I had yet another fantastic long weekend in Victoria which came about because of this event. Although the weather was cool, I felt warm whilst catching up with friends, discovering 2 trackables, and meeting those I'd not yet had the pleasure to chat with previously.

Thanks so much Geocaching Melbourne for hosting such an iconic event Smile

---------------------------------------------------------------------

After I collected the amazing Wozzle68 [^], we went on quite the adventure this weekend which included:

* Attending the "15 years of Events in Victoria" event in Lerderderg Gorge and I got to catch up with a number of my caching buddies [^]
* I was the first to discover 2 trackables.....hahahaha.....ChooknChunk you guys crack me up Red FaceBig Grin [^]
* Caching with the fabulous Feathertop in Bacchus Marsh after the event [:X] Cool
* Leaving the event to drive to the Mornington Peninsula to find the second oldest cache in Victoria (from the year 2000) Smile [^]
* Enjoying a yummy pizza dinner in Berwick with the lovely micaparamedic after we caught up with him earlier in the day at the event [^]
* Spending the night in a motel in Dandenong so we could then attack the Pretzel Series in Packenham the following morning Smile
* After finding about 40 cache finds out of the Pretzel Series I then drove Woz and I down past Colac - so we could find the McLooker's Challenge caches (you guys are awesome!),
* Sadly we needed to go back to Ballarat, but only after Woz and I sat in my car eating a creative and delicious dinner (oh yeah baby!!) in the dark whilst it drizzled outside....and having the funniest phone convo ever with our awesome bud Snap Happy [:o)] Big Grin
* And then I drove back to Adelaide (gotta love caffeinated energy drinks!) .....WOW....what a wonderful time I had! Surprised [:o)] WinkRazz [:X] CoolSmileBig Grin [^]

Wonderful to see so many faces from long ago! Things have changed a bit in the last 15 years! Great way to spend an afternoon.

25-Jun-17
Attended this today. It could so easily have been a worse weather day but it was fine although cold. Great to meet up with cachers older and newer as always. A good spot for an event too.

25-Jun-17
Was an honour to be part of such a memorable event (even if we only caught the tail end) and meet some lovely cachers who shared some tips of the trade!! Thanks to the organisers.

25-Jun-17
We attended your event 15 Years of Events in Victoria
Caught up with a few of the old farts of geocaching and warmed up in front of the campfire on this freezing day.
Thanks Day from Geocaching Melbourne for this event

With a huge milestone of 15 years in events there was no way we were going to miss this one.
We had a great time catching up with cachers we had not seen for too long a time and it was a cool but great day chatting about the early days of caching. I have added a couple of photos of the Original attendees and even found the original 1917 photo to show how they still look so young.
Our thanks to Geocaching Melbourne for hosting the event.

After arriving late last night and camping here with some others, we spent a lovely winters day at a beautiful site for an event.
Lots of people turned up, some old, some new and some originals.
Great to see such a huge turnout.
Thanks to GM for organising this event.

Late to the party, as per usual, but still not the last to arrive at this well attended tribute to that first event.

Missed some of the crowd, but still caught up with or met some of those original attendees. On this sunny but chill Winter afternoon.

Many thanks to Geocaching Melbourne (and especially you-know-who-you-are) for conceiving and running this event. What a great idea; glad your efforts were well rewarded.

What a great event. I am so glad I was able to attend this important bit of history. Thanks for organising this Day and all the efforts you went to to have people whop were at the original event attend this one.

After finding a few caches on the way Neville_devil, Ausfox; and I finally made it here sometime a little before 11am. There where plenty of cachers already in attendance. After some lunch, chatting to some old friends and some new ones, we headed to Blackwood and beyond in search of the elusive smileys.

Thank you Geocaching Melbourne for arranging the event

Arrived just before lunch to a crowded car park and a camping area full of geocachers participating in the festivities. Despite it being bloody cold the day was glorious and sunny. What a beautiful spot.
Great to catch up with everyone.
Thanks for creating and hosting this event Geocaching Melbourne

What a massive turn out.
We got there around 1PM after being busy in the morning.
Had lunch and a bit of a chat then off for a walk on the Ah Kow caches. Great Sunny day and it was cool to see so many original attendees.
Thanks for hosting.

