Now off the main cycleway and on to the tramping track. A quick find - tftc

14-Feb-24
Found without signal and no hints. Old school caching. Thanks.

14-Feb-24
TFTC. We enjoyed cycling a small part of this trail. Internet was weak and/or nonexistent so we just had to guess at the best hiding spots and got this one

12-Feb-24
An easy find, but Mr Curzzz had dropped me to walk alone & meet him. Sorry, my arthritic hands failed to open the inner container, so I signed on the side of it.

26-Sep-23
Great day out with the kids

11-Jul-23
On a winter Roadie around the South Island, picking up the occasional cache along the way.

Found on nice wander out to Picnic Point and back.

16-Apr-23
Bit of a side trip on foot.

Great day for a ride with the kids and dad while picking up some caches. The kids stay really engaged and motivated having another cache just up the track.

Thanks for all the effort putting these out and maintaining them.

Smile Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the NZMCA ‘Southshore’ Campsite at Hokitika … we decided to go for a bike ride today, riding the Mananui Tramline Section of the WCWT … we had previously walked a couple of parts of this trail & cleaned up some of the caches … today was to pick up the missing caches … we made a small detour to go out to Picnic Point to ‘grab’ the 3 x caches out there … a great day out in the sunshine … this cache easily found, completed & replaced … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,002 for us.

16-Feb-23
This afternoon we decided to ride a bit of this trail. It was a nice ride and we saw a number of groups of cyclists. We decided to head down to the lake to have a break. We left the bikes by a tree and walked this track. A nice quick find. Thanks for placing and maintaining the cache

06-Feb-23
Time to finally do some maintenance on this part of the track. We came armed with umbrellas to walk the track and just as we pulled into the carpark it started absolutely bucketing down with heavy rain. Thankfully we decided to wait it out and it wasnt long before it had eased to just spit. As we walked passed to check on the next one along the track we stopped here to check on this one. The outer container had a small whole which had let some cockroaches in but the inside container was doing its job and keeping them out. All good here. Happy Caching Smile

14-Jan-23
Found with Cympull. Nice trail to lake although you do have to watch footing. TFC

14-Jan-23
Thanks for your amazing cache. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches.

Cheers, Cympull.

05-Jan-23
Weather isn't looking to great today with some rain every now and then hopefully not going to get to wet but the plan is to walk along the whole track to add to my 100km walked in January challenge picking up as many caches as I can find on the way and then walk back to the van. Decided to go down to the picnic spot as well while on the track. This one was a quick find with some guests(roaches) in the cache though.

Really enjoyed the bike ride through this trail. Some quick finds before the sandflies found us, but an easy ride, and was cool on a very warm West Coast day. TFTC

03-Jan-22
Found while out for a bike ride in the area. We stopped to walk into Picnic Point. A lovely wee spot and worth the walk in. TFTC

Found with Kiwimykl. Today is the third day of our visit, and todays mission is to do the Mahinapua Tramway on our MTBs. Little did we know that this was also part of the WCWT, but we couldn't work out how the distance markers worked here. We managed to get all but one of the caches on this tramway and a lot of the time struggled to interpret the hints, even after we had found the cache. I apologise for the generic log, but with so many similar caches done in a short time, it is hard to write something individual about each one. Where something stood out I will try to mention it.

Kiwimykl and I decided to spend a few days based in Greymouth between Christmas and New Years as a geocaching break from our greater family, who we are having three camping/caravanning holidays between 17 Dec 2021 and 24 Jan 2022. Over five days we cached the 'Grey' area taking in such places as the Larriken Track, Omutumotu Bush Walk, Mahinapua Tramway, Brunner Mine Site including both sides of the Grey River as far as Stillwater, Hokitika Gorge, Woodstock Rimu Heritage Trail, Rewanui Walkway, some Survivor series puzzles we missed on a previous visit as well as a few PnGs in between the various locations. Our logs were either in full or abridged to KM + ND as log space permitted.

Thanks to all to CO's who placed and maintained these caches, especially G7&M and H&H. However from the amount of pill bottles used as cache containers, we have serious concerns about your respective health and wish you all the best in that respect. As a token of our gratitude, we left a token of our appreciation behind which will become apparent in due course.

TFTC G7&M

29-Dec-21
Found with NZDi. Full log to follow.

07-Dec-21
Hint worked well here for an instant find, the fact that the cache was rolling on the ground also contributed to a QEF. Rescued TB that looked in need of attention, signed log and tried to jam cache into position so it won't be so easily moved. TFTC Smile.

19-Nov-21
We came to the coast with our cat Coco to bring home Mr C's cousin and have a wee holiday. Today we were dropped off at the Rimu end of track so we could walk to other end. A lovely walk today to bring us past these caches. We were on way to our lunch spot. Great home you have here. Thanks for this cache gracie 7+ Mum.

Day 16 of our South Island roadie & last day before we head home tomorrow. It's been an amazing trip & this days plans won't disappoint either. Perfect weather again, and we have a few things planned for today. First stop the Hokitika gorge, then the treetop walk (I didn't think this through, as I hate heights & this walk was a challenge for me!), a walk down an old tram line to Lake Mahinapua & an adventure lab at the Woodstock/Rimu heritage area.

An afternoon walk along the old tramline to Lake Mahinapua & a few caches snapped along the way. A lovely walk through stunning West Coast bush & the view of the lake at the picnic area, truly beautiful on a day like today Another quick find here.

TFTC

06-Nov-21
I found this one exposed, and open. Soon sorted that out. Replaced better with rock on top and bark camo. Had to wait for the e bike group who were ghosting us to make their way past from the lookout. TFTC Gracie7.

