Bisoutje and I are on our way between Mossman and Adelaide and have stopped here in Townsville to find this cache. I was eager to find a WherIGo in Australia so I already solved this one from home. We were happy with the parking availabilities here where our campervan could neatly sit. The cache was a quick find despite its camo. Nicely made.TFTC!

(# 10206) I really enjoy those "in clear view" hides. Sneaky! Managed to home in on the true coordinates, and found the cache in good condition.// e-scape (of Sweden)

Found it SL. Enjoying a caching holiday in Townsville with mackay_geocaching. Thanks to the COs for the puzzles that they have created and brain strain to solve them. Puzzles mostly been solved prior to this visit with alphag_25 and mackay_geocaching team effort. Brought the GEOPUNT up this time to tackle more of the T5 caches and Challenges on the water. Also prepared for the task with the Segway Scooter and Paddleboard. Merry Christmas and Happy Caching from Mackay.*Found with [Geooh GO](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobiltal.geoohGO)*

Having tracked down a likely host area from the comfort of my desk I was greeted with a possible less than 50 metre hunt. Alas I then extended too far in a number of directions before getting some more encouraging numbers. Then it was onto the hunt, despite an enquiry to the CO I managed a find almost immediately afterwards. All good here and replaced as found. Cheers M. I noted the code for setting one of my own when I get back home.

A bonus for me today when the boss sanctioned an early knock-off for us to go and do our own respective sports and fitness. He also acknowledged that Geocaching is my thing, and even sanctioned the use of the work car for me to get to wherever I was heading. Not any huge numbers for the target, just some places I've noted on the Geo-map which had potential, including a Wherigo, a Potential 2TF (also a D/T target for my Fizzy) and an LBH too. Again, thanks to all COs for their hides.

An impromptu trip to Townsville gave me the opportunity to find a few caches.
An interesting wherigo for sure, and a quick find of the cool little container at the end Smile

I'm actually nearing completion of building a physical Reverse Geocache back home. Its been a labour of love for a few of years now .. i'm just a bit scared to actually publish it when its ready now! So much work ... so few cachers who appreciate a good container/puzzle Sad. Maybe one day [?]

Very interesting. Did not think it’d be where it was so was searching around what we thought was the obvious. How wrong were we. So after quick search of blooper trusted coords and walla bing bang. Great container. TFTC

In the Townsville area with Selva Girls to pick up some solved puzzles, Challenge caches and anything else that gets in the way. We found an interesting collection of caches in some nice areas and this was one of them. Tree climbs, tree fishing and hanging off rocks, all part of the fun.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me and others to enjoy.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 14. Townsville post Mega section Day 2. For my last day in Townsville, I joined TikvaNZ for another section of the Ross River power trail, with a bit of on and off again rain and a closed section we did pretty well. After that I set myself a list of puzzles and other non -trad caches to find for the day, which all took a lot longer than I expected, not to mention the ongoing rain all day. It has been a wonderful time in Townsville, and I have many more caches to get, so hopefully I will get to pass through again later in the year.

With the rain dropping down I was grateful for the cover at GZ and found the cache without any problems today.

Thanks for the cache burgo78

This was the only cache we found today as the car was in for a service and the dealership held it hostage for the full day. When it was finally released it was almost dark, so we just picked this cache up on our way back to camp. Thanks go to burgo78 for placing this cache. We laughed when we saw the paint job at GZ.

Last log for Townsville! From us anyway. Ft a little lost at GZ to start with but it didn’t take me long to figure it out. As it turns out I stumbled across another one of these the next day! My geosenses are getting nicely tuned. Made sure no one was looking before I went in for the kill. Thanks for the WIG with a difference

We found Townsville's Reverse Wherigo Cache while on our saintly pursuits in FNQ. ...we are glad we have finally made it here.

Last day in Townsville and we are making the most of it with becknmonts and ahomburg

Thanks burgo78 for hiding this cache so that we could come and enjoy ourselves

18-Apr-22
GZ had a little bit going on when Ghostgums and I arrived, so it was a matter of stealth to locate the container and sign the log. Wink After ruling out a couple of hiing spots, we widened the search and GG spotted a potential hide. He moved in for a closer look and yep, that'll do it. [^]

He etched our names in the log and returned everything as found. We had a laugh at the fact the council have thrown a fresh coat of paint on the surrounding structure and painted the cache as well. OK while it's in place, but when removed it reveals its home. Pretty funny. Big Grin

Cheers burgo78.

Found as part of the Qld Cache mega event weekend in Townsville over Easter 2022. Joined forces with Gunnie69 after flying up from Brisbane to tackle a variety of caches around the Townsville area including three GeoArt series, other puzzles and a few labs! I would like to thank all the cache owners who are making this an enjoyable weekend!