24-Jun-17
Wow! Parking was at a premium when we arrived, Muggle Hubby luckily scoring a very convenient one.
Lovely to see our Interstate visitors of BabyandMrsGopher, and Goodlook, amongst the crowd. What I expected to be a small gathering, turned out to be much larger. The fire pits gathered the cachers like bees to a honeypot, the welcome warmth on the chilly day, was so very much appreciated, as was the warm hug from Mary. I think she warmed a lot of happy souls today.
Great to see how many of the original attendees were there today, including Paul who was only 11 at the first one.
Lovely to meet the winner of the trophy at the first event, and good to know he owns the one nearest to a different kind of event we are hoping to attend tomorrow at the Whroo Cemetery.
Thanks for putting this event on, it was wonderful for Muggle Hubby to reminisce about hiking through the Gorge area many years ago in Scouts.

An amazing gathering of like minded people! Clearly the caching game is going from strength to strength and is here to stay.

Our appreciation and thanks to Geocaching Melbourne for organising this event of great significance.

Watched this one with much interest. I know how much geocaching has given me since I discovered it 2 years ago so I was intrigued by the pepople who attended the even 15 years ago and who is still around and I hope in another 15 years I am still intrigued by this wonderful game we have. OzHockeyChick & I began chatting over a trackable I had released on the Geotour ( early Jan 2016) but had forgotten to activate it. She moved on the trackable after activating it and I called it OzHockeyChick and 4BNinjas friendship. It has travelled 19984 miles Australia, Russia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungry, Greece and currently in America. We have always said, perhaps we need to make our our adventures like our trackable and travel somewhere together ........ so today, we did exactly that. As suspected we had a blast and what a wonderful way to celebrate the 15 Years of the 1st geocaching event but to final celebrate a friendship of a ninja and a chick as well. A very memorable day and thanks to this humble, community of all shapes and sizes & all the beautiful colors of the rainbow ......... safe travels and may you have many more memories in the next 15 years.

24-Jun-17
What a historical event, to think that 15 years ago today was the first ever geocaching event in Victoria. At that time I was 4, not even at school yet haha. Even so I was more than happy to be a part of this celebration of our local geocaching history. As I was already out west on Friday I had decided to go out and stay at the location the night before with some other geocachers. Though arriving later into the night it was good to sit down and relax after a rather hectic day. Either way after waking up in the middle of the night to discover that my tent was starting to flood I quickly vacated into my car for a drier sleep.
Once the event had started I met many familiar and many unfamiliar faces around, and after having a good chat with most of the people there I decided it was time to make the drive back to the Mornington Peninsula. Thanks for running the fantastic Event.
You don't have to be a hero to accomplish great things---to compete. You can just be an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals. -Sir Edmund Hillary

24-Jun-17
Enroute to this event I was sidetracked by a new unfound cache nearby, and my quick "2 hour hike" ended up being a 4 hour trek climbing (or attempting to climb) a slippery slope with much elevation. I was relieved when that mission was finally accomplished and a wet, cold and muddy Pacman could finally make his way to the campground.

By the time I got there it was the tail end of the event but I still managed to catch up with some of the pioneers who had been at that original event so many years ago. The campfire that Day had going was very inviting in the cold weather, and a group of us stayed chatting until dark. In hindsight, I should have brought my tent too and made the most of it.
Thanks for organizing this event, Day and Geocaching Melbourne - it is a great way to acknowledge those early days when there were so few cachers, caches - and events! Caching sure has grown, and we have so much choice and variety today that cachers can indeed be selective about how, where and why they cache.
Gotta love it!

24-Jun-17
I didn't think that I would be at this event for the full 6 hours that it ran, but along with Biggles Bear 2, we stayed pretty much the whole time. That is testament to how enjoyable it was, catching up with some cachers from a long time ago, and meeting some new ones. The weather was a pleasant surprise, despite the cold, and a walk to a cache along the river proved both enjoyable and warmth providing.

Thanks to all those who helped organise the event and brought fire for warmth.

24-Jun-17
Leaving Geelong a little late and after finding a few on the way I arrived a little later than intended and this may have been a good thing as parking was at a premium. The fires gave a welcoming feeling along with all the camps that were set up.
Great location for the reunion of the first event so well done to the organizers.
I have finally cracked 100 Events attended.

