Out for a ride on this rail trail today with some non-geocaching friends. So as not to annoy everybody with frequent stopping, I picked only a few geocaches on the route. Ill just have to come back. We stopped in this area for lunch so I disappeared for a few minutes to hunt for this. I went to the wrong end first, but once in the right place soon found it. Thank you for the cache Jodanz.

19-Apr-24
After packing up our camp nearby I sent the minicachers off to find this cache while I stuffed the last few things into bags. They didn't have much luck but did have a great time climbing over the engines. Pretty quiet here early in the morning! Armed with the hint I had better luck and cache was soon signed and replaced. Tftc.

30-Mar-24
Yay! Clever hide - totally blind to this at first. Went on to the swing bridge and had another crack on the way back. Very cool! Many thanks for adding to todays fun adventure. A wee hikoi but all downhill from here!

07-Feb-24
Some difference of opinion here on the interpretation of the hint. One gave up - the other went and found it... That's why we're a team. Fabulous day on the Rimutaka Rail Trail today. Cache is all good. Earns a fave from us. TFTC

26-Dec-23
Had to use the hints, well hidden! Love the location.Cheers from belgium!

20-Aug-23
Nowhere near as hard as I thought it was going to be. What an amazing place up here.

25-Apr-23
Pleased I was able to find this just from memory of the cache page as no mobile reception at the top. Great spot for a cache! Tftc

16-Apr-23
Very clever, kids were looking all over. Great day out, good weather and ride. Tftc

25-Jan-23
Enjoying this bike ride in perfect weather, a group of seven of us, all on e-MTBs. This was a lovely spot to stop in the sun for a snack. The helpful hint and photo was appreciated. A clever hide which didn't take too long to find - don't want to hold up a big group! Thanks jodanz, another favourite added.

27-Dec-22
Beautiful Boxing Day weather to cycle the Remutaka Incline Trail from Kaitoke to Cross Creek. Missed collecting other locations due to no phone coverage but pre read clues before ride and found this one easily.

27-Sep-22
Thanks for the hints, got it straight away! Nice to find this on my bike ride, a lovely day for it.

02-Sep-22
Rode the incline (over and back) today with Wicm Jnr. A chilly wind and passing showers so this was the only cache we stopped for, even though we passed several other unfound caches (including one of the multis which I have solved). I'm sure I've stopped for this one before - must have been one of the times when it was missing. Nice quick find today, exactly as described in the hint. TFTC.

17-Jun-22
Just as advertised. Thanks,

04-Jun-22
Founds while out cycling. Thanks for cache. Was a bit damp but could still sign.

17-Apr-22
Another find just after Patandjohn.
All good and hidden in place. Easy find avoiding the muggles.
TFTC

16-Apr-22
Tftc, windy up here today. Cool hide, easy find

14-Apr-22
We have searched for this cache on numerous occasions but with no success. This time we were with a couple of good friends to help. We had a reading of the Hint, a low posture taken or kneeling and much looking was begun. The shingle is hard on old knees so a "situpon" was fetched from a pack. It was only when one person scrabbled to their feet that an object of interest was seen some distance from all the tubes. Inside was a log sheet which we duly signed but are uncertain if it was the most recent cache. We will contact jodanz as to what we found and what we did with the cache. Our many thanks go to jodanz for placing this cache and his perseverance in keeping it alive. TFTC

10-Apr-22
Loved it great clue thank you

10-Apr-22
Certainly needed the hint for this one.

05-Mar-22
What is it with all these bozos muggling caches lately? Replacement was gone so a new container is now located almost at ground level so can't be seen unless you kneel down. Hopefully this lasts longer than the last one!

24-Feb-22
Looks like the reaplcement has gone as well?

27-Nov-21
Passed by today and cache has gone. Didn't have a right sized replacement so left a plastic jar with a receipt in the chimney stack until we return next with a proper replacement.

09-Oct-21
Checked cache today when passing and it is still there on the "top shelf" as per the hint.

07-Aug-21
Checked on an evening ride and still there. Updated hint slightly. Only a couple of options based on hint #2 ......

24-Jul-21
A big search here. Firstly, all three similar objects are parallel to the cab, so we search all three, then the two bigger ones even though they were unlikely, then discovered the cache picture and refocussed our efforts. Alas no find here. Pretty sure wherre it should be though.

Twig and I needed some tree time so we decided to come here. Over Collie's very overgrown Road to the Rimutaka rail trail and back via the appropriately named Back Road.

Log not signed as TATS - TwigNZ and the Seagnoid.

