Found whilst in Wee Jasper for the schools 125th anniversary. This took a few minutes to locate as my GPS sent me further away from the cache but the clue got me back on target.TFTC
Nice views over the water.Lovely day to be out and about. Decided a trip to Wee Jasper was a good idea to celebrate International Geocaching Day with Kittykatch, contesta, Tankengine, Smittengranny and barb2e. Thanks for getting me out and about Tankengine
After a breakfast event to start IGD, a group of us set out to clear out an area to the north west of Canberra. We didn't quite succeed but almost did, and we were all very happy with our achievements. Our group consisted of barb2e, Kittykatch, Joolay, Tankengine and contesta. Firstly many thanks to them for a fabulous day out and then to all COs for making today possible. Especially TE who owned so many of these caches and was doing maintenance. All caches found were signed and returned to their hiding place.
Wee JasperInternational Geocaching Day 2025I took a road trip to Wee Jasper to find a bunch of caches with contesta, Joolay, Tankengine, Smittengranny and barb2e. Lots of water n the river here. A pity you cant camp here any more. Thanks for the hide Tankengine
Out for the day with Smittengranny and isopeda to collect some caches on a country road less travelled. Tftc
Find # 1260617/8/2024 Out and about in IGD with Joolay, KittyKatch, Tankengine, barb2e, and Smittengranny on a freezing chilly winter day. Though warming up a bit as the day goes on.All caches found, and logged. Thanks Tankengine for Carey's Camping

Accompanied with 63ROOS, Groots_1983, trip to Wee Jasper for some caches and visited town GIN shop for lunch....tks
Found while exploring around the area. I had the area all to myself and took far too long to spot it. TFTH
Out camping at Billy Grace reserve again with friends. Took a little detour on the way to get this one. A few campers here today with many kayaks. Nice day for a paddle. Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache! Found after visiting Wee Jasper for a scenic drive. We had to dodge cow pats to get to the cache and fight away the flies but the view was worth it! Found with Wombatshark29.
TFTC! Stopped for some lunch on way home from long weekend. Found with some muggle friends
Found 14:26 15/7/2023 after stopping here for lunch. A lovely spot. Thank you Tankengine for the cache and bringing me to this location.
#8703 ANZAC Day 2023 and it's a beautiful day, too good to stay at home. We were prevaricating between Wee Jasper and Big Hole Marble Arch and Wee Jasper won out.
I haven't been out this way for some time but I've always loved the landforms here. We had hoped to get into Carey's Cave but some large groups had filled out the available slots. But we largely found what we aimed for.
Got stung by an ant here. But quiet here today.
Thanks Tankengine for the Traditional Cache

Found it but could not sign the log due to masses of ants trying to bite us, bring gloves TFTC.
#6039.
This one was pretty well camoflaged, but we managed to spot it in the end. This looks like a lovely camp ground, but there were no campers around today. TFTC!
Back story:
The weather looked a bit gloomy today, but we weren't in the mood to sit at home so we decided to hit the road for some exploring and finding some caches. We dressed according to the chilly, wet weather, but the day turned out beautifully with only a couple of short drizzles during our trip. We found 14 caches with one DNF.

A straightforward find here on a crisp morning while exploring Wee Jasper. So green!
Thanks, Tankengine.
Thanks, Tankengine.
Out with Aquilus1 and Tankengine on a maintenance run, pick up some finds and just have a look around the area.
Wee Jasper is such a wonderful area to explore. The locals were nice, the land so pretty and the river was full.
This cache: Another great spot. The ants nest made it fun to retrieve. I got rather down and dirty on this one. Tftc!!!

After a night of heavy rain through the region it wasn't sure what sort of day this would be with plans made for a day out in the Wee Jasper area. With Tankengine and dty73 a little cache maintenance was the target and a number of fine looking caches waited to be found. Although it was a little damp when we left the worst had passed and the rain spared us which is the way it should be.
A very scenic drive and a lovely area out around Wee Jasper, the morning grey and cloudy but still lovely which soon led to a warm and sunny afternoon, its a very pretty area regardless of the day. So good to see everything very green and lush, dams and waterways fall and flowing. It was nice to be out with good company in such a scenic area, a very peaceful and enjoyable day as we explored and cached. Honorable mention to the long standing local out for his morning walk in his gumboots that was a wealth of local knowledge and a charming fellow to have met.
After stopping at an interesting to be continued location... and bumping into a charming and interesting local and his highlights tour locations, we came here. Took a bit to find as ants have buried it within their home, very muddy to dig out (Thanks dty73!) Log was quite muddy but dry so last finders had the same issues too it seems. Pretty spot, thanks for the cache Tankengine.

Plan A for today were the Pieces Creek Scare series, but with all the rain I was not keen to do that. I ended up joining Fitzy_1965 & MinnieK for a run out to Wee Jasper. I was surprised how many caches there are out that way since I was last there. The road has been fully sealed since my last visit too, so that is how long it has been.
No luck finding this one today. A very neat fence line here, nicely trimmed grass as well.
Thanks.

