(# 5438). Today is day 9 of my West Coast trip. Today I am traveling from Westport to St Arnaud. Main goal was the Brunner Peninsula Walk. A quick find. Went for it as it was reasonably close to my accommodation. Everything in order. TFTC
Had a great drive around the block today Greymouth, Reefton, Westport plus a few side roads, a bit of rain, many thanks to all the cache placer's. Thanks Bitsprayer
A lot of birdlife enjoying the water today. Checked a couple of hint items before spying the one that just had to be it and there was the cache. I always enjoy wandering around cemeteries and this was no exception thanks holymu. TFTC # 13,494
This cemetery was much bigger than I thought. It rained last night so got wet shoes retrieving. Log very wet so replaced with waterproof log. Tha is for the cache holymu
Found out in the open on the ground signed and returned .thanks holymu for the cache
Mrs Sobad wandered around with an unhelpful GPS. Found only one possible spot for the cache which was empty - although it looked a bit unlikely anyway. Will try again in future with the 2 of us.
Had found teh predecessor of this cache before and ironically many of my decendents are in this cemetery and the newer one. Thanks for bringing me back.
We needed 13 more September finds for a challenge in the North Island and some points to finally start the latest Adrenaline Junkie souvenir, so set off to hopefully clean out Westport again. An easy find under the careful watch of a hiding weka nearby. The log was damp but signable (the last on this side - now people will need to use the reverse side) We made sure to secure it encase the Weka becomes curious. Thanks for placing another cache here in here for everyone elses enjoyment and for adding to our smilies today
Zara is finally out of the AA Hospital in Greymouth so its time to grab her and a few Critters, while adventuring along the amazing West Coast. Parked Zara in Westport, while The Seagnoid and I headed out with Toby, exploring Granity and Denniston. So lets GO!!
We left Denniston in the dark so its caching by torchlight in the cemetery here. Walked across the lower ground and through the swampy bits. Just as well I have my gummies on. Being dark the search took a little longer than usually but finally snagged and tagged. Cheers.

Zara is feeling better so Taybeedragon and I are off to Greymouth to pick her up and find some of those Hidden Creatures. We carved a figure-8, but without the crossover: Blenheim - Greymouth - Westport - Nelson - Blenheim.
After spending hte day out Denniston way, it is now night and time to head back to Zara. The weather is expected to rain tomorrow, so instead of staying here, I think we will head to an event in Nelson instead.
So anyway, back to Westport to pick up Zara. Decided to drop in here to... um... act suspicious? I kept my torch pointing down hopefully so the cars whizzing past would not see it and worry about torchlights in a cemetery at night.
Incidentally - I think the fences we see around cemeteries are to keep the zombies and ghosts in, so that makes it doubly intersting as to why we are heading into one at night...
Anyway, found the cache, snuck back tot he car without any of the local residents seeing us, and bouyed by our success wnet to try out another cemetery. By the way, I am also on the hunt for a dragon. Didn't see one here

Nice quick find log starting to disintergrate. Nice to see cemerty has been cleaned up. Tyftc
A quick jaunt down to Westport to see some friends and to see how life is these days on the wild West Coast Call us odd but we like to visit the cemeteries of the towns we visit if time allows. You learn a lot about the realities of a community and ways of the people who live there. This was no exception. TFTC.
Called here this morning for a quick and easy find. Just as well it wasn't raining or it might have been a bit of a boggy walk to the cache! Signed log, TFTC.
A nice and quick find. Cheers.
After last nights rain, I thought it would carry on into today. But no! A few showers in the morning and the rest of the day was great. Off to Westport for tonight.
Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

A short wander through the longish grass to get to this one after meeting up with Weka, who had found it earlier. Nice hide TFTC
Out on an early morning caching run around Westport. What a sadly neglected cemetery! Especially when compared to the large cemetery nearby. Cheers holymu.
Finally it's time for a Christmas break and some time away from work. Time for Mrs KE and I to pack up our newly converted camping car and head out into the wilderness for a few nights. The West Coast looked inviting and there might even be time for some geocaching. If we can remember how to do that.
It looks like the place is at least getting some grass cutting done today. Lots of damaged graves in here which is always sad to see. Cache well placed out of the way so no trouble making the find and then checked a few of the older stones on our way out.
Thanks holymu for the cache.

The condition of this cemetery was terrible. Right from the gate you are wading through knee high grass and the further you get the longer the grass is, up to waist height. It will take a weedeater to knock it all down as you can no longer see some of the headstones. Considering how near the current cemetery is, both old cemeteries should be looked after in the same way as the new one. Eventually we made our way through the grass and down a couple of rabbit holes to the cache for a find and sign. tftc
Was looking for the hint when a weka came out of the bushes I asked it where the cache was and it took off like a startled rabbit as I turned to watch it I caught sight of what I'd been looking for. TFTC holymu and happy new year

An evening caching trip to the three cemeteries - this one was the oldest and, sadly, the most neglected. You'd think the council would be more respectful of their history! Nice spot to explore, for sure.
I'm not at all upset that your last cache here had to be archived and replaced. I'm always interested in old cemeteries and oh yes, I'm always interested in new smilies so a new visit made me double happy . I couldn't help wondering what one had to do to end up with the surname "Virtue", cemeteries always send my brain off on all sorts of tangents. Thanks for the hide .
Cemeteries are always interesting
GPS led us straight to the cache.
Thank you Sidewaze for the wonderful day Geocaching

2nd cache today great cemetery pity the council dont mow it a bit more often, thanks for the cache
Found with LaStorm15, we decided to take a long and winding path from Nelson to Lake Tekapo, using caches along the way to plot our path. Sloshed around in the mud for a little while but eventually we found this one

This is our second find in this area - it was in the first place that GK looked. Probably going to get a bit busier around here in the next wee while with the whitebait season due to start soon. We noticed a couple of access points to the river and assumed they were put in by whitebaiters. Thanks holymu for the cache
Away for a few days holiday during the school break. In Westport for a couple days exploring. After walking part of Charming Creek and investigating Millerton we were heading back Westport to find ourselves some tea......we love cemeteries so stopped past for a quick find and sign. Approach a bit squelchy but all good. Cheers.
More cemetery success after the nearer one a minute ago and the cache was soon tracked down and snaffled for a Q E F. One of a few I grabbed whilst colleagues drank and listened to bagpipes at the RSA in town.
And so it was decided that for this years Anzac Day observations that a group of my workmates and I would head West, to the Coast, to pay our respects and parade in the Air Force colours. We loaded into the van on mid-afternoon on Monday and arrived in Westport just on dusk. Checked into the motel apartments for the evening before an 0430 start on Tuesday to parade at Granity followed by Waimangaroa at 09145 and finishing at Westport at 1100 to march on the Cenotaph.
An awesome couple of days with many new people met, places seen and other experiences and tales from the Coast. Oh, and a few caches too!

In town for the weekend with time to do a few caches this afternoon.
We tried for this earlier but discovered that a bunch of "pep" workers were having a working bee.
Returned later and all was quiet.
Not a particularly quick find at all.

Quick find after a stroll through the long grass.
Found a pocket knife on the roadside park.
