The big tree is no longer on its base-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --French version below-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Short late log but more complete now that we are back home. Our vacation will take us to the other side of the world to the land of the Maoris. After many, many hours of flying, a passage through China on the way there and through the United States of America on the way back, we will finally arrive in Christchurch which will be the starting point of our journey. We will enjoy the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and we will go back towards the North Island via State Highway 1. To combine business with pleasure, we will take regular breaks and small detours according to the caches that seem the most accessible to us.With a little more than 3500 km in 20 days, we will have discovered many facets of this island which is soothing. We will have to come back because there are so many places that we have not done . In broad strokes, the path will go from Christchurch to the Kaikoura Peninsula then towards Picton for the crossing to Wellington.New island, new road, and by State Highway 2 we go towards Hastings and Napier. We will leave the seaside for several days to go to Tongariro and Taupo. We will continue north towards Rotorua and Hamilton (without forgetting a detour via Hobbiton ) A detour to the Coromandel Peninsula and finally the almost north of the island with Whangarei and Waitangi to learn the history of this country. There will only be a few days left to spend towards Auckland and its suburbs before taking the plane back to the grayness of our European autumn. The majority of the boxes will be found, we have abandoned those where our English was lacking and where we could not understand the clue. Thanks to all the owners who brightened up our path, who took us to incredible places (that's also geocaching)In short, we had a great vacation, saw beautiful places that simply ask us to come back. We learned a lot about the history of this country and its traditions, it's a great motivation for our destinations.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Petit log en retard mais un peu plus complet maintenant que nous sommes rentrs la maison. Not able to locate this one. There were two areas we looked - one large tree had been cut down, and the other (where navigation led us), we wouldnt find it.

Accio 10:46:17Staying in Pauanui for the middle week of our New Zealand holiday - with T4mmmy - today it was time to walk this trail. An easy 5kms (each way) amble which took just on 3 hours car back to car. Nice area, calm, quiet beautiful. Loopy cachers - took a bit of scrabbling around to unearth this one. Thanks G-2 for entertaining me at this location.Cool *{Overall find #11710}* Cool

Found with Pprime` ... what a great walking trail . Under pine needles

08-Nov-23
So sad I didn't find this one. Only been NZ for two days and this was my first search and came up empty handed. Lots of prickly bushes and webs. better luck next time, me.

22-Oct-23
Trying to find this cache made me a bit loopy. Searching all over. After reading some previous logs, had more of a thorough search and came up trumps. Log getting full. Tftc

Holiday find

19-Dec-22
TaurusSix and I are in New Zealand for a three weeks holiday. We love New Zealand and have had lots of wonderful experiences here previously. This time we have decided to focus our attention on three destinations for one week each, all in the North Island. The Coromandel Peninsula, Waiheke Island and The Bay of Isles. We are very mindful of not focusing all our attention of the holiday on geocaching, however it will still play an important part. We are deliberately focusing on caches that involve some walking, great views, interesting attractions , history and general points of interest. And this will all happen in between exploring, swimming , walking, doing touristy things and relaxing .

Day 2 - We are now based for the next little while at Pauanui on the Coromandel Peninsula and we woke up to a glorious sun rise. We are ready for the day ahead and exploring this lovely little town. After a very leisurely breakfast we headed to the beach and river mouth area where we undertook a local Adventure Lab, followed by an interesting multi before taking a beautiful scenic river walk with a trail of caches along the way . Part of the walk was a boardwalk through the mangroves which was quite impressive. We are actually very relieved that there are no snakes in New Zealand , we would not be attempting some of these spots at this time of year in Australia

This is our thirteenth cache find for the day as we literally loop back along this trail. We have thoroughly enjoyed the walk , lots of bird life and fungi as a bonus as well as a good array of cache hides. This one took a little while and was very happy to finally find and log. Thanks for this trail G-2 and providing a very enjoyable afternoon.

We're staying in Tairua for a few days break and today we traveled over to Pauanui to ride the cycleway and pick up caches. Great spot here, TFTC Smile

Beginning to wonder how tall you are. Perfectly my height. Generally it's usually well above my head height. Lol. Tftc

24-Oct-22
No problems here, nice quick find, cheers

21-Oct-22
I wasn't paying attention here and took the wrong path. As soon as the distance started to climb, I realized and doubled back.
No problems after that.
Thanks for putting this here

A quick look at the geocaching trails map to see which path I need to take, and it's a right turn at the junction that gets me to GZ
Quick find once there thanks!