24-Jun-17
With family commitments a long way away we made a flying visit to attend this get together in Lerdi commemorating 15 years of Events. We are lucky to have met many wonderful people through attending a vast variety of Events and today we were able to catch up with some of them fleetingly.
Thanks Geocaching Melbourne for putting on this event in an awesome location.

24-Jun-17
Arrived on Thursday afternoon after collecting a few caches on the way.
Friday afternoon six more cachers arrived for a overnight camp and we sat
around for a chat on a rather cool evening. Well done on a great event on
Saturday nice to meet up again with some familiar faces and some new ones.
day1976 was camping overnight after the event so it sounded like a good
excuse to stay another night this time by a nice warm fire.

24-Jun-17
Well of course Mary & David were there, then and now! Today also marks Day 400 of our cache-a-day streak, and our Event 391. We can't imagine our life without caching and the special friends we have made over the years. We've seen many children grow up, and remain so sociable, thanks in no small way to caching and caching events. Back then, who would have imagined how caching would evolve - smart phones, Mega events, pathtags, Wherigos, nanos, Favourite Points, Earthcaches, Geoshops, Souvenirs, power trails and Geoart. Today, more than half of the original '1st Victorian Event" group were here, the site has not changed, and neither has our enthusiasm. Our thanks to Geocaching Melbourne, and to everyone, for helping us reach those numbers and have so much fun along the way.

24-Jun-17
Wow what a special event to attend! We arrived the day before, finding a couple of nearby caches first before settling down to chat with half a dozen other crazy cachers who also braved the icy cold to camp the night. Rain was forecast for the day of the event, but it dropped its load on us during the night, which meant that we could all enjoy a cold but clear day today. After cooking us bacon pancakes (nom nom), Day got the fire going with the wood he brought in, which was appreciated by all attendees at some stage or other. It was really good to meet some of the original attendees, in particular Pyrenees Kid, as we have been trying to help to keep some of his original early caches in our area at home going. It was also quite special to find the Vic Cachers cache up the road, which was placed on this day 15 years ago as part of the original event. We enjoyed hearing all the stories of the games that were played at this event, and to meet the winner of the trophy Dashing Dog Mac. Thank you to Geocaching Melbourne for all the work in getting this event together and for chasing up all the original attendees. A really fun event.

24-Jun-17
We arrived a little after 10 am and thankfully the fires were well alight. After finding a spare spot around the fire we were able to thaw out and could catch up with old friends, not so old friends and new friends. Our thanks to Day and the Geocaching Melbourne team for putting on a great event at this location.

24-Jun-17
Yep I was there.

I kinda had to be there.

I am very pleased with the turn out to this event. The early years of caching, particularly in Victoria have fascinated me and it was humbling to meet some people who's name's and handle's I had only ever read about or been told about. It was great to chat with them, as well as the usual suspects and of course having some chats with other, newer cachers who I had never met. I just really like chatting I guess.

I arrived the night before and set up my swag and was fed some sausages by chooknchunk. A brief chat in the shelter and it was off to a wet night in the swag, which thankfuly kept me quite dry, unlike others. The next morning I cooked my famous bacon-pancakes which were devoured and then we realized it was 9:30 and the guests were arriving soon. The camp site was quickly cleared and a bon-fire lit and the crowds began to arrive. And they just kept on coming.

Thanks to the rest of the GMI people for helping me plan and implement this. Thanks to the original attendees, particularly those who don't cache much anymore but still made the effort out of their busy lives away from caching to come back and make an appearance, it was very well appreciated by all those who I spoke to.

This event had been on my to do list since being published. A fantastic turnout for what turned out to be quite a cold winters morning & afternoon. There were even some willing to camp out last night.

Many thanks to Geocaching Melbourne for the cache. TNLN.

Arrived last night and camped with some other crazy cachers. Had a great night with great company. Poured rain all night but it cleared by the time the hordes turned up. After Day had cooked us an awesome breakfast, we got the campfire going so that people could warm up when they arrived.
A beautiful setting for today's event. Enjoyed meeting some of the originals, some old friends and making some new ones.
Thanks so much for organising this event and introducing us to yet another fantastic place in Victoria.