In the area to grab an earthcache, and a few others.
We looked for some time, before giving up on this cache.
Sadly a DNF here, for us today.
Thanks for the hunt anyway, Tankengine.

Came out here to check out the local bridge, but there's always time for caching this one was under natural cam but a different angle had me seeing this one quick enough. Signed and replaced back Under the natural cam - got the log a bit dirty - sorry. TFTC.
DNF at 9:58
Had a good look around, but this one was just clever for us today.
Thanks Tankengine for the cache, anyway

Out today to catch some caches on my 10th day (final caching day) in Canberra with RoddyC and Darksidedan.
After a false start we eventually got going on a different target. Nice drive into the bush and then back to a couple new suburbs to make a few finds.
The old grass cuttings seem to be building up along the fence line. After knocking down a few of these piles, we quickly found the cache. Alas, it was in the middle of the ants nest. Moving on, only got one bite so I guess we were fortunate. (But the sting lasted several hours.)

In the area to get a FTF but had to settle for a 2TF. This was an easy find but there were these huge black ants that had made there nest over the cache. Signed dsd
GLISS! was itching to grab some earth caches, I needed an oldie for my Jasmer and we were both in the mood of a country drive, so headed out to clean up this trail a little. Such a lovely (and highly successful) adventure!
At this one GLISS! was the brave advanced party plowing through endless dried thorns. I came next, grateful for the path she had made!! Very glad to have the cache in hand and be back to safety. Thanks for the cache.

I was on a mission today with Nibletricecakes to collect 2 earthcaches (doubling my total number of earthcaches this year) and pick up an oldie. Thanks to the CO's help and NRC 's determination, we can claim a smiley on this one. Very prickly around here. TFTC Tankengine.
Found while visiting the area with a 3 year old grandchild and found the cache in good condition Cheers

With uncertainty about being able to get out and about over the next few weeks, I went for a country drive to top up my find numbers for today. Thanks to the recent replacement, this was a quick find to avenge a DNF. TFTC.

Decided to check on this, and discovered the cache was missing! - Cache has been replaced, but in a slightly different spot.
Campground closed, so walked in to have a look around. Spent a long time poking around in various holes without luck. Contacted CO for another hint and it turns out the hide was in a place I checked early on and took a photo of. Couldn't find the cache, and unwilling to reach deep into the hole (arm wouldn't fit anyway). Couldn't find anything or hear the familiar clunk with the stick I was using. It may be gone, or *very* deep in the hole.

@1230
On the way to the ACT middle distance orienteering champs at Wee Jasper. I left early enough to attempt to clear out the caches in te area. I looked here for a few minutes without spotting anything. As time was approaching for my race to start, I decided to leave it for afterwards. However, I also wanted to do the Carey's Cave tour afterwards. The tour started late at 1530 (instead of 1500). By the time we finished it was 1745! Quite a bit longer than expected. By now it was starting to get dark, and I needed to get back to Canberra, so I reluctantly left it for another time.

Great little cache - such an interesting area! The geological formations are fascinating. We thought it might be from lava flows of a volcano. Thanks for bringing us here! - Adam & Kahlia.

Found with Rambolina on a Road Trip to the mostly unknown, all over NSW and VIC, stopping bye for the Parkville MEGA
Easy Find
Surprising that this is actually a camp spot, when much better ones are nearby and the SAME price.

No campers today or any day I have been past .
Probably as the water levels are so down .
Remember when the water was high up under the main bridge years ago.
Just a trickle now .
Thanks to Tankengine for the nice rest stop and professional cache container .

A bit of searching amongst the limestone outcrop before finding. TFTC.
After going to the caves I stopped off and found it after a few minutes of searching. This is a nice quiet spot for camping. It doesn't have the river and shower facilities, but campers could always go to one of the other sites for those. Lots of sheep here too! TFTC.
Wonderful afternoon out to Wee Jasper with fitzy_1965. I've never ventured this way but will definitely be back. The rock formations are absolutely amazing....next time I better not drive so I can really enjoy the view.
We had to go a bit off-road for this one.....my little car was almost covered in the long grass. Quick find once we made it to GZ.

14955. Found during a drive out to Yass and Wee Jasper with minniek to fill in a calendar gap.
I've cached down this road towards Wee Jasper and Tumut many times over the years. Carey's Cave has always been a family favourite to visit. Never stopped here before though. Grass was very long - nearly swallowed minniek's little car as we drove up towards GZ. We rock-hopped the final 30m for a nice quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, and headed off to the next one.
Thanks Tankengine !!

Another cache in an interesting location Tankengine.
You always put in the extra effort with your caches.