15-Jan-22
I had made a call out to team SEAC to see if anyone wanted to wonder to Pauanui for day outing to grab some caches. Ended up with a swamp of us wanted to go! So on the day itself, we packed up the bikes, picnic food and embarked on this great journey! All logs were signed as "SEAC" to save space.

A quick find. TFTC

15-Jan-22
We planned a Team SEAC outing to the Tangitarori Wetlands Walk and the surrounding area to cache and spend a day enjoying the Pauanui area. We joined Uncle Sam, Keylev, Hemaludy, Stick-a-crane, NurseDr and B4Dawn for the day and completed the bike ride in about 3 hours. After a lunch break we then completed a few more caches around the Pauanui and Tairua. A great day with great friends.
No loopy trial for us here, although a few of the team went a little loopy on the way back! TFTC!

15-Jan-22
A plan was hatched amongst a few of the Team SEAC crew from south and east Auckland to spend the day in Pauanui and surrounding areas to find some caches. This trail was the first target. Mr and Mrs HeMaLuDy decided to walk the trail while the others biked, so they dropped us off at one end for us to get started and then they went to the other end to get started with their bikes.
Really enjoying the walk along the track today. Another good find here

15-Jan-22
As luck would have it NZTravellers, B4Dawn and I realised that all our other work and social commitments aligned to give us some free time this week so what better way to put this to use then some afternoon / evening / night caching the WHOLE week!!! After 4 weekdays of very long days (work in the morning, then caching all evening) we took a break on friday to get ready for a bigger Saturday to finish the week off. We had many more Team SEAC keen to join this one which we haven't done in a little while with all the lockdowns etc so it was a great day!

I went loopy on the way back but on the way out took this route with the rest of the crew to find the cache...quick find here.

Thanks for the cache.

15-Jan-22
B4Dawn posted in our group chat of a trip down this way, a beautiful part of the country, to locate some of the local caches....some of us had found some but the majority were unfound by the group....

Thanks to the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches, with the majority in good condition and dry...

On our bikes for this stretch of caches, with 2 of the group walking...

Signed in as "SEAC" to save logbook space.

TFTC.

Took the lower trail going in collected on the way back. All good thanks.

14-Aug-21
We found this one as we cycled from Pauanui towards the end of the trail and back again. Not too many muggles on the trail today. A quick find here and we continued on along the trail to the next one. We had to wait for a muggle cyclist to pass by, before returning the cache back to where we found it. TFTC

06-Jul-21
Sneaked this in on our way back, easy find per description and hint. Stay safe everyone

07-Jun-21
Heading along the trail I did this loop and at gz it didn't take too long for the cache to reveal itself

17-Apr-21
Anniversary weekend for Vamber and we decided to stay in a Yurt in Pauanui with the geopup. Lovely early morning walk. TFTC.

04-Apr-21
Phil must be getting fed up with this trail as he stormed ahead of the rest of us and said he’s found the cache. Turns out he hadnt. Bird went in for the find! Hint is good if you stay track level. SL TFTC

04-Apr-21
Took longer than it should’ve because of out “head height” interpretation. 13th find of the day with PhilBirdBoys. Tftc.

27-Dec-20
Loopy trails. Which way. Left our calling card here. Cheers.

Day 10 - Sunday 27 December - Tairua - up to Whenuakite and back and Pauanui power trail today. What will we find today?.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are off on another geocaching escape over Xmas, this time to the mighty Coromandel, then over to Opotiki and stop off at Rotorua to return home on 5 January. Had an fabulous time exploring many wonders of our country. Rounding up over 400 caches along the way, with a few LABS, 20 odd TMGTs, virtuals and lots of interesting earth caches to keep the mind busy. Watching the sun come up on New Years Day at Mt Maunganui was spectacular. Lots of walking and even more driving. But had an awesome time. Thanks to all COs who made this adventure so special.

27-Dec-20
Which way to go??? This way is worthy of a geocache, the oter way apparently not. So this way we went. Picked up a TB

Taybeedragon and I went on a tour of the Coromandel - one of the few places of New Zealand, especially of Te ika a Maui, that I have yet to explore throughly, and from there along the coast to Opotiki to see one of my many, many sisters. From 18 December to 5 January we found over 400 caches, including 12 adventure labs (60 caches), 20 or so TMGTs and a host of virtuals and earthcaches. And I hosted an event to see the sun come up on New Year's day - surprisingly popular given that it was at 5am. We climbed a lot of hills, saw some amazing beaches that were quite popular despite (or because of) the insane access to them, walk a lot of bush, entered and explored 8 gold mines and generally had an awesome time. However I am glad to be back, but now is the hard part, and I fear it will take just as long - logging!