24-Jun-17
Amazing to see so many of the original attendees still involved in the game and able to come along to this event. This was a beautiful spot to have an event, I'd never been here before but will have to come back with the kids at some stage. I joined a road train of cars on the way in picking up some of the Yorrick series along the road and then after chatting to a few different cachers at the event headed off to tackle the rest of the Yorrick caches. Thanks for arranging the event Geocaching Melbourne.

24-Jun-17
Attended with FUF009. I'd been interested in coming to this iconic revisiting of the first Victorian event. So exciting to see such a big turnout. We passed other cachers throughout the day on our way to and from the event. Everyone seemed to enjoying themselves. We cooked some snags on a BBQ for lunch and socialised for a while before heading back out caching. Good to see so many friends there today. Thanks for hosting

Travelling with sharkiefan for the days caching and to attend this event.
on arriving at the carpark at 12ish we passed others that were leaving. coming and going all the time. the crowd changed a little and alot.
I must say I was indeed surprised the amount of caches here. So many friendly faces and some warm greeting hugs too.
By the time the snags were had, and I had been around almost everyone for a chat or a friendly hello. we managed to beat the chill and headed off for some more smiley grab.

Find #3002. Attended @ 10:25 with LouiseAnn and ChestyLongPork.

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to attend this event because the family had other plans, but at the last moment I scored a lift with LouiseAnn and ChestyLongPork as long as I could get to their place early enough. I made it in plenty of time.

We set out with CLP driving and made a diversion along the way to fetch some food from the Ballan bakery. Arriving a bit after it started, I moved around various conversation groups (especially those around the various fires) and joined in the general chatter of all things caching. After a while, I went and found a couple of nearby caches with gmj3191 and jarwillow before returning to eat some lunch and chat some more.

It was great to see so many familiar faces and some not so familiar. Even though this location was a bit out of the way, the turnout proves that the geocaching scene in Victoria is very much alive and well.

Took a bunch of trackables, left two trackables, signed log and visited some other trackables.
Thanks for the event cache Geocaching Melbourne

Heaps of fun people to meet and caches found in the are. All in all good fun. Great to be back 15 years later as an adult this time though

24-Jun-17
The geo kiddies and I got ourselves ready after having breakfast with geo mum and made our way to this event along the rocky path to an area that i love and have visited before. There was a few people gathered as we arrived just as the event started. The fire was roaring but it took us a short while to warm ourselves up there as we spoke to many other cachers that had made the trip in the forest. A great catch up seeing many faces before we had to leave an hour into the event to do other things for the day.

Thanks for organising this event cache Geocaching Melbourne Smile

Nice find

24-Jun-17
Great venue for an event! We must come back again some time. It was thrilling to meet a few of the really early catchers and friends I've made over the past two years or so. Fires were welcome. Luckily no rain and a bit of sun, but down in gorge it wasn't much use. Thanks to the organisers.

24-Jun-17
Wow, what a beautiful spot and a lovely excuse to gather. Thanks GM for organising.

24-Jun-17
Attended and chatted to as many as possible. The weather was kind and the fires helped a lot on cool winters day. Thanks GM for organising and supplying lots of lovely snacks. TFTE

24-Jun-17
I arrived before 11am. The car said it was 6 degrees outside but it was windless and sunny and the open fires made the place both warm inviting and charming. So lovely to see so many cachers whom I have known for so long and a few originals too.
Thank you to the organisers

Arrived late but still in time to catch up with the attendees including some of the original cachers who planned the event.

Perfect day for it and perfect location.
Once the sun disappeared it was time to leave thos friendly warm fires and head home.
Thanks for organising and for the chance to chat to both well known and not so familiar faces.

24-Jun-17
A beautiful place to hold this event. . Arrived right on 10am and sure glad to see a warm and inviting fire blazing away. Thankful that the weather was clear and dry we chatted and made new friends and caught up with friends from previous events before tearing ourselves away from the fire to go find some caches. Thanks to the organisers!

