This is the second entry for Doug Flutie 1984 winner, however it is at a different location. This hometown favorite is from Natick and although I found no markers on school grounds I am sure there is something inside the High School, but one municipal recognition that shows up with online search is the fact that there is a street named for him. FLUTIE PASS is connector road between Shoppers World, Framingham and the Natick Mall.
This is the final resting place of Bruce Smith, the 1941 Heisman Trophy Winner from the University of Minnesota. He is buried at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetary in Minnesota. He also served in the US Navy during WWII after winning the Heisman. It is notable that he was awarded the Heisman only two days after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. His grave site is in the middle of section O. Although his marker does not specifically say Heisman on it, he is listed as a notable figure at the visitor center on on the web site as a Heisman winner.
His stats are located at:

I found this "two-fer" in the NCAA Headquarters "Hall Of Champions" in downtown Indianapolis Indiana http://www.ncaa.org/hall_of_champions/global/home.htm
This tribute shows both Roger Staubach (1963) and Archie Griffin (1974 and 1975) - the only 2-time Heisman winner. TFTC!!

Joseph Bellino
1960 Heisman Trophy Winner
United States Naval Academy
Halfback
Joe Bellino entered the sports spotlight at Winchester High in 1953. At Winchester High School, he racked up the following honors:
* Started every football, baseball and basketball game in his sophomore, junior and senior years.
* Scored in every football game throughout his high school career except the first two games in his sophomore year, tallying up a career total of 273 points while at Winchester High.
* Made All-State teams in football, basketball and baseball.
* Won nine letters, the maximum number for any player
But that was only the beginning. In 1960, Joe Bellino won the Heisman Trophy as the "nation's outstanding college football player" as a starting halfback for three years at the United States Naval Academy -- the first midshipman ever to win this distinguished award.
He was the first Navy athlete in 41 years to receive the Academy's two top athletic awards, the Thompson Trophy and the Naval Academy Athletic Association Sword. In 1977, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In 1965, after distinguised service in the U.S. Navy, Joe Bellino joined the Boston Patriots.
In keeping with the tradition of recognizing the accomplishments of Winchester residents who have made a difference, this new community park was dedicated as "Joseph M. Bellino Park."
There is more information about Joe Bellino's accomplishments and the park on the Bellino Park Fundraising Campaign Brochure.
Thanks for the cache to encourage us to learn about this local sports hero.

This was a special treat for my 300th geocache. It was quite a find of Andre Ware's donation to the University of Houston. The trophy was for the year 1989. He was the University of Houston quarterback.

you should all know who he is. and if you have never been in the 'butt-sMehre' building, you must visit. there is more to Dawg sports than football, but it has quite a history overshadowing the other sports.
i have the Hershel pics, and a tease for the other--for another to find.

Traveled to the Joyce Center of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana to get this. There were only a few people there in the building. I took a picture of Paul Horning's Heisman Trophy. Known as the Golden Boy, he many years of success in Green Bay following his illustrious career at Notre Dame. Check the winners website at: http://heismanmemorialtrophy.com/winners.html
There are 7 Heisman Trophies here. I'm only logging the 3rd one, so 4 more are available. TFTC.

Doc Blanchard was nicknamed "Mr Inside" when he played for Army. His backfield partner, Mr Outside, won the Heisman the next year. This marker is located in Bishopville, SC where Doc Blanchard grew up.
Alright so I thought I would get a little creative with this find. I emailed the owner and he said it was a go so here it is. I had just retrieved a Vincent "Bo" Jackson Auburn University 1985 Heisman Trophy Winner figure and mini replica trophy. Big deal you say, well the figure was a travel bug that had started in my home town and made it all the way out to Louisiana and back home! You can follow the journey of the travel bug by using the following link:

I am told that it will go out on another mission so you too may be part of this history.

John W. Heisman, famous coach and football strategist and the one who this trophy is given in honor of, was buried in Rhinelander, WI, in 1936. Here is a photo of a plaque honoring him that we found at the Holiday Inn Express in Rhinelander. One of our best friend's mother took care of his wife for a while after John had passed away.

John Lukack from Notre Dame
Considered one of the greatest T-formation collegiate quarterbacks of all times. Filling in for Angelo Bertelli, who went into the Marines in 1943, he quarterbacked a 26-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Army Cadets. This star quarterback gained 2,080 yards for the Irish in three years and achieved a marvelous passing record of 144 completions out of 282 throws. His accurate arm accounted for many of Notre Dame's 24 victories while at the Golden Dome. In his three seasons at Notre Dame, 1943 and then after military service in 1946 and 1947, the Irish were National Champions. After graduation, Lujack went to the Chicago Bears and played for four years. He was named All-Pro on defense in 1948 and All-Pro on offense in 1950, and in 1949 he established a new NFL passing record of 468 yards and 6 touchdowns in one game against the Chicago Cardinals in a spectacular 52-21 victory. For two years ('52-'53) he served as Notre Dame backfield coach under Frank Leahy, coaching John Lattner, the '53 Heisman winner. In Davenport, Iowa in the summers and Indian Wells, California during the winters, enjoying his hobby of golf.
John was elected to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame in 1960.
I believe there are more unclaimed caches still at Notre Dame.