Today it was heading out to James Cook University and then back towards to the centre of town, before seeing Gunnie69 off as he headed back to Brisbane

A smiley has been added to the cache!

Thanks burgo78 for the cache, the hunt and the smiley today! [D*|

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

On a previous trip to Townsville, e.gregory1 had already found this Reverse Wherigo, but as we were in the vicinity, we decided to make a quick stop at this location. Having a previous finder did allow the cache to be found quickly, and the cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks burgo78 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

18-Apr-22
Experience with this type of cache had us with the finals in fairly short order, and once at GZ, we had to employ our caching senses to spot the nicely hidden cache. Is that your paint job, or the council's? Found while exploring lovely Townsville and surrounds during the CacheQld Townsville Mega, with DisSister and Dragonsky. TFTC, burgo78. =^.^=

Day 4 in Townsville for the Mega. Heading back to our accommodation we couldn’t resist finding just one more. Having done a couple of reverse whereigo before, it didn’t take long to work out GZ. When we got there, we were a little puzzled by the options so stood back and looked around with our caching eyes until we spotted something. On further investigation, it revealed the log. Thanks burgo78

-------------------------------

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

16-Apr-22
By the time I'd used the facilities the cache has been found. A nice hide.
Thanks burgo78

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!
Thanks for a great mega trip!

The weekend of the Mega was here at long last so the first thing we did was not go to the Mega but we went to clean up some DT caches we missed on Castle Hill after we had got coffee then it was a drive to A Box of Red Herrings only to find the library closed but then to discover the cache at the Mega site anyway.
Maze was next then we did the box of red herrings while we waited for the Escape Room to open, which we were first in along with the Davinells, before heading out for the day collecting a few more good caches around Townsville.

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

I did loose count on how many times I entered the program to check our distance. Let's just say, it was a lot.
Once at the general GC, we did have to scout about to locate the very well disguised cache container and be sneaky about it due to many muggles enjoying a long week-end nearby.
Thanks Burgo for another very creative caching experience.

**This Cache:**

The LAST cache of the day! Big Grin
Fun fact: We were staying only 150m away from the GZ of this cache! So of course we had to get it on the first night, just before reaching our accomodation! Great cache to get at night time too, not a single person in sight meant we could make a quick find without having to be fearful of prying eyes.

A nice little container too, well placed, we had a little chuckle at the fact that it has been painted over Smile

**Today:**

Day 11 of my road trip from Canberra - Townsville Mega Event! Big Grin
**Found with sebass19**

Today started with a long drive, Port Douglas - Townsville, we needed to arrive by 10:30am to drop off taytayy1 at the airport, which meant we were on the road before the sun was up!

I then had a short amount of time alone to fill in whilst waiting for sebass19 to arrive in Townsville after a flight from Canberra to join me for mega festivities!

He soon joined me, we filled ourselves up with food for the afternoon, and started caching non-stop like crazy for the rest of the day with the final cache find at 10:15pm! Already done fishing caches, events, tunnels and tree climbs - and it was only day 1 in TSV!

15-Apr-22
It was a slow day today, easing willis007 back into caching was the goal and that lasted all of two caches. Then we were off racing along. We had a collection of finds to get consisting of, some paddling, some tree climbs, some bike riding and some walking. We headed off to the boat ramp along the ross river and started with a paddle but that didn’t go to well as the boats were just a buzz today. So we decided to just bike along and get some of the RRPT caches in this area. We then rode up to the caches in south beck drive for a 10 k bike ride, that us, easing back in.

Some great caches and some good times, thanks for the hides. Logs were signed on all and caches replaced as found, thanks.

In town for the mega, using caching as a guide to show us the best of what the region has to offer.

Nice to have a few rarer icons to find. Coords put us between 2 areas, chamad and I went one way and we're unsuccessful, Willis007 had more success at the other spot.

Nyssaflutterby and I had a road trip to Townsville for the mega. It involved camping, hotels, cabins, tunnels, caves, beaches, trees and lots of laughs with old friends and new.

We got off the plane, grabbed the hire car and was trying to decide whether to head straight for our accommodation or head to the supermarket. We contacted Nyssaflutterby who stated that they had just arrived at the accommodation, (she knows how to find some good accommodation) so we headed for there too. Once our luggage was in the room we decided to head out to do some geocaching before it got dark.

We parked and made a short walk before we started searching and our geosense soon kicked in and we had the log book in our hands.

MEGA trip - day 1

After an early morning flight for a week of caching in Townsville, we grabbed a few at Castle Hill before meeting up with the bug who was helping with setup of the maze. We didn't quite have a plan but enjoyed zigzagging around the suburbs picking up a bunch of solved caches.