22-Dec-20
Second time lucky found. It’s behind the biiiiiiig pine tree with the short stump to the side. A simple but clever hide. It is behind the tree. Left a trackable there Smile

What a Lovely day for a walk
Nice easy find No muggles around today

24-Mar-20
Out and about for a few days for a bit of a road trip around the Coromandel area. Day Four of my road trip. I started my travels in Coromandel Town and ended my day in Tairua. One of the objectives of my trip today was to try to find as many caches along this trail as I could. It would have been nice to have my bike with me but I had to make do with walking the trail on foot which was just fine by me. Apologies for the cut and paste logs. I'll note anything that stood out for me. This took me a bit longer to find than it should have done. Was looking too high before I finally got my hands on the cache. TFTC, Biggles.

06-Mar-20
Last cache for the day....and I got a puncture on my bike tyre a 1km before hand...so was a long walk back to the car....oh well.

Thanks for putting out all these caches.

Spent ages looking as directed by the hint and failed to find the cache. We then read a previous log and the cache was ours! Replaced as found. SL. TFTC.

05-Feb-20
Took quite a while to locate this one - climbed up and checked out a couple of trees. Then after reading a previous log I found it without needing to leave the track. Enjoying this bike trail, thanks G-2.

03-Feb-20
Oh god two fails from two starts not a great way to start this trail.

23-Jan-20
all ok

18-Jan-20
In the Coromandel for a couple of days with Team BOP. The top of our list - Whenuakura (Donut) Island is now done and dusted so it's time to see whats left on the map. This cache also wasn't in the most obvious place but it was still found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords, a good hint and a straight forward placement. Cheers G-2, TFTC Smile

23-Oct-19
No need to leave the trail, not even to bend down. Fast seen. TFTC

17-Oct-19
It's a good easy cache to find, looked around for a few minutes but found it eventually, it's next to a big tree and a stump side by side

09-Oct-19
We are in New Zealand for 10 Weeks, enjoying our parental time together with our little daughter.
Tairua is our first longer stay and we love this region from the first moment.
Today we decided to have a nice walk in this swamp land area and enjoy the beauty of the river landscape.

Found it together with Sinlkid

20-Jul-19
We took the wrong loop so had to backtrack a bit down the right one to get this cache.
It was a bit exposed so we made sure it was concealed by some natural camo. TFTC.

11-Jul-19
Tftc has been a great day out in the sun for a few hours. Will be back to finish the trail another day

02-Jun-19
We biked the other side of this loop first, so got this cache on our way back. NB. Behind the large trees were bait stations, they definitely don't want cachers poking around there! The cache is beside a stump, next to a big tree, easily accessible from the track. Note sent to G-2. Cache is all good. TFTC

02-Jun-19
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

09-May-19
Clue needs updating. Stump! Went up the bank, read clues & then came down & found it. Tftc

06-May-19
After climbing up the bank we read the logs then made an easy find
We are on a road trip in our campervan to do some bike trails with geocaches along them and the plan is to head to Bowentown and on up to Whangamata then on to Pauanui. All these places have bike trails with geocaches along them so I wish to thanks the C O s who placed the geocaches along the trails as We really enjoy doing trails and getting geocaching numbers up.
Other geocaches were also sought out as we went along to help fill the day in. We were pleased most caches were well maintained and only had 3 no finds along the way
many thanks

20-Apr-19
Easter Weekend and time to dust the bikes off and get riding. Spotted this trail a while ago and decided to have a go. One half of the team is much more confident on the bike than the other. However we spent a very pleasant several hours on the trail riding and finding caches. Probably timed it right as the trail seemed to get busier on our return trip. Can see it is a very popular activity for walkers and bikers. It was a very pretty trail and certainly the hillier aspects add some interest for the more confident rider lol. Nice hide here. SL. TFTC.

13-Mar-19
I went a bit ’off track’ on this one but soon found it.

02-Mar-19
I started on Pauanui side of trail and wasn't sure which way to go - - sign saying loopy trail didnt have a arrow---went correct way it seems - no probs with the find - glad the day hasn't heated up yet

TFTC

24-Feb-19
Well this cache sure got me going loopy! First I took a wrong turn and had to back track to get on the loop trail, when I did that all was ok, but NOT OK! Couldn't find the cache as per the hint, what am I missing. I'm missing a cache and just when I had my fair share of prickle attacks from that damned totara behind the big tree. I see someone has replaced the log further down by the stump of the smaller tree, quite reachable from the trail. I suppose that's why it was replaced there instead - so you didn't have to do any climbing to get behind the big tree.

