We found the wreck, the steering wheel and the cover to be removed. But no bison. Even searched the ground below. Missing, or moved, or blind. Who knows?
No luck for us today. We had a good look around and couldn't see anything.
There was a very suspicious metal ring reminiscent of what would usually be attached to a Bison so we wonder if it is gone.
We would love to know the story as to how this got here.
Oh well, great excuse to come back for another try.

The smallest and car-iest U-boat we have ever seen with a steering wheel positively bald of any place to secrete anything!! Does das Boot actually know what it is supposed to be doing??
Love this one but cache not too hard to find
We are on a road trip in our campervan to do some bike trails with geocaches along them and the plan is to head to Bowentown and on up to Whangamata then on to Pauanui. All these places have bike trails with geocaches along them so I wish to thanks the C O s who placed the geocaches along the trails as We really enjoy doing trails and getting geocaching numbers up.
Other geocaches were also sought out as we went along to help fill the day in. We were pleased most caches were well maintained and only had 3 no finds along the way
many thanks

Easter Weekend and time to dust the bikes off and get riding. Spotted this trail a while ago and decided to have a go. One half of the team is much more confident on the bike than the other. However we spent a very pleasant several hours on the trail riding and finding caches. Probably timed it right as the trail seemed to get busier on our return trip. Can see it is a very popular activity for walkers and bikers. It was a very pretty trail and certainly the hillier aspects add some interest for the more confident rider lol. Great use of props here.. lol. SL. TFTC.
A nice little cache hide - did this fall from the road - its been here awhile

Love this cache G! Now... I have seen the odd submarine movie or two! The Hunt For Red October was one. Don't honestly think I have ever seen inside one that had steering wheels! I could be wrong maybe....lol! Maybe u-boats are different, but I'm guessing.... just guessing... that this cache might be a slight fabrication of the truth! Not calling you a liar G, but I sense a slight hint of wanting this cache to be more than it's worth.. some might say turbo charging! Lol,,,
The cache was found as per the hint item! I can verify that! No fabrication of the truth here!

Was up this way for the Leadfoot Festival of Speed and noticed I had a couple more caches this way to clear the area again.
This one proved very tricky. I looked around the obvious area but was reluctant to spread my search area amongst the rusty relic.
Was all about to give in when I moved my foot and found the cache right where I was standing half way down the bank.
I tied the bison up behind the wheel as I have no idea where it is supposed to be. Hopefully it will last.
Thanks for bringing me here.

Found this one while on a walk with the granddaughters. Good to see the cache is back on the track TFTC
I had a bit of a job extracting this cache as it was well pushed in but got it out in the end.Made it a bit easier for the next person on replacement. An interesting collection of items. TFTC
This was a last minute planned trip for just the morning to try and get a few numbers for the latest bl**dy souviner challange by Groundspeak. So as it had been a while since I had been over here I thought that starting along this area and working my way south was an option (also would tidy up the map).
I arrived earlier than anticipated so collected the five at the end of the trail were collected as the light was changing and then went and got the opposing end before heading South.
Thank you for placing these along here and giving me a reason to stop on by. Next time I come over it will be to shoot up the hill
Another nice little collection by the master "G-2", feels good to be back collecting a few of this CO's, THanks for all your work Glynn.
Thanks for the placement, Thanks for the cache

Day 2 of our Whangamata holiday and on the quest for more caches and some fun winter beach time. Decided today we would head to Pauanui to tackle the cycle trail and a few others.
Wasn't sure what to expect with this one but it all made sense on arrival. Soon spotted the cache and had another rest on the plentiful seats while we signed the log.

Time to revisit Pauanui. Last time I was here was in the 70's. Also wanted to give my new e-bike another run.
Aye aye, sir. I found a TOTT (a sextant?) to assist with the retrieval of the cache.
Cheers for the cache.