Tardis0061 had his radar tuned for a quick find on this one. Dropped the bug off at his accommodation before heading of for some shopping, dinner and a well earned rest.

23/10/21 Find #5127
A hot day out in Townsville for Fangsoki and I today, and after a rather sweaty morning hike we decided to grab some easier caches for the rest of the day.
Initially we were concerned about this one, as when we had put this on the offline list, there was a DNF. However a quick refresh today and all had been put right, so once we arrived at GZ it was only a matter of “over here” or “over there”. Turns out it was over there of course.
Thanks for the cache burgo78.

1MinnieMoo required a Wherigo in October - so we decided to drop in and do this one.

We did what must be done and we soon were on our way to a GZ. Hmmm. Open area. We used some caching sense and soon came up with the clever prize. A great little wherigo. TFTW burgo78 Smile

After the recent DNF I checked on this one and it was indeed missing.
It has now been replaced.
Happy hunting.

24-Jul-21
I attempted this wherigo and visited GZ as I passed through Townsville on my way to Cape York. I had given myself three weeks to get from Adelaide to Cairns, caching along the way, before meeting up with friends for the next three weeks of travel to the Tip and back. In all, I ended up being away for more than 9 weeks, with six of those being on my own. I saw some fantastic places and found some great caches along the way. Logging this one with permission from the CO. Thanks burgo78 for the cache.

23-Jul-21
No luck at the final for this wherigo today.

Coordinates had me on a patch of open grass behind a toilet block! Not a great spot to be hanging around.

I checked the nearby structures, trees, etc but all I found was a shortened pencil on the grass that may or may not have come from a cache. I’ll have to concede defeat on this one.

Day 18 of our road trip from the Gold Coast with hatzofff, grannysmith1947 and RoddyC & this time we headed north of Townsville early to the beautiful scenic Paluma to grab a couple of oldies for a Challenge then back to the big smoke to find some more on our to-do list.

I’ve proceeded around these streets so often that I know where I am by the feel of the cobbles under my boots through their cheap cardboard soles. I know it so well I could patrol backwards.

A huge day of caching with 1 event in Charters, the second in Townsville, a FTF, a Lab cache and a total of 10 different cache types.

We had managed to take a couple of readings last trip so had the area narrowed down. It was now dark by this time and began to wonder if we should be seen loitering around at this tone of night. Anyway the coast was clear and a certain item looked like it had potential so a bit of a search and the the hide was soon found. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC.

Did it with two calculations. I had a clue roughly where this was as i tried to hide a cache in the area, only to ge told it was too close to this reverse wherigo. Gave it a go today. First clue was 161 metres away then tried again for a 91m hit. Of the two options only one had a possible hiding spot. Thanks for my first Wherigo find.

21-Apr-19
Quiet afternoon, decided to focus on grabbing a few different types of caches.
Knew how to play this game Big Grin having played a couple, and having one myself.

Some impressive attempts in the logs Surprised
I took 10, but shouldn't really include one from home and one from our weekend accommodation, being no where near the final. Even 8 was a few too many - I made one blunder [:o)].

Anyway made the find ... nice hide too [^] ... and killed a bit of time this afternoon.

21-Mar-19
I have done one of these before in Toowoomba so i knew what to do. first check from my motel. 2.2km. then from a cache 1.5km. after 1 more i had it narrowed down to a potential area so parked the car. After a couple more i had the cache in hand. Thanks for placing.

20-Dec-18
Started this wild good chase back in Brisbane. My first crack determined that my bedroom was a mere 1116.7 kms from the cache. I took a rough guess where I thought it would be and left the second pick for my arrival in Townsville today. Turns out my in-laws house is only 1.4 kms from the cache.

I plotted a couple of nice circles from my first two attempts, but there was no intersection - not even close! So it appears the wherigo cartridge algorithm to work out the distance is not accurate over long distances.

Later in the day, Mrs Crooked went to the shops for a few hours. So with a car at my disposal I picked a likely place on my 1.4 km radius circle and headed there. My third run of the distance had me 2.5 kms aways. A 5 minute drive and my 4th try was only 61 metres away. Surveying the location and my intersecting points and I picked a possible location. Not finding anything, I reran the distance on my 5th try.

Quiet here today, so a nice quick find of a well camo'd container. 5 attemtps to find the cache - though I reckon I got short changed on the first one. Enjoyed this wild goose chase this arvo. Sure beat shopping! Many thanks, burgo78

We started this whereigo variant a month or 3 ago, but the final area was quite crowded and we had an event to go to. Today only mad dogs, Englishmen and cachers go out in the mid afternoon sun in late November and the final area was deserted. The app was more forthcoming with the final coords and the container was eventually tracked down, signed and replaced. Capped off an interesting day with a range of caches, thanks for the assistance this morning.