24-Feb-19
Log later

03-Feb-19
Was up this way for the Leadfoot Festival of Speed and noticed I had a couple more caches this way to clear the area again.
After scrambling up and down the bank I eventually found it waist high while standing on the track.
Thanks for bringing me here.

This was a last minute planned trip for just the morning to try and get a few numbers for the latest bl**dy souviner challange by Groundspeak. So as it had been a while since I had been over here I thought that starting along this area and working my way south was an option (also would tidy up the map).

I arrived earlier than anticipated so collected the five at the end of the trail were collected as the light was changing. Quickly grabbed this one then went for a bike ride to collect the resbefore heading South.
Thank you for placing these along here and giving me a reason to stop on by. Next time I come over it will be to shoot up the hill Wink
Another nice little collection by the master "G-2", feels good to be back collecting a few of this CO's, THanks for all your work Glynn.Cool
Thanks for the placement, Thanks for the cache

17-Jul-18
Day 2 of our Whangamata holiday and on the quest for more caches and some fun winter beach time. Decided today we would head to Pauanui to tackle the cycle trail and a few others.

Reading the hint and noted a new bait station at Gz. Had to check this out just incase the CO was up to his normal tricks, but no that's definitely a bait station. Expanded the search and found the cache lower than expected. Glad to have it found!

08-Jun-18
Time to revisit Pauanui. Last time I was here was in the 70's. Also wanted to give my new e-bike another run.

The hint should read small tree. No need to leave path.

Cheers for the cache.

27-May-18
Nice hide

15-Apr-18
No luck today.

27-Mar-18
I was looking to high for this cache but it was the thing to do according to the hint. Paused to have a think and noticed something by my hand It was the cache - maybe workers had found it and replaced. Not sure TFTC

12-Mar-18
After the loop we had to step back a few meters to get this one

merci

19-Feb-18
Having walked up Mt Pauanui this morning and wanting to stay local to Pauanui today I decided on this trail which I’d been eyeing since arriving on Saturday.
Enjoyed the speedy walk back to this one which I could only just reach. I do like these containers, really sturdy and good seal on them will have to look for some when back home.
Back to car now and drive round to the on at the start. Missing a couple out as they seem to have numerous DNFs on them.
Thanks for placing and greetings from the .

11-Feb-18
Found it on the way back as it was on loop trail. Like the "old style" container. TFTC

Quick easy find, while on holiday for a few days thought May as well do a few caches. Weather is holding off at the moment since its been raining most of.our trip from tauranga. Tftc

3.20pm. Had to leave this on the way in as a muggle worker was parked at GZ with his quad bike and trailer. A quick find and off.
Thank you. David & Noeline with Andrea & Natalia.

15-Oct-17
Quick pick up on the way back. Inadvertently chased a family of quails along the path

26-Aug-17
Cache number 3312. I had came around the boardwalk on the way out so left this one for the way home. The natural ledge at GZ gave me a nice seat to sit on and sign the log. Sometimes I think I must be loopy to carry on geocaching in all sorts of weather. Thanks for the placement.

School holidays and we are out with the grand children for a walk and they love to find some caches on the way. Thanks for the cache and something to make our day interesting.

24-Apr-17
Continued this nice walk today, some great finds and did not try the caches not found 2 days ago. Some are quite challenging and would question the terrain rating. TFTC

24-Apr-17
#243. At 1137, just after meeting mike-miss on bikes, I went straight to GZ for this one, and came up trumps in seconds. Mike-miss pulled up a minute or 2 later, and we had another chat. GB Leader was there too. My daily tally is now 6, four more for my daily record. But first back to Pauanui for a well-earned coffee and a pie. Tftc again G--2, and it'll be back to the trail again shortly for more of your hides.

24-Apr-17
Bumped into RogerW1nz and GB Leader looking a little curious as we headed towards them. Of course it would only be geocachers with their phones out trying to figure out how to get to this one. We had a good chat before parting company, only to meet them again at this cache. We signed the log together and this time parted ways, TFTC! Big Grin

23-Apr-17
Another nice quick find by the teens to add to the day's tally. Gorgeous autumn day for a family walk, only issue is finding a gap to look for caches between the many muggle (& caching!) cyclists today. Bumped into cycling Mikemiss on our way here, nice to catch up for 1st time in ages, TFTC