24-Jul-21
It was great to get to The Summit station of the Rail Trail, and an interesting cache awaited our arrival. We started searching in accordance with the hint, but slowly expanded our search to include all 5 potential locations (in case of cache creep) but after about 20 minutes of checking and re-checking every potential location we could think of, we called time on this one.

13-Feb-21
...Today is 9 October 2021. Going through my Drafts on the Garmin I realised I forgot to log quite a few geocaches this year! So I'm catching up.
On 13/2/2021 sveppi and I started from the Wairarapa side on foot, with the rifle. We wanted to explore as far as here, and see if we could get distracted by goats along the way. Had lunch under the old pines and continued on the track for a bit longer. Tried to find this cache but couldn't locate. There are no photos on the Garmin (I don't geocache with the phone). We tried a few combinations with the hint but no luck. I see someone found it on this day, so obviously we didn't look in the right place...
Managed to secure some meat in the late afternoon on the way back to the car.

13-Feb-21

Quick search and find. Found the Cache all in order so signed the log and replaced as found.

02-Feb-21
Certainly a pipe dream for us, no sign of said magnetic.

02-Feb-21
Was up there a few weeks back and cache was still there. It is NOT magnetic. Remember the photo hint and a word in the cache name (and it's not 'dream')

03-Dec-20
We cycle up the incline quite frequently and we generally have a look in passing for this cache. We think we had the correct boiler but once again we were unable to find anything amongst the rust we could unscrew. Next time!! TFTC

28-Aug-20
Had a good look on my ride over to Cross Creek, and another look on my ride back.
I'm sure I understood the good hints, and have an idea of the type of hide I I after, but it wasn't my day to find it.
Thanks for placing it and giving me the challenge.

28-May-20
I planned to carry on over the summit to the Hutt side to collect several more caches after this one but the stupid batteries died in my GPSr as I came to a stop here. That made this my last search (& find) for the day. Luckily I had checked out the cache details after the previous find so I wasn't having to search blind. After a quick search at each end, which failed to help, I had one of those moments where the lightbulb comes on and the cache was in the next place I checked. A nice fresh log here and, unusually, some sun. TFTC Jodanz
Now, time for the downhill . . .

09-May-20
Went for ride from Lower Hutt to the summit and back and checked cache is still in place.

22-Mar-20
Last time we were up here the container had gone so left a temporary log in a plastic bag. This time we brought a spare container. Note - the container should NOT be removed from its home, just unscrew the lid to access the log.

24-Feb-20
We couldn't figure this one out... lots of potential candidates and couldn't see where it would fit. Oh well...

22-Feb-20
I was here with watcache who had found it before but no luck today

21-Feb-20
Checked cache while on an evening ride up this way. The cache object has been disturbed at the container is gone so temporarily placed a log in a plastic bag until we can put in s new container.

16-Feb-20
Neat hide, skagas eagle eye picked this one in a couple of minutes. TFTC

16-Feb-20
Out on a ride on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with DaVinciHunter. Sneaky wee hide here. TFTC.

08-Feb-20
Nice day out with mumandme. Nice walk, wasn't much wind.
No luck today. Mumandme had found this before but even with her guidance no luck

24-Jan-20
Tried hard with this one, however, it stumped me!

27-Dec-19
#7624. Decided today I would do the caches on the Wairarapa side of the rail trail. I have been up to Cross Creek previously on a geocaching walk but not gone further. The weather looked like it was going to be fine and sunny today and it was. But the wind was something else. The fact I was nearly blown off my feet at the carpark should have been a warning. It kept blowing hard all day - relentless near gale. Made for a challenging walk carrying the printout of Barnaby's 19 stage multi cache and trying to avoid having the paper blown out of my hand and on its way to South America. The new swing bring at Siberia was a mental challenge as the gusts threatened to suck me off the bridge.

Having gone through the summit tunnel I emerged into a nice flat grassy area with crowds of people. There were boy scouts, cyclists, casual day trippers and other odds and sods in all directions. After having only a few keen cyclists and walkers on the other side I was not expecting such numbers of people. Fortunately none were close to the GZ. I spent a good 15 minutes checking all around and under the selection of objects placed here. There are many ways to interpret the hint and I tried them all. Eventually muggles arrived and started looking so I headed off to do another nearby cache. On return my GPS lead me back to the same object and I thought it has to be there. I tried one last option I hadn't done on the first look and what do you know there is the cache. Cunningly hidden and yes the hint is accurate. Signed the logbook and re-hid the cache as found. Thanks Jodanz for placing it here.

PS only saw the updated hint after writing up the log.