24-Jun-17
Let's get the party started; err the party was long started by the time we arrived and it was great to see so many people make the journey. We chatted with faces both familiar and foreign, stood around the camp fire and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Our thanks to the organisers for putting this on.

24-Jun-17
Can't believe that it was exactly 15 years ago since we organised the very first caching event. A lot of water has flowed through the creek at Obriens crossing in that time. Good to catch up with old friends and meet a couple of newbies.

It was great to come back here after 15 years (I hadn't been back in all that time!) and see some old faces and new. We got a photo with most of the old timers, and the site hasn't changed a bit in that time! Did a great walk with some spectacular scenery and picked up 8 local caches including the original "Vic cachers" which was placed after I left the original event. Only took me 15 years to find! Thanks to the organisers for putting this on. It's a rare day I can get out like this these days!

24-Jun-17
I had a great time catching up with some old geocaching buddies. I think we were very lucky with the weather-sunny and still but also chilly. The 4 km walk to a nearby cache and back warmed me through. Thanks to the organisers for the reunion.

24-Jun-17
What a fantastic turnout for this event which I'm so glad i got to be a part of. It's always a pleasure to meet new faces and to make new friends at events like these. When the Fergzter and myself arrived there was already a good turnout of people, by the time we left the numbers had swelled significantly!
Thx to everybody who makes this pastime one which we all enjoy so much.

24-Jun-17
A well attended event by new and old cachers.
Lots to talk about and things to see and do.
Lots of people had never been there before, which surprised me.
We all had a great day and the party broke up around 3pm and we all went in different directions seeking elusive caches.
The Razorback https://coord.info/GC7734V seemed to be the cache of choice.

Today I made the last minute decision to head across town and some to attend the “15 Years of Events in Victoria” event. I don’t know many in the geocaching community but said hi to a couple that I knew and took the opportunity to explore the area and collect a few cache. Geoboy (Tuberdang) and I went for a few hilly walks, some clambering down rivers and a bunch of drivebys. Funny when you are trying to discrete with cache finding and every car that passes beeps the horn! Had a fun day out thanks. Beautiful spot. TFTC.

**Find # 5275**
**Attended at 10:00am on Saturday, 24 June 2017**
It was cold, cold, cold but the company was warm and the fires made it very cozy.
I was going to the original event but unfortunately had to cancel at the last moment, so I don't figure in the wonderful photos of the original attendees then, and now.
But I know most of them so it was good to reminisce with them anyway.
A very enjoyable day, thanks to all those who attended.
Thanks to Day for providing the barbecue I used to cook my lunch.
**Thanks Geocaching Melbourne**

24-Jun-17
Attended this event with Pepetuallylost in tow. What a fantastic turnout. Was really nice to catch up with some geocachers that I have not seen in a long long time. It would seem that the game has grown somewhat since the first event going by the attendees today. Thanks to the organisers of this event. Here is for another 15 years!

24-Jun-17
Thanks to Geocaching Melbourne for organising this event. It meant a lot more to us, than it may have for others who attended a small clearing like this in the bush.
I can't believe it has been 15 years since both Mark (The Englands) and I decided to organise Victoria's first event- look how the community has grown! Geocachers coming and going all day long. It was soon becoming a problem to find a park.

It was great to meet new people. It was especially great to see old friends, a lot of them whom we met, on that first event 15 years ago.

The weather was kind to us, it was almost a duplicate of the original event. Once again I thank everyone for turning up.
Darryn.

24-Jun-17
What a great day. Was pleased to catch up with some of the 'old cachers' whom I hadn't seen for a number of years and those who I haven't seen for a month or so. As I moved around I heard snippets of some really tall tales. Nice also to meet some new cachers that I hadn't met before.

I saw some really nice rocks as well, thanks Michael. Unfortunately none of them made it into my GeoPatrol.

Thanks to the members of Geocaching Melbourne for organising this event, I did note that there was a great turn out by them but I'm sure I didn't see the new BBQ.

I'm really wanting to attend this event however at the moment am still not able to drive more than a few km before becoming a tad unsafe on the roads. Sad
If anyone is possibly heading to this event from anywhere near Shepparton and could take a passenger, I'd be happy to chip in for fuel costs. Please pretty please.
I promise to stop talking in the car if asked, too, if that's a problem! Wink
