher? Or a farmer? Gut feeling told me they were cachers, so made the usual "have you found it yet?" greeting. Yes, they were cachers - nice to meet you Mrs Hazzer - and no, they hadn't found it.
Took us a while, and it was finally found by "Mr Hazzer". It was only then that we all got the clue.
I only accidentally meet another cacher once every few year, and Mrs Hazzer is the first cacher MRT since moving to Southland about 6 months ago. Hope to meet with others soon.

Interestingly, the log book was empty... it's only a little one, and was in two parts so maybe that important page is gone already, or in the rain it wasn't signed. Left room for the find to be recorded.

Another FTF for the day!!! We had already had a couple of runs at this cache over the last week and we had had no luck with it but with a conversation with the cache owner and a check with them, we found out that it was in place and away we went tonight. A quick grab this evening in the rain but it was worth the run for the FTF. TFTC LVL, another cool cache. [^]