24-Dec-19
Following a recent DNF, an early finish to the work day meant an opportunity to check the cache and it is definitely still there.

Updated the hint slightly so people don't need to go sifting around too much.

Hint #2 should dramatically reduce the amount of searching required.

22-Nov-19
We had another look for this cache and still no joy. Despite this it was a most enjoyable ride up the incline on a sunny morning. TFTC

25-May-19
I wasn't intending to walk this far today (we ended up doing about 14Km, having come from the cache at Collies track), but this seemed to be a good point to sit down and eat lunch. Such a good idea, that a party of muggles on e-bikes had got there before us! Well, after a rest and loads of photos, they headed off and the coast was (briefly) clear. The cache was a quick find, and certainly wasn't there last time I looked. TFTC.

19-May-19
After 2 recent DNFs and despite the fact this cache was unlikely to be muggled, headed up to check it out ...... and it was gone! Looks like some do-gooders have had a bit of a tidy up and there is no sign of the original cache.

Luckily we had come spare containers with us so replaced the cache and modified the hint accordingly.

14-May-19
It could be that I was just tired after cycling up here, but I couldn't spot it today.

09-May-19
We looked for this one on a cycle ride up to the Summit for lunch on a mild but windy day. We looked and looked and just coudnt spot something different. TFTC

22-Oct-18
With things at WENZ Headquarters than it was yesterday I was given a leave pass for a few hours. So I headed up to the Rail Trail to give my new Stumpy ST 29r it’s first off road trial. Rode up to Summit Yards with one stop to chat to rattll and watcache who I bumped into along the way. Pleasing to see some others enjoying this excellent trail, the excellent caching, and today's excellent weather. This took me a wee while to find, think it was the third place I looked. Bloody Well done! Oh and the mtb, passed with flying colours. Cheers and TFTC

21-Oct-18
Well its Mega time again and its held in Wellington so there has been lots of planning envolved with puzzles been solved and trails to do this trail along the habour betrween Wellington and Petone was planned to be done after the festivities of the Mega but there was to be a slight hick up at the start of Friday morning before we set off for Wellington and that was a truck accident with a chemical spill blocking the road restricting movement along state highway one in the road not likely to be open until 8pm that night. so after watching the NZTA website up until 3pm a plan was hatched to divert to Wellington over the Piatua track and down the Wairapa to our desination right at ground zero so there we stayed for three nights, after entering into the Waves to Waitrapa and trying to get 10 lab caches and 11 differnt cache types in a day on the saturday.
The next morning turned out to be another beauty so after breakfast we loaded the bikes onto the car and off to the start soon we were heading to the start of the trail where we un[oaded the bikes and adjusted one of them to suit mr rattl, then we were off and it was not long before we reached this one but who should we run into but boxhill and he had not found the cache yet so we joined in the hunt and it was not long before we were signing the log and replacing as found.
Thanks for the placement and the smiley.
Another coolhide a FP awarded

21-Oct-18
This one took a lot longer to find then it probably should have, due to Mr Rattll yakking away to some muggle, which was an excellent excuse to have a break from the bike.
So, after searching a number of hint items the cache was eventually spotted and the signing duties fulfilled.
Thanks for setting this up jodanz - and for giving us an excuse to stop for a bit.

26-Sep-18
Today I thought that seeing it was going to be a nice day I would head out to the Rimutaka Rail Trail and try my luck with my new e-Bike.

I had a look in one that fitted the hint but it wasn't there and then I spotted another. Bingo!

Cheers for the cache.

Great journey to this cache. Awesome way to start the spring season.

19-Aug-18
Took a little while to spot the right one, but got there in the end. tftc

27-Jul-18
It's cold here in the wind today so I got a bit frozen trying to locate this one However as with most things worthwhile it was great to make it in the end Well done Now for that one in the tunnel TFTC

27-Apr-18
Very windy up here today, lots of pipes but unfortunately no cache.

18-Mar-18
As I was riding up the trail my mind was drifting back through the years as I tried to remember just when I was last up here, can't be definite but it was about 1954. I was a pupil at Trentham School and I have memories of train trips over the Rimutaka's to the Wairarapa, stopping here to attach the Fell Engines for the downhill run to Cross Creek. This trail is a great way to honour and remember the early trailbreakers who established our network of roads and rail through some pretty difficult country with very little in the way of equipment. A favourite here for the entire trail. Thanks to all the CO's who placed and maintain the caches along the way.