I remember this from the last time we searched. An interesting wreck and would be interesting to find out how it got there- or maybe conjecture produces more interesting tales! Thanks for reinstating this cache G-2.
Find number 3909. I had done this trail before but missed on two so it was back today to rectify this. I spent some time looking in the wrong place before reading information on the cache page. I spent some more time searching the real GZ but could not locate. Then I spotted it on the ground. Pleased to make the find. After signing i tucked it away in its hide. Thank you for the placement.
Thought this was going to be hard but quickly grabbed it with Maxs help. Tftc
I was pleased to spot this one quite quickly. I never like this kind of stuff very much but I have enjoyed the work and all the info TFTC
Having walked up Mt Pauanui this morning and wanting to stay local to Pauanui today I decided on this trail which I’d been eyeing since arriving on Saturday.
This was a pantomime moment for me as was looking seaward. “It’s behind you!”
Tricky to get out.
Thanks for placing and greetings from the .

Another well placed hide. Enjoyed walk here in lashing rain. Area here reminds me my beloved Ireland. Rain was a cherry on top of the cake. Found it after reading cache description. All good here. TFTC
Bumped into kiwis69 and sons on the trail today and again at GZ. They also hadn't found this one so we searched together. Found a likely hide but no sign of logbook or bison tube. The item we found seemed to have matched the theme of this cache but nothing within. Another DNF here for us unfortunately .
Well, we are in the same boat (submarine!?) as mike-miss ... no joy for us either! It seems the periscope must have gone down before we arrived.
Found mikemiss here but didn't find a log book. Will send a pic to CO of what we thought might be the cache holder, just in case it needs maintenance ... but I've been wrong before
Another fun G--2 cache.
Didn't know what I would find here but with the name, the cache was soon spotted.
Good use of local materials. SL

Cool one! I remember this car from a previous caching walk with the kids. I was glad to have tweezers with me! Signed our initials only. This was the last cache for us along this trail. Thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks for inspiring us to come here.
11.30am - Large amounts of caching have been on the back burner since the Squirrel had his eye surgery. Cleared to go we have been looking at the Pauanui area for some time now and noted a lot of new caches have been added in the area recently.
Plan made and off we went. Day turned out to be very hot and with lots of water on board we will be okay. Decided to start on the new trail first then look at the others afterwards.
Caches didn't pose to many problems with some easier than others, scrambled up banks, read previous cachers comments to help us find. Then the good camoes etc. We seemed to be the only walkers on track apart from a few cyclist. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap) on a hot, Auckland Anniversary holiday... I am recovering from eye surgery, and haven't been out caching in a while... Today's efforts are going to be testing...
We arrived at the roadside and could already see a group of cyclists. This set the scene for the entire length of track. We were never really alone for any great periods of time; and to make it more challenging, groups would pass us twice travelling in either direction. The most positive aspect really, were the views along the waterway... just beautiful on a sunny, blue sky day. We liked this track and look forward to exploring its extension in the near future.
One of the things we enjoy about this CO's hides is that you never know what you're going to get. We saw this one immediately and knew it had to be the cache... How clever! The tape acts as a bit of an obstruction, and it was very hard to extract the log. Still, we appreciated this interesting hide. TFTC.

The final day of our mini break to the Coromandels. We were interested to see what we would find at this cache site, and we were not disappointed. Examined the remains, and retrieved what we needed before taking it to the nearby seat. But like others before us we struggled to remove the logsheet. More like Down periscope than Up. Eventually we decided to add another small roll of log paper on top of the original stuck-fast roll. Yep, that works. TFTC.
I was staying at Tapu on the other side of the hill and it was too windy to go fishing so caching it was

Found it! Pretty crafty idea, however try as I might I couldn't get the log out. TFTC
{FTF} Oh my goodness! where does one start? the hint had me scratching my head, the D/T rating had me thinking this is not meant to be too bad? and luckily for me the finding was the easy part. It was the extracting of the log that took the longest time.
Due to me travelling light no tools where being carried, and each time I went to grab the log it would slip away, deeper into its hiding place. Many minutes where lost, I looked at the relic for something that might give me the help I needed, but nothing came into view. Eventually the log did come out sufficiently for me to grab it, and I can report no log or cache was damaged in its extraction. Just a few worry lines from this cacher as I was wondering how I was going to explain "why" I did not sign the log Luckily that did not happen today.
Thanks for the hide, and bringing us here today!