Fishing this weekend in Burrinjuck so took a run up towards Wee Jasper to grab this one. Lucky we came by boat as the road was almost a traffic jam as all the alternative people were headed to the Dragon Dreaming festival.
A few had camped in the area overnight and were getting an early start to the festivities.
Different and unusual is all I can say. They went hard all weekend and we could hear them 5 kms up the dam at 5 in the morning. They certainly had some staying power.
Cool cache too.

On the way to 8000 finds... only about 300 to go!
I went on a recreational caving weekend in Wee Jasper with my bushwalking club this weekend. Only I didn't arrive at the campground untill 11 at night! A very cold weekend, survived mainly by my nice and warm -12 degree sleeping bag, and spending most of the time underground. We didn't exit the last cave exploration until 2pm Sunday, so after we showered and packed up camp I didn't get around go caching until 3pm!
But there have been quite a few new caches published around Yass since I was there last, and a couple of older ones that I DNFed previously, I had a lot to look for before it got too dark and the rain started to fall down.
In the end I managed to find 25 today and reach a total of 7707 finds.
Thanks for all the caches!

Plans were made to head out on Saturday to do a spot of caching but the weather wasn't the best so Saturday turned into Sunday for us as the weather was beautiful today. RW was in need of some Earth caches to log a challenge cache she had signed while we were away awhile ago. So a drive was in order to collect two of them for her and off to Wee Jasper we went. Lovely day out and about.
Remeber being out this way as a kid on a camp with school.... a loooonnnnggg loooonnnnggg time ago.
Another quick on for us here.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine and thanks for the company RW.

With the horrid weather yesterday, caching didn't happen so plans were made to get out and about today as both myself and FFLL had itchy feet. We decided a drive out to Wee Jasper was in order and mother nature put on her best for us It was an amazing day out in the country, HEAPS of photos taken, lots of laughter and chatter. A brilliant day of caching with no DNF's to boot
As we continued on, this was the next one on the radar for today. I personally have never been out this way so I was enjoying every minute of todays adventure. Parked up nearby and made a short stroll over towards GZ where the cache was quickly location.
Thanks heaps for the company today FFLL and thanks for the cache Tankengine [^]

Found this cache while camping at Billy Grace reserve and caving in the nearby wild caves. There were a couple of muggle camper vans nearby, so I had to be careful not to be seen. Found the cache quickly and did the legals. The cache is in good condition. TFTCM

Friday 14 April 2017 (Public Holiday for Good Friday) - a glorious sunny Autumn day in the low 20s with a brilliant blue sky without a cloud on sight. MuggleHusband drove an unplanned 170kms windy round car trip from Canberra to smell the fresh air. I took the opportunity to collect 4 caches (1 Earthcache & 3 trads) while heading to and from Carey's Cave but did not enter any caves as the wait for the next tour was too long. Quick and easy find. TFTC Tankengine.
Collected on the way back to camp from Carey's Cave. This was a challenging one, given how accurate GPSes are the hint was not overly obvious. After poking lots of holes and crevices with sticks, a previous log gave me an idea, and the cache was found not long after. Not what I would call a small cache though, I had prepared to search for something tiny. TFTC Tankengine
Second place I looked. After reading previous logs I brought a glove, but it wasn’t needed. These are fascinating boulders. TFTC Tankengine.
Arrived at the camping area to evaluate if we should stay here overnight. Decided against it, mainly because of lack of shadow which was definitely needed on such a hot day.
Before heading off to a better place, we went for this cache. The GPSr lead us smack on to the location where we quite easily found what we were looking for. Noted that we were only the second to sign this log.

Well we worked pretty hard to pull this one out (quite literally in the end).
We arrived with the temps still hovering over 30 and checked all the obvious spots, phew that was hard work...but still no cache! Surely a two star Tankengine cache can't beat us, but after an hour of searching we decided to head to reception high ground and ping the CO. Reception was very on and off, I'm sure the Mars rover has better mobile reception than we did at this point! Managed some limited comms, which went something like this.....shhhhh....rock.....shhhh, more noise, crack....top...shhhh!
Okay, so it was back down and for another shot, the campers by the lake must have thought we were lost at this stage. Another search pursued and once again empty handed. Found some interesting artefacts and a giant ants nest. Loved the limestone and formations slowly forming, imagine what lies even deeper.
Then...shhh....incoming photo...shhh....download failed! Ahhhh, so up we went to get a better signal once again and eventually we had some much needed verification. Hmmm, we searched that spot (and found said ants nest), but our persistence demanded one more look. So back down for another look. With gloves on and a bit of a dig the cache was miraculously pulled from the deep. Wow, didn't expected to go caving today Anyway it was nice to make the find for a *FTF* at 19:36. Replaced the cache so the next cacher's can make a much easier find (and hopefully avoid sticking your hand in too deeply).
Thanks Tankengine, we do love this area and all the geology associated with it. And thanks for the assistance, don't think I would have stuck my hand that deep in the furious ant nest without it.