25-Feb-18
My GPS zeroed out at exactly the right place but I had to stand around for a good couple of minutes trying to figure out what I was looking for. When I started looking in the right specific place more carefully I noticed something that warranted further attention and I was pleasantly surpised to discover the cache . Very well hidden but somehow a cacher is drawn to it by virtue of the subtle visual cues. +FP for most rewarding find of the day.

20-Jan-18
Really well done. I guessed the most likely place but looked a little **too** closely. I then went looking everywhere else and eventually found something not quite the same but could not get it out. So I tried the other end only to find it was not connected because the cache was in the way! FP.

13-Nov-17
Loved this one! It took a little while before the hint dawned on me!

24-Oct-17
Found at the end of a (long ) but enjoyable bike ride with EmvyUs. Great hide! TFTC Mrs Waiiti20

23-Oct-17
Enjoyed a bike ride with the EU crew and picking up a few caches along the way. TFTC

23-Sep-17
I nearly walked all the to the summit without searching for two unfound caches located there. I had planned my journey last night but then managed to forget some aspects. Luckily, I turned on my GPSr just as I was finishing my lunch break rather than on the way to cache sites on the back roads. I was astonished to see a cache 23 metres away.

My errors didn't end there as I struggled for a while to understand how BRRRRR related to this site. After a while, I realised I had the wrong cache name in my head and then knew I was in the right place. As instructed, I searched carefully, saw something a bit different but found no cache. I then intensified my hunt, spied something else that was promising and was soon in possession of a logbook. After putting things back, I then spotted a tell tale sign that I missed earlier.

Thanks for another great cache, Jodanz. Another favourite point from me.

10-Sep-17
Nicely done! B found it fairly quickly. TFTC

09-Sep-17
Nicely done hide! Though didn't slow me down TFTC Jodanz.

After a week's holiday out of NZ with lots of good food and not all that much exercise I decided to get some exercise by going for a bike ride this morning to hunt out a couple of unfound caches. It was a bit more windy today than the past few times I have been up here, however the wind was behind me on the uphill bits which helped a bit, and then on the return it wasn't really a worry. After reading the experiences of previous finders I thought this cache might be a bit difficult, however the coordinates were very accurate and I spotted something unusual within just a few minutes. A nicely hidden cache! Signed log, TFTC

30-Jul-17
Found during my second trip to search for it. I had a little more time and the day was more pleasant than my last visit.

A tricky hide indeed!

all good at GZ - log dry etc. as expected here.

Thanks for another smilie and two bike rides. This cache earns a Favourite Point for the two trips. Thanks.

Did you know that planning has started for a Mega Event in Wellington in 2018? Check out the details on the [Wellington Event NZ (WENZ) Website](https://sites.google.com/site/wenzgeo2018/home) or visit the event's page on [FaceBook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/590545297801072/)

Hoping to see you at the [Oamaru Geofest](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6M2V0_oamaru-geofest-2017) during Labour Weekend 21-22 October 2017. Let's all help this a successful event!

Thanks to the Cache Owner who has gone to the trouble of creating this cache, determining the coordinates and then averaging them to make sure they are accurate, placing the cache and registering it online for our enjoyment. Without Cache Owners doing their bit, there wouldn't be a fun hobby that we all love - so again a big THANK YOU. For our bit, all we need to do is find and log the cache that was carefully placed for our personal enjoyment. As we log it we should consider that the Cache Owner also needs to maintain it - when the log sheet fills up, they must replace it. When the container becomes full of water, they need to empty it. When the container is broken, they need to repair it. When it goes missing they need to find or replace it. Well..... the great news is we can do our bit too - make sure your log doesn't take an entire page - just a name and date. If full of water, empty and dry the cache as best as possible. Be careful when handling the cache and make sure you replace it where you found it. If it has a bag, seal it. Just remember - the Cache Owner showed respect to you by placing the cache - please respect them and fellow cachers that follow you by being careful with the cache. And if you have a spare log sheet and the cache you are at needs one, please leave it behind. Finally, if the cache does need maintenance, please let the Cache Owner know - you can log a Maintenance Log or you can drop a line to the Cache Owner. Above all - have fun and remember the Geocaching Code.

Thanks for placing the cache. We went for a ride on the incline track and picked up several caches on the way back to Upper Hutt.

#9244. {FTF} at 10:54. A good bike ride in Rimutaka Hill this morning. Met two other cyclists walking their dogs en route. The track and GZ were otherwise all quiet during the visit. Missed it on the first pass. Widened the search, trying high and low without success. Returned to the first spot and after some more careful searching, finally found the well-hidden container. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for the placement and for bringing us to this site, and …