The 16th and penultimate day of our road trip and we are in Hokitika. Perfect weather again, and we have a few goals for today - the Hokitika gorge, the treetop walk, and some nearby caches down a track to Lake Mahinapua. That pretty much filled in the day as it was a cruisy late start. There was an adventure lab thrown in as well. Cheers all COs. Must be getting close to home, some familiar names popping up…..

Tufty and I decided to cyclocache along that part of the West Coast Wilderness Trail between the Hokitika River Bridge and Tree Tops.
We dumped our ebikes not long after starting down the Picnic Point Track and took to our 'shanks ponies'. No problems finding this cache with a hint like that. Big Grin TFTC gracie7 + Mum.

Second day of a two week motorhome excursion, heading via the Coast to the lower South Island, picking up a few caches along the way – 13 today. After enjoying the Treetop Walk, we decided to walk part of this very pleasant trail. Another quick find. #3322. TFTC.

11-Jul-20
Out on the Mahinapua trail today to check on a couple of the Mahinapua Months and of course that means we checked on all the caches on the way passed aswell. There was abit of water in this container so the logbook was quite damp. We replaced the logbook and added another container inside the bucket to keep it a regular size. All good here again. Happy Caching Smile

27-Jun-20
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on the second day of our 3 day trip to Hokitika. We have our bikes with us this trip so are keen to bike some more bike trails on a lovely spring like day.
We left our bikes at the track junction, and I'm pleased we did, though judging by the tyre tracks, some intrepid cyclists carried on for quite some distance on their bikes. TFCT.

27-Jun-20
#18400. I got to the track junction a bit before Troodles. I took one look at the side track and decided we'd leave the bikes at the junction. Quick find here. Log book is damp but in reasonable shape given the nature of the container. TFTC.

Found on a three day caching journey over to the West Coast. We really enjoyed the challenging hours spent in solving the many puzzle caches and now the signing off on the log books. We had a great spell of weather as we traveled along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. TFTCSmileSmile

26-Dec-18
Missed this track when we e-biked the trail a few days previously, so took the opportunity while we were walking this section to really take in the bush.

Logbook was a bit damp, no problem ATM, but it could get worse given the propensity for rain on the Coast.

TNLN. TFTC.

13-Oct-18
Headed over to the coast for the weekend as we are working here Monday and Tuesday. LilScissors and I decided to bike the tramline as I remember it being fun And it was again. Cheers for the smiles.

21-Apr-18
yes it did get muddier
Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.

06-Apr-18
A nice and quick find. This side track is a lot wetter and boggier than the main one. Fairly staright forward tough. Cheers.

Today was a day spent in and around Hokitika, with the weather mostly overcast, and only a wee bit of rain later in the day. Had a great time on some walks, and finding some puzzles and multis.

Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

31-Mar-18
Time for one more walk today, and what luck it has 10 caches on it. Smile - Bitsprayer

01-Mar-18
It was time to head south into new territory for me to cache.

It was time to come around to the other side of the lake. Didn't bring any picnic gear with me.

Cheers for the cache.

22-Feb-18
Found while studying weka along this track, no sandflies around today .

29-Jan-18
Finally it's time for a Christmas break and some time away from work. Time for Mrs KE and I to pack up our newly converted camping car and head out into the wilderness for a few nights. The West Coast looked inviting and there might even be time for some geocaching. If we can remember how to do that. Smile

Found this one on the way out after coming across a few muggles here on the way in. Really nice walk.
Thanks gracie7 + Mum for the cache.

02-Oct-17
This cache was visited twice, the first time to find it and sign the log and the second to retrieve the walking pole left behind.
Thank you gracie7 + Mum.

02-Oct-17
We don't always have enough time to venture much beyond Greymouth when visiting family but today was a dedicated "around Hoki-Day". We cached out around Lake Kaniere some time ago so today it was Lake Mahinapua's turn after doing the new bug series along Stafford Loop Road. Our hearts sunk when we noticed the sign: Track Closed. Did that mean just this cache along the Mananui Tramline? Closer inspection proved our fears were unfounded. This is a great walk with good incentives. After signing the log we were on our way again with Picnic Point our final destination. I didn't mean to leave my walking pole behind but it was no hardship. Picked it up on the way out. Thank you gracie7 + Mum

01-Oct-17
The Seagnoid, Zara Toby and I are off for an expedition to the West Coast for a long weekend. Left Zara with her friend Total Span. With Ross behind us we are back to explore Mahinapua again.
Enjoyed the walk along here last time. This time lets take Jack and Jill (our bikes) for a spin. Now to Picnic Point. Loved the photo just before the turn off and the same view today. Amazing not a lot of change. Track now gets gnarly so its time to park up Jack and Jill and start walking.
The GPS took a while to settle here so we were hunting there instead of here for a while. Finally snagged and tagged. Loving this forest walk. Some great trees still here. Cheers

01-Oct-17
On a three-day geocaching extravaganza with Taybeedragon. We had both cached down this trail before, but didn't get very far, mainly because the caches didn't get very far. They still do not get very far, but it is twice what they did before, and so we are back.
But this is not a cycling track. back to normal tramping grade, so we ditched the bikes and set off on foot.
The photo at the junction back there made be think about ladies in the old days wearing long dresses coming through here. They must get quite grubby.
Get to the cache location... It will be there! No, GPS says 10m further on. So we check 10m further on, and then the GPS says 10m back, back at the original guess. And there it was. Trust your instincts!

04-Aug-17
No problems here behind the big tree.
Cheers