Two evenings befor, I took a look on the map and I decided where I will take a first look. Today I was near there ... Bazinga it was a well done decision ... not far away from the GZ

Travelling around Australia using Geocaching as our Tour Guide.

Staying in Townsville today in advance of the forecast rain/hail/sleet we headed out. Thankfully we found your cache and NO RAIN. well not enough anyways! lol

OMG how frustrating and how long did this take. We did not do this easily. the smartphone kept locking up and it turned out turning off the gpsr so for every 1 attempt we have at least 5!!!!!

Anyway all ready to sling the phone out the window and reality set in. only another 20more how far requests? and we were back nearish to our earlier attempts. SurprisedRed Face [:o)]

SmileWe were staying in Townsville for a couple of days and with no hope of finding all the caches here we decided to target multi's for the Pirate souvenir game as well as a few puzzles we have solved and the wherigo's as we really enjoy them.

We love Whereigo caches and have our own one of these back in Victoria, we randomly took shots at different caches we visited today and worked out roughly where we had to head, but it turns out that we aren't very good at this type of cache as in the end it took us thirty one readings before we got to gz.Smile
We spotted the cache was soon as we arrived but after a quick check dismissed it and after eliminating all the other areas and sure enough with better examination we were soon able to add our name to the log.

Many thanks again burgo78 for the cache, a favourite point from us.

With a busy visit to Townsville and being short on time we planned to get only a couple caches while we were in town. We were aiming to get Caches that are a little different to ones we've found before.

I had a look at this Cache before leaving home and with the encouragement of the CO we hunted this one down after the event.

After driving around in ever decreasing circles we eventually found some good co-ors and soon GZ.

We enjoyed the challenge here and the hunt. Thanks burgo78 for a good fun half hour, and for the chance to do a different Geocache.

I triangulated this one from afar - starting in Brisbane and taking another measurement while doing some geoart on the Brisbane Valley Rail trail. Got me quite close to the final location. Took a while to spot the container, but eventually had the log signed.

This is my first successful reverse wherigo. The first two I tried in Los Angelos led me to a pavilion in the middle of a Lunar New Year celebration and a rats nest. Both were abandoned (one more quickly than the other...). TFTC!

We haven't found a Reverse Wherigo before, it sounded intriguing. 6.00pm and raining - what a time to get hooked on a cache! After only being in Townsville a few days, we don't know all that much about it - the place on The Strand selling great barra we do know [^] but that was no help with the cache.

So our tactical course of action was 'pick a spot, any spot that could hide a cache and try it'. It was closer but still way off. Our next spot was closer still and from this we found a place we thought possible. Arriving at this waypoint and .....'woah!!! it has to be here! Big Grin Some more fine tuning gave us a few places to look and if we'd had a more thorough search the first time we wouldn't have been nearly as wet as we were ten minutes later when we found the cache. We loved the idea of this cache and the challenge it involved. TFTC and the pathtag burgo78, fav from us.

I love this concept! I took four readings and thankfully my start point wasn't too bad. Then is was just a manner getting a few other points. Dropping a favourite point here too.

Had a bit of spare time this afternoon so thought I'd try my hand at finding burgo78's Wherigo. I was near home when I took my first distance measurement and found that I was 12.1 kilometres away from the GZ.

Luck was on my side as each time I calculated the distance, I was getting closer. At 2.6 kilometres from target, I started to look at the map to work out a viable GZ location. I drove to a likely spot and took another measurement and found that I was only 204 metres from GZ.

Next measurement had me at 44 metres. From hear, it was time to start searching. Checked the most obvious location with no joy, but a quick scan of the area revealed another likely spot and bingo, I was signing the log book directly under karicka.

All up from start to finish, probably took no longer than 45 minutes. Will attach my statistics to my log.

Log signed. Took nothing and left nothing. Cache container and log in great condition.

Finding this cache has now given me a total find count of 1584.

Thanks for the interesting Wherigo cache hide **burgo78**. Smile

Got home from another FTF hunt and soon this one popped up. Smile
After a struggle of finding the right folder on the phone I had the WiG loaded and ready to go.
Not going to give away my starting distance, but it was longer than a walk.
Took a guess about the general direction, a good guess.
On feeling I followed a road, keeping my eye on the odometer and asking my copilot for updates, we made straight for GZ!
Missed a turn but that was soon fixed and the distance was down to two digits. A final circle and I spotted something cache-like.
Thanks for giving us one of these in TSV burgo78
