We were part of a group of 10 cachers up to hike Mount Tamahunga. The logs were signed as Team Tama. The weather was very windy with an occasional rain shower, but this did not deter us, as we walked along the muddy trail. We were glad to be part of a large group today as there were many items that matched the hint. After a brief search, the cache was soon located in the right spot.
Found with the Group called Team Tama on the great hike around Mt Tamahunga on windy day. Thanks for pleasant placements here!
Couple of potential candidates here, but we spread out and Tramyard quickly spotted this one, TFTC
A group of 10 cachers met up to hike Mount Tamahunga. It was a very blustery day with the odd heavy showers, but luckily we were quite sheltered along the trail. The trail was quite muddy in parts and very slippery after the recent rain. We signed the logs as Team Tama.
There were a few possible locations for this cache, we spread out and soon located the cache by a spot that fitted the hint to a T.

The last cache we had not yet found on the track here and, unlike a couple of the others, it was was found in one piece (actually one was completely missing other than the attachment) - although in the initial location we searched. A few of the others in the group went a bit further and located it in an almost exactly the same type of spot GAR had been searching. Just as well there were more of us than just us two or we might have been in this spot a lot longer! The group signed the log as Team Tama. Thanks for placing alligatorsnz! Now don't come a place more just after we've made the effort to find these ones like the last time we came - although it is a great walk - lots of people on the tracks today that is for sure - even a couple who ran up and down, how they could do that without falling over i have no idea - I managed to slip a multitude of times and I was even being careful!).
The weather held off and we all survived the trip to this cache - We signed the log Team Tama - All good at this cache. Windy day, but rain held off mostly - think the bush sheltered us for most of the trip.

Found with Team Tama a crazy team of 10 keen cachers who weren't deterred by the blustery weather and the muddy track. This one took a little more time to locate than the others had as there were several spots that could match the hint but with 10 people spread out it didn't elude us for too long
After missing a few caches on the way down, I got lucky and spotted this one. My GPSr had it 14m out. After I found the cache, I understood the hint, but the same can be said for my hints, so I can't complain too much. TFTC.
Found with Ozwalker while collecting a few geocaches on the walk up to Mt Tamahunga. Started from Matakana Valley Rd following the Te Araroa Trail and then down the Tamahunga Track to finish at the Omaha Valley Rd. Didn't find all the caches we passed but this one in good order. Fortunately the day was dry and sunny but after the recent rain we were pleased not to be carrying full packs along the slippery track. Apologies for logging this well after finding it. Thanks alligatorsnz.
Found with Oz in NZ while collecting a few geocaches on the walk up to Mt Tamahunga. Started from Matakana Valley Rd following the Te Araroa Trail and then down the Tamahunga Track to finish at the Omaha Valley Rd. We enjoyed the walk. As expected after the recent rain some of the descents had become fairly slippery, a good introduction to this was the first descent into the gully after leaving the Matakana Valley Rd. TFTC.
Good excuse for a breather on the way up the hill. Cache container well hidden from the track. TFTC
I decided that today was a good day for a hike and with a couple of new caches on the slopes of Mt Tamahunga the choice was easy. Not to forget that I having been wanting to bag this peak for an age. After claiming the summit and finding some other caches I finally got around to looking for this hide, the other new placement. I lost a good chunk of elevation making my way down from the summit, negotiating a few particularly steep bits. Finally, hours after getting the the first to find on "just because 22" I arrived at GZ. Found in the second place I checked and learnt that I had been beaten by kiwicouple. Oh well, it would have been nice but I knew I was opening the doors or other finders by concentrating on other goals today. Gave kiwicouple a call to see where they might be and to let them know I had already found the other new hide. Oh, and no problem Mark, I had a good walk. Cheers for the cache placement ANZ!
Late this morning Sherrie headed off to look after one of our grandchildren for the afternoon, while Mark headed north towards Matakana, and hopefully a couple of FTFs.
Parked at the Omaha Valley Rd entrance and headed up the hill. We still use our original Garmin Vistra HCx GPS which is pretty good under tree cover and has found over 10,000 caches. But today it was struggling to keep up with me - and I was not walking all that rapidly up the slope! From the point where I had 41m to go to GZ it didn't show any movement while I walked about 50m , and then the GPS jumped to say I was 29m past the cache. Started making my way back down checking places that matched up with the hint as I went. There were a few, and each was thoroughly checked before finally I was actually at The Right Spot. Just before seeing the cache I had checked the GPS again, and it was now saying 5m. So the co-ords are pretty good.
Opened up the cache and signed for the FTF, then began making my way back down.
Thanks for showing me a glimpse of this interesting area of native forest. The boards at the entrance to the bush are very informative.

Back at Matakana I received a txt message from Sherrie saying "Hear you got FTF on one end of the trail."
Lostcourse had been walking in from the other end for the most of the day. Sorry Sean, I feel your pain.
